Sorry, wrong version, it is 16.04.4, but the curious thing is that this
happens only on one (the latest installed one a month ago, the other 7
have months online) of 8 16.04 servers, the other 7 don't send these
notifications. What could be different between servers ?

This is not a new problem, and it affects every gdm3-based distro that I have
used. Long story short; if you want to use modeset=1 with nvidia to get rid of
tearing (which would be every linux Optimus user on the planet), gdm3 doesn't
work. No one seems to know why.

Actual result:
Front panel audio doe
belately thought of trying: running sudo update-initramfs -k all -c
produced no errors for both currently installed kernels:
