Re: [Bug 1391452] [NEW] lxc-net fails to start properly after system crash: lock file

2014-11-11 Thread Serge Hallyn
Quoting Chris West (1391...@bugs.launchpad.net):
 Public bug reported:

The presence of /var/lock/lxc-net causes service lxc-net start to
claim success but actually just do nothing useful.

When the system goes down hard, /var/lock/lxc-net is not removed, fair

/var/lock should be a tmpfs. This sounds like a local misconfiguration.
Can you show what /var/lock looks like?

cat /proc/self/mountinfo
df -h /var/lock
ls -ld /var/lock
df -h /run/lock

Whats the status of this? We might have a serious issue that needs
forwarding dbus to 1.8, however we haven't tracked it down to a single
commit that we could cherry pick yet.

[Bug 1082198] Re: aptitude crashes when New Categorical Browser is selected from menu

2014-11-11 Thread Axel Beckert
Why should that bug be fixed?

It is surely neither fixed upstream nor in Debian and
https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/aptitude/+changelog does not
mention any fix.

And I can easily reproduce this issue in a downloaded 14.10 live CD
booted in kvm. And since vivid has no newer aptitude version than
utopic, I can't imagine a single reason why that bug should be fixed in
vivid.

[Bug 1331077] Re: [Lenovo ThinkPad Edge E540] suspend/resume failure

2014-11-11 Thread Alex Chiang
@penalvch - if the manufacturer doesn't differentiate between the E440
and E540 at the BIOS level, how does it make any sense for a downstream
like Launchpad to maintain the fiction that they're two different
machines?

The condescension you demonstrate in #39 is unnecessary.

[Bug 1226472] Re: update-initramfs -u hangs; update-initramfs -u -v works

2014-11-11 Thread WinEunuchs2Unix
This happens when updating initramfs under 3.18.0-rc3 and -rc4. Can't
remember rc1 and rc2 in detail.

Specifically 4 warning messages causes initrd to not be created (and
then you can't boot) when verbose is turned off:

[code]
W: Possible missing firmware /lib/firmware/rtl_nic/rtl8107e-2.fw for module
r8169
W: Possible missing firmware /lib/firmware/rtl_nic/rtl8107e-1.fw for module
r8169
W: Possible missing firmware /lib/firmware/rtl_nic/rtl8168h-2.fw for module
r8169
W: Possible missing firmware /lib/firmware/rtl_nic/rtl8168h-1.fw for module
r8169
[/ccode]

appending the -v or -vv parameter to update-initramfs command line
allows the initrd.img to be created. Testing it is another issue of
course.

Changes from plain-vanilla include use of dkms for EnhanceIO modules
(used for HDD caching to 32gb mSATA SSD) which are coded into /usr/share
/initramfs-tools/scripts/local-top in a script file.

update-initramfs runs normally under 3.17.1 and 3.16.6 kernels without
the -v parameter.

HTH

[Bug 1391476] Re: [MacBookPro11,1] Laptop wakes up while lid closed

2014-11-11 Thread Christopher M. Penalver
Erlenmayr, thank you for reporting this and helping make Ubuntu better.
Could you please return your computer to the defaults (ex. no PPAs,
etc.) and then test the latest upstream kernel available from the very
top line at the top of the page (the release names are irrelevant for
testing in your release) following
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds ? It will allow additional
upstream developers to examine the issue.

If the test did not allow you to test to the issue (ex. you couldn't boot into
the OS) please make a comment in your report about this, and continue to test
the next most recent kernel version until you can test to the issue. Once
you've tested the upstream kernel, please comment on which kernel version
specifically you tested. If this bug is fixed in the mainline kernel, please
add the following tags:
kernel-fixed-upstream
kernel-fixed-upstream-VERSION-NUMBER

where VERSION-NUMBER is the version number of the kernel you tested exactly
shown as:
kernel-fixed-upstream-3.18-rc4

This can be done by clicking on the yellow circle with a black pencil
icon next to the word Tags located at the bottom of the bug description.

If the mainline kernel does not fix this bug, please add the following tags:
kernel-bug-exists-upstream
kernel-bug-exists-upstream-VERSION-NUMBER

Once testing of the upstream kernel is complete, please mark this bug's
Status as Confirmed. Please let us know your results. Thank you for your
understanding.

an update to your BIOS is available (0067). If you update to this following
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/BIOSUpdate does it change anything? If it
doesn't, could you please both specify what happened, and provide the output of
the following terminal command:
sudo dmidecode -s bios-version sudo dmidecode -s bios-release-date

For more on BIOS updates and linux, please see
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/ReportingBugs#Bug_reporting_etiquette
.

