[Bug 1724977] Re: two mouse cursors visible at the same time on rotated screen

2017-10-31 Thread quicksand
I can confirm the exact same behaviour in my 2 monitor setup, one in
portrait mode to the left and one in landscape to the right. I have just
upgraded to 17.10 and, oddly enough, the problem only happens when the
open source Nouveau driver is in use. If I switch to the proprietary
nVidia driver, the second cursor does not appear, as expected.

[Bug 1724810] Re: 17.10/wayland causing flashes in virtualbox

2017-10-31 Thread LocutusOfBorg
Yep, we got the same issue, not sure what wayland is doing, but probably
this is the issue (quoting upstream)

fun: Wayland crashes if you open and close a laptop lid too fast. This is
apparently not a bug but a design error in the protocol.
And it has been causing me endless fun over the past week.

[Bug 1728791] Re: pulseaudio-droid module crashes on start

2017-10-31 Thread Daniel van Vugt
A Stable Release Update would be required to change Ubuntu 16.04. As you
seem to be interested and knowledgeable about module-droid, please
follow the SRU process and you can release an official update yourself!

https://wiki.ubuntu.com/StableReleaseUpdates

P.S. module-droid is not present in Ubuntu 17.10 or later so you can
skip "1. Check that the bug is fixed in the current development release
...".

[Bug 1724810] Re: 17.10/wayland causing flashes in virtualbox

2017-10-31 Thread Daniel van Vugt
Note that "Wayland" is not a display server. Wayland is just a protocol
that apps can use to talk to any compatible display server.

The product you're using is "gnome-shell", and the offending component
is possibly "mutter" if not "gnome-shell".

I can provide the bug description, however I am not familiar enough with
debian packaging to follow the step 3.5 :-(

Is there any documentation on how to prepare an upload? Currently what
I've done is basically apt-get source and dpkg-buildpackage'd the
package and tested the change.

[Bug 1728791] Re: pulseaudio-droid module crashes on start

2017-10-31 Thread Daniel van Vugt
To make a debdiff you need two input files OLD.dsc and NEW.dsc.

OLD.dsc you get from the current release; either from 'apt-get source' or from:
https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/pulseaudio/1:8.0-0ubuntu3.4

NEW.dsc is made from your modified pulseaudio source tree (that was
based on 'apt-get source'). Inside the source tree run 'debuild -S' to
automatically generate a NEW.dsc in the parent directory of the source
tree.

Now that you have both OLD.dsc and NEW.dsc you can make a debdiff:
  debdiff OLD.dsc NEW.dsc > RESULT.debdiff

[Bug 1721345] Re: ALC295 codec seems to have Master and PCM channels swapped

2017-10-31 Thread Dylan Borg
Your patch added an extra requirement to get sound, i.e. that the
Headphone volume has to be raised in order to get sound from speakers.
It is not only counter-intuitive but also works against how PA operates
in general. PA does not raise Headphone volume unless headphones are
actually plugged in.

[Bug 1728855] [NEW] gkrellm network settings code can lead to reproducable instant X server crashes

2017-10-31 Thread Fionn
Public bug reported:

A user that uses gkrellm alonside virtualbox for some months will experience
problems that may crash X instantly and reproducably.

Steps to reproduce:
 * Use gkrellm with network monitors
 * Use virtualbox for some time.
It will create virtual network devices with names that constantly change.
Apparently
gkrellm tracks all of them in its config file and never forgets any of them.
After some time you will have a gkrellm user-config filled with hundrets of
lines like this:
 net enables veth52730d0 1 1 0
 net enables veth56844d4 1 1 0
 net enables veth59140bf 1 1 0
 net chart_config veth59140bf 40 300 0 1 0 0 : 0 0 0 0 500 : 0 0 0 0 500
 net enables vethfc4e0e4 1 1 0
 net chart_config vethfc4e0e4 40 5 0 1 0 0 : 0 0 0 0 500 : 0 0 0 0 500
 net enables vethf11a8dd 1 1 0
 net enables vethf94ed79 1 1 0
 net enables vethf620cbd 1 1 0
 net enables vethfeca6a1 1 1 0
 net enables veth59748a4 1 1 0
 net chart_config veth59748a4 40 300 0 1 0 0 : 0 0 0 0 500 : 0 0 0 0 500
 net enables veth2214351 1 1 0
 * now try to open the network monitor config panel in gkrellm. Your X will
crash instantly.

[Bug 1716160] Re: System goes to sleep with external monitor and lid closed after login

2017-10-31 Thread cagara
I can also confirm that bug on the latest 17.10.
It is getting old!

I got a T460p attached to a docking station. Whenever I try to log in,
the laptop goes into sleep mode. The only way to get to the Desktop is
to repeatedly press the power button and try to login in until it
eventually - yet not deterministically - works.

I am a bit intimidated by the fact that other people with this problem
are not being taken seriously. To clarify once again: this is not a
configuration issue! We do not need to set anything in ubuntu-tweak-tool
because - and here, I can only speak for myself - we really do want the
sleep on lid close function; just not with a docking station attached.

[Bug 1726224] Re: wacom invisible mouse pointer in wayland

2017-10-31 Thread Alessandro
I have the same issue. After upgrading to 17.10 with Wayland, connecting
my Wacom graphic tablet results in two independent pointers: one for the
mouse and the other for the tablet pen. In the Gnome shell and in
certain programs, i.e. Firefox (Firefox Quantum beta version), My Paint
1.2, the pen pointer become invisible but the pen can still draw or
click buttons. I tried to check the system settings of Wacom and, when
in focus of the settings window, the pointer turns visible, but if I
leave the focus, it disappears again.

[Bug 1716160] Re: System goes to sleep with external monitor and lid closed after login

2017-10-31 Thread Carlos Gomes
@khurshid-alam
I don't think that a normal user should have to disable stuff after a fresh
install i.o. to make ubuntu work. I believe that this should be patched here
and the patch should be forwarded upstream.

@cagara
You seem to have the same problem as I have.
Though my problem is deterministic: after login (enter password and enter) I
see the desktop for 1 second and then the external monitor & laptop goes sleep.
You can wake up the computer by pressing the power button on the docking
station. You then have to enter the password and enter again to get into the
desktop. The laptop should not sleep anymore.

Hope it helps until this is fixed

[Bug 1728867] [NEW] double free or corruption (!prev)

2017-10-31 Thread Will Bryant
Public bug reported:

After switching from the MySQL client library to this MariaDB library,
we and others have noticed sporadic crashes with the error "double free
or corruption (!prev)" and a backtrace pointing to libmariadb.so.2. For
us, the problem was more likely to occur when using a SELECT query with
a large number of columns, but we have also observed it randomly at
other times.

We use the Ruby mysql2 library, and others had already reported the
crash there as https://github.com/brianmario/mysql2/issues/806, but
since it doesn't occur with the normal mysql library they weren't making
much headway.

But it turns out that the same crash (not involving Ruby) was however
already reported upstream at
https://mariadb.atlassian.net/browse/CONC-64, and was found to have the
same root cause as https://mariadb.atlassian.net/browse/CONC-92.

That CONC-92 ticket includes a patch for the bug
(https://mariadb.atlassian.net/secure/attachment/29803/mariadb-2.0.0-conc-92.patch),
which was merged post 2.0.0.

I have manually applied this patch to the xenial source package and
rebuilt, and I think it has fixed the issue for me.

So could this patch please be applied to the Xenial version of this
package?

Zesty and Artful are on later versions of the library so should already
have this fix.

[Bug 1728882] [NEW] I can't upgrade to 17.10 from 17.04

2017-10-31 Thread Ricky Ramone
Public bug reported:

The message I get is (I am translating from Spanish):

"It is not possible to calculate the upgrade. There has been a problem while
calculating the upgrade. This could be caused by:
- Upgrading to an Ubuntu version not released yet.
- Being running the current version of Ubuntu, not released yet.
- Non-official software packages not provided by Ubuntu.
If none of this applies, inform of this error using the command "ubuntu-bug
ubuntu-release-upgrader-core" from a terminal"

The 2 first options do not apply to my case. And to avoid the 3rd
option, I have uninstalled all of the non-official packages that I had
(dropbox, owncloud, chrome, spotify and virtualbox), and disabled the
corresponding sources in /etc/apt/sources.list.d/, without success.

[Bug 1727275] Re: ubuntu_sysdig_smoke_test failed on azure 4.11 kernel

2017-10-31 Thread Łukasz Zemczak
Hello Po-Hsu, or anyone else affected,

Accepted sysdig into xenial-proposed. The package will build now and be
available at https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/sysdig/0.8.0-1ubuntu3
in a few hours, and then in the -proposed repository.

Please help us by testing this new package. See
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Testing/EnableProposed for documentation on how
to enable and use -proposed.Your feedback will aid us getting this
update out to other Ubuntu users.

If this package fixes the bug for you, please add a comment to this bug,
mentioning the version of the package you tested and change the tag from
verification-needed-xenial to verification-done-xenial. If it does not
fix the bug for you, please add a comment stating that, and change the
tag to verification-failed-xenial. In either case, details of your
testing will help us make a better decision.

Further information regarding the verification process can be found at
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/QATeam/PerformingSRUVerification . Thank you in
advance!

** Changed in: sysdig (Ubuntu Xenial)
   Status: New => Fix Committed

[Bug 1722478] Re: Two-finger scrolling no longer works after resuming from suspend

2017-10-31 Thread Ghislain Antony Vaillant
@fgod1983

Download the .deb files for amd64 listed in http://kernel.ubuntu.com
/~kernel-ppa/mainline/v4.11.12/. Open a terminal in your download folder
and run `apt install ./linux*4.11.12*.deb`. After the install is
completed, reboot your laptop, and select kernel 4.11.12 in the grub
selection window early in the boot stage. You might have to press the
shift hey to display the kernel selection, which is hidden by default in
Ubuntu (plain purple window at boot).
