Yes, this is a boinc issue probably, but I don't think there is a sane way to
do such check, on seti upgrade, specially when seti has so few upgrades.
such link is not handled at all by boinc-app-seti package

You don't need to apply the patch manually. I am going to fix some
remaining issues and put it in one of the next SRUs. Unfortunately we
have some other priorities now and you might need to wait a few more
weeks to see it on Xenial. When the fix is released we are going to
update the bug status to
bug 1633479 actually was released to -updates now, so is there still
actually some observable behaviour difference that can be used to both
justify and verify this update?

FYI - it was reported that: "This is a high importance bug that can
cause email to "disappear" since Mailman gets an exception and just puts
the email into the shunt directory."
