Here's one of the errors I was getting when trying to load up steam:
libgl error: failed to load driver: swrast
After much searching this hidden thread saved the day. I deleted the
steam.conf file as in #11 and then ran ldconfig. Fixed! Thanks to all

on Ubuntu MATE 15.04 when trying to select an area to grab using mate-

Auto save directory/last save directory both work for me if I call
gnome-screenshot or gnome-screenshot --interactive from an xterm, but
neither work when I press Print Screen. 'Screenshot of a window' and
'screenshot of an area' behave identically.