Please note your current BIOS is already in the Bug Description, so
posting this on the old BIOS would not be helpful. As well, you don't
have to create a new bug report.

Once the BIOS is updated, then please mark this report Status Confirmed.

Thank you for your understanding.

[Bug 1331077] Re: [Lenovo ThinkPad Edge E540] suspend/resume failure

2014-11-11 Thread Christopher M. Penalver
Alex Chiang, this is the wrong venue for such a discussion, but it's
about the parts under the hood, which frequently differ in the same
model line, and between similar models (which is documented verbatim in
#37). Sharing a BIOS is irrelevant.

2014-11-11 Thread Seth Forshee
I checked, and the patch is already queued for both trusty and utopic in
the next SRU cycle. This means that it won't be in the next kernel
update, but the one after that. The next update is already undergoing
regression testing so it is too late to get it in for the next kernel
update.

[Bug 1382774] Re: Postgresql installation for MAAS fails on locales missing language packs

We are experiencing this issue with the cloud installer. Specifically
when someone is ssh'ed into a remote machine to perform the
installation.

For reference: https://github.com/Ubuntu-Solutions-Engineering
/openstack-installer/issues/236

Our workaround is to make sure language-pack-en is installed.

[Bug 1382774] Re: Postgresql installation for MAAS fails on locales missing language packs

MAAS does not call pg_createcluster directly. We use dbconfing-common
for db creation.

I think this would mean that there might be a bug in dbconfig-common?

Can I assume it was also set as the default boot choice? i.e.
BootOrder listed its number first? It would be worth checking if
deleting the bootx64.efi got it to obey the boot catalog.

I'd rather put the blame on the manufacturers or who ever writes
the firmware, but that wouldn't help solving the problem I guess.
 :)

True; it is ultimately on the motherboard manufacturers, but they can
only get away with this because Microsoft installed a boot loader
where they have no business doing so.

[Bug 1368737] Re: Pacemaker can seg fault on crm node online/standby

2014-11-11 Thread Rafael David Tinoco
The way this package's versioning was made makes the tool
dh_makeshlibs (debian helper) not to append proper suffix to
dependencies (using (= 1.1.10+git20130802) instead of (=
1.1.10+git20130802-1ubuntu2.1) for example).

I changed debian/rules so the proper version is considered for
dependencies:

dh_makeshlibs -a -V
dh_makeshlibs -plibcrmcommon3 -V libcrmcommon3 (= $(RELEASE))
dh_makeshlibs -plibpengine4 -V libpengine4 (= $(RELEASE))
dh_makeshlibs -plibpe-status4 -V libpe-status4 (= $(RELEASE))
dh_makeshlibs -plibcrmservice1 -V libcrmservice1 (= $(RELEASE))
dh_makeshlibs -plibtransitioner2 -V libtransitioner2 (= $(RELEASE))
dh_makeshlibs -plibcib3 -V libcib3 (= $(RELEASE))
dh_makeshlibs -plibpe-rules2 -V libpe-rules2 (= $(RELEASE))
dh_makeshlibs -plibcrmcluster4 -V libcrmcluster4 (= $(RELEASE))
dh_makeshlibs -plibstonithd2 -V libstonithd2 (= $(RELEASE))
dh_makeshlibs -pliblrmd1 -V liblrmd1 (= $(RELEASE))

And I recommend further releases not to use this versioning scheme, to
guarantee dh_makeshlibs to work properly.

Thank you

Rafael Tinoco

[Bug 1385709] Re: network-manager service doesn't start at boot time

2014-11-11 Thread Jens Jäschke
I am/was also affected by this bug and can confirm that it is caused by
leftover files from a former sendmail installation.
Because of this, I'll add the sendmail package to the bug.

Reinstalling sendmail removed the bug.
Doing an apt-get purge on all sendmail-related packages also removed the bug
(and the offending files).

Maybe this behaviour is also on fresh installed machines, but it seems

As of today, the bug is still present in ubuntu 14.04. When will the fix
be available, now that it works with gtk+3.14 ? Will it be adapted to
the gtk version that is used by 14.04 ?

