[Bug 1680386] Re: virt-aa-helper to learn about VF devspec paths

2018-06-27 Thread  Christian Ehrhardt 
There are two ways to allow qemu to access something.
1. globally through the abstraction in /etc7apparmor.d/abstractions/libvirt-qemu
   That is for paths ALL qemu/geusts are supposed to use like /dev/kvm
2. per guest files generated based on the XML description in
/etc/apparmor.d/libvirt/libvirt-.files
   If you need paths like /sys/bus/pci/devices/0009:03:00.0/devspec to be
accessible you should consider if you can derive the path from the XML and then
let virt-aa-helper write a rule for it so that the guest can do so.

Finally later in the guest lifecycle further rules will be added via the
labeling calls in the security code. E.g. if you add a device libvirt calls a
set label function and this will add the new ruls (like for hotplug).
For the latter see virAppArmorSecurityDriver in src/security/security_apparmor.c

[Bug 1751457] Re: package mysql-server-5.7 (not installed) failed to install/upgrade: subprocess installed post-installation script returned error exit status 1

2018-06-27 Thread  Christian Ehrhardt 
Hi,
from your logs:
update-alternatives: using /etc/mysql/mysql.cnf to provide /etc/mysql/my.cnf
(my.cnf) in auto mode
Renaming removed key_buffer and myisam-recover options (if present)
Job for mysql.service failed because the control process exited with error
code. See "systemctl status mysql.service" and "journalctl -xe" for details.

You did not attach the mysql error log which usually is the next place
to check what happened.

But honestly 99% of issues like that are due to broken local config that makes
the server fail to start/re-start.
So until data was provided to show this sisn't the case here I'll handle it
like that case.

[Bug 1774150] Re: 3.13.0-149-generic: suspend/resume issue on 14.04

2018-06-27 Thread Bruno Sevennec
Sorry to be late, but to downgrade intel-microcode I used synaptic,
which in the packages menu has the option to force version of a package
and then (after applying change) to hold it against updates. I chose the
only other version listed (2.2014something) and it worked. Hope this
helps.

[Bug 1751457] Re: package mysql-server-5.7 (not installed) failed to install/upgrade: subprocess installed post-installation script returned error exit status 1

2018-06-27 Thread  Christian Ehrhardt 
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better.

On upgrading a service this service has to be restarted to pick up the fixes.
Rather rarely a real issue occurs that the newer version does e.g. fail with
the formerly working configuration.
But most of the time what happens is, that a service was installed, but stays
unconfigured or experimented with but left in a broken state.

Now on any update of the related packages that service has to be restarted, but
since its config is incomplete/faulty it fails to restart.
Therefore the update of that package has to consider itself incomplete.

Depending on your particular case there are two solutions:
- either remove the offending package if you don't want to continue using it.
- Or if you do want to keep it please fix the configuration so that re-starting
the service will work.

Since it seems likely to me that this is a local configuration problem,
rather than a bug in Ubuntu, I'm marking this bug as Incomplete.

If indeed this is a local configuration problem, you can find pointers
to get help for this sort of problem here:
http://www.ubuntu.com/support/community

Or if you believe that this is really a bug, then you may find it
helpful to read "How to report bugs effectively"
http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/bugs.html. We'd be grateful
if you would then provide a more complete description of the problem,
explain why you believe this is a bug in Ubuntu rather than a problem
specific to your system, and then change the bug status back to New.

[Bug 1778911] Re: freeipa-client hard depends on chrony

2018-06-27 Thread  Christian Ehrhardt 
Currently we have these:
Reverse-Recommends
==
* ceph-base (for chrony)

This is the same case as with Freeipa.

* radioclk  (for chrony)

This is meant to provide DCF77 input to chrony, so ok

Reverse-Depends
===
* freeipa-client(for chrony)
* freeipa-server(for chrony)

This is how this bug was reported.
I think it is a common and working resolution to depend on the current
timeserver.
I'd vote for the Depends becoming recommends so that admins can remove the
package if wanted.

