[Bug 1632808] [NEW] configure_networking exits without any ipv6 routes

2016-10-12 Thread LaMont Jones
Public bug reported:

Because DHCPv6 only does addresses, and not routes, configure_networking
needs to wait for the kernel to process a router-advertisement before
returning claiming an IPv6 config (since all it will have is a /128 and
no routes, making for a pretty useless network stack.) See Bug #1609898
for context.

(The syntax for ip= should probably also be extended to allow SLAAC
configuration. If the user said "dhcp", then we should insist on
getting our answer from DHCP.)

On the bright side, iscsi retries, so after 1 or more failures to
connect, the router-advertisement comes in and the connect succeeds.

I was able to reproduce this bug on a Pentium 4 with a GeForce 6600.
Installing nvidia-304 rather than updates gives the exact same problem.
I will try to reproduce it with a different 6600 to see if it has to do
with the maker (my current card is a PNY).

[Bug 1632804] [NEW] ROUNDTTT in configure_networking is effectively ignored

2016-10-12 Thread LaMont Jones
Public bug reported:

With the changes from Bug #1621507, ROUNDTTT is effectively ignored.

The loop checks only for the existence of /run/net-${DEVICE}.conf, and
the dhclient scripts ALWAYS (even on failure) create it, it will try to
get a lease exactly once before bailing out. Ideally, if both ipv4 and
ipv6 are present on the vlan, then both would be configured and (as is
done) present in the net-$DEV.conf file. Generally speaking (and why we
didn't notice this in testing..), dhclient gets a lease on the first
pass.

[Bug 1632767] Re: yakkety: desktop ISO fails to reboot after install: Failed deactivating swap

Tested on QEMU in BIOS and UEFI mode, which is where the screenshot is

although I don't see this particular debugging output on hardware.

  Expected Behavior:
I should received a prompt to enter my encryption key and the system should

  Steps to Reproduce:

  2. Start install, select "Guided - Use entire disk and set up encrypted LVM"
otherwise choose defaults.
  3. Post-install the system will start to boot and you will get a black
screen. Text is printed in clear text, changing to other consoles does not help
or provide any additional details.
  4. If you reset and boot into recovery mode, which will ask for your
encryption key and then boot into recovery mode successfully. Once there, you
can continue to boot the system will boot up successfully as well.

[Bug 1631644] Re: Built in microSD card reader not working

2016-10-12 Thread jagdtigger
This was taken from a live session, i wanted to install ubuntu on the SD
card because the internal storage has windows on it and its too small
for 2 OS. I tried the 16.04 LTS and it had this problem, then i tried
one of the daily builds(the bug report came from that).

I can try to test it with the kernel you suggest, but unfortunately only
tomorrow. Im working in night shift...

[Bug 1631994] Re: Update evolution to 3.22.1

2016-10-12 Thread Jeremy Bicha
** Description changed:

- .
+ Impact
+ ==
+ * New upstream bugfix release (LP: #1631994)
+ * Bump minimum evolution-data-server to 3.22.1
+ * Drop git patches applied in new version
+ * Add git_fix-saving-email-signatures.patch:
+ - Backport patch from 3.22 branch to fix adding or editing email signatures
+
+ https://git.gnome.org/browse/evolution/tree/NEWS/?h=gnome-3-22
+ https://git.gnome.org/browse/evolution/log/?h=gnome-3-22
+
+ There are quite a few changes in this update: many are related to the
+ switch to WebKit2 but some changes are fixes for older issues.
+
+ Evolution is now included by default in only the Ubuntu GNOME flavor but
+ is popular among users of other flavors too.
+
+ Test Case
+ =
+ Ensure Evolution still works. Try email, calendar and contacts. Try adding an
email signature. See http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=772150
+
+ Regression Potential
+
+ Low. Evolution has a very large code base. To make this first SRU easier, I
backported several commits to the previous yakkety update. I think the fixes
outweigh the risk here.

[Bug 1579501] Re: graphics distorted, lightdm restarting

2016-10-12 Thread Bruzzlee
Before it worked I tried a lot of different approach. Manually disabling
nouveau before installing the driver, etc.

Here are some steps I did:
(I cant remember the specific order and don't know which had played a decisive
role. Maybe I had a different problem)

- installing the chip set driver (amd64-microcode)
- sudo apt-get remove --purge nvidia-*
- compiled and tested nvidia driver installer by myself (failed to install)
- added following to /etc/modprobe.d/blacklist-nouveau.conf
blacklist nouveau
blacklist lbm-nouveau
options nouveau modeset=0
alias nouveau off
alias lbm-nouveau off
- echo options nouveau modeset=0 | sudo tee -a /etc/modprobe.d/nouveau-kms.conf
- sudo update-initramfs -u
- sudo rm /etc/X11/xorg.conf
- echo 'nouveau' | sudo tee -a /etc/modules

Hope it helps someone.
Let me know if you need anything like versions, logs, etc.

[Bug 1617440] Re: [SRU] Juju 2-rc3 for Xenial

2016-10-12 Thread Nicholas Skaggs
** Description changed:

Juju 2.0 is not quite final, as per the risks and timeline outlined in
the FFe for Xenial, bug 1545913. As such, we intend to release SRU's
- post-xenial release. This updates juju to the lastest 2.0 milestone
- version.
+ post-xenial release. This updates juju to an upgradeable RC which is
+ usable for production deployments.

  [SRU Information]

juju-core has a stable release exception, including for major version
  updates, https://wiki.ubuntu.com/JujuUpdates.

  [Impact]
- This update brings many critical fixes and enhancements in comparison to the
current beta15 release.
+ This update fixes the LXD regression affecting juju in xenial: bug 1614559.
+ It also removes 32-bit packages and provides a debconf notice upon
installation or upgrade. See
https://lists.ubuntu.com/archives/ubuntu-release/2016-September/003882.html .
+
+ In addition, numerous bug fixes have occurred bringing juju up to
+ production readiness. This release can be upgraded to 2.0 GA which will
+ release shortly.

A full list of targeted bugs can be seen against the milestone, and the
  intervening milestones:

- https://launchpad.net/juju-core/+milestone/2.0-beta17
-
- Most importantly, the LXD regression affecting juju in xenial is fixed:
- bug 1614559
+ https://launchpad.net/juju/2.0/2.0-beta16
+ https://launchpad.net/juju/2.0/2.0-beta17
+ https://launchpad.net/juju/2.0/2.0-beta18
+ https://launchpad.net/juju/2.0/2.0-rc1

  [QA/Testing]
Juju practices continuous integration and testing of the juju source tree.
The results for this release can be seen here.

In addition, juju has adt test coverage for all supported archs,
  http://autopkgtest.ubuntu.com/packages/j/juju-core/.

+ Specific to this package, the current test suite passes within our test
+ infrastructure, as well as within yakkety.
+
Finally, manual verification and testing of the package has been done
  per https://wiki.ubuntu.com/JujuUpdates

Yes, Xenials daily iso of yesterday also worked.

I even tried to get this upstream via yaboot-de...@lists.ozlabs.org as
stated on https://lists.ozlabs.org/listinfo/ but there my message sits
waiting to get approved by the list moderator since 2 weeks...

"Hello!

[Bug 1626345] Re: After rebooting for updates, reboot is still required.

2016-10-12 Thread Barry Kolts
Brian,

Yesterday we had kernel updates. My server, which is set to
automatically reboot, reboot fine and no /var/run/reboot-required. This
morning there was no second reboot, so everything was as expected. The I
ran autoremove to remove the stale kernel. Then I had /var/run/reboot-
required and /var/run/reboot-required.pkgs contained linux-base. So I
wouldn't think removing a kernel should require a reboot. So is this a
bug or am I not understand how this should work?

I confirmed this on a second 16.04 server

Attached are the /var/log/apt/history.logs from before autoremove and
after.

Re: [Bug 1606089] Re: unable to boot after 'entire disk' install (16.10, ppc)

2016-10-12 Thread Herminio
I do not believe yaboot has in active development in a long time
upstream. The last set of commits were in 2008 see:
https://github.com/pnasrat/yaboot/commits/master

I think we are just stuck with make a separate ext2 /boot partition.

[Bug 1631880] Re: Display error when input wrong SIM code.

2016-10-12 Thread Pat McGowan
Not sure if this is something about how the dialog is done or if it the
TextEntry component. On an incorrect pin we do a selectall on the input
field and the bubbles should be displayed with the selected text,
instead they are drawn where the field would be if the OSK was not also
displayed.

I've subscribed pitti, in an effort to a.) have him review my changes
b.) ask if there is any other way to do this. i've verified in ifupdown
source that 'ifdown -a' will ultimately get '/bin/ip link set dev eth0
down' called.

[Bug 1582958] Re: reboot-required.pkgs dose not clear after rebooting

2016-10-12 Thread Patrick Pfeifer
I have the same problem.

I will "fix" my system now by "making /var/run a symlink to /run." as
Steve suggested. Unfortunately "Ubuntu" has not been doing that for me
in my case. The two paths are separate directories. Only /run is a
tmpfs. /var/run is on the root filesystem.

System: Ubuntu 14.04.5 LTS

Originally "installed" in January 2015 by "pasting" (dd) a cloud-image
to the (Virtual Servers) hard disk.

[Bug 1456834] Re: Simple Scan and Sane hang greyed out

2016-10-12 Thread David Oxland
My problem now fixed by going very carefully through the brother brscan4
instructions.
They are quite lengthy and call for a # of preconditions to be met.
 Successfully installed and in service.
This, after an upgrade to Ubuntu 16.04.

[Bug 1574333] Re: LVM-based server does not boot with kernel 4.4 (but works with 4.2)

2016-10-12 Thread Tjalling Ran
The issue is still present with 4.4.0-42. It's completely preventing me
from booting into Ubuntu. The error message is as follows:

lvmetad is not active yet, using direct activation during sysinit
rootfs: clean, 271911/1831424 files, 1561286/7323648 blocks

Here, "rootfs" is my root filesystem (ext4), located on an LVM logical
volume.

I also tried the following kernels (from
http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/) as well:
- v4.4.14-xenial
(http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/v4.4.14-xenial/)
- v4.7.7 (http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/v4.7.7/)
- v4.8.1 (http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/v4.8.1/)

I installed these by booting a live cd and chrooting into the "rootfs"
filesystem, and then updating grub.

The problem is still present in all of these kernels (with the slight
variation that the error message is only shown briefly, and replaced by
a blank screen)

** Summary changed:

By the way this is almost certainly an upstream bug because headphone
jack is also not working on several other distributions I tested, none
of them are Ubuntu based so this bug goes beyond Ubuntu.

[Bug 1572801] Re: Ubuntu 16.04 Unity desktop uses much more ram than Ubuntu 15.10

2016-10-12 Thread Mozg
It's got something to do with the kernel. Done a quick test using the
latest kernel 4.4.0-42-generic. Restarted my pc and logged in. Opened
terminal and mem usage was 1.8gb.

Done the same with the latest 4.8.1 kernel from ubuntu kernels page and
the usage was only 673mb.

Crazy!
