For many of us, if we use Ubuntu it is for the ease of use, so moving to
another Linux distro (with probably a lot of other bugs and less ease of use)
is not a solution.
If I would accept to lose the ease of use, so I would move to a BSD (OpenBSD

Thanks. This is probably the same issue as bug 1553328. Mesa and many
other bits have changed since that was reported. So the symptoms could
easily have changed.
We (mir-team) should re-test nouveau for bug 1553328 and possibly change
the description to match this bug if appropriate now.

[Impact]
When pinctrl-cherryview probing gpio device it clear interrupt mask and status,
and in the later procedures the interrupt mask isn't set back correctly, leads
to hotkeys fail.
[Fix]
Upstream fixes this in 4.8-rc3 by not clearing interrupt masks:

gedit just updated to version 3.21.90 - problem persists.
