[Bug 1751070] Re: mutter 3.28 transition

2018-02-24 Thread Jeremy Bicha
** Description changed:

  mutter/gnome-shell transition bug

mutter's soname is being bumped (this will probably happen for every
major new GNOME Shell series) so we'll need to update gnome-shell also
  and rebuild budgie-desktop.

  https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/mutter/blob/master/NEWS
  https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/gnome-shell/blob/master/NEWS
+
+ Known Issues
+
+ - The 70_allow_sound_above_100.patch needs to be rebased (probably by
didrocks)
+ - The "keycaps" (labels for Shift, Enter, etc.) in the new screen keyboard
show in the GNOME session but not the Ubuntu session
+ - ubuntu-session-mods/ubuntu.css probably needs to be rebased (and that will
probably fix the keycaps issue)
+
+ Other Transitions
+ -
+ This will unlock the gnome-settings-daemon transition. gnome-settings-daemon
3.27 drops the a11ykeyboard plugin which mutter now provides. That transition
is pretty easy. We just need to patch all these packages to not have
A11yKeyboard in their RequiredComponents line:
+
+
https://codesearch.debian.net/search?q=org.gnome.SettingsDaemon.A11yKeyboard=1
+
+ budgie-desktop is part of the ongoing gnome-desktop3 transition. gnome-
+ shell will be part of the evolution-data-server transition.

2018-02-24 Thread bmaupin
Kristoffer, did you file your bug report yet? I think I'm experiencing
the exact same issue. After Grub, my system hangs with the 4.13.0-36
kernel. I just see a flashing cursor. 4.13.0-32 boots fine.

I'm using Ubuntu 16.04.3 on a Thinkpad T430u with an Intel i5-3317U.

[Bug 1750937] Re: 4.4.0-116 Kernel update on 2/21 breaks Nvidia drivers (on 14.04 and 16.04)

2018-02-24 Thread Jacek Wieczorek
I can use my Ubuntu 14.04.05 with kernel 4.4.0-112-generic normally, but
when it comes to booting with 4.4.0-116-generic Nvidia drivers don't
work. My gcc-4.8 version is "gcc (Ubuntu 4.8.5-2ubuntu1~14.04.1) 4.8.5"
and gcc-5 version is "gcc-5 (Ubuntu 5.4.1-2ubuntu1~14.04) 5.4.1
20160904".

I tried reinstalling -116 kernel, but it didn't work and so didn't work
rebuilding the drivers with "dkms remove"/"dkms install". I can't get
"retpoline" to appear in modinfo output for nvidia-390 for "kernel
4.4.0-116-generic", no matter on which kernel version and with which
version of gcc I try to recompile them.

[Bug 1751476] [NEW] Webkite doesn't render dropdown options.

2018-02-24 Thread Juan Sebastián Echeverry

[Bug 1750937] Re: 4.4.0-116 Kernel update on 2/21 breaks Nvidia drivers (on 14.04 and 16.04)

2018-02-24 Thread Clark Jefcoat
@matpen,

I had similar problems with gcc 5.4.1 on Ubuntu 16.04. I don't think
that version has been updated. My gcc 5.4.1 version was from the
ubuntu-toolchain-r/test ppa. I removed that repository and "downgraded"
to the official Ubuntu 16.04 gcc-5 (5.4.0-6ubuntu1~16.04.9). (See
https://askubuntu.com/questions/307/how-can-ppas-be-removed)

$ sudo apt-get install ppa-purge
$ sudo ppa-purge ppa:ubuntu-toolchain-r/test
$ gcc --version
gcc (Ubuntu 5.4.0-6ubuntu1~16.04.9) 5.4.0 20160609

Then after removing and reinstalling the 4.4.0-116 kernel, modprobe gave
me right answer.

$ sudo apt-get purge linux-headers-4.4.0-116 linux-
headers-4.4.0-116-generic linux-image-4.4.0-116-generic linux-image-
extra-4.4.0-116-generic linux-signed-image-4.4.0-116-generic

$ sudo apt-get install linux-generic linux-signed-generic

$ modinfo nvidia-387 -k 4.4.0-116-generic | grep vermagic
vermagic: 4.4.0-116-generic SMP mod_unload modversions retpoline

A reboot gave me a working system running the -116 kernel.

Architecture:
Arm64 (aarch64)

Distro (lsb_release):
Ubuntu xenial 16.04.4 LTS

Desktop Environment:
Xfce 4.12 and Mate 1.20

Hardware:
Samsung Chromebook plus with crouton (a Ubuntu Xenial chroot) installed.

What I did:
I want to download files in Firefox. Just open any website, click "Download"
link.

Actual results:
I can not see my downloading items on browser panel, it just says "No downloads
for this session". What's more, if I click "Show all downloads", I can see my
downloading items whose status is "Failed". However, I can confirm it's
downloading background successfully, and the downloaded file appears on my
computer. I tried to remove my profile, say, the ".mozilla" folder, and
downloaded again, but nothing improved.

