[Bug 1520278] Re: Default languages strategy for Ubuntu desktop CD
Yeah, this task is quite different (I didn't dive into all details though). This bug was really focusing on the default language selection. I hope the ubiquity maintainer (maybe try pinging cyphermox?) can focus on the other bug, which concerns more packages not on the iso + English ones, even if you select another language partially copied from the installer (which is why it's showing up as not fully supported). To make it clear, I unduped it your duplicate action. Maybe try to reach directly Mathieu (cyphermox) on IRC? I bet this shouldn't be a big thing to fix, just put this on his radar :) -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1520278 Title: Default languages strategy for Ubuntu desktop CD To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/1520278/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Since the Ubuntu package already had Breaks/Replaces, I restored this usage with updated version numbers. I did wonder about this and assumed Debian was more likely to be correct than me. Apparently not! > - The golang-src package in Ubuntu Breaks/Replaces ancient versions of golang-go, but this has been dropped in Debian. Unfortunately, these versions are not so ancient that they aren't newer than the version present in the trusty release pocket, so we should hang on to this until xenial is released. Er, yes they are? The versions being broke/replaced is 2:1-3~ and trusty has 2:1.2.1-2ubuntu1 (which has the breaks/replaces of 2:1-3~ already). So I think this really can be dropped (it even seems *precise* has a newer version than 1-3 :-)). Of course it's pretty harmless to keep too. > - the changelog should document those changes that have been dropped and why (e.g., patches that are upstream and no longer needed here). OK. Thanks. > - Debian has added ppc64 to their list of archs where they build golang; so we should extend our list of "go archs" to include this one for better upstreamability to Debian. Good spotting. > Please let me know whether you agree with these changes (in the attached > debdiff) or whether you think further revision is needed before upload. I guess I'd ask you to: 1) re-delete the breaks of golang-src 2) remove mention of same from changelog 3) add the bug number for the copyright changes to changelog and upload away! And then we can do the 1.5.3 merge, but m-o-m should get that right. *** This bug is a duplicate of bug 1534169 *** https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1534169 I think allowing the two sources to play concurrently is acceptable behaviour, however, in this case it becomes more an issue of how to then control each individual source from the sound indicator (As reported in bug #1534169). As the solution to bug #1534169 directly interferes with the proposed solution in this report, I am going to mark this as a duplicate so that we can track the progress of this issue in one place. ** This bug has been marked a duplicate of bug 1534169 When playing audio from two sources with bgplaylists support (eg music-app and scope) it becomes confusing -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1533995 Title: In-line playing of the track doesn't pause while playing music from webbrowser at the same time To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/unity-scopes-shell/+bug/1533995/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1371233] Re: USB 3.0 connection is unreliable + xHCI xhci_drop_endpoint called with disabled ep
Since my original post a year ago I have had a couple of occurrences of this problem even on the older kernel version that I'm using. I tried setting nox2apic as a boot parameter, and it appears to work. The only time I was getting the error on that kernel version was when I was resynching a RAID 1 array on 2 2tb USB 3 drives on the same controller. I got the error today when doing that, so I aborted the resynch and rebooted with nox2apic. It resynched all 2tb with no occurrences of the error. Now I'm going to try upgrading the kernel to current and see if I can cause the error again with nox2apic set. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1371233 Title: USB 3.0 connection is unreliable + xHCI xhci_drop_endpoint called with disabled ep To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1371233/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1534216] Re: serial port driver in some virtual systems can hang
