[Bug 1754047] [NEW] Fix spurious zeroing of r0

2018-03-07 Thread Frank Heimes
Private bug reported:

The kernel patch(es) of LP 1743560
'KVM patches for s390x to provide facility bits 81 (ppa15) and 82 (bpb)'
(accepted upstream)
introduced a problem due to spurious zeroing of r0.

The following fix is addressing this:
s390/entry.S: fix spurious zeroing of r0
https://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/s390/linux.git/commit/?h=fixes=d3f468963cd6fd6d2aa5e26aed8b24232096d0e1

If our X, A and B kernels are affected by the above issue (what is
probably the case if the upstream patches got used), then the fix/patch
(commit d3f468963cd6fd6d2aa5e26aed8b24232096d0e1) needs to be applied,
too.

Correct but now in 18.04 KMS can no longer be set in the combo of
Ubuntu's 4.15 kernel & nvidia drivers.
See here
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/nvidia-graphics-drivers-390/+bug/1752739

This prevents use of nvidia on wayland & per bug prevents prime sync in
an X11 sessions, both of which are going to be a bit of a disappointment
for many 18.04 users.

The slow leak will probably be tolerable for the time being, having
those two patches added to the kernel would surely be a pretty valuable
step that I think should be done now. My target still is Xenial with the

ahead.

[Bug 1753983] Re: Please decouple runtime dependencies for Fcitx QT5 frontend

2018-03-07 Thread Aron Xu
fcitx-frontend-qt5 is pulled into the system through this chain:
fcitx -> Recommends: fcitx-frontend-all -> Recommends: fcitx-frontend-qt5

Feel free to remove the package if you are sure it's not need and it
shouldn't bring you into dependency hell, while this implies you are an
advanced user since you are asking such kind of problem. We cannot
remove those runtime dependencies because they are actually needed by
the binary.

[Bug 1753708] Re: Ubuntu18.04:PowerPC - Set Transparent Huge Pages (THP) by default to "always"

2018-03-07 Thread Thadeu Lima de Souza Cascardo
We changed the default to madvise, as using it as always results in
performance regressions in our testing. See bug

Have you run any specific tests on Power Systems that would justify
changing the setting for ppc64el only?

Thanks.

[Bug 1745349] Re: Hard lockup during boot with linux-image-4.4.0-112-generic

I built the next test kernel, up to the following commit:

The test kernel can be downloaded from:

Can you test that kernel and report back if it has the bug or not? I
will build the next test kernel based on your test results.

[Bug 1753950] Re: Ubuntu18.04[P9, WSP]: While running ltp kernel_misc test hitting cpu warn_on on unregister_blkdev+0xac/0x300

2018-03-07 Thread Joseph Salisbury
Did this issue start happening after an update/upgrade? Was there a
prior kernel version where you were not having this particular problem?

Would it be possible for you to test the latest upstream kernel? Refer
to https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds . Please test the latest
v4.16 kernel[0].

If this bug is fixed in the mainline kernel, please add the following
tag 'kernel-fixed-upstream'.

If the mainline kernel does not fix this bug, please add the tag:
'kernel-bug-exists-upstream'.

Once testing of the upstream kernel is complete, please mark this bug as
"Confirmed".

Thanks in advance.

[Bug 1753994] [NEW] mailutils reintrodued Debian Bug#391031, postgresql support is missing again

2018-03-07 Thread Michael Neuffer
Public bug reported:

mailutils reintrodued Debian Bug#391031, postgresql support is missing
again

mailutils supports Postgresql, ODBC and Mysql, but again only depends on
mysql (libmysqlclient20 (>= 5.7.11))

It should be compiled against and suggests/recommend all three DB interfaces.
Hard dependencys needlessly enforces the installation of database systems that
are most likely not used, pollutes installations and increases the attack
surface.

Try upping your ulimit on num files from 1024 to 8192 or higher.

To do this for duplicity, run like so:
$ ulimit -n 8192
$ duplicity ...

[Bug 1753705] Re: stress-ng will make an Ubuntu on LPAR s390x Bionic system become very slow

2018-03-07 Thread Colin Ian King
This occurs because fork/vfork/clone system calls numbers are aliased on
this system, so these slipped through the detection of these and we get
fork bombing. I've added forking limitation rlimits and CPU limiting as
well as more intelligent fork/vfork/clone system call detection before
system call time and also detection of child generations post-system
call to avoid these fork bomb conditions.

Two fixes were required and have been pushed to the repo:

http://kernel.ubuntu.com/git/cking/stress-ng.git/commit/?id=94d7b0a34e5208cc9b0d5287c6e2f5349694f176
http://kernel.ubuntu.com/git/cking/stress-ng.git/commit/?id=d01abd84f03f65e5303746eee7b318675c04827c

I've tested these and they seem to address this issue. Do you mind
testing this and then we can close this bug.

[Bug 1707717] Re: [MIR] gnome-weather

2018-03-07 Thread Jeremy Bicha
** Description changed:

  Availability

Co-maintained and in sync with Debian GNOME.
  Built for all supported architectures.

  Rationale
  =
It is a simple standalone app to show the weather.

If installed, it adds the weather status to the clock menu in GNOME
Shell. (This was introduced in GNOME 3.24 and is available in Ubuntu
  17.04+.)

The app optionally uses GNOME's geolocation services powered by geoclue.
This can be enabled or disabled from GNOME Settings>Privacy>Location
Services. GNOME shows an indicator in the right of the top bar when
  Location Services is in use.

GNOME Weather has been part of core GNOME since GNOME 3.20 (early 2016).

  Security

  No known security issues

  https://security-tracker.debian.org/tracker/source-package/gnome-weather
  https://launchpad.net/gnome-weather/+cve

Uses gjs/mozjs which the Ubuntu Security Team reluctantly accepted into main
for gnome-shell
  https://wiki.ubuntu.com/SecurityTeam/FAQ#mozjs

  Quality assurance
  =
  - The Ubuntu Desktop bugs team will need to subscribe to this package

  https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-weather
  https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/pkgreport.cgi?src=gnome-weather
  https://bugzilla.gnome.org/buglist.cgi?quicksearch=product%3A"gnome-weather;

  No upstream tests or autopkgtests.

  Dependencies

  No universe binary dependencies

  Standards compliance

- 4.1.1
+ 4.1.2
+ debhelper compat 11, minimal dh7 style rules

  Maintenance
  ===
  - Actively developed upstream. Last release was 3.26.0 in September.
  https://git.gnome.org/browse/gnome-weather/log

- Debian packaging uses svn, but we're hoping to convert to git this year
(which will allow for Ubuntu branches):
+ https://salsa.debian.org/gnome-team/gnome-weather

  Background information
  ==
The app is minimally feature complete.

The weather data itself comes via libgweather which is written in C and
uses libsoup and has been in main for years. I believe the default
  provider is METAR.

  See libgweather/weather-metar.c and libgweather/gweather-weather.c
  https://www.aviationweather.gov/metar
  https://www.weather.gov/disclaimer

[Bug 1724639] Re: Bug in Kernel 4.13 : Intel Mobile Graphics 945 shows 80 % black screen

2018-03-07 Thread Christian Staude
I had the same issue on an Acer Aspire One with a fresh Lubuntu 17.10.1
install. Trying to prevent the system from continuously going to sleep I set
"HandleSuspendKey" and "HandleLidSwitch" to ignore in /etc/systemd/login.conf.
After that the screen problem appeared.
When I commented out the HandleSuspendKey again, everything worked fine!

Hope that helps

[Bug 1589780] Re: chrony.service doesn't start on LXD container

2018-03-07 Thread ChristianEhrhardt
Note: I now also implemented it trying to follow the usual chrony
generic/OSType split as I hope this will make it more acceptable.
WIP Test PKG is available in PPA:
https://launchpad.net/~ci-train-ppa-service/+archive/ubuntu/3188

Tests:
1. starts in container if -x is set in /etc/defaults/chrony - yes
2. implies -x if not able to control clock - yes
3. in an environment where it can control the time it does so (without
fallback)- yes
4. -x in an environment where it can control the time works - TBD

In Ubuntu 16.04.3 and 17.10.1 holding down either shift key on a Dell
Latitude 7480 causes random mouse clicks to occur without being nowhere
near the touchpad with palms. No external mouse/keyboard connected.
Disabling `Tap to click` in `Mouse & Touchpad` settings makes the
problem go away. The problem is not present in 14.04.5, whether
installed or live CD.

How to reproduce:

1. On a Dell Latitude 7480 live boot (or install) one of the following images:
- ubuntu-16.04.3-desktop-amd64.iso
- ubuntu-17.10.1-desktop-amd64.iso

2. Open `Mouse & Touchpad` and make sure `Tap to click` is enabled.
3. Click `Test Your Settings` and make sure window has focus.
4. Hold down either shift key and after a few seconds single/double clicks
start registering.

