While that's good for your system :-) I'm afraid I still understand what went wrong initially in the first place. Calling the postinsts manually should be very close to what actually happens during apt-get. It seems reasonably clear that it was invoke-rc.d complaining about symlinks, so it seems at that time there was something wrong about them which a subsequent invocation of the postinst fixed. So we don't have any evidence about what went wrong any more :-/ If you manage to get this situation again (on a different system perhaps), could you please immediately capture ls -l /etc/rcS.d/*udev*? [Bug 1407911] Re: Infinite loop when converting a Asana Math glyph to image
I looped over Asana-Math font, and glyph U+1d763 is the only one cause the infinite loop, maybe the font itself is buggy, but it will still be nice to avoid infinite loop in imagemagick's side. $ sha1sum Asana-Math.ttf c2214f437d07b9b078c1e0027c5d4069dcf2255a Asana-Math.ttf $ ls -l Asana-Math.ttf -rw-r- 1 fracting fracting 499040 1月 6 13:11 Asana-Math.ttf Here are three backtraces: Loaded symbols for /usr/lib/i386-linux-gnu/ImageMagick-6.7.7/modules-Q16/coders/label.so 0xb76e2c7c in __kernel_vsyscall () (gdb) bt #0 0xb76e2c7c in __kernel_vsyscall () #1 0xb72677a2 in do_pwrite64 (offset=1879049088, count=268435584, buf=0xa65f5008, fd=3) at ../sysdeps/unix/sysv/linux/pwrite64.c:41 #2 __libc_pwrite64 (fd=3, buf=0xa65f5008, count=268435584, offset=1879049088) at ../sysdeps/unix/sysv/linux/pwrite64.c:57 #3 0xb73f6591 in WritePixelCacheRegion (cache_info=optimized out, buffer=optimized out, length=optimized out, offset=optimized out) at magick/cache.c:697 #4 WritePixelCachePixels (exception=optimized out, nexus_info=optimized out, cache_info=optimized out) at magick/cache.c:5651 #5 SyncAuthenticPixelCacheNexus (image=0x0, nexus_info=0x8991958, exception=0x8984c80) at magick/cache.c:5275 #6 0xb73f805f in SyncCacheViewAuthenticPixels (cache_view=0x8987308, exception=0x8984c80) at magick/cache-view.c:1005 #7 0xb74dd97b in SetImageBackgroundColor (image=0x8981ab8) at magick/image.c:3003 #8 0xb76dcbd9 in ReadLABELImage (image_info=0x89786f0, exception=0x895add8) at coders/label.c:195 #9 0xb74432b1 in ReadImage (image_info=0x895f6d0, exception=0x895add8) at magick/constitute.c:590 #10 0xb744467d in ReadImages (image_info=0x895f6d0, exception=0x895add8) at magick/constitute.c:901 ---Type return to continue, or q return to quit--- #11 0xb72abfe5 in ConvertImageCommand (image_info=0xa, argc=11, argv=0x895a798, metadata=0x0, exception=0x895add8) at wand/convert.c:601 #12 0xb73157ec in MagickCommandGenesis (image_info=0x895b058, command=0x8048600 ConvertImageCommand@plt, argc=11, argv=0xbf88f0a4, metadata=0x0, exception=0x895add8) at wand/mogrify.c:161 #13 0x08048678 in ConvertMain (argv=0xbf88f0a4, argc=optimized out) at utilities/convert.c:81 #14 main (argc=11, argv=0xbf88f0a4) at utilities/convert.c:92 (gdb) (gdb) c Continuing. ^C Program received signal SIGINT, Interrupt. 0xb76e2c7c in __kernel_vsyscall () (gdb) bt #0 0xb76e2c7c in __kernel_vsyscall () #1 0xb72677a2 in do_pwrite64 (offset=2415920256, count=268435584, buf=0xa65f5008, fd=3) at ../sysdeps/unix/sysv/linux/pwrite64.c:41 #2 __libc_pwrite64 (fd=3, buf=0xa65f5008, count=268435584, offset=2415920256) at ../sysdeps/unix/sysv/linux/pwrite64.c:57 #3 0xb73f6591 in WritePixelCacheRegion (cache_info=optimized out, buffer=optimized out, length=optimized out, offset=optimized out) at magick/cache.c:697 #4 WritePixelCachePixels (exception=optimized out, nexus_info=optimized out, cache_info=optimized out) at magick/cache.c:5651 #5 SyncAuthenticPixelCacheNexus (image=0x0, nexus_info=0x8991958, exception=0x8984c80) at magick/cache.c:5275 #6 0xb73f805f in SyncCacheViewAuthenticPixels (cache_view=0x8987308, exception=0x8984c80) at magick/cache-view.c:1005 #7 0xb74dd97b in SetImageBackgroundColor (image=0x8981ab8) at magick/image.c:3003 #8 0xb76dcbd9 in ReadLABELImage (image_info=0x89786f0, exception=0x895add8) at coders/label.c:195 #9 0xb74432b1 in ReadImage (image_info=0x895f6d0, exception=0x895add8) at magick/constitute.c:590 #10 0xb744467d in ReadImages (image_info=0x895f6d0, exception=0x895add8) at magick/constitute.c:901 ---Type return to continue, or q return to quit--- #11 0xb72abfe5 in ConvertImageCommand (image_info=0xa, argc=11, argv=0x895a798, metadata=0x0, exception=0x895add8) at wand/convert.c:601 #12 0xb73157ec in MagickCommandGenesis (image_info=0x895b058, command=0x8048600 ConvertImageCommand@plt, argc=11, argv=0xbf88f0a4, metadata=0x0, exception=0x895add8) at wand/mogrify.c:161 #13 0x08048678 in ConvertMain (argv=0xbf88f0a4, argc=optimized out) at utilities/convert.c:81 #14 main (argc=11, argv=0xbf88f0a4) at utilities/convert.c:92 (gdb) c Continuing. ^C Program received signal SIGINT, Interrupt. 0xb76e2c7c in __kernel_vsyscall () (gdb) bt #0 0xb76e2c7c in __kernel_vsyscall () #1 0xb72677a2 in do_pwrite64 (offset=3221227008, count=268435584, buf=0xa65f5008, fd=3) at ../sysdeps/unix/sysv/linux/pwrite64.c:41 #2 __libc_pwrite64 (fd=3, buf=0xa65f5008, count=268435584, offset=3221227008) at ../sysdeps/unix/sysv/linux/pwrite64.c:57 #3 0xb73f6591 in WritePixelCacheRegion (cache_info=optimized out, buffer=optimized out, length=optimized out, offset=optimized out) at magick/cache.c:697 #4 WritePixelCachePixels (exception=optimized out, nexus_info=optimized out, cache_info=optimized out) at magick/cache.c:5651 #5 SyncAuthenticPixelCacheNexus (image=0x0,

[Bug 1407914] [NEW] [phone] No way to force a retry of GSM data connection
Public bug reported: When in spotty coverage areas, the GSM data connection sometimes fails, and due to bug #1235120 there's no feedback on why there's no network available. There's also no way to force a retry of the data connection other than toggling flight mode or the data connection type in cellular settings. I would feel more in control if the GSM connections would be listed in the network menu with the ability to switch to one of them (so being able to switch data SIMs in a dual-SIM phone without going to settings). Currently they're some magic connections that supposedly work by themselves, but this assumption breaks when they stop working. [Bug 1407913] [NEW] In 3840x2160 high resolution mode, display would blink with Chrome / Chromium browser opened, or with certain page in Firefox
Public bug reported: CID: 201410-15952 Dell Inspiron 7548 I'm not sure which package to blame with, I guess maybe it has something to do with X, thing is: when the system is running in 3840*2160 resolution, the display will blink with these browsers under certain conditions. Steps: 1. Install 14.04.1 + update + Chromium + Chrome 2. Make sure it's running with the highest resolution and open Chrome (39.0.2171.95-1) 3. Make sure it's running with the highest resolution and open Chromium (39.0.2171.65-0ubuntu0.14.04.1.1064) 4. Make sure it's running with the highest resolution and open Firefox (34.0+build2-0ubuntu0.14.04.1) 5. Switch to the second-highest resolution mode and repeat 2-4 Expected result: * Every browser should not intefere the display on this system. Actual result: * On step 2, display blinks right after Chrome opened, back to normal when you close the browser * On step 3, display blinks right after Chromium opened, back to normal when you close the browser * On step 4, it won't blink, but if you visit https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1118140 with 100% zoom scale in Firefox, it will blink. If you zoom in or out with ctrl +/- or close it, the display will back to normal. * On step 5, non of them will make the display blink Note that when it's blinking, you can switch to console with Ctrl + Alt + F1 without any problem. And this happen to Firefox on some other pages as well. Verified with: 3.16.0-28 + open source video driver the latest mainline kernel 3.19.0-rc3 + open source video driver 3.13.0-43 + open source video driver 3.13.0-43 + the latest AMD video driver (14.501.1003) in both power-saving and performance mode they all have the same behaviour. (In reply to Martin Gräßlin from comment #11) I'd say two groups of behavior: * might change during life time of window (e.g. maximize) * might not change during life time of window (e.g. quick help) And I'm not sure whether the same rules would apply. For a disabled maximized I'd expect the button to be there, but not for a disabled quick help. Oh, I just realized that I actually expected _too little_ about what's technically possible. I had originally thought that it would make sense to disable (plus tooltip) those buttons that may become enabled or disabled based on the situation and only hide those that are either there in an application or not, but I thought How is the KWin/the windeco supposed to know that? so I abandoned the idea. If, however, the windeco _can_ know whether the button is temporarily or permanently unavailable, then of course temporarily unavailable buttons should be disabled and permanently unavailable ones should be hidden. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1175299 Title: kwin Plastik decoration displays the help-button wrong To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/kdebase-workspace/+bug/1175299/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

But *usually* a feature will be available or not for a window as long as it exists - and it's not predictable whether the eg. the client will later on release the size constraints. @Martin I'm actually not sure about esp. the context help here - a client could pot. provide it depending on which kcm is currently loaded or which tab is the current in a QTabWidget - I didn't find a comment on whether WM_PROTOCOLS must not be updated after mapping.

[Bug 1175299]
Thank you for calling me in, Thomas! If a button in a UI becomes temporarily unavailable because of some situation-specific circumstances, it should be disabled and get a tooltip explaining these circumstances. The buttons in window decorations, however, are usually not temporarily unavailable. either a certain window has a button or it doesn't. Therefore, users won't miss buttons which are not there, and they can safely be hidden. As for the placeholder gap: Whether that's useful or not actually depends on the user's button configuration. Users who - for whatever reason - place exotic buttons like the ?-button between more common ones (like close or minimize) may find it irritating that the more common buttons jump around between windows which have the exotic buttons and those who don't. For the rest of us, the placeholder doesn't provide much benefit. However, I don't think many users place exotic buttons between common ones, as it makes more sense to put the common buttons towards the edge of the deco and the more exotic ones more towards the center anyway. Therefore I think we'll annoy less users if we just hide buttons which are unavailable on a certain window completely. Where should we document this? -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1175299 Title: kwin Plastik decoration displays the help-button wrong To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/kdebase-workspace/+bug/1175299/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 1175299]
Linking in HIG: @Thomas P (or anyone you'd like to consult ;-) The core question is what to do with disabled titlebar buttons (eg. if a window cannot be maximized) - show the disabled button - hide the disabled button - replace the disabled button with a gap One may simply argue that Plastik (as windows) traditionally just hid the button, but imo. it's rather important to sport a common behavior among at least all stock decos, so this should follow a general pattern (breeze, oxygen, plastik) -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1175299 Title: kwin Plastik decoration displays the help-button wrong To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/kdebase-workspace/+bug/1175299/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

(In reply to Thomas Lübking from comment #10) Please notice that this is not limited to exotic buttons, close and minimize may be and maximize will regularily be disabled (for fixed maximum/size windows, some dialogs etc.) I'd say two groups of behavior: * might change during life time of window (e.g. maximize) * might not change during life time of window (e.g. quick help) And I'm not sure whether the same rules would apply. For a disabled maximized I'd expect the button to be there, but not for a disabled quick help. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Kubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to kde-workspace in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1175299 Title: kwin Plastik decoration displays the help-button wrong To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/kdebase-workspace/+bug/1175299/+subscriptions -- kubuntu-bugs mailing list kubuntu-b...@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/kubuntu-bugs
[Bug 1175299]
What about a setting for the behaviour? For fixed behaviour: i think the close button should never be hidden, only disabled, as its almost there, in the sense that the user expects it to be there and needs an explanation if its not there. The help button should mimic the windows behaviour of just being there if needed, as a disabled button suggest that the help will be enabled in the lifetime of the window after some action. btw: how often is a close button really disabled (and not just ignored by the program)? -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1175299 Title: kwin Plastik decoration displays the help-button wrong To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/kdebase-workspace/+bug/1175299/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 996916] Re: postgresql packages in the removal blacklist making it hard to upgrade
I had this trying to upgrade from 14.04 to 14.10, although I didn't get any indication of the package causing the problem - see #1406740. I tried commenting out the postgresql line from removal_blacklist.cfg, like cfi mentioned, but similarly it didn't fix the problem for me. Once I removed all the postgresql packages (server and client, plus the postgis stuff and as a knock-on some mapnik packages) the upgrade ran through successfully. Sadly I didn't make a note of the packages I removed, but can probably work out a rough list of what they were if that's useful. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/996916 Title: postgresql packages in the removal blacklist making it hard to upgrade To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/update-manager/+bug/996916/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1389028] Re: u1 account crashes and gets removed when installing app
Sorry but I can not agree with the analyses. As I said (#16), the issue remains after the duplicate token was resolved. Also Alberto's take just does not fly (the assumption that the U1 account never was properly created), because how else could I install every other app from the store? I do not like to waste anyone’s time and I can see that when no one else is reporting this, It seems kind of flaky. Yet I can still reproduce this issue consistently to this day: My U1 account works fine and I can do anything one should expect it to do. Except that installing a couple of very specific apps cause U1 to crash(or at least for all intents and purposes, be deleted from the phone). The consistency just does not add up to some fluke occurrence. I am replying especially again because -if this is indeed an issue with merrit- the implications may just be big. (U1 accounts in relation to the clickstore in certain cases can not guarantee cardinality) I will continue to provide whatever is needed if some one asks, but will not pursue it any more myself. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1389028 Title: u1 account crashes and gets removed when installing app To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/ubuntu-system-settings-online-accounts/+bug/1389028/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
