will only show the first page, but xpdf and evince seem to display page
2 and 5 as you describe. xpdf outputs some error messages:

Christian, got feedback from final user that they can't reproduce the
issue. Wanna go and do the SRU ? They're doing extra tests but the fix
looks straightforward to me and they can verify the package in -proposed
some more if they want. Agreed ?

The colour artefacts seems to have been introduced in 4.8-RC2. 4.8-RC1 is

while sometimes there are links from .so to ..so for
compat reasons that is no hard requirement IMHO.
You are right - it could be added - but anything built on Ubuntu should
get the right linkage on the build.
So for example:
# ldd /usr/bin/odbcinst

If, for some reasons, you does not want the latest release, you still
can 'upgrade' to xenial, using 'sudo do-release-upgrade'