* gce-compute-image-packages(for chrony)

That is an intentional "there you should sync with that" AFAIK. keeping
as-is IMHO

* maas-rack-controller  (for chrony)
* maas-region-api   (for chrony)

I know for MAAS that they really want this, even on a Container, so considering
them ok'ish.
They even modify chrony.conf and such, so there a depends is correct.

In general I think the Ceph approach is good, keeping it as a recommends allows
to remove it if needed. BTW Chrony on Containers will by default only serve the
local time as syncing it would not work (CAP_SYS_TIME) anyway - so not much
lost.

systemd-timesyncd is "only" SNTP which has to be considered inferior to
full ntp syncing.

For Ceph and Freeipa once being a recommends, I'd wish there would be a
dependency that says "but not in containers", but there is none.

I agree that in a world of systemd-timesyncd by default packages could
stop depending on time-servers in most of the cases. But that is not a
bug in chrony but in freeipa.

Also it is not clear yet why your puppet would install one and then the
other, I'd ask you to file an extra bug with a bit more details about
that aspect.

[Bug 1778860] Re: testparm does not detect bad vfs objects settings

2018-06-27 Thread Andreas Hasenack
The fact that the vfs_aio_linux module was dropped should go into the
release notes, so I added a bug task for that.

Invalid vfs objects are indeed annoying to debug, because not only is
testparm oblivious to such errors, smbd will also start up just fine
until the share is connected to.

[Bug 1778911] [NEW] freeipa-client hard depends on chrony

2018-06-27 Thread hboetes
Public bug reported:

That freeipa-client needs accurate time to work is obvious. But there are
various ways to go about this:
1) install a timeserver like chrony or ntp
2) Not at all, because the system is an lxc client and thus the time is synced
externally.

Currently chrony is installed, and another package requires ntp.
Furthermore puppet is running on the host and installs chrony on one run
and in the next run ntp etc etc. And that on a host which requires
neither.

There are many ways to solve this problem with various levels of being
accurate. Please think the problem through in such a way that all
possible scenarios are covered.

[Bug 1738085] Re: Bridge gets created while the network interfaces are still being renamed

2018-06-27 Thread  Christian Ehrhardt 
Hi,
first of all I beg your pardon - while I'm just the one cleaning old bugs - it
is bad that you had to wait so long.

Now lets get to your case...

This is a mix of systemd and ifup based network ocnfiguration, and in
Artful a lot of this was still in flight.

In Bionic there is a simplified frontend to networkd (or networkmanager) [1]
netplan.
I wanted to check your case with this new way to do it.

I have 4 devices, using one as "wan" and 3 for the bridge in netplan looks like:
network:
version: 2
ethernets:
wan:
dhcp4: true
match:
macaddress: 52:54:00:75:f5:3e
set-name: wan
lan1:
match:
macaddress: 52:54:00:84:a1:87
set-name: lan1
lan2:
match:
macaddress: 52:54:00:f3:4f:cc
set-name: lan2
lan3:
match:
macaddress: 52:54:00:ff:11:1a
set-name: lan3
bridges:
br0:
addresses: [ 10.0.0.1/24 ]
interfaces:
- lan1
- lan2
- lan3

That will create link files like yours for renaming:
$ cat /run/systemd/network/10-netplan-wan.link
[Match]
MACAddress=52:54:00:75:f5:3e
[Link]
Name=wan
WakeOnLan=off

But also for network configuration:
$ cat /run/systemd/network/10-netplan-wan.network
[Match]
MACAddress=52:54:00:75:f5:3e
Name=wan
[Network]
DHCP=ipv4
[DHCP]
UseMTU=true
RouteMetric=100

Especially also the bridge:
$ cat /run/systemd/network/10-netplan-br0.network
[Match]
Name=br0
[Network]
Address=10.0.0.1/24
$ cat /run/systemd/network/10-netplan-br0.netdev
[NetDev]
Name=br0
Kind=bridge

And the device association to the bridge:
$ cat /run/systemd/network/10-netplan-lan2.network
[Match]
MACAddress=52:54:00:f3:4f:cc
Name=lan2
[Network]
Bridge=br0
LinkLocalAddressing=no

