[Bug 1547466] Re: grep switches into binary mode while processing a text file
Should add, when this first happened I asked someone else on the team to check the package build. That was someone in the US, so there at least would be no special keyboard setting, only the system language which defaults to en_US.UTF-8. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1547466 Title: grep switches into binary mode while processing a text file To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/grep/+bug/1547466/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 1547466] Re: grep switches into binary mode while processing a text file
I was wondering the same when you could not reported that it does not happen for you. So I did use wget to pull it to another host from LP. The result was what I posted in comment #3. That system was a fresh install (not an upgrade) using the default system language (though German keyboard and timezone). Buildds and sbuild in Xenial chroots would fail to build the related package (Xen) , so that environment saw the same. I worked around that for now by forcing the build to be done in C.UTF-8. I still marked the bug high because if that happens to any other package (should they use grep) it might cause unexplainable FTBS or even go unnoticed (if the result is not checked, that happened in my case only because the build uses grep as part of a chain that creates dynamic C files).

[Bug 1550165] [NEW] "My Music" Scope results appear bunched up as results load
Public bug reported: When testing out the music scope, I noticed that the results are initially sized as if the images were 0x0, before they fill in as they are loaded. This is most apparent in the "Tracks" department display, where the results end up overlapping. This is a bit surprising, since the scope seems to show all the result images at a fixed size, so it'd be better if the result items reserved this space up front. As well as looking a bit ugly, this means that the dash ends up requesting a lot of thumbnails that the user may never scroll down to see (some of which could slow down loading of the thumbnails that would display at the top. Steps to reproduce, on a device running unity8 8.11+15.04.20160216.1-0ubuntu1: 1. load up a bunch of music (I used the ones from https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/thumbnailer/+bug/1542175/comments/1) 2. Open the "My Music" scope. 3. switch departments and watch the images for the results load. This is noticeable even after thumbnailer-service has cached the scaled images. I'll attach some images to demonstrate. ** Affects: unity8 (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1550165 Title: "My Music" Scope results appear bunched up as results load To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/unity8/+bug/1550165/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1467695] Re: Alt-Grave (`) switcher has flickering/pulsing shadow artifacts
Hello, a workaround that I have discovered is to disable framebuffer objects in the Compiz OpenGL plugin: gsettings set org.compiz.opengl:/org/compiz/profiles/unity/plugins/opengl/ framebuffer-object false Enter that in the terminal and it would take effect immediately; no logout required. Of course, we can expect that other desktop features that absolutely need OpenGL framebuffer objects might glitch or be affected in some way. And again, this is just a workaround to make the unsightly behaviour go away, and by no means a fix. It does give a clue, though, that it's related to the use of framebuffer objects by whatever it is that renders shadows and glow effects. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1467695 Title: Alt-Grave (`) switcher has flickering/pulsing shadow artifacts To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/nux/+bug/1467695/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

The upstream change was merged. I propose the following: 1) Update zfs-linux in Xenial with the patch: https://github.com/zfsonlinux/zfs/commit/d2f3e292dccab23e47ade3c67677a10f353b9e85 2) Patch grub2 in Xenial to setenv("ZPOOL_VDEV_NAME_PATH", "YES") 3) Remove the udev rules from zfs-initramfs in Xenial. I'll attach debdiffs which accomplish this. They could use a second set of eyes, as I made these changes quickly. Rather than edit the patch of the ZFS commit to make it apply, I backported additional man page fixes. ** Patch added: "grub-1527727.debdiff" https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/zfs-linux/+bug/1527727/+attachment/4581525/+files/grub-1527727.debdiff -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1527727 Title: grub-probe for zfs assumes all devices prefix with /dev, ignoring /dev/disk/... Suggests: schroot, lxc, lxd-client, qemu-system, qemu-utils and in the package description: Depending on which virtualization server you want to use, you need to install additional packages (schroot, lxc, lxd, or qemu-system) autopkgtest has lots of different runners, but I don't want to depend on all of qemu, schroot, lxc, lxd as in many cases you really don't need/want them all at the same time. "Quiet Splash" was removed earlier from the BIOS. Bootup ended at ~2.5 sec showing "---[end Kernel panic - not syncing: No working init found. Try passing init= option to kernel. See Linux Documentation/init.txt for guidance". I let it sit for ~50 mins but no progress. Rebooted using the "recovery mode" and "upstart" and got the same results. Then downloaded the appropriate files for ckt2, but got the same results. Didn't try ckt3. Any suggestions on the init= option thingy? Going to bed. [Bug 1318678] Re: haveged consumes 100% cpu when used with -w > 4067
Hi, There is a possible race condition with the device file and the select command. We have had a very sketchy attempt at a fix at ( this is not a complete fix as much as working with the observed issue ): https://github.com/Openand-I/haveged/tree/oi The main changes can be summarized as: Generic Linux based OS: - Create a new random device at /dev/entropy/random to mitigate possible file based locking issues - Simply restrict write_wakeup_threshold to 4064 in the code itself. - Change select to epoll. This has the added advantage of blocking till there is any actual entropy depletion, immediately replenishing the pool upon every use. It therefore does not loop when no entropy is required. - Two epolls, one for reading and one for writing. - Overflowing the pool with an extra byte. There is some strange reasoning behind this as it kinda sorta releases the entropy gathered by the kernel till time. Android specific: - Sleep upon device sleep - Every 4 hours, a simple touch to the threshold parameters file again kinda sorta feels like releases entropy gathered by kernel till time. This can possibly be solved in Linux ( which doesn't sleep ) by setting read_wakeup_threshold to 8. Works excellent. Verified using strace. There some very distinct usability improvements on both Android and Linux, including GUI responsiveness and network connectivity due to faster random number generation. Will almost certainly help virtual machines too as they are entropy starved. Invited author to take a look at this. There is still the problem of a very slow (u)random device that slows the entire Linux ecosystem down. It is recommended instead to replace the (u)random device according to the fortuna ( at least 5x faster ) patch at: http://jlcooke.ca/random Thanks. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1318678 Title: haveged consumes 100% cpu when used with -w > 4067 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/haveged/+bug/1318678/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 1548864] Re: Ubuntu GNOME Xenial live image boots to tty1
24.2 had a new kernel, but all later images have the same, I can't see anything that changed since that would affect this. I'm susprised you are seeing this on three different systems, but there havent been any other reports of this. It may be different bugs that all cause Xorg to fail loading. Is it only happening on the Live images? or also on installed system? You certainly shouldnt see the user menu when booting a live session and if you do that means presumable that gdm has been respawned at some point after the failure. Might be worth testing with a newer kernel, either latest mainline or the 4.4 in -proposed atm. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1548864 Title: Ubuntu GNOME Xenial live image boots to tty1 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/casper/+bug/1548864/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1550109] [NEW] oem-config 2.18.8.12 hangs on boot
Public bug reported: oem-config 2.18.8.12 pulls in incorrect depends when specifying -gtk only. On our systems installed from the 14.04.3 server ISO where we have added Ubuntu MATE packages via the PPA, if we do a system upgrade and install oem-config-gtk, it pulls in TONS of KDE libraries as well, while the prior stable version we used (2.18.7) doesn't do so. We also have a repeatable case where our systems completely hang when booting after installing the latest version of oem-config-gtk (with KDE bloat) and running oem-config --prepare and restarting. ** Affects: ubiquity (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1550109 Title: oem-config 2.18.8.12 hangs on boot To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/ubiquity/+bug/1550109/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
