[Bug 1767091] Re: package shim-signed 1.34.9+13-0ubuntu2 failed to install/upgrade: installed shim-signed package post-installation script subprocess returned error exit status 30
** Description changed: [Impact] - Any user of Secure Boot with DKMS modules having the GNOME debconf frontend enabled or other debconf frontends that are not Dialog or readline. + Users of SecureBoot with DKMS modules can trigger a maintainer script crash by using the buttons presented in the debconf UI, leaving the package in an unconfigured state. [Test case] 1) Delete /var/lib/shim-signed/mok/MOK.* if exists. 2) Run 'sudo update-secureboot-policy --new-key' 3) Run 'sudo update-secureboot-policy --enroll-key' 4) When prompted to "enable Secure Boot", hit the Back button. With no patch applied, the dialog will fall into an invalid state and error out, with the characteristic "return code 30" error as seen in the bug report. With the patch applied, no Back button will be present -- the user should not be allowed to back up out of the enrolment dialog except by making the conscious decision to enable SecureBoot / enroll a MOK or continue with no changes, as are the two options presented. [Regression Potential] Issues to watch out for are any related to password handling (failure to get the password and continue out of the debconf prompts without error), failure to enroll keys, or being unable to use dkms modules after reboot and successful enrolment of the key. Any erroring out of the debconf prompts at install should be investigated as possible regressions from this SRU. --- during partial update from 17.10 to 18.04 ProblemType: Package DistroRelease: Ubuntu 18.04 Package: shim-signed 1.34.9+13-0ubuntu2 ProcVersionSignature: Ubuntu 4.13.0-38.43-generic 4.13.16 Uname: Linux 4.13.0-38-generic x86_64 .proc.sys.kernel.moksbstate_disabled: Error: [Errno 2] Aucun fichier ou dossier de ce type: '/proc/sys/kernel/moksbstate_disabled' ApportVersion: 2.20.9-0ubuntu7 Architecture: amd64 Date: Thu Apr 26 11:31:05 2018 DistributionChannelDescriptor: # This is a distribution channel descriptor # For more information see http://wiki.ubuntu.com/DistributionChannelDescriptor canonical-oem-somerville-xenial-amd64-20160624-2 ErrorMessage: installed shim-signed package post-installation script subprocess returned error exit status 30 InstallationDate: Installed on 2018-03-26 (30 days ago) InstallationMedia: Ubuntu 16.04 "Xenial" - Build amd64 LIVE Binary 20160624-10:47 MokSBStateRT: 6 0 0 0 1 Python3Details: /usr/bin/python3.6, Python 3.6.5, python3-minimal, 3.6.5-3 PythonDetails: /usr/bin/python2.7, Python 2.7.15rc1, python-minimal, 2.7.15~rc1-1 RelatedPackageVersions: dpkg 1.19.0.5ubuntu2 apt 1.6.1 SecureBoot: 6 0 0 0 1 SourcePackage: shim-signed Title: package shim-signed 1.34.9+13-0ubuntu2 failed to install/upgrade: installed shim-signed package post-installation script subprocess returned error exit status 30 UpgradeStatus: No upgrade log present (probably fresh install) -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1767091 Title: package shim-signed 1.34.9+13-0ubuntu2 failed to install/upgrade: installed shim-signed package post-installation script subprocess returned error exit status 30 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/shim-signed/+bug/1767091/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 1776319] [NEW] Crashed during installation
Public bug reported: trying to install Lubuntu SD drive (/dev/mmcblk3p1). This is the 2nd time install failed. The internal solid state drive (/dev/mmcblk1) has 4 pre-installed partitions. The first partition is 100MB and labeled EFI System. The desktop version of Lubunto seems to work okay but I think that's because I added the file bootia32.efi into /EFI/BOOT. Before I added the efi file to that directory any attempt to boot lubuntu into desktop mode (try first) froze the system with no error message. If I first start in desktop mode I can get the install onto the SD card to finish but it still doesn't boot into lubuntu (grub resets the system over and over). I suspect this is because the efi file. I will try to do that myself but I'm learning EFI shells on the fly. If I'm right this issue is a result of the manufacturer intentionally running a 32 bit UEFI firmware to a 64 bit system to thwart linux installations. [Bug 1776383] [NEW] GRUB error unable to install boot loader
Public bug reported: There is a bug in GRUB where it will not write the boot loader to the disk. It simply says "Fatal Error" and then exits. Further attempts will result in the same error message. To fix this error, I can take the drive out and put it into a windows machine, switch it to Dynamic Disk, then format it. When I place it back into the original computer, GRUB will install without any problem. I hope that will provide a clue to someone more knowledgeable as to what the real problem is. To reproduce this problem. Get a computer with UEFI boot. In my case it was a Dell PowerEdge R410. Install OPNsense firewall on it: https://opnsense.org/ Next, install Ubuntu 18.04 and you will get the GRUB error. It's a fatal error and you cannot continue! ** Affects: grub-installer (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1776383 Title: GRUB error unable to install boot loader To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/grub-installer/+bug/1776383/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1774794] Re: btrfs-convert executable is not included in btrfs-progs