That looks good to me now:
$ networkctl list
IDX LINK TYPE   OPERATIONAL SETUP
  1 lo   loopback   carrier unmanaged
  6 br0  ether  routableconfigured
  7 lan3 ether  carrier configured
  8 lan1 ether  carrier configured
  9 wan  ether  routableconfigured
 10 lan2 ether  carrier configured

$ networkctl status
●State: routable
   Address: 10.0.0.1 on br0
192.168.122.229 on wan
fe80::e831:94ff:fe76:95f9 on br0
fe80::5054:ff:fe75:f53e on wan
   Gateway: 192.168.122.1 on wan
   DNS: 192.168.122.1

$ brctl show
bridge name bridge id STP enabled interfaces
br0 8000.ea31947695f9   no  lan1
lan2
lan3

Please see [1] and man netplan for more, or feel free to write the same
in networkd rules as you already started on your own.

But mixing the systems to control devices is not really recommended as
you'd run in issues just as the one you have reported.

Therefore I'd consider this a broken config more than a bug in Ubuntu
and would mark the bug incomplete for now until further discussion/info
was provided.

[Bug 1778476] Re: [bionic] high cpu load HP probook iio-sensor-proxy

2018-06-27 Thread Ludwin Janvier
** Description changed:

  I have a many HP ProBook 450 G1 and HP ProBook 650 G3 with fresh install
  of Ubuntu Desktop.

  They all have a load average of 1.0 when idle (no graphical session
  opened).

- vmstat shows idle=0% and waiting=~ 100%
+ vmstat shows idle =~ 100%

  The process which uses most CPU time is iio-sensor-proxy (about 1%) and
  it's constantly in D state (uninterruptible sleep).

  Manually starting this command shows that the sensor (lis3lv02d on both
  products) is constantly sending garbage informations (see attachment).

  With iio-sensor-proxy service stopped, the CPU load is ~ 0%

  As the service is 'static' and can not be disabled, the only workaround is to
remove the 'iios-sensor-proxy' package.

[Bug 1778908] [NEW] 16.04 libtag dependancy issues

2018-06-27 Thread Dale
Public bug reported:

This issue has come up from trying to install Mixxx from their official
LaunchPad host ppa and it appears to reference libtag1-vanilla, which
does appear to exist in 16.04 but I believe should be superseded by
libtag1v5-vanilla, yet it doesn't seem to recognise as such. As it then
can't be manually installed or the other removed I think there is a
deeper issue with this package than just Mixxx having the wrong one down
as a dependency.

This has been reported to the Mixxx developers on their forum about a
week ago but no official response as yet...

I've run this in a virtual box but there are multiple users who have
reported this on their main systems (at least four I've seen.)

[Bug 1745561] Re: package php7.0-fpm (not installed) failed to install/upgrade: subprocess installed post-removal script returned error exit status 1

2018-06-27 Thread  Christian Ehrhardt 
Hi,
from your log
insserv: Starting jasperserver depends on plymouth and therefore on system
facility `$all' which can not be true!

But jasperserver is not out of a package in the archive. So I assume you have
external applications installed which are broken in regard to their
dependencies.
You'd need to resolve these broken configuration (or remove them) which will
then let the Ubuntu upgrades work again.

[Bug 1745678] Re: package libapache2-mod-php5 5.5.9+dfsg-1ubuntu4.22 failed to install/upgrade: subprocess installed pre-removal script returned error exit status 127

2018-06-27 Thread  Christian Ehrhardt 
Hi,
from your log:
/var/lib/dpkg/info/libapache2-mod-php5.prerm: 11:
/var/lib/dpkg/info/libapache2-mod-php5.prerm: php5query: not found

This file is part of "php5-common"

It seems that due to a set of no-dependency/forced installs/removals you
reached a point where the uninstall of libapache2-mod-php5 fails due to
the other package being missing.

Please install the missing package and remove things in order (as it
would be done by the dependencies).

That should resolve your issue.

