2016-03-19 Thread Sebastien Bacher
We need a ffe there, I'm unsure, subscribing the release team.

rational copied from the fwupdate MIR

"[Rationale]
fwupdate is a new EFI component for processing firmware updates for systems
which support it. It will be used to allow users to run these upgrades, if
their EFI BIOS allows, without the need to boot into Windows since it might not
be available to them. This is only available for users with UEFI."

[Bug 1546317] [NEW] Accessibility indicator is missing from ubiquity-dm at the "Try Ubuntu" dialog

2016-03-19 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

Steps to reproduce:
1. Boot from a media containing the 15.10 32-bit image. Let it just boot, do
not select anything.
2. After the bongo drum sound, select your language and click "Try Ubuntu".
3. After the desktop has been loaded, start Orca screen reader with the
dedicated Alt+Super+s combination.
Expected: the screen reader comes up talking
Actual: the system remains silent.
4. Try starting Orca from a terminal (Ctrl-Alt-t) and also from the Run dialog
(Alt+F2).
Results are the same as for point 3.

Actually, I guess this may not be a duplicate because there may be other
third-party repositories that need to do similar things (signing with
--digest-algo SHA512 or the equivalent). But see bug 155 for the

Package zfsutils-linux is missing in s390 package repository. This
package provides such ZFS tools like mkfs.zfs, fsck.zfs and stays in

17c4da325caf67876458a05baa833a35931f3133

The test kernel can be downloaded from:
http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~jsalisbury/lp1554003

Can you test that kernel and report back if it has the bug or not? I
will build the next test kernel based on your test results.

Thanks in advance

[Bug 1545173] Re: systemtap does not work on trusty lts-vivid kernel

2016-03-19 Thread Chris J Arges
Hello Dan, or anyone else affected,

Accepted systemtap into trusty-proposed. The package will build now and
be available at
https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/systemtap/2.3-1ubuntu1.4 in a few
hours, and then in the -proposed repository.

Please help us by testing this new package. See
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Testing/EnableProposed for documentation how to
enable and use -proposed. Your feedback will aid us getting this update
out to other Ubuntu users.

If this package fixes the bug for you, please add a comment to this bug,
mentioning the version of the package you tested, and change the tag
from verification-needed to verification-done. If it does not fix the
bug for you, please add a comment stating that, and change the tag to
verification-failed. In either case, details of your testing will help
us make a better decision.

Further information regarding the verification process can be found at
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/QATeam/PerformingSRUVerification . Thank you in
advance!

[Bug 1558818] [NEW] sofware update warning in menu bar

2016-03-19 Thread David J. Lafond
Public bug reported:

i'm frequently getting a warning--a red triangle with a red exclamation
point inside in the menu bar next to the wireless nextwork connection
icon. The drop-down from this says that the information for software
updater is outdated & recommends selecting a menu selection below, "Show
updates." When i do that the dialog that comes says "Repository
information failed to download. i'm running Ubuntu 14.04 LTS & always
install updates whenever they're availalbe. Updater is set to check for
updates at least daily.

The wanring comes up when i've had my computer on for a while whether
it's active or not. If i hit "retry" in the dialog after the repository
information failed to download, it usually comes to the same box again.
If i click "Ok" at that point, it seems to be processing for a short
time then i get "All software on this computer is up to date." i've
tried shutting down & restarting & the red warning box goes away (it's
not there now). i've tried on a fresh start to run software updater from
the lanuch button & it typically fails to load repository information
though a couple of times it has come up with small updates. One of those
times i got a message that some updates failed to download. i haven't
had any big updates lately & they seemed to happen with some regularity
in the past so i'm concerned that i may not be getting updates i should
have. Nonetheless, my machine seems to be running fine otherwise. i
should also mention that the wanring usually appears when i'm actively
on-line though not always. The network is set to connect autmoatically
so it's pretty much always connected to the internet. The other note in
the dialog box with the "Repository information failed to donwload" is
to check the internet connection but i've gotten this in the same
session as having visited a vareity of websites, checked e-mail, read
the NY Times on line or whatever.

i'm not sure if this is a security bug, a software updater bug or a
system bug.

Thank you for whatever light you can shed on this.

david j. lafond

p.s. i don't know if this is a security bug or not. i'm not a programmer
but the red warning raises the question of security for me.

[Bug 1554604] Re: get a GPS fix before the human has to wait for the phone

2016-03-19 Thread Alan Bell
so the procedure for taking a photo will remain that you have to start a
navigation application like google maps, wait for the circle to move and
shrink then switch to the camera and take your photo. This is sub-
optimal - you can't even take a series of photos on a walk without
waking up the GPS with a navigation app for each one.

  ipmi_devintf
  ipmi_poweroff
  ipmi_si

Right after reboot, the modules are there:

  # lsmod |grep -i ipm
  ipmi_si53257 2
  ipmi_poweroff 14366 0
  ipmi_devintf 17572 0
  ipmi_watchdog 24912 0

but disappear after a few seconds/minute. I found out, that the cause is
the /etc/init.d/openipmi script. The behaviour of the script is quite
strange because a stop/start will behave differently then a restart.

I loaded the modules manually using modprobe:
  ipmi_si53257 2
  ipmi_poweroff 14366 0
  ipmi_devintf 17572 0
  ipmi_watchdog 24912 0

  when I execute:
  # service openipmi stop

  the module ipmi_devintf gets removed:

  ipmi_si53257 2
  ipmi_poweroff 14366 0
  ipmi_watchdog 24912 0

  starting the service again with:

  # service openipmi start

will remove ALL IPMI kernel modules:

  # lsmod |grep -i ipm
  #

One of the reasons seems to be the module ipmi_msghandler. This is
already integrated and causes some of the problems.

When I remove it from /etc/init.d/openipmi like this:

  65,66c65
  < #MODULES_BASE="ipmi_msghandler"
  < MODULES_BASE=""
  ---
  > MODULES_BASE="ipmi_msghandler"
  325,326c324,325
  < # modprobe ipmi_msghandler > /dev/null 2>&1
  < # modules_loaded ipmi_msghandler
  ---
  > modprobe ipmi_msghandler > /dev/null 2>&1
  > modules_loaded ipmi_msghandler

stoping and starting the service works again. But restarting the service
will still remove all modules and will not load them anymore.
+
+ [Impact]
+ Issuing `service openipmi {start, stop, restart}` failures lead to unloading of
IPMI modules that were previously loaded. Particularly on OpenPower systems,
but also on others, this will result in 'ipmi_devintf' being unloaded during
boot, and in-band IPMI being non-functional (amongst other IPMI functionality).
+
+ [Test Case]
+ On an OpenPower machine (this also happens on an appropriately configured
(meaning without IPMI support) Intel qemu instance), load IPMI modules (in
particular, ipmi_devintf, but any of them can be affected). Attempt to start
the openipmi service with `service openipmi start`. Without the fix proposed,
here, the ipmi_devintf module is unloaded. With the fix, the module stays
loaded.
+
+ [Regression Potential]
+ The primary risk of regression is if an end-user was relying on the behavior
of an error during openipmi initialization resulting in disabling of all IPMI
functionality. I don't think that is reasonable behavior to rely on, though
(and is not clearly documented anywhere as expected).

[Bug 1557288] Re: zfs support on s390

2016-03-19 Thread Dimitri John Ledkov
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 1519814 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1519814

Built and published for s390x on 17th of march, migrated to release pocket 21
hours ago.
This is user space tooling and dkms module.
The source code for pre-compiled module in the linux source tree will be
undergoing zfs on s390x stress testing via kernel team unstable ppa next week.
Preliminary tests show that zfs does work on s390x - e.g. can
create/delete/modify pools etc. Upon successful stress test, the kernel config
will be changed to ship a precompiled zfs.ko module in the linux package.

[Bug 1558604] Re: while booting, just before log in screen appears

2016-03-19 Thread Joseph Salisbury
Did this issue start happening after an update/upgrade? Was there a
prior kernel version where you were not having this particular problem?

Would it be possible for you to test the latest upstream kernel? Refer
to https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds . Please test the latest
v4.5 kernel[0].

If this bug is fixed in the mainline kernel, please add the following
tag 'kernel-fixed-upstream'.

If the mainline kernel does not fix this bug, please add the tag:
'kernel-bug-exists-upstream'.

Once testing of the upstream kernel is complete, please mark this bug as
"Confirmed".

Thanks in advance.

In my case, may have been change of ip address on server(reset of router
dhcp tables) I had locked server to ip address in router and set bind
address in my.cnf to that address to allow logins across my network.).
Update has gone through and Ive changed my.cnf to listen on all
interfaces (bind-address = 0.0.0.0 ) in case ip adresss of server
changes again. As far as Im concerned this bug can be closed.

[Bug 1558069] [NEW] Login complains "Your environment specifies an invalid locale", doesn't say which locale

2016-03-19 Thread Graham Leggett
Public bug reported:

On login to a brand new trusty machine with all updates applied, the
following message appears:

_
WARNING! Your environment specifies an invalid locale.
This can affect your user experience significantly, including the
ability to manage packages. You may install the locales by running:

   sudo apt-get install language-pack-UTF-8
 or
   sudo locale-gen UTF-8

To see all available language packs, run:
   apt-cache search "^language-pack-[a-z][a-z]$"
To disable this message for all users, run:
   sudo touch /var/lib/cloud/instance/locale-check.skip
_

- The message complains about an invalid locale, but then doesn't tell
you what the locale is or what is invalid about it.

- The suggested advice "sudo apt-get install language-pack-UTF-8" breaks
as follows:

ubuntu@z4-dev-black-wap01:~$ sudo apt-get install language-pack-UTF-8
Reading package lists... Done
Building dependency tree
Reading state information... Done
E: Unable to locate package language-pack-UTF-8

The above warning needs to be fixed to contain the locate that is
invalid, and to provide accurate package names in the advice given to
fix it.

== Comment: #1 - Hendrik Brueckner - 2016-03-16 09:15:35 ==

Option 4 is for wireless configuration which does not exist on s390.
The problem here is that the list of choices is implemented in the
templates file itself and becomes replaced. The wireless choice is
replaced with an empty string.

A possible solution would be to create the complete choices string
within the netcfg module. However, this might have an impact on
translation then.

I will leave the final decision up to Canonical how to solve this.

Thanks.

[Bug 1559070] [NEW] SVG icons not shown / "yelp " fails

2016-03-19 Thread Gunnar Hjalmarsson
Public bug reported:

The latest yelp version in Xenial doesn't show SVG icons in Ubuntu Help.
Example icon:

/usr/share/icons/ubuntu-mono-light/status/22/system-devices-panel.svg

SVG files are displayed in GNOME Help, but there they use relative paths
to the files (included in package). Don't understand why that would make
a difference, though.

Another issue is that calling yelp with the path to a .page file as
argument fails with: "Unknown Error - URL cannot be shown".

Downgrading to the Wily version 3.16.1-1ubuntu1 of yelp and libyelp0
fixes both issues.

[Bug 1556306] Re: vhost-user: qemu stops processing packets under high load of traffic

2016-03-19 Thread cargonza
apologize but I was corrected that for qemu issues. The bug should be in
the following:

Distribution: ubuntu
package: qemu <--instead of project.

I will correct this in the bug.

** Project changed: qemu => qemu (Ubuntu)

[Bug 1550726] Re: [apt-utils] Changing "Section", "Maintainer" or "Depends" (and probably some others) fields in a control file makes apt-ftparchive miss the new package in "Packages" file.

2016-03-19 Thread jean-christophe manciot
I've just added apt 1.2.7 to the repository and the following packages are not
included in "Packages":
- apt-utils_1.2.7; I've noticed that only "Version" and apt version in
"Depends" have changed, and the "Installed Size" has not changed.
- libapt-inst2.0_1.2.7
- libapt-pkg-doc_1.2.7_all.deb

However, I've just found a workaround: if I delete packages-amd64.db and
rerun apt-ftparchive, all packages are present in "Packages".

[Bug 1530012] Re: Asus Touch not detected in AUSUS F555U after installation of Ubuntu.

2016-03-19 Thread Saksham Singh
Hi Christopher,

The latest kernel (4.5-rc7 has fixed my touch-pad), thanks a million for
this.

However I've some previous kernels installed on my sysytem;

sakshamsingh@saksham-X555UJ:~$ dpkg --get-selections | grep
"linux-image-[[:digit:]].*" | tr "\t" ";" | cut -d ";" -f1
linux-image-3.19.0-43-generic
linux-image-3.19.0-47-generic
linux-image-4.5.0-040500rc7-generic
linux-image-4.5.0-040500rc7-lowlatency
sakshamsingh@saksham-X555UJ:~$

Should I get rid of:
linux-image-3.19.0-43-generic and
linux-image-3.19.0-47-generic

Please suggest.

Thanks.

[Bug 1556241] Re: installer sets "iface encf5f0 inet dhcp" although a static IP address was preseeded

2016-03-19 Thread Dimitri John Ledkov
Hello,

Where did the:
/etc/network/interfaces.d/encf5f0
allow-hotplug encf5f0
iface encf5f0 inet dhcp

Come from? I don't believe installer, nor any default automation writes
any files into interface.d directory. At install time, only
/etc/network/interfaces file should be generated with is correct.

The preseed file comes without any network configuration information, I
presume network configuration would have been done via paramfile.

Could you please attach /var/log/installer? And/or correct a crash
report with $ apport-bug debian-installer and attach the resultant
report to this bug report.

We need to find out how that interfaces.d/ snippet got created/written,
as I'm failing to reproduce it.

[Bug 1522772] Re: logrotate config file matches the wrong files

I’ve tested this on Kilo release ( on Ubuntu Trusty server 14.04) and observed
that glance-api.log and glance-registry log files are getting rotated on a
daily basis .
And also old files are getting compressed.

Checked the default configuration in "/etc/logrotate.d/glance-common"
file and that has the below entry. This seems to be correct.

/var/log/glance/*.log {
daily
missingok
compress
delaycompress
copytruncate
notifempty
}

looks like it's working as expected.

[Bug 1558823] Re: ddebs.ubuntu.com gpg signatures use sha-1

2016-03-19 Thread Ubuntu Foundations Team Bug Bot
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. It seems that your bug report is not filed about a
specific source package though, rather it is just filed against Ubuntu
in general. It is important that bug reports be filed about source
packages so that people interested in the package can find the bugs
about it. You can find some hints about determining what package your
bug might be about at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage.
You might also ask for help in the #ubuntu-bugs irc channel on Freenode.

To change the source package that this bug is filed about visit
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/1558823/+editstatus and add the
package name in the text box next to the word Package.

[This is an automated message. I apologize if it reached you
inappropriately; please just reply to this message indicating so.]