Expected results:
It should download successfully. I just downgrade my Firefox to 57.x,
everything is fine, and this downloading issue is gone.

[Bug 1750366] Re: Strange versioning in 18.04 Bionic Beaver

2018-02-24 Thread Glyn M Burton
Hello Christian,

May I first apologise if this was not the appropriate place to post. I
was coming from an Ubuntu Server and Ubuntu package point of view.

Indeed it is confusing that a package advertising v7.4 is actually an
older v6.6 release. The bug, therefore, is surely the fact the apt-
system perceived the in-built v7.0 virtual drivers (from XenServer's own
virtual .ISO, much like how VMware does it) as being out of date and
elected to install v7.4. The logic in that is sound. However, it
ultimately installed v6.6 which is the issue.

I cannot comment on Stefan's thoughts as I am not a Debian guy. With
VirtualBox drivers being included as standard now and VMware's available
for installation, would it be unfair to remove Xen's package?

As ever, I revert to your more experienced judgement on the matter.

Best regards,

Modiford.

[Bug 1751488] [NEW] Night light does not work in some cases

2018-02-24 Thread Hrishikesh Barua
Public bug reported:

The night light feature does not work in these cases
 * Computer's screen shuts off due to timeout, and then is reactivated.
 * Computer is brought back from suspend
 * Computer desktop is locked, and unlocked using the password

In all these cases, the night light icon is present in the notification
area, and it says "Night Light On". But the screen temperature is that
of normal daylight.

In all these cases, disabling and re-enabling the night light using the
notification area icon reactivates the night light.

compile modules. Which is a pain if you still want to use a newer gcc
alongside for other purposes, because adding the ppa upgrades the default
gcc.

I still managed to install gcc-7 from the toolchains ppa while maintaining
the official gcc-5, but I had to pin the ppa with priority <100 (with a
file in /etc/apt/preferences.d/) to prevent automatic upgrades when doing
apt upgrade. I then selected a solution with no removals an minimum
upgrading of existing packages in aptitude.

[Bug 1751488] Re: Night light does not work in some cases

2018-02-24 Thread Hrishikesh Barua
apport information

** Tags added: apport-collected

** Description changed:

The night light feature does not work in these cases
   * Computer's screen shuts off due to timeout, and then is reactivated.
   * Computer is brought back from suspend
   * Computer desktop is locked, and unlocked using the password

In all these cases, the night light icon is present in the notification
area, and it says "Night Light On". But the screen temperature is that
  of normal daylight.

In all these cases, disabling and re-enabling the night light using the
notification area icon reactivates the night light.

I need to launch it manually from main menu.

There is a checkbox in dropbox settings 'Start Dropbox when system starts',
but it doesn't works too.
I've checked this checkbox several times, but on next boot it is checked off
again.

  I use Ubuntu Mate 16.04, 64-bit version.

[Bug 1751492] [NEW] VAAPI encoding is broken in Skylake

2018-02-24 Thread Leonardo Müller
Public bug reported:

When trying to do any type of encoding using any of the VAAPI encoders
from FFmpeg, the system hangs entirely for some time. On dmesg, the
following appears:

[ 107.557643] [drm] GPU HANG: ecode 9:0:0x8fd8, in ffmpeg [2047], reason:
Hang on rcs0, action: reset
[ 107.557651] [drm] GPU hangs can indicate a bug anywhere in the entire gfx
stack, including userspace.
[ 107.557654] [drm] Please file a _new_ bug report on bugs.freedesktop.org
against DRI -> DRM/Intel
[ 107.557657] [drm] drm/i915 developers can then reassign to the right
component if it's not a kernel issue.
[ 107.557660] [drm] The gpu crash dump is required to analyze gpu hangs, so
please always attach it.
[ 107.557665] [drm] GPU crash dump saved to /sys/class/drm/card0/error
[ 107.557684] i915 :00:02.0: Resetting rcs0 after gpu hang
[ 115.615609] i915 :00:02.0: Resetting rcs0 after gpu hang
[ 123.514807] i915 :00:02.0: Resetting rcs0 after gpu hang
[ 131.511092] i915 :00:02.0: Resetting rcs0 after gpu hang
[ 137.492729] i915 :00:02.0: Resetting vcs0 after gpu hang

Then the system returns. It shows an enormous RAM usage (more than 6 GB)
for a few seconds and then reduces to lower values, but still high.
Using h264_vaapi as a example: it uses 580 MB, while when VAAPI was not
broken, it used 20 MB for the same task. The resulting media file from
FFmpeg has no video output, only audio.

This is happening with all VAAPI encoders but vp8_vaapi, which it says
the is no entry point (although Skylake has support for VP8 encoding
working in Artful).

[Bug 1507190] Re: Disconnect Smartcard reader from USB causes pscd to crash

2018-02-24 Thread Anti Mailer
I can also confirm that this still happens on Ubuntu 16.04
There were newer releases of the package libifd-cyberjack6 on the
manufacturer's homepage. I have tested the last one by downloading and
installing
http://support.reiner-sct.de/downloads/LINUX/V3.99.5_SP11/libifd-cyberjack6_3.99.5final.sp11_amd64_u1604.deb
 and the problem was gone.
Reading the changelog I think that with release SP09 the problem was solved
yet. The source package for version SP09 is also in Debian Strech(stable) Repo:
https://packages.debian.org/source/stable/pcsc-cyberjack.
Please, could you upstream release SP11 or at least SP09 to the Ubuntu Repo?
Thanks in advance.

Additional information for fixing the "USB unplug problem" with release SP09
you can see in manufacturers forum (unfortunately in german):

One user has announced the trigger for the problem was an missing "libusb_exit".

[Bug 1751005] Re: libreoffice cannot open a document not within $HOME

2018-02-24 Thread Sam Van den Eynde
If AppArmor configuration is needed for mounted directories, I think we
need better information pushed to the users. If you say "add all your
mountpoints with user files need to be in file X" I am fine with that. I
just need to know.

Goes for snaps as well.

And I still think AppArmor provides fake security here. Files I own
should be accessible. Now people will just start putting the files in
another location to work around it. But that's just an opinion of
course.

[Bug 1749779] Re: System freeze when going back and forth fullscreen mode with Firefox

2018-02-24 Thread Hadrien
I applied the procedure described there:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-
shell/+bug/1751101/comments/7

I start Ubuntu 17.10
I start Firefox 58.0.2
I press F11 for more than 2 seconds
I wait for 35 minutes
I press on AltGr+PrintScreen+S just to be sure data is written on disk
I wait for several seconds
I reboot with AltGr+PrintScreen+B

There is nothing in /var/crash/

I feel a bit frustrated after all that time spent trying to obtain the
data you need.

Daniel, you told it wasn't a good idea to ask you to reproduce the
problem, but I still think this would be a good solution to get valuable
data on your side. I understand this may expose a different bug, but
with some chance, that other bug will be related to this one. At worst
you could open another ticket with the data you collected and link the
two tickets.

Maybe you don't have time, or won't be able to reproduce the problem, so
I can also wait for Ubuntu 18.04 and try to reproduce it again. You told
me there are many gnome-shell crashes at the moment, so maybe one of the
fix that will ship with 18.04 will help with this bug.

Public bug reported:

Efter the black ink was finnished the HP scanner Deskjet 2540 stopped.
Now with new black ink it refuses to start again.

Description:Ubuntu 17.10
Release:17.10

It's a 'missing' driver, but it was not missing before the ink stopped.

I think to buy an all-in-one from another brand! (It's not the first
problem I have with HP.)

Question: Can you advise me: is Brother a good brand to Linux? Or do you
know a better?

Thanks Jos

[Bug 1745651] Re: Ubuntu suspends after login

2018-02-24 Thread Floyd Taylor
Sorry for delay in responding. I was traveling away from system with
problem.

Bug did not occur in 4.13.0-31 generic

Bug appeared after update to 4.13.0-32 generic

Bug appears to be fixed in 4.13.0-36 generic which installed along with
other updates when I returned from travel.

I am relatively new to Linux & Ubuntu. The system exhibiting the problem
is one I rely on for everyday work. I chose to install the "LTS" version
under the assumption that it was the more stable, better tested version.
I am not at all familiar with the methods of installing and trying
different releases and do not want to risk the system I rely on. I did
discover that the "Advanced" startup options for Ubuntu allow me to run
every previous version since the initial install. That allowed me to
provide the information above. I hope the information provided is
adequate. I will post again if the bug reappears after any future update
to the LTS version.

Thanks for your assistance.

[Bug 1751432] [NEW] Change wall.xml to use nodelay=false

2018-02-24 Thread Johann Glaser
Public bug reported:

Strangely, the "wall" plugin offers an edge trigger delay. It can be
adjusted with CCSM.

However, this feature is secretly disabled in /usr/share/compiz/wall.xml
by four instances of true.

Please revise this frustrating decision and set
false.

+
+ ---
+
+ Original description below:
+
When I boot my PC dropbox doesn't starts automatically.
I need to launch it manually from main menu.

There is a checkbox in dropbox settings 'Start Dropbox when system starts',
but it doesn't works too.
I've checked this checkbox several times, but on next boot it is checked off
again.

[Bug 1511524] Re: OpenVPN PAM authentication broken on 15.10 Server

2018-02-24 Thread Björn Michael
Hi, I do see see the exact same problem on Ubuntu 17.10 with OpenVPN 2.4.3
Should I create a separate ticket for that?
