I've used UKUU to get kernel version 4.17.3, but this issue remains on

On upgrading a service this service has to be restarted to pick up the fixes.
Rather rarely a real issue occurs that the newer version does e.g. fail with
the formerly working configuration.

having got ir-keytable the way I want it and all key codes working with
vlc and liblic-client0 removed, I then reinstalled vlc and all the key
codes still worked, even after a reboot. So now I'm guessing that
liblirc-client0 prevents proper setup of the key codes if it is
installed, but after it's
after changing /var/lib/snapd/seed/seed.yaml as suggested in
https://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=2393347=3 sudo dpkg
--configure -a works fine.