[Bug 1391605] Re: Kernel crash

2014-11-11 Thread Christopher M. Penalver
Alan, thank you for reporting this and helping make Ubuntu better. Could
you please test the latest upstream kernel available from the very top
line at the top of the page (the release names are irrelevant for
testing in your release) following
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds ?

[Bug 1250605] Re: 10ec:5286 [Clevo W310CZ] Realtek Card Reader not working.

2014-11-11 Thread Christopher M. Penalver
exzemat, the next step is to fully reverse commit bisect from kernel
3.13-rc3 to 3.16-rc7 in order to identify the last bad commit, followed
immediately by the first good one. Once this commit has been identified,
then it may be reviewed as a candidate for backporting into your
release. Could you please do this following
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Kernel/KernelBisection#How_do_I_reverse_bisect_the_upstream_kernel.3F
? Please note, finding adjacent kernel versions is not fully commit
bisecting.

Thank you for your understanding.

[Bug 1391620] [NEW] Regression in wireshark DOCSIS packet dissectors

2014-11-11 Thread max ulidtko
Public bug reported:

I have a bunch of .pcapng captures of a specific type of L2TP traffic.
Mostly, it is DEPI control plane; see the Downstream External PHY
Interface specification by CableLabs [CM-SP-DEPI].

The protocol is an extension of L2TP [RFC3931] and so uses a bunch of
VendorID-scoped AVP extensions. Their parsing has been broken in
Wireshark 1.10.6 in Ubuntu.

I don't remember which version had this working correctly, but it did.
Upon viewing my captures I was able to see dissections of AVPs with
vendorID=0x118b and registered type codes. Now I am not. Furthermore,
parsing of plain IETF AVPs which follow vendor-specific ones is garbled
by incorrect parsing of the latter.

To make it clear,

EXPECTED BEHAVIOR: CableLabs AVPs defined in [CM-SP-DEPI] as L2TP vendor
extensions are loaded (from capture files), parsed, dissected and
displayed correctly as before;

ACTUAL BEHAVIOR: Parsing errors in multiple packets, [Malformed Packet]
tags on packets which are actually well-formed, parsing exceptions and
incorrect interpretation of packet data.

I'm going to attach sample data to test and verify this. This is just 3
frames of a tunnel establishment, SCCRQ-SCCRP-SCCCN. Let me also give a
verbal explanation of what is wrong in this specific case.

In the dissection of frame 2 we're going to see this.

  [Malformed Packet: L2TP]
[Expert Info (Error/Malformed): Malformed Packet (Exception occurred)]
  [Message: Malformed Packet (Exception occurred)]
  [Severity level: Error]
  [Group: Malformed]

You can tell that this doesn't correspond to truth (i.e. the dissector just
simply crashed there) from several facts:
  1) the 10.80.12.10 peer was satisfied with the frame and has replied to it
(doing so in compliance with the spec);
  2) the bytes are perfectly fine when parsed by hand. A CableLabs AVP starts
at offset 0x72: 80 08 11 8b 00 c8 00 01. Its length is 8, and its length field
is 8, too. 00c8₁₆ = 200₁₀, CableLabs AVP 200 is defined in section 7.5.4.1 of
[CM-SP-DEPI], encodes DEPI Redundancy Capabilities and is specified to have
length 8. This AVP is then immediately followed by another L2TP AVP 2 (vendorID
= 0, attribute type = 2) of length 8, which is the last AVP and the end of the
frame.
  3) Wireshark skips the dissection of the last AVP in that frame and displays
an error instead.

There are also horrible errors in parsing of ICRP messages in my
captures which didn't appear before. They appear to be caused by
incorrect seeking over vendor AVPs. Unfortunately, the captures are
confidential and it's not easy to cleanup them for publishing. However,
I suppose that fixing the dissector crash above will fix them, too.

An example of correct (albeit incomplete) parsing of a vendor AVP is the
last AVP of frame 1, starting at offset 0x00c8, length 10, vendorID 9
(Cisco), type 115. The absence of interpretation of some vendor AVP
contents is *NOT* what I'm reporting here. This AVP is good.

