Would it be possible for you to test the latest upstream kernel? Refer
to https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds . Please test the latest
v4.15 kernel[0].
If this bug is fixed in the mainline kernel, please add the following
tag 'kernel-fixed-upstream'.

@Igor Thank you for your work on this! I tried the elan branch of your
repo, but it creates lots of false positives for me. After enrolling I
can verify with almost every finger. Looking at the scans, this seems to
be caused by the movement estimation often being wrong and hence
minutiae detection
