This image was built after the release, but before the removal, which

Do you mean change the launcher size by going to "Settings" ->
"Appearance" and then reducing the "Launcher icon size" slider, or
change the launcher size by some other method?
Reducing the launcher icon size doesn't produce this behaviour in 15.10.