[Bug 1754056] [NEW] assign shutdown command to sleep button fails 17.10 and 18.04

2018-03-07 Thread Sebastian
Public bug reported:

Hi,
I'm running a GigaByte Brix with a wireless Logitech K400 Keyboard. The said
keyboard features a "power off" button that is interpreted by Ubuntu as "Sleep"
for some reason. On the 17.04 release it was possible to simply assign the
shutdown command to this button and everything was fine.
With 17.10 and 18.04 LTS (beta) the behaviour of this button can not be
changed. If I try to assign my shutdown command and press the button, my system
immediately enters suspend mode. Even if I try to simply read out the key code
of the button it will directly go to suspend.
Will there be a way of getting back the behaviour of 17.04 so that I can freely
choose what this button does?

Thanks!

I've reproduced the CRB1S panic with the current (non-kpti) kernel and
without crypt lvm (standard MAAS install) and reported bug 1754053 to
track it. We can rule that out as being caused by kpti.

[Bug 1754019] Re: [FFE] netplan 0.34: new features

2018-03-07 Thread Mathieu Trudel-Lapierre
** Description changed:

  netplan 0.34 introduces new features:

- - optional: true on an interface to allow it to be "ignored" by
networkd-wait-online at boot, and avoid 5 minute delays.
- - added 'help' subcommands everywhere.
- - added bash completion
- - 'netplan ip leases' now allows retrieving the lease file for the "private"
DHCP settings contained in a lease for the backend in use. The lease file is
displayed in full and allows retrieving settings not normally exposed by the
backends.
- - implement better routing support: policy-based routing is now supported
for the networkd backend, and better control over the "standard" routes to be
installed. A new 'on-link: true' option allows for defining a route that is
directly attached.
+  - optional: true on an interface to allow it to be "ignored" by
networkd-wait-online at boot, and avoid 5 minute delays.
+  - added 'help' subcommands everywhere.
+  - added bash completion
+  - 'netplan ip leases' now allows retrieving the lease file for the "private"
DHCP settings contained in a lease for the backend in use. The lease file is
displayed in full and allows retrieving settings not normally exposed by the
backends.
+  - implement better routing support: policy-based routing is now supported
for the networkd backend, and better control over the "standard" routes to be
installed. A new 'on-link: true' option allows for defining a route that is
directly attached.
+
+ These stem from various requests we've had concerning the usability of
+ netplan for various projects; for instance:
+
+ - 'optional: true' is useful for the ubuntu-server daily image to
+ avoid blocking in networkd while the network interface are coming up
+ (which would block for 5 minutes waiting for timeout if no interface is
+ connected).
+
+ - policy routing, on-link: true and general routing improvements are
+ common user requests from people migrating early to bionic.
+
+ - help and bash completion are common requested features, and generally
+ greatly improve usability.
+
+ This new release also has many long-term maintenance code cleanliness
+ changes and fixes the following bugs:
+
+ * Reinstate snap support for dealing with the NetworkManager snap.
+(LP: #1747714)
+ * Don't silently break bridge-priority; fix it instead. (LP: #1752162)
+ * Disable "ifupdown-migrate"; which is incomplete and thus risks breaking
systems. Better iterate over it without showing it as a viable option.

[Bug 1754069] [NEW] bug 1164016 has regressed

2018-03-07 Thread teo1978
Public bug reported:

I'm opening this because I can't change back the status of issue 1164016
back from "fix released" (which is so stupid by the way: IF I can change
the status from any other status, why shouldn't I be able to change it
from "fix released"? Nonsense)

https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/nautilus/+bug/1164016

Many users have reported the bug is back on 17.10.
I can't think of any reason why it should take more than a few minutes to fix
it back for 17.10, other than maybe nobody among the people who were
responsible for the fix have noticed yet.

Feel free to mark this as duplicate *after* you reopen #1164016

[Bug 1754072] [NEW] Very poor xserver-xorg-video-nouveau live bionic beta-1 session

2018-03-07 Thread Richard Elkins
Public bug reported:

QA suspend test:
* Needed 10 minutes to get to unlock prompt.
* After unlocking, 2 minutes passed before desktop was visible.

I use the nouveau driver under 16.04 on the same machine and suspend-

native build, not a live session.

Hardware:
