[Bug 1551351] Re: dhclient does not renew leases

2018-03-04 Thread Petr Suchý
This is happening only if "Ethernet Lan Option Rom" is checked (active)
in BIOS (ThinkPad X230). So there is the reason. After disabled this
option IP is not lost after first renew.

[Bug 1752053] Re: nvidia-390 fails to boot graphical display

2018-03-04 Thread Chris McDonough
Burt P wrt https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/nvidia-graphics-
drivers-390/+bug/1752053/comments/43, you might try this:

edit /etc/default/grub, editing:

  GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="quiet splash"

to:

  GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT=""

And adding:

  GRUB_GFXMODE=1920x1080-32,auto
  GRUB_GFXPAYLOAD_LINUX=keep

(you will almost certainly need to change the GRUB_GFXMODE value if your
main display is not native 1920x1080)

Then rerun  sudo grub-mkconfig -o /boot/grub/grub.cfg.

I had the same symptom you did a while back, because for unknown reasons
the hardware would get into a snit if the grub graphics mode didn't
match the native mode. You may not need to comment out the splash and
quiet, but I needed to in order to be able to successfully enter a
decryption passphrase.

[Bug 1753371] [NEW] Ubuntu 18.04 - Kernel crash on nvme subsystem-reset /dev/nvme0 (Bolt / NVMe)

Public bug reported:

== Comment: #6 - Wen Xiong  - 2018-02-27 10:41:23 ==
hi Naveed,

nvme subsystem-reset calls EEH recovery path. Is EEH recovery working
with Bolt on this machine?

Thanks,
Wendy

== Comment: #11 - Wen Xiong  - 2018-03-02 16:03:46 ==
The following patch should fix the issue.

http://lists.infradead.org/pipermail/linux-
nvme/2018-February/015745.html

It should be accepted into community soon. Keith has agreed to queue up
for 4.16.

[Bug 1753217] Re: package fwupdate 10-3 failed to install/upgrade: installed fwupdate package post-installation script subprocess returned error exit status 1

2018-03-04 Thread Mario Limonciello
According to your error message you ran out of space on your EFI system
partition.

Can you check what is using up the space there? You should be able to recover
with something like this:
# sudo apt -f install

once you free up enough space.

[Bug 1245666] Re: Pidgin is creating zombies

2018-03-04 Thread dx
Hi, pidgin dev here, got a report from an ubuntu artful user that it
generated a bunch of zombie processes.

I noticed a patch named "hg-remove-SIGCHLD-handler.patch" that only
exists in ubuntu and not in debian, and seems to be a backport of
https://bitbucket.org/pidgin/main/commits/161320946afdd6bc331026fa774e1f7bc680f12c

It's from the "default" branch (unreleased 3.x) instead of
release-2.x.y, and certainly not intended for release-2.x.y.

Quoting the commit, it seems to rely on the assumption that "DNS
processes are already reaped in libpurple". This was true for the
default branch around 2012 (I asked the author, apparently some queue
stuff was introduced a few commits earlier) and is sort-of-true for the
default branch now that it uses GResolver which is thread-based instead
of fork-based.

It's not a safe assumption for release-2.x.y in its current state, it
needs child process reaping.

I recommend removing this patch.

[Bug 1743094] Re: [regression] hibernation (freezes on resume) since 4.13.0-25.29

2018-03-04 Thread AzureRaptor
I see the exact same boot log as Marc Dziadek above, and I can't find
this recorded anywhere on next boot either.

It has been asked before here: "Is it possible to test 4.15 from
bionic-proposed on xenial?" Can anyone offer input on this? I know how
to add xenial's proposed repository; is it safe to just substitute
"bionic" in that line in sources.list? What else, if anything, might
need to be done to get this kernel working?

[Bug 1746340] Re: Samsung SSD corruption (fsck needed)

2018-03-04 Thread Kai-Heng Feng
Generally I boot up a live system and run fsck on they block device. A
quick google shows there are several ways to achieve the same thing.

[Bug 402892] Re: Mouse cursor gets stuck in "drag and drop" mode

2018-03-04 Thread Steven Regester
New information:

I've been using my ubuntu installation for several days since I posted
my last comment, and had not encountered the bug until I used the `Super
+ FN + Up Arrow`/`Super + FN + Down Arrow` to change workspaces. As soon
as I did that, the bug returned. Will attempt to re-create and report
back again.

