Workaround to get some terminal output: Disable automatic downloads of updated files. The key here is that you need to show details on progress during the download phase as the bug affects the download progress window too, otherwise you'll get the "one- liner". [Bug 1745723] [NEW] kate package indirectly depends on libvlccore8
Public bug reported: Installing Kate (on ubuntu 17.10, wayland) works fine. However, there's a dependency that's going to cause difficulties, as follows: kate -> plasma-framework -> libkf5notifications5 -> phonon4qt5 -> phonon4qt5-backend-vlc -> libvlccore8 So Kate now indirectly depends on a VLC package. VLC is moving on, and in version 4.0 installs libvlccore9. This gives a conflict since it seems both versions of libvlccore cannot co-exist. I'm not knowledgeable enough to know whether two versions of such a package should in principle be able to co-exist, but currently they can't, which means Kate and VLC 4 conflict and cannot both be installed at the same time from ppas. I've got around this for myself by compiling and installing Kate locally (not without minor problems with the run-time instructions for env.sh which seem not to work exactly as specified). ** Affects: kate (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1745723 Title: kate package indirectly depends on libvlccore8 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/kate/+bug/1745723/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

As previously mentioned, if you downloaded the beta version of ClamAV 0.99.3, you will need to completely uninstall it and do a fresh install with the production version of 0.99.3 as there are significant code differences. Also, please ensure that you read our blog post on ClamAV Version Number Adjustments to ensure that you are staying current with our future plans for releases. This release is a security release and is recommended for all ClamAV users. Please see details below: CVE-2017-12374 1. ClamAV UAF (use-after-free) Vulnerabilities The ClamAV AntiVirus software versions 0.99.2 and prior contain a vulnerability that could allow an unauthenticated, remote attacker to cause a denial of service (DoS) condition on an affected device. The vulnerability is due to a lack of input validation checking mechanisms during certain mail parsing operations. If successfully exploited, the ClamAV software could allow a variable pointing to the mail body which could cause a used after being free (use-after-free) instance which may lead to a disruption of services on an affected device to include a denial of service condition. CVSS:3.0/AV:N/AC:L/PR:N/UI:N/S:U/C:N/I:N/A:H https://bugzilla.clamav.net/show_bug.cgi?id=11939 CVE-2017-12375 2. ClamAV Buffer Overflow Vulnerability The ClamAV AntiVirus software versions 0.99.2 and prior contain a vulnerability that could allow an unauthenticated, remote attacker to cause a denial of service (DoS) condition on an affected device. The vulnerability is due to a lack of input validation checking mechanisms during certain mail parsing functions. An unauthenticated, remote attacker could exploit this vulnerability by sending a crafted email to the affected device. This action could cause a buffer overflow condition when ClamAV scans the malicious email, allowing the attacker to potentially cause a DoS condition on an affected device. [Bug 1547466] Re: grep switches into binary mode while processing a text file under the C locale
I just tripped over something like this with grep v3.1-2 (Ubuntu 17.10 "artful"). the LC_ALL setting did not make a difference, and grep 3.1 passes the "test case" described in the bug description. I have many text files, but one of them had a string of 49 \x00 chars. What confused me was the switch into binary mode happens on line 1,128,254, but the string of nulls is on line 1,128,436. My method to find the triggering data was : `split -n 2 events.log` repeatedly: testing each half, discarding the half that passes and repeating until I had a failing text file I can manually examine. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1547466 Title: grep switches into binary mode while processing a text file under the C locale To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/grep/+bug/1547466/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Chris J Arges, 4 years have passed but thank you for your support. :-) The startup notification now works but has some big flaws. [Bug 1735362] Re: Replace ibus-sunpinyin with ibus-libpinyin
Please disregard my proposal in comment #19. As explained here: https://lists.debian.org/debian-input-method/2018/01/msg00012.html ibus-libzhuyin, built with libzhuyin-dev 2.1.0, is available in Debian experimental. Furthermore, fcitx-libpinyin provides also a zhuyin- libpinyin input method, so the fcitx-zhuyin package seems now to be redundant. So in addition to the steps already taken, we should sync ibus-libzhuyin 1.8.0-1~exp1 from Debian experimental. Also, as far as I understand, the fcitx-zhuyin and libzhuyin source packages should probably be dropped from the archive. ** Also affects: ibus-libzhuyin (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1735362 Title: Replace ibus-sunpinyin with ibus-libpinyin To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu-seeds/+bug/1735362/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1745491] Re: [bionic] Dependency Hell
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. I was unable to reproduce this issue on Ubuntu bionic. Sometimes when new package versions are rolled out, the archive mirrors get out of sync on some packages which can lead to temporary issues like this. Could you please run `sudo apt update` and see if this resolves your problem? If the issue is still present, please attach the output of `apt policy libwebkit2gtk-4.0-dev libwebkit2gtk-4.0-37". This will tells us which package versions are available for your system. When reporting bugs in the future please use apport by using 'ubuntu- bug' and the name of the package affected. You can learn more about this functionality at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/ReportingBugs. ** Changed in: webkit2gtk (Ubuntu) Status: New => Incomplete ** Tags added: bionic unmetdeps -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1745491 Title: [bionic] Dependency Hell To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/webkit2gtk/+bug/1745491/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
