Since my original post a year ago I have had a couple of occurrences of
this problem even on the older kernel version that I'm using. I tried
setting nox2apic as a boot parameter, and it appears to work. The only
time I was getting the error on that kernel version was when I was
resynching a RAID 1 array on 2 2tb USB 3 drives on the same controller.
I got the error today when doing that, so I aborted the resynch and
rebooted with nox2apic. It resynched all 2tb with no occurrences of the
error. Now I'm going to try upgrading the kernel to current and see if
I can cause the error again with nox2apic set.
