[Bug 1547466] Re: grep switches into binary mode while processing a text file

2016-02-25 Thread Stefan Bader
Should add, when this first happened I asked someone else on the team to
check the package build. That was someone in the US, so there at least
would be no special keyboard setting, only the system language which
defaults to en_US.UTF-8.

[Bug 1547466] Re: grep switches into binary mode while processing a text file

2016-02-25 Thread Stefan Bader
I was wondering the same when you could not reported that it does not
happen for you. So I did use wget to pull it to another host from LP.
The result was what I posted in comment #3. That system was a fresh
install (not an upgrade) using the default system language (though
German keyboard and timezone). Buildds and sbuild in Xenial chroots
would fail to build the related package (Xen) , so that environment saw
the same. I worked around that for now by forcing the build to be done
in C.UTF-8.

I still marked the bug high because if that happens to any other package
(should they use grep) it might cause unexplainable FTBS or even go
unnoticed (if the result is not checked, that happened in my case only
because the build uses grep as part of a chain that creates dynamic C
files).

[Bug 1549995] Re: adt-virt-lxc fails on lxc-clone deprecation warning

2016-02-25 Thread Martin Pitt
The failure is fixed by
http://anonscm.debian.org/cgit/autopkgtest/autopkgtest.git/commit/?id=7310b05,
but this isn't the full story yet -- this should use lxc-copy when
available.

Also, all the tests are still broken with current LXC for some other
reasons, there are multiple subtle behaviour changes with 2.0.0~rc2 and
rc3.

[Bug 1550165] [NEW] "My Music" Scope results appear bunched up as results load

2016-02-25 Thread James Henstridge
Public bug reported:

When testing out the music scope, I noticed that the results are
initially sized as if the images were 0x0, before they fill in as they
are loaded. This is most apparent in the "Tracks" department display,
where the results end up overlapping. This is a bit surprising, since
the scope seems to show all the result images at a fixed size, so it'd
be better if the result items reserved this space up front.

As well as looking a bit ugly, this means that the dash ends up
requesting a lot of thumbnails that the user may never scroll down to
see (some of which could slow down loading of the thumbnails that would
display at the top.

Steps to reproduce, on a device running unity8
8.11+15.04.20160216.1-0ubuntu1:

1. load up a bunch of music (I used the ones from
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/thumbnailer/+bug/1542175/comments/1)

2. Open the "My Music" scope.

3. switch departments and watch the images for the results load.

This is noticeable even after thumbnailer-service has cached the scaled
images. I'll attach some images to demonstrate.

** Affects: unity8 (Ubuntu)

 Status: New

This issue is still reproducible on fresh installation of

As far I understand this is installer issue so it have nothing to do
with console-setup package, because if user installed Ubuntu with some

[Bug 1447038] Re: Shutdown/Restart of live session guest does not work in Virtualbox, and VMWare

2016-02-25 Thread Tim
Phill,
Boot with "systemd.debug-shell plymouth:debug" added as kernel params then
when it hangs switch to VT9. You will probably need to manually remount a
partition/usb to get the logs out, since you will be quite late in the shutdown
cycle.

grab `journalctl` output and /var/log/plymouth-debug.log

I can't reproduce on my laptop, though I did poke around previously in a
VM. vbox was I recall having drm issues, vmware just seemed racy (it
worked maybe 1/5 reboots).

Hello Mathieu, or anyone else affected,

Accepted grub2-signed into trusty-proposed. The package will build now
and be available at
https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/grub2-signed/1.34.9 in a few hours,
and then in the -proposed repository.

Please help us by testing this new package. See
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Testing/EnableProposed for documentation how to
enable and use -proposed. Your feedback will aid us getting this update
out to other Ubuntu users.

If this package fixes the bug for you, please add a comment to this bug,
mentioning the version of the package you tested, and change the tag
from verification-needed to verification-done. If it does not fix the
bug for you, please add a comment stating that, and change the tag to
verification-failed. In either case, details of your testing will help
us make a better decision.

Further information regarding the verification process can be found at
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/QATeam/PerformingSRUVerification . Thank you in

[Bug 1467695] Re: Alt-Grave (`) switcher has flickering/pulsing shadow artifacts

2016-02-25 Thread Jonathan Sahagun
Hello, a workaround that I have discovered is to disable framebuffer
objects in the Compiz OpenGL plugin:

gsettings set
org.compiz.opengl:/org/compiz/profiles/unity/plugins/opengl/
framebuffer-object false

Enter that in the terminal and it would take effect immediately; no
logout required. Of course, we can expect that other desktop features
that absolutely need OpenGL framebuffer objects might glitch or be
affected in some way.

And again, this is just a workaround to make the unsightly behaviour go
away, and by no means a fix. It does give a clue, though, that it's
related to the use of framebuffer objects by whatever it is that renders
shadows and glow effects.

[Bug 1527727] Re: grub-probe for zfs assumes all devices prefix with /dev, ignoring /dev/disk/...

2016-02-25 Thread Richard Laager
The upstream change was merged. I propose the following:

1) Update zfs-linux in Xenial with the patch:
https://github.com/zfsonlinux/zfs/commit/d2f3e292dccab23e47ade3c67677a10f353b9e85

2) Patch grub2 in Xenial to setenv("ZPOOL_VDEV_NAME_PATH", "YES")

3) Remove the udev rules from zfs-initramfs in Xenial.

I'll attach debdiffs which accomplish this. They could use a second set
of eyes, as I made these changes quickly. Rather than edit the patch of
the ZFS commit to make it apply, I backported additional man page fixes.

** Patch added: "grub-1527727.debdiff"

[Bug 1550137] Re: Crash loop with rc-proposed build 375

2016-02-25 Thread Michi Henning
After I restarted, and the crash loop went away, I installed some
updates from silo 75 (not related to the crash). I used citrain device-
upgrade. After the reboot, the crash loop was back. Then I re-started,
and the crash loop disappeared again.

It's starting to look like that the crash appears on the first boot
after an update and, thereafter, goes away?

Right, it's the stderr output that throws it off. I'll just ignore

[Bug 1549997] Re: adt-buildvm-ubuntu-cloud missing dependencies?

2016-02-25 Thread Martin Pitt
Suggests: schroot, lxc, lxd-client, qemu-system, qemu-utils

and in the package description:

Depending on which virtualization server you want to use, you need to
install additional packages (schroot, lxc, lxd, or qemu-system)

autopkgtest has lots of different runners, but I don't want to depend on
all of qemu, schroot, lxc, lxd as in many cases you really don't
need/want them all at the same time.

So I'm afraid this error message will have to do for now.

[Bug 1548581] Re: using wacom tablet crashes the whole system in 16.04

2016-02-25 Thread Anthony Dee
Lot's of users have issue with kernel 4.4 and wacom tablets, my wacom
freezes my Arch-linux and nothing, even kernel panic message wont get
into my journal logs, it just ok and then everything freezes, cant tty
cant nothing, you are not alone, my wacom works allright on 4.3 kernel,
so you might want to try that series or if your tablet is older, try
kernel 4.1 series. We can only hope it will be fixed in 4.5 (as many
wacom devs said it has been merged to it), I would appretiate if you
could test 4.5 rc4 ? maybe to observe the wacom behavior and report
back? I am far from my machine and if you will get freezes on 4.5rc4
kernel series and freezes continue I would try to push devs harder to
fix the driver.

[Bug 1550144] [NEW] Old, buggy version in repositories

2016-02-25 Thread Plutocrat
Public bug reported:

The upcoming Xenial release has frozen gnucash version at 2.6.9. This
version contains some significant bugs which are fixed in the later,
current release 2.6.11.

In addition it seems that the documentation is frozen on 2.6.11, while
the actual program is frozen on 2.6.9.

As per the instructions in Freeze Exception Process:
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/FreezeExceptionProcess
I am requesting that the later version of both gnucash and gnucash-docs be
included in the upcoming LTS release of Ubuntu.

As a side note, the more up-to-date release is already available on get-
deb, and has been downloaded and tested by many users.

** Affects: gnucash (Ubuntu)
 Importance: Undecided
 Status: New

[Bug 1550137] [NEW] Crash loop with rc-proposed build 375

2016-02-25 Thread Michi Henning
Public bug reported:

I just flashed 375 from rc-proposed. After the reboot, the shell is
stuck in a crash loop. After unlocking, the shell briefly appears with
the main click scope page showing and the activity bar at the bottom
bouncing left/right. Then the crash, back to the spinner in the center
of the screen ("Scope"), back to the main page, bottom bar bouncing,
crash, ad infinitum.

Crash dump attached.

After rebooting, the crash loop stopped.