FWIW, it looks like btrfs-convert is being dropped upstream. I just compiled mine from source, and it crashed after some heavy churning. The package description should be changed though (it explicitly mentions btrfs-convert). Here's a relevant thread: https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=854489 referring to the note in https://btrfs.wiki.kernel.org/index.php/Conversion_from_Ext3: “Warning: As of 4.0 kernels this feature is not often used or well tested anymore, and there have been some reports that the conversion doesn't work reliably. Feel free to try it out, but make sure you have backups.” My backtrace was different, but also related to btrfs_reserve_extent(). I also attempted ext4 -> btrfs. I'll post the BT but it's hardly helpful: # btrfs-convert /dev/sdc1 create btrfs filesystem: blocksize: 4096 nodesize: 16384 features: extref, skinny-metadata (default) creating ext2 image file Unable to find block group for 0 Unable to find block group for 0 Unable to find block group for 0 extent-tree.c:2764: alloc_tree_block: BUG_ON `ret` triggered, value -28 btrfs-convert(+0x1c4f6)[0x558cfb6c54f6] btrfs-convert(btrfs_alloc_free_block+0x1ff)[0x558cfb6cabaf] btrfs-convert(+0x14d63)[0x558cfb6bdd63] btrfs-convert(btrfs_search_slot+0x2af)[0x558cfb6bec8f] btrfs-convert(btrfs_csum_file_block+0x48f)[0x558cfb6d0c1f] btrfs-convert(+0xd944)[0x558cfb6b6944] btrfs-convert(main+0x19d1)[0x558cfb6b5df1] /lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libc.so.6(__libc_start_main+0xe7)[0x7f75d48fcb97] btrfs-convert(_start+0x2a)[0x558cfb6b64da] Aborted ** Bug watch added: Debian Bug tracker #854489 https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=854489 -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1774794 Title: btrfs-convert executable is not included in btrfs-progs To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/btrfs-progs/+bug/1774794/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 1690085]
> I find myself willing to believe the AMD "indirectly" statement: this is > related to power supply. My power supply is an EVGA 650GQ, with eco switch > set on to reduce fan noise. I suspect that if I swapped it for some other Some want to believe and that's fine but AMD story is and always was bullshit and here's why: My EVGA SuperNOVA 750 G3 & Corsair RM650i are modern and C6/"haswell" compliant PSUs. There's plenty of other people with a variety of new and old and cheap and expensive PSUs who are affected by this TOTAL SCANDAL bug. The new Power Supply option in BIOS set to Typical does fix it all combinations of Ryzen motherboards/CPUs/PSUs I've tried. The root cause could be a combination of motherboard/CPU/PSU but my guess is that it's got more to do with motherboard voltage regulators and less to do with PSUs. Buying a new PSU isn't a viable option anyway, what are you going do to? buy every single PSU on the market and hope you stumble upon one that works with the "low current" power supply option in BIOS after trying 20 that don't? If you sell a computer monitor that does not work properly on 19 out of 20 graphics cards then it's not the graphics cards that are to blame, you're selling a defective product. The Typical Idle setting is a fine solution if you know about it, so there's that. Works for me. I do feel sorry for poor noobs who don't know and pull their hairs for hours before discovering the shocking truth, though. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1690085 Title: Ryzen 1800X freeze - rcu_sched detected stalls on CPUs/tasks To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/linux/+bug/1690085/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1776325] [NEW] Error messages during boot - Ubuntu 18.04 & Mint19
Public bug reported: This came about as I had problems with efi while installing a dual boot of ubuntu and linux mint. As I understand it, during the boot process, the kernel sees a cpu count for the processor chip , AMD Ryzen 2400G, as 8 but 4 of them are graphics compute units. A little later in the process, the graphics processors cause errors. Subsequent to discovering this , I have added a line to grub GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_ which appears to have improved the boot process. It is 'ruc_nocbs=0-3'. The alteration in grub seems to help limit the cpu count and gets the boot process over the bump. I searched the interweb for clues and this seems to be a successful experiment. I am reporting this because I could not find any pertinent reference to this sort of problem with this particular chip. This search was not exhaustive so I hope I am not wasting your time :) I am attaching a file of concatenated system info for kernel reports as the options on this page only appear to allow one file to be selected (https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+filebug/4aca6a90-6dc0-11e8 -b34a-002481e7f48a. Most of this was my lack of understanding the efi requirements, but the lack of useful information in the Gigabyte motherboard manual about how the UEFI operation was managed by its operating system prolonged my agony.:) I hope this helps, thank you and keep up the fantastic work Bob. [Bug 1753662] Re: [i40e] LACP bonding start up race conditions