[Bug 1358835] Comment bridged from LTC Bugzilla

2014-11-11 Thread bugproxy
--- Comment From markp...@us.ibm.com 2014-11-11 19:13 EDT---
In the note below you state Using last trusty ISO, I installed numactl
package. Our support requires us to be at 14.04.1, I went out to the Ubuntu
numactl page: https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/trusty/+package/numactl
It looks like the latest trusty numactl package is numactl 2.0.9~rc5-1ubuntu2
in ppc64el which we have on our system.
Can you elaborate on where the fix is available, if it is not in 14.04.1 can a
patch be provided?
Thanks. Mark

[Bug 1391622] [NEW] Keyboard shortcuts unresponsive for several seconds

2014-11-11 Thread Hadrien
Public bug reported:

Sometimes global keyboard shortcuts like volume keys on multimedia
keyboard or Ctrl+Alt+T to open a new terminal, do not respond
immediately. They are buffered and respond after 15 seconds.

Started after I upgraded to 14.10
Occurs with Unity and Gnome Compiz.
Does not occur with normal Gnome and Xfce.

I can reproduce it with Kaffeine: just after I switch channel, all
shortcuts are unresponsive for 15 seconds.

I can sometimes reproduce it with Firefox: I play a HTML 5 video and
open a new tab or switch tab. Again all shortcuts are unresponsive for
15 seconds.

[Bug 1382865] Re: Dell Latitude E6330 Touchpad stops working

2014-11-11 Thread Carsten Gräser
Stopping and restarting the service 'glidepoint' also reactives the
touchpad temporarily. So I use

sudo service glidepoint stop; sudo service glidepoint start

as a work around. As the touchpad is disfunctional again after a few
minutes, this is really annoying.

Perhaps this means that this daemon is the reason for the problem.

[Bug 1293384] Re: Compiz CPU usage dramatically increased in Ubuntu 14.04

2014-11-11 Thread V
Same here, on a desktop with 14.04 64 bit with default DE (Unity), using
a gtx 260 with the recommended proprietary and tested driver, with all
updates, using 2 external monitors.

I've tried turning off features/special effects in compiz to see if
there was any change but the problem still persisted. It helped a bit
but compiz was still eating abnormal amounts of cpu.

I've found 3 solutions thus far that solved problem but I'm not sure if
it'll work for anyone else:

1. Switching to the open source driver (in my case, the nouveau driver because
I'm using an nvidia card)
2. Switching the DE to something that isn't unity
3. Disabling my 2nd monitor

Obviously, the first option was ideal as everything just worked and I
didn't have to sacrifice a monitor or switch DE's.

[Bug 1391545] Re: [Asus X553MA] Screen brightness control doesn't work

2014-11-11 Thread Christopher M. Penalver
Janne Heikkinen, the next step is to fully reverse commit bisect from
kernel 3.13 to 3.17.2 in order to identify the last bad commit, followed
immediately by the first good one. Once this commit has been identified,
then it may be reviewed as a candidate for backporting into your
release. Could you please do this following
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Kernel/KernelBisection#How_do_I_reverse_bisect_the_upstream_kernel.3F
? Please note, finding adjacent kernel versions is not fully commit
bisecting.

Thank you for your understanding.

[Bug 1386721] Re: Graphics Slow After Upgrade 14.04 - 14.10

2014-11-11 Thread Matthew Tucker-Simmons
I'm just running standard Ubuntu with Unity, upgraded from 14.04 to
14.10. Video playback is choppy from youtube, netflix, etc. I am
experiencing some of the same problems as #17, switching between
workspaces is slow on occasion. The worst problem is that the Dash is
quite slow, it takes about 3 seconds to pop up after I press Super, when
it used to be more or less instantaneous. And typing in the Dash search
box takes about 1 second per letter.

My hardware is a desktop with Intel integrated graphics. It's not new
(an i3 chip from several years ago) but I never had a problem with
14.04.

[Bug 1391628] [NEW] X does not start (that is it crashes) after upgrading

2014-11-11 Thread Zoltan Hamar
Public bug reported:

X does not start (= crashes with segmentation fault) after upgrading
package xserver-xorg-video-intel from 2.99.910-0ubuntu1 to
2.99.910-0ubuntu1.2. I have Intel i810e chipset and 14.04 Ubuntu. After
downgrading to the former 2.99.910-0ubuntu1 package, everything works
again.

Attached I send the X.org.log file.

Yours sincerely,
Zoltán Hamar
