[Bug 1722041] Re: No Ubuntu wayland option when swiching user with automatic login

2017-10-08 Thread Daniel van Vugt
I find that the same happens randomly without automatic login, and
without even logging in a first time. Just randomly some login options
including the Ubuntu wayland one are missing. Have to reboot once or
twice to get the option back.

[Bug 1718573] Re: Cannot unlock lock screen

2017-10-08 Thread Daniel van Vugt
Your GUI is hanging

Sep 21 14:30:43 hostname org.gnome.Shell.desktop[2881]: Window manager
warning: last_user_time (850630) is greater than comparison timestamp
(850629). This most likely represents a buggy client sending inaccurate
timestamps in messages such as _NET_ACTIVE_WINDOW. Trying to work
around...

for apparently the same reasons as the kernel:

Sep 21 15:25:24 hostname kernel: [drm:intel_pipe_update_end [i915]]
*ERROR* Atomic update failure on pipe A (start=56315 end=56316) time 495
us, min 763, max 767, scanline start 762, end 786

which is a hardware/firmware bug (!?):

Sep 21 14:16:41 hostname kernel: [Firmware Bug]: TSC ADJUST: CPU0: -1008111239
force to 0
Sep 21 14:16:41 hostname kernel: [Firmware Bug]: TSC ADJUST differs: Reference
CPU0: -1008111239 CPU1: 0
Sep 21 14:16:41 hostname kernel: #2

CPU0: -1008111239 CPU2: 0

Sep 21 14:16:41 hostname kernel: [Firmware Bug]: TSC ADJUST differs: Reference
CPU0: -1008111239 CPU3: 0

I've never seen this happen before but have encountered plenty of code
over the years where such bugs were expected and had to be handled. It
sounds like you may need a different kernel, different BIOS, or new
firmware from Intel. It's certainly not gnome-shell's fault that it
might hang in such a volatile environment.

[Bug 1452096] Re: "Calibrate" in Systems Stettings -> Color disabled.

2017-10-08 Thread D. Evans
Really, over 2 years and someone considers this "confirmed" as of 6
hours ago?

I've moved onto the 16.04 release.

I did have a calibration device attached but I couldn't find drivers for
it. I had borrowed it from a friend and since it's so long ago I don't
remember the device I was using but it worked a treat on the TV.

I would also point out that you can't load a color profile under 15.04.
If you know what your doing I should have been able to load color
profile to fix the issue but I couldn't even do that.

The ability to load a color profile doesn't work for this same machine,
under 16.04. Or if it is possible it eluded me, even running a root.

[Bug 1712858] Re: system freezes occasionally for several minutes

2017-10-08 Thread Daniel van Vugt
Yes, swapping is the responsibility of the kernel. So if your system
occasionally thrashing then that could cause this bug per comment #3. It
would also explain why the system is able to recover after some
minutes...

Please continue testing but it sounds like the memory hog is the real
bug (plasmashell or others). But that said, using several GB of "virtual
memory" (VSZ in ps) is not a bug. That's just address space and does not
imply any real memory or swap usage. Please monitor RSS (resident set
size) instead to see what's impacting the hardware most (run 'ps aux').

[Bug 1721740] Re: Impossible to install snap: Unexpected change ID returned

2017-10-08 Thread Robert Ancell
The cause appears to be multiple threads accessing the same SnapdClient
object at the same time. This causes multiple requests to be sent at the
same time and snapd-glib has a bug that doesn't handle the replies
correctly. The solution in bug 1718170 is to make a SnapdClient for each
thread, and avoids this issue.

[Bug 1721763] Re: ubuntu is stuck with black screen and blinking cursos at top left on all shutdown or restart

2017-10-08 Thread Edson T. Marques
There is another case that is very strange. The suspend mode is not
working, either, since the kernel 4.12 upgrade onwards (in 4.11 it
worked fine).

When I close the lid of my notebook with it turned on, it appears that it
usually goes into suspend mode, but when I open the notebook lid again the
system does not reattach, staing stuked again in a black screen, this time, it
not always have a blinking cursor on top of the left side. The only way to exit
this state is pressing shuttdown button til notebook being off.

I read, some time ago, that for suspend mode to work fine, it was necessary to
define an appropriate swap space. Well, by the way, I set the size of my swap
so that it would be slightly larger than my ram memory.

I also apologize for reporting these issues here, but I'm not sure how I
could use the apport-bug to report these cases to the correct packages
...

If you have any advice that would guide me to properly report these
bugs, I would appreciate it.

[Bug 1722121] [NEW] Gnome-Terminal ignores theme, preferences is unavailable, and copy not working when launching from right-click desktop

2017-10-08 Thread Eirik

Description:Ubuntu Artful Aardvark (development branch)

  Version table:

Expected behavior

Right-clicking on the desktop and selecting "Open Terminal" should give
me the same terminal as running gnome-terminal or or opening terminal in
the activity view.

What happens
Gnome-Terminal launches with the correct GTK theme, but not the correct theme
variant (light instead of dark). The "Preferences" option is gone from the top
bar. Trying to copy something from the terminal and pasting outputs
"unavailable".

[Bug 1722118] [NEW] No feedback on failed OpenVPN connection

2017-10-08 Thread linex83
Public bug reported:

I imported an OpenVPN configuration file. This worked fine. However,
when I tried to connect to my OpenVPN server, the connection didn't
work. This wasn't obvious though, since the network manager menu
disappears right after clicking "Connect". Indeed, the connection
couldn't possibly work, since I didn't copy the CA and the TA files.
After copying those files next to the config file, the connection
succeeded. However, again, without any feedback, except for the changing
icon in the systray.

My minimal expectation would be to see an error message when the
connection fails for whatever reason.

I have further issues with network manager or the openvpn plugin:
- I don't like that the menu disappears right away, this does not provide
sufficient feedback to the user on the success of his operation.
- I don't like that the network manager does not automatically suggest to
install the openvpn plugin when trying to import openvpn config files.