Jeff, Please do provide your logs and whatever other information you can share from your error case, any piece of info will help here. I do not yet have a repro environment myself. I suspect that most of the changes which seem to help or fix the issue are simply changing the timing enough to affect the race window, making it less likely to occur, so are masking the problem rather than fixing the root cause. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1753662 Title: [i40e] LACP bonding start up race conditions To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1753662/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1757218] Re: QCA9377 isn't being recognized sometimes
This kernel version works, but I don't understand why testing a 4.17 version would be relevant on this case, as the first kernel fixed is 4.16-rc5 and, according to the checkout we've done before, the first good commit should be: commit 1fdb926974695d3dbc05a429bafa266fdd16510e Author: Hans de Goede Date: Tue Feb 20 09:06:18 2018 +0100 Bluetooth: btusb: Use DMI matching for QCA reset_resume quirking However, this commit alone have not solved the issue. [Bug 1756455] Re: Kernel 4.15.0-12 reboots instead of turning off on HP Spectre x360 13-ae004 on battery
Dmitry Malykhanov, the next step is to fully commit bisect from Ubuntu kernel 4.15.0-10.11 to Ubuntu kernel 4.15.0-12.13, in order to identify the last good kernel commit, followed immediately by the first bad one. This will allow for a more expedited analysis of the root cause of your issue. Could you please do this following https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Kernel/KernelBisection ? This article was written for folks who don't know anything about linux, so it's easy to follow. Please note, finding adjacent kernel versions, or providing a commit without testing it and reverting it is not fully commit bisecting. Also, the kernel release names are irrelevant for the purposes of bisecting. It is most helpful that after the bad commit (not kernel version) has been confirmed via testing, you then mark this report Status Confirmed. Thank you for your help. ** No longer affects: linux-signed (Ubuntu) ** Tags added: kernel-bug-exists-upstream-4.17-rc1 latest-bios-f.15 needs-bisect regression-release ** Changed in: linux (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided => Medium ** Changed in: linux (Ubuntu) Status: Confirmed => Incomplete ** Summary changed: - Kernel 4.15.0-12 reboots instead of turning off on HP Spectre x360 13-ae004 on battery + [HP Spectre x360 - 13-ae004na] On battery kernel 4.15.0-12 reboots instead of turning off -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1756455 Title: [HP Spectre x360 - 13-ae004na] On battery kernel 4.15.0-12 reboots instead of turning off To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1756455/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

The idea here is to control the Xinerama geometry exported to clients when doing both multiple monitors per card and multiple cards. But the right solution to that is to split the geometry reported through the Xinerama protocol from the Xinerama dispatch multiplexer, and allow driver subsystems the ability to report their own geometry. Stuffing the desired geometry in xorg.conf is certainly a solution, but it's not something I want to ship lest people start relying on it. Taking this off the 7.4 blocker. [Bug 1774950] Re: Suspend fails in Ubuntu and Kubuntu 18.04 but works fine in Ubuntu and Kubuntu 17.10 (and on Kubuntu 18.04 using kernel 4.14.47)
@ferconsigli - thanks, that'd be great if you could check! I don't have nVidia graphics on any of my machines so I'm not familiar with any issues except from people saying that it worked for them on the forums. There was a question where M. Plyer couldn't get a Live USB to work and the 'nomodeset' trick worked: https://askubuntu.com/questions/1043842 /running-ubuntu-via-live-usb-error-on-dell-xps-15-9560 and in Matalaks question where I found his solution, an answer that worked for a couple of people was the 'nouveau.modeset=0' fix. I'm probably over-suspicious of any problem somewhow being related to nVidia but it might be interesting to see if there's any difference in behaviour :) -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1774950 Title: Suspend fails in Ubuntu and Kubuntu 18.04 but works fine in Ubuntu and Kubuntu 17.10 (and on Kubuntu 18.04 using kernel 4.14.47) To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1774950/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1723350] Re: sssd offline on boot, stays offline forever
Another issue appears to be... When starting sssd in highest debug level, and then changing resolv.conf once by doing: $ touch foo $ mv foo /run/systemd/resolve/stub-resolv.conf (that's where the link target is pointing to), I see the expected: (Tue Jun 12 00:16:57 2018) [sssd] [resolv_conf_inotify_cb] (0x2000): Received inotify notification for /etc/resolv.conf (Tue Jun 12 00:16:57 2018) [sssd] [monitor_update_resolv] (0x1000): Resolv.conf has been updated. Reloading. Doing that *again*, i.e. $ touch bar $ mv bar /run/systemd/resolve/stub-resolv.conf Does *not* trigger sssd's inotify watch again. That's apparently since sssd does not re-register a new inotify watch for the new inode number of the file which was moved in. This seems like a fundamental rework would have to go into sssd, maybe the easiest would be to default to polling instead of inotify until all this is fixed? -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1723350 Title: sssd offline on boot, stays offline forever To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/sssd/+bug/1723350/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