P.S. I also see php7.2-common in your logs, that would only exist in
bionic/cosmic - something is odd in your php dependencies for sure.

[Bug 1745837] Re: package tomcat8 8.0.32-1ubuntu1.5 failed to install/upgrade: subprocess installed post-installation script returned error exit status 1

2018-06-27 Thread  Christian Ehrhardt 
All I can find in your logs is:
  tomcat8.service: Failed with result 'exit-code'.

Most of the times these errors are due to modified local configuration
that makes the server fail to 8re)start.

For tomcat I'd recommend to check catalina.out (the log file) what error
actually happens and then fix up your config accordingly.

Checking the log in between it is not ovbious what it is, also the leak
seemed to have changed between trusty and xenial (maybe old fixed and
new added).

[Bug 1778902] [NEW] fails to install on existing custom ESP of WNX Pro 18.04 GPT/UEFI Dual Boot

2018-06-27 Thread Claudius Raphael Paeth
Public bug reported:

Image is Ubuntu Desktop 18.04 LTS
written to USB 2.0 UFD via Gnome-Disks/Writer in Ubuntu Desktop 16.04.4 LTS

Custom partitioning

ESP offset=4MiB size=4512MiB(DVD-5) align=2MiB
WNX size=23552MiB(23GiB) align=2MiB Ntfs
LNX size=23552MiB(23GiB) align=2MiB Btrfs

repeatedly tried with all possible install-targets given in ubiquity
(ESP/BIOSBOOT/LNX)
booted via BIOS/UEFI/CLOVER
doesn't make a difference if booted direct into ubiquity, or started from live

manual (grub-pc/grub-efi) install ain't problematic at all under given
custom conditions

so i would point pinky to ubiquity, not grub-installer per se

this was the first time in 7 tries that bug-reporting actually
proceeded/attempts to handle error automatically before stalled ubiquity
to total halt/even killing by pid had no effect (as if it endlessly
respawns immediately trying to start collecting dumps;

That should be it from here; as i have no idea how to debug in such a
case and neither am willed to do right now;

For those that wonder about the alignment and offset; constant
autocreation of full raw image dumps to udf 2.01 to DVD-SL-5-/BD-SL-25-
-images, which is speed-up immense, in such a setting; Reason for the
dumps is not of interest (here).

System is HP EliteBook 2740P Core-i5 2.53GHz VPro IronLake HD 8GiB 80GB
Intel SSD with AMT/ME enabled and prepared for TXT Boot; Virtualization
VT-d/EPT(IOMMU) and HyperThreading enabled, to allow nested virt boot of
non-active os raw-vmdk/partition-boot with host-cpu-features shadowed.

Well, whatever; Feel free to sort it out or not. I'm done with probing
ubiquity further and go on manually.

Oh, by the way: the keyboard detection/probing/guessing works as usual
in subiquity, but ubiquity selects 104-key generic de, instead given
105-key de-nodeadkeys.

[Bug 1778900] [NEW] udev mounts MTP devices in read-only mode.

2018-06-27 Thread Maxim Egorushkin
Public bug reported:

In Ubuntu 18.04 udev mounts MTP devices (mine is Google Pixel C tablet)
in read-only mode by default, so that files cannot be copied over to the
device.

One has to manually create a udev rule to mount the device in read-write
mode. This is rather user-unfriendly.

Make udev mount MTP devices in read-write mode by default.

[Bug 730159] Re: ffmpeg library configuration mismatch

2018-06-27 Thread Veron Rado
I hope you don't think I'm rejecting VanillaMozilla's insights.
I'm just a user suffering from this issue too... see #13 above.

I agree '-show-banner' would be preferable.
Why don't you file a bug at the ffmpeg bug tracker requesting it?
https://trac.ffmpeg.org/
(Leave a note here if you do.)

For anyone who isn't aware of 'bash aliases', they are a way of making the
workaround permanent.
It is *really* easy to create one.
I'm following this example.[1]

Using a text editor append this to the bottom of the hidden file
'~/.bashrc' and save it:

alias ffmpeg='ffