[Bug 1397221] Re: package libudev0 175-0ubuntu9.8 failed to install/upgrade: libudev0:amd64 175-0ubuntu9.7 cannot be configured because libudev0

2015-01-06 Thread Martin Pitt
This isn't a bug in libudev, but a problem of the upgrading. Apparently
you ended up with two different versions of libudev0 for i386 and amd64.
But apt-get -f install or dist-upgrade ought to be able to fix it?

[Bug 1385469] Re: pywbem library on Ubuntu doesn't support CA certificate verification

[Bug 1385842] Re: icedtea-8-plugin not available for openjdk-8

2015-01-06 Thread Maarten Fonville
Today icedtea-web was updated, making the intermediate icedtea-8-plugin and
icedtea-netx icedtea-netx-common packages from the temporary repository
(http://87.98.165.193/debian/repo/) out of date.
It would be really nice if at least vivid development could update the control
file for this package so that icedtea-8-plugin will be available. JDK8 is
already stable for more than a year, and some people already depend on this
Java version.

[Bug 1406735] Re: package udev 208-8ubuntu8.1 failed to install/upgrade: subprocess installed post-installation script returned error exit status 102

2015-01-06 Thread Martin Pitt
While that's good for your system :-) I'm afraid I still understand what
went wrong initially in the first place. Calling the postinsts manually
should be very close to what actually happens during apt-get. It seems
reasonably clear that it was invoke-rc.d complaining about symlinks, so
it seems at that time there was something wrong about them which a
subsequent invocation of the postinst fixed. So we don't have any
evidence about what went wrong any more :-/

If you manage to get this situation again (on a different system
perhaps), could you please immediately capture ls -l
/etc/rcS.d/*udev*? Thanks!

[Bug 1407902] [NEW] [phone] Indicator shows GSM data connection but Network Error displayed immediately

2015-01-06 Thread Michał Sawicz
Public bug reported:

I know this is probably not the right place for this bug, please
reassign as appropriate.

Sometimes, probably after walking about a longer time with GSM data on,
the data connection breaks and the browser displays Network Error
immediately after trying to open a web page.

It feels as if dnsmasq died and no name resolution is happening. I saw a
similar issue sometimes when using RNDIS to tether the network
connection.

** Description changed:

On phone I'd expect some kind of indication when device tries to
- establish a wifi connection.
+ establish a connection.

https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Networking#connecting: While Ubuntu for PC is
trying to establish any network connection, the title of the network
menu should be a spinner. Similarly, while Ubuntu Phone is trying to
establish a wi-fi connection, the wi-fi indicator should be an animated
wi-fi icon. In both cases, the item for that connection should have a
spinner too. If the connection is successful, the latter spinner should
be replaced by a radio mark or checkmark as appropriate.

[Bug 1404509] Re: [precise] udev does not automatically load modules

2015-01-06 Thread Martin Pitt
Note that this is not unambiguously regression free -- in precise we did
not yet have kmod, and udev still calls the modprobe binary instead of
using libkmod. So as Kay already pointed out, we'd call modprobe a lot
more with this, even on the default precise kerneL (3.2).

[Bug 1407911] [NEW] Infinite loop when converting a Asana Math glyph to image

2015-01-06 Thread fracting
Public bug reported:

printf \U1d763 | convert -font Asana-Math.ttf -background white -fill
black -pointsize 300 label:@- loop.png

The above command line causes an infinite loop for me, reproduced 100%.
It also creates a large temp file in /tmp until my system dead :(

BTW, imagemagick is a great tool, thanks for the great work!

[Bug 1407911] Re: Infinite loop when converting a Asana Math glyph to image

2015-01-06 Thread fracting
I looped over Asana-Math font, and glyph U+1d763 is the only one cause
the infinite loop, maybe the font itself is buggy, but it will still be
nice to avoid infinite loop in imagemagick's side.

$ sha1sum Asana-Math.ttf

[Bug 1407914] [NEW] [phone] No way to force a retry of GSM data connection

2015-01-06 Thread Michał Sawicz
Public bug reported:

When in spotty coverage areas, the GSM data connection sometimes fails, and due
to bug #1235120 there's no feedback on why there's no network available.
There's also no way to force a retry of the data connection other than toggling
flight mode or the data connection type in cellular settings.

I would feel more in control if the GSM connections would be listed in
the network menu with the ability to switch to one of them (so being
able to switch data SIMs in a dual-SIM phone without going to settings).
Currently they're some magic connections that supposedly work by
themselves, but this assumption breaks when they stop working.

[Bug 1407913] [NEW] In 3840x2160 high resolution mode, display would blink with Chrome / Chromium browser opened, or with certain page in Firefox

2015-01-06 Thread Po-Hsu Lin
Public bug reported:

CID: 201410-15952 Dell Inspiron 7548

I'm not sure which package to blame with, I guess maybe it has something to do
with X, thing is:
when the system is running in 3840*2160 resolution, the display will blink with
these browsers under certain conditions.

Steps:
1. Install 14.04.1 + update + Chromium + Chrome
2. Make sure it's running with the highest resolution and open Chrome
(39.0.2171.95-1)
3. Make sure it's running with the highest resolution and open Chromium
(39.0.2171.65-0ubuntu0.14.04.1.1064)
4. Make sure it's running with the highest resolution and open Firefox
(34.0+build2-0ubuntu0.14.04.1)
5. Switch to the second-highest resolution mode and repeat 2-4

Expected result:
* Every browser should not intefere the display on this system.

Actual result:
* On step 2, display blinks right after Chrome opened, back to normal when you
close the browser
* On step 3, display blinks right after Chromium opened, back to normal when
you close the browser
* On step 4, it won't blink, but if you visit
https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1118140 with 100% zoom scale in
Firefox, it will blink. If you zoom in or out with ctrl +/- or close it, the
display will back to normal.
* On step 5, non of them will make the display blink
Note that when it's blinking, you can switch to console with Ctrl + Alt + F1
without any problem. And this happen to Firefox on some other pages as well.

Verified with:
3.16.0-28 + open source video driver
the latest mainline kernel 3.19.0-rc3 + open source video driver
3.13.0-43 + open source video driver
3.13.0-43 + the latest AMD video driver (14.501.1003) in both power-saving and
performance mode
they all have the same behaviour.

Please find the attachment for screencast from step 2 to 4.

For the error message in dmesg, I think it's the external webcam, it
could be reproduced when removing the external USB webcam. Therefore I
think they are not related.

[Bug 1407918] Re: [phone] Toggling WiFi leaves both GSM and WiFi connected

2015-01-06 Thread Michał Sawicz
Hmm on second look, the icon did change to WiFi after a longer time
(like 30s at least), but IIUC the GSM connection is still kept on, which
feels like a waste of battery?

[Bug 1407918] [NEW] [phone] Toggling WiFi leaves both GSM and WiFi connected

2015-01-06 Thread Michał Sawicz
Public bug reported:

This is one more that's probably not in the right place... please
reassign as appropriate.

Steps:
* disable WiFi via switch in the Network menu
* wait for a GSM data connection
* enable WiFi again
* rinse'n'repeat

Expected:
* GSM connection is dropped whenever WiFi is available

Current:
* sometimes GSM is dropped, but sometimes it remains on, even if unused

The routes and all go through WiFi, so traffic should be fine, but the
icon still says H for me, and there is a ccmni0 interface up.

Please find attached logs from network-test-session when I switched WiFi
off and on.

[Bug 1175299]

2015-01-06 Thread Colomar
(In reply to Martin Gräßlin from comment #11)
I'd say two groups of behavior:
 * might change during life time of window (e.g. maximize)
 * might not change during life time of window (e.g. quick help)

And I'm not sure whether the same rules would apply. For a disabled
maximized I'd expect the button to be there, but not for a disabled quick
 help.

Oh, I just realized that I actually expected _too little_ about what's
technically possible.
I had originally thought that it would make sense to disable (plus tooltip)
those buttons that may become enabled or disabled based on the situation and
only hide those that are either there in an application or not, but I thought
How is the KWin/the windeco supposed to know that? so I abandoned the idea.

If, however, the windeco _can_ know whether the button is temporarily or
permanently unavailable, then of course temporarily unavailable buttons
should be disabled and permanently unavailable ones should be hidden.

*cough* might *cough*

Actually every button *might* be temporarily unavailable - it's more a matter
of likelihood.
But *usually* a feature will be available or not for a window as long as it
exists - and it's not predictable whether the eg. the client will later on
release the size constraints.

@Martin
I'm actually not sure about esp. the context help here - a client could pot.
provide it depending on which kcm is currently loaded or which tab is the
current in a QTabWidget - I didn't find a comment on whether WM_PROTOCOLS must
not be updated after mapping.

[Bug 1175299]

2015-01-06 Thread Colomar
Thank you for calling me in, Thomas!

If a button in a UI becomes temporarily unavailable because of some
situation-specific circumstances, it should be disabled and get a
tooltip explaining these circumstances.

The buttons in window decorations, however, are usually not temporarily
unavailable. either a certain window has a button or it doesn't.
Therefore, users won't miss buttons which are not there, and they can
safely be hidden.

As for the placeholder gap: Whether that's useful or not actually
depends on the user's button configuration. Users who - for whatever
reason - place exotic buttons like the ?-button between more common
ones (like close or minimize) may find it irritating that the more
common buttons jump around between windows which have the exotic
buttons and those who don't. For the rest of us, the placeholder doesn't
provide much benefit.

However, I don't think many users place exotic buttons between common ones, as
it makes more sense to put the common buttons towards the edge of the deco and
the more exotic ones more towards the center anyway.
Therefore I think we'll annoy less users if we just hide buttons which are
unavailable on a certain window completely.

Where should we document this?

[Bug 1175299]

2015-01-06 Thread Thomas-luebking
Linking in HIG:

@Thomas P (or anyone you'd like to consult ;-)

The core question is what to do with disabled titlebar buttons (eg. if
a window cannot be maximized)

- show the disabled button
- hide the disabled button
- replace the disabled button with a gap

One may simply argue that Plastik (as windows) traditionally just hid
the button, but imo. it's rather important to sport a common behavior
among at least all stock decos, so this should follow a general pattern
(breeze, oxygen, plastik)

[Bug 1175299]

2015-01-06 Thread Allo
What about a setting for the behaviour?

For fixed behaviour: i think the close button should never be hidden, only
disabled, as its almost there, in the sense that the user expects it to be
there and needs an explanation if its not there. The help button should mimic
the windows behaviour of just being there if needed, as a disabled button
suggest that the help will be enabled in the lifetime of the window after some
action.
btw: how often is a close button really disabled (and not just ignored by the
program)?

[Bug 996916] Re: postgresql packages in the removal blacklist making it hard to upgrade

2015-01-06 Thread Adrian McEwen
I had this trying to upgrade from 14.04 to 14.10, although I didn't get
any indication of the package causing the problem - see #1406740.

I tried commenting out the postgresql line from removal_blacklist.cfg,
like cfi mentioned, but similarly it didn't fix the problem for me.

Once I removed all the postgresql packages (server and client, plus the
postgis stuff and as a knock-on some mapnik packages) the upgrade ran
through successfully.

Sadly I didn't make a note of the packages I removed, but can probably
work out a rough list of what they were if that's useful.

[Bug 1404509] Re: [precise] udev does not automatically load modules with kernel = 3.11

2015-01-06 Thread Pali
Yes I have: coretemp.ko module which show temperature of intel core
processors. Or other intel modules like x86_pkg_temp_thermal,
intel_powerclamp, intel_rapl. Or intel module aesni-intel.ko which use
intel AES-NI instructions for optimizes AES support in kernel (e.g. for
luks/dm-crypt).

All these modules have cpu alias in module binary so without that patch
they are not automatically loaded.

Test case is easy: just start precise on those intel core processors and
check if above modules were automatically loaded.

[Bug 1401488] Re: [regression] Mir servers (since 0.9) randomly crash in malloc due to heap corruption

2015-01-06 Thread Daniel van Vugt
desrt just reminded me (after I reminded him :) that my apparent
explanation of the bug doesn't make sense.

We're losing a reference to the GSource and the claimed unsafe callback
should actually be safe already (as its caller is designed to hold a
ref).

Although the workaround that's landed seems to perform well, I'm
concerned as to understanding /why/ still...

[Bug 1389201] Re: Error calling EVIOCSKEYCODE on device node: Invalid argument

2015-01-06 Thread Martin Pitt
Key codes 418/419 are KEY_ZOOMIN and KEY_ZOOMOUT. We don't have any hwdb
keymaps for ASUS which set those, but it applies to the USB keyboard:

N: input/event10
S: input/by-id/usb-Microsoft_Natural®_Ergonomic_Keyboard_4000-event-kbd
E: ID_VENDOR=Microsoft
E: ID_MODEL=Natural®_Ergonomic_Keyboard_4000
E: KEYBOARD_KEY_c022d=zoomin
E: KEYBOARD_KEY_c022e=zoomout

This rule was introduced in 2011 in
http://cgit.freedesktop.org/systemd/systemd/commit/?id=310aba9 (via
https://bugs.debian.org/629647) and later converted to hwdb. I'm
hesitant to remove it now, as there might be either older keyboard
models or (more probably) older kernels which still need it. However,
can you please do this:

  - Edit /lib/udev/hwdb.d/60-keyboard.hwdb (as root, e. g. with sudo
gedit) to remove this paragraph:

# Microsoft Natural Ergonomic Keyboard 4000
keyboard:usb:v045Ep00DB*
 KEYBOARD_KEY_c022d=zoomin
 KEYBOARD_KEY_c022e=zoomout

Then reboot your computer, verify that the warning went away. Then
please install the evtest package, run sudo evtest, select your
Microsoft USB keyboard, press the Zoom in/out keys, and copypaste the
output? If they still work, then your model/kernel doesn't need the
mappings any more. Thanks!

[Bug 1407921] [NEW] There is no feedback when GPS is used, or when a GPS lock is being acquired

Public bug reported:

The only information the location indicator icon conveys currently is
whether location detection is enabled at all, when more data could be

[Bug 1389028] Re: u1 account crashes and gets removed when installing app

2015-01-06 Thread Mathijs Veen
Sorry but I can not agree with the analyses. As I said (#16), the issue remains
after the duplicate token was resolved. Also Alberto's take just does not fly
(the assumption that the U1 account never was properly created), because how
else could I install every other app from the store?
I do not like to waste anyone’s time and I can see that when no one else is
reporting this, It seems kind of flaky. Yet I can still reproduce this issue
consistently to this day: My U1 account works fine and I can do anything one
should expect it to do. Except that installing a couple of very specific apps
cause U1 to crash(or at least for all intents and purposes, be deleted from the
phone). The consistency just does not add up to some fluke occurrence.
I am replying especially again because -if this is indeed an issue with merrit-
the implications may just be big. (U1 accounts in relation to the clickstore in
certain cases can not guarantee cardinality)
I will continue to provide whatever is needed if some one asks, but will not
pursue it any more myself.