[Bug 402892] Re: Mouse cursor gets stuck in "drag and drop" mode

2018-03-04 Thread Steven Regester
Update from previous comment:

I was able to get the gnome environment into this erroneous state by
using the aforementioned `Super + FN + UP/DN` shortcut to move back and
forth between my workspaces. At this point I think it's reasonable to
call this bug reproducible.

[Bug 1746340] Re: Samsung SSD corruption (fsck needed)

2018-03-04 Thread Lucas Zanella
The next time it happen I will post the full dmesg. But even my first
message (#1):

Jan 29 01:07:39 lz kernel: [62984.375393] EXT4-fs error (device
nvme0n1p2): ext4_find_entry:1442: inode #26607929: comm updatedb.mlocat:
checksumming directory block 0

cites EXT-4 errors. It's always been like that, nothing changed.

I need to fsck the rootfs now or when the error happens again? And how
should I do it?

[Bug 1752468] Re: Steam no longer works after update to nvidia-390

This appears to be fixed in the deps of the current repo iteration of
the nvidia-driver-390 package (390.25-0ubuntu4); or at least Steam works
after a purge and reinstall that package.

[Bug 1753353] [NEW] Compatibility bug of open-iscsi package

2018-03-04 Thread Edward Xiao
Public bug reported:

1. these commands worked well with open-iscsi on ubuntu-trusty:

/:/etc/init# /etc/init.d/open-iscsi restart
/:/etc/init# iscsiadm -m discovery -t sendtargets -p {portal_ip}

2. But when I failed to re-run these commands on ubuntu-xenial:

/:/etc/init# iscsiadm -m discovery -t sendtargets -p {portal_ip}
iscsiadm: Login failed to authenticate with target
iscsiadm: discovery login to {portal_ip} rejected: initiator failed
authorization

iscsiadm: Could not perform SendTargets discovery: iSCSI login failed due to
authorization failure
/:/etc/init# /etc/init.d/open-iscsi restart
[ ok ] Restarting open-iscsi (via systemctl): open-iscsi.service.
/:/etc/init# iscsiadm -m discovery -t sendtargets -p {portal_ip}
iscsiadm: Login failed to authenticate with target
iscsiadm: discovery login to {portal_ip} rejected: initiator failed
authorization

iscsiadm: Could not perform SendTargets discovery: iSCSI login failed due to
authorization failure
/:/etc/init# iscsiadm -m discovery -t sendtargets -p {portal_ip}
iscsiadm: Login failed to authenticate with target
iscsiadm: discovery login to {portal_ip} rejected: initiator failed
authorization

iscsiadm: Could not perform SendTargets discovery: iSCSI login failed
due to authorization failure

3. So I try to use "service" to restart "iscsid" on xenial and it was
worked.

/:/etc/init# service iscsid restart
/:/etc/init# iscsiadm -m discovery -t sendtargets -p {portal_ip}
{portal_ip}:3260,1041 iqn.1992-08.com.netapp:stflon0201
{portal_ip}:3260,1042 iqn.1992-08.com.netapp:stflon0201

Conclusion:
And open-iscsi is installed by "apt-get" and I knew these was twoo packages on
different distrs. And trusty didn't have "iscsid" service. Did I miss anything?
What is a compatible way to setup iscsi disks?

I found these are two services: open-iscsi and iscsid

On trusty, open-iscsi is 'Starts and stops the iSCSI initiator services
and logs into default targets'. But open-iscsi is 'Login to default
iSCSI targets at boot and log out of all iSCSI targets at shutdown' on
xenial. However, iscsid is 'The iSCSI initiator daemon takes care of
monitoring iSCSI connections to targets. It is also the daemon providing
the interface for the iscisadm tool to talk to when administering iSCSI
connections.' on xenial.

Could we set same service name to maintain open-iscsi functionality?

uname -r

The above after rebooting to *-116.
System seems to be working; I will try to repair the failed installation soon.

There has been a constant issue where the installer tries to recover
long-uninstalled initram elements such as initrd.img-4.2.0-16-generic
(and later) filling /boot, etc. I have manually removed these files from
/boot to an "obsolete" folder to allow df -h to report enough space.

The system seems to be reading outdated info from an 'initram.conf' or
similar file and I believe this may be the fault, or part of it. I can
manually edit out references to earlier kernels when I find the file.

Do you have any suggestions?