I don't believe we've ever seen this in VMs. The main place excessive kernel output has been problematic is on scalingstack compute nodes, which are mostly HP ProLiant DL360p Gen8s (AMD64) and HP ProLiant m400s (aka. mcdivitt, ARMv8). Both have a virtual serial port exposed by the BMC or chassis, and kernel messages go to that. But the machines run VMs -- they're not themselves virtualised. [Bug 1524165] Re: merge with debian
Hi Michael, The debdiff for 1.5.2-1ubuntu1 largely looks correct to me. I have a few small corrections: - the changes to debian/copyright should be retained, these fix a real bug and should be upstreamed to Debian. - the changes to debian/source/lintian-overrides should be retained, for the same reason. - the debian/control contents have diverged from Debian quite a bit in matters of field ordering, whitespace, etc. we can lose much of this delta with no change in semantics, so I think it's best to do this now when merging. - Debian has added versioned Conflicts against golang-golang-x-tools, and golang-go.tools. This is incorrect, these should be versioned Breaks/Replaces to ensure smooth upgrades with apt. Since the Ubuntu package already had Breaks/Replaces, I restored this usage with updated version numbers. - The golang-src package in Ubuntu Breaks/Replaces ancient versions of golang-go, but this has been dropped in Debian. Unfortunately, these versions are not so ancient that they aren't newer than the version present in the trusty release pocket, so we should hang on to this until xenial is released. - the changelog should document those changes that have been dropped and why (e.g., patches that are upstream and no longer needed here). - Debian has added ppc64 to their list of archs where they build golang; so we should extend our list of "go archs" to include this one for better upstreamability to Debian. Please let me know whether you agree with these changes (in the attached debdiff) or whether you think further revision is needed before upload. ** Patch added: "golang-1524164-mergier-slangasek.diff" https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/golang/+bug/1524165/+attachment/4550305/+files/golang-1524164-mergier-slangasek.diff -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1524165 Title: merge with debian To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/golang/+bug/1524165/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1533026] Re: HP X360 laptop freeze on pm-suspend
Attached is output from lsmod. I've added a bash script in /lib/systemd /system-sleep to remove (modprobe -r) select modules prior to suspend and then reload them if the laptop ever gets to running the post suspend. Highlighted modules are ones I've removed to date, with no success - i.e. laptop still freezes. [Bug 1534438] [NEW] lxpanel, if vertical, forgets it's width at logout
Public bug reported: lubuntu 16.04, lxpanel 0.8.1 (full upgrade as 2016-01-14). Lenovo x220, 1368x768 screen size How to repeat: * log into lxde session * click on the panel on the bottom of screen and choose "panel settings" * Choose Position -> Edge -> Right. The panel moves to the right side but is very wide (150 pixels) * Click Size -> Width and enter a smaller value (like 42) * Choose smaller icon size (like 32) * Click on the height for the number to take effect * log out/log on. The panel is still on right edge, but at the original width (150 pixels). I expect it to have the width I specified before logout (42 in this example). Public bug reported: Hello, i'm currently having the same issue on a Thinkpad T450, with Ubuntu 15.10 and 15.04 I connect my headphones to the headphone jack, when i enter the headphone, i get the same cracking, popping sound as startup and shutdown/reboot. So, when i boot, i get a cracking, popping sound that overpowers the headphones, it still occurs when i shutdown the laptop or reboot. The output of alsa-info.sh gives me a different codec instead of the proposed fix information 0x10ec0292 0x17aa5036 0 i have 0x10ec0292 0x17aa5034 0 I tried the fix with both 0x17aa5036 and 0x17aa5034, on Ubuntu 15.10 and 15.04 without luck, the symptom stays, the cracking sound appears at startup and shutdown. I tried fedora 23 and i still have the issue. Probably caused by the same issue, i get a static noise in the both headphones if i mute it goes away Thanks for your help. Disconsider my previous analysis please. After disassembling carefully the java process dump I could see that we had the instruction pointer at: if (iter.task) put_task_struct(iter.task); Some instructions before a loop that could be a potential candidate for deadlocks, which I was referring to before. 0x811df242 <+34>:je 0x811df24f 0x811df244 <+36>:lock decl 0x10(%rdx) 0x811df248 <+40>:sete %al 0x811df24b <+43>:test %al,%al The combination of those 3 instructions (decl, sete & test) shows me that this is actually the implementation of atomic_dec_and_test function. It servers to atomically (CPU coordination) decrement a variable from task_struct for the given task. Deadlock is probably NOT there. I went for khungtask stack to check which task it was complaining about being locked and I could not find it (probably taskid was in registers and not on the stack) BUT I could find an output message telling me which task was locked: [15956.371298] INFO: task jsvc:57263 blocked for more than 120 seconds. And this comes exactly from khungtaskd code. It means that PID 57263 was NOT scheduled for more than 120 seconds. Checking its stack: PID: 57263 COMMAND: "jsvc" TASK: 883e0c4e2e00 [THREAD_INFO: 883e849c2000] CPU: 1 STATE: TASK_UNINTERRUPTIBLE|TASK_TRACED|EXIT_DEAD I can see that it is in UNINTERRUPTIBLE state (it can't received signals, for ex). Checking its stack: crash> bt PID: 57263 TASK: 883e0c4e2e00 CPU: 1 COMMAND: "jsvc" #0 [883e849c3c88] __schedule at 8166256a #1 [883e849c3d10] schedule at 81662c0f #2 [883e849c3d20] schedule_timeout at 8166324d #3 [883e849c3dd0] wait_for_common at 81662a4f #4 [883e849c3e70] wait_for_completion at 81662bcd #5 [883e849c3e80] flush_work at 8108757e #6 [883e849c3ed0] schedule_on_each_cpu at 81087813 #7 [883e849c3f10] lru_add_drain_all at 81127365 #8 [883e849c3f20] sys_fadvise64_64 at 8111e189 #9 [883e849c3f70] sys_fadvise64 at 8111e27e #10 [883e849c3f80] system_call_fastpath at 8166d2c2 ## sys_fadvise64_64 The task entered kernel mode after the syscall: fadvise. It basically tells the kernel how the file is going to be accessed so it can prepare itself regarding to different caching techniques (expect page references in random order, expect page references in sequential order, expect delay in accessing file contents, etc). It turns out that the JSVC process basically told kernel that it would NOT use the opened file (flag POSIX_FADV_DONTNEED) until further moment, at a certain offset. With that, kernel calculated page start/end index (offset, offset+len) for the memory range of given file and tried to invalidate all unlocked pages (page cache) for that area. Dirty, locked, write-back or mapped pages are NOT invalidated. After first attempt of invalidating pages from page-cache from that particular file, Kernel found out that fewer pages (than the ones given to fadvise - in the form of offset/len delta) than expected were invalidated (in other words, it could not invalidate all pages from the the range) so it resolved calling the LRU DRAIN logic. ## lru_add_drain_all LRU stands for Least-Recent-Used algorithm and is used for user mode address space and for page cache (this case). It defines 2 lists of memory pages: active and inactive. The LRU DRAIN logic schedules a drain logic on every CPU on the system in order to drain per-cpu existent page vectors (pagevecs). Page vecs are temporary small & finite data structures containing page descriptor pointers. Instead of changing LRU lists (active/inactive) directly, the LRU algorithm uses per-cpu page vectors until they are full (avoiding having to lock/unlock while LRU lists more often). ## schedule_on_each_cpu Task 883e0c4e2e00 continued the LRU DRAIN logic by scheduling its call back function using schedule_on_each_cpu: schedule_on_each_cpu(drain_cpu_pagevecs) scheduled the drain_cpu_pagevecs on all cpus and kept waiting - for more than 120 seconds - for all cpus to execute the drain. While it was waiting, the task 883e0c4e2e00 was made UNINTERRUPTIBLE and was locked inside this loop where it waits for drain_cpu_pagevecs to finish on all cpus (it never did). ## precise commit (cherry-picked from upstream) adding that logic: commit a68692ea42825466b0ade8a94a98afc924d2564e Author: Mel Gorman Date: Fri Feb 22 16:35:59 2013 -0800 mm/fadvise.c: drain all pagevecs if POSIX_FADV_DONTNEED fails to discard all pages BugLink: http://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1150557 commit 67d46b296a1ba1477c0df8ff3bc5e0167a0b0732 upstream. It was added to Precise (3.2.0-40.64). I'm removing that logic and providing a kernel without it to see if it mitigates the issue. Per original commit description, this was supposed to fix an erratic behaviour seen