Do you have any relay map files in /etc/postfix/? If you don't know, please

[Bug 1549029] Re: No internet connection with 4.2.0-30

2016-02-25 Thread William T. Lowther
Got some guidance from here: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Kernel/MainlineBuilds.
Downloaded these 3 files:
http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/v4.2.8-ckt1-wily/linux-headers-4.2.8-040208ckt1-generic_4.2.8-040208ckt1.201601081730_i386.deb

http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/v4.2.8-ckt1-wily/linux-headers-4.2.8-040208ckt1_4.2.8-040208ckt1.201601081730_all.deb
http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/v4.2.8-ckt1-wily/linux-image-4.2.8-040208ckt1-generic_4.2.8-040208ckt1.201601081730_i386.deb
Then did sudo dpkg -i *.deb
Rebooted, selected "Advanced" when grub appeared, selected ckt1 generic
option for boot.
"Quiet Splash" was removed earlier from the BIOS.
Bootup ended at ~2.5 sec showing "---[end Kernel panic - not syncing: No
working init found. Try passing init= option to kernel. See Linux
Documentation/init.txt for guidance".
I let it sit for ~50 mins but no progress.
Rebooted using the "recovery mode" and "upstart" and got the same results.
Then downloaded the appropriate files for ckt2, but got the same results.
Didn't try ckt3.
Any suggestions on the init= option thingy?
Going to bed.
TIA,
Bill

[Bug 1318678] Re: haveged consumes 100% cpu when used with -w > 4067

2016-02-25 Thread openand
Hi,

There is a possible race condition with the device file and the select
command.

We have had a very sketchy attempt at a fix at ( this is not a
complete fix as much as working with the observed issue ):

https://github.com/Openand-I/haveged/tree/oi

The main changes can be summarized as:

Generic Linux based OS:

- Create a new random device at /dev/entropy/random to mitigate
possible file based locking issues

- Simply restrict write_wakeup_threshold to 4064 in the code itself.

- Change select to epoll. This has the added advantage of blocking
till there is any actual entropy depletion, immediately replenishing
the pool upon every use. It therefore does not loop when no entropy is
required.

- Two epolls, one for reading and one for writing.

- Overflowing the pool with an extra byte. There is some strange
reasoning behind this as it kinda sorta releases the entropy gathered
by the kernel till time.

Android specific:

- Sleep upon device sleep

- Every 4 hours, a simple touch to the threshold parameters file again
kinda sorta feels like releases entropy gathered by kernel till time.
This can possibly be solved in Linux ( which doesn't sleep ) by
setting read_wakeup_threshold to 8.

Works excellent. Verified using strace.

There some very distinct usability improvements on both Android and
Linux, including GUI responsiveness and network connectivity due to
faster random number generation. Will almost certainly help virtual
machines too as they are entropy starved.

Invited author to take a look at this.

There is still the problem of a very slow (u)random device that slows
the entire Linux ecosystem down. It is recommended instead to replace
the (u)random device according to the fortuna ( at least 5x faster )
patch at:

http://jlcooke.ca/random

Thanks.

[Bug 1548864] Re: Ubuntu GNOME Xenial live image boots to tty1

2016-02-25 Thread Tim
24.2 had a new kernel, but all later images have the same, I can't see
anything that changed since that would affect this.

I'm susprised you are seeing this on three different systems, but there
havent been any other reports of this. It may be different bugs that all
cause Xorg to fail loading.

Is it only happening on the Live images? or also on installed system?
You certainly shouldnt see the user menu when booting a live session and
if you do that means presumable that gdm has been respawned at some
point after the failure.

Might be worth testing with a newer kernel, either latest mainline or
the 4.4 in -proposed atm.

[Bug 1550109] Re: oem-config 2.18.8.12 hangs on boot

2016-02-25 Thread dragon_788
This may also be an instance of the newest oem-config pulling in Python3
and triggering this bug,
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/ubiquity/+bug/1362920 which
does NOT appear to be resolved in 14.04.3 or the available packages in
the main repository.

My computer doesn't have built-in bluetooth hardware either, but I'm glad
the software is installed, because I want my bluetooth dongle to work when I
plug it in.

[Bug 1550109] [NEW] oem-config 2.18.8.12 hangs on boot

2016-02-25 Thread dragon_788
Public bug reported:

oem-config 2.18.8.12 pulls in incorrect depends when specifying -gtk
only. On our systems installed from the 14.04.3 server ISO where we have
added Ubuntu MATE packages via the PPA, if we do a system upgrade and
install oem-config-gtk, it pulls in TONS of KDE libraries as well, while
the prior stable version we used (2.18.7) doesn't do so. We also have a
repeatable case where our systems completely hang when booting after
installing the latest version of oem-config-gtk (with KDE bloat) and
running oem-config --prepare and restarting.

[Bug 1520343] Re: Qualcomm Atheros wireless card [168c:003e] (rev 32) not supported

2016-02-25 Thread Nucleo
ok, update:

with 4.2.0-30-generic #35-Ubuntu and the firewalker 3 files, AND ONLY 3 FILES,
5Ghz works.
I had an older firmware-5.bin file in the QCA6174 from the old
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1383184, and removed that.
that seemed to help.

thanks for all your hard work!

lspci -v :: Subsystem: Bigfoot Networks, Inc. Device 1535.

here is the version that works:
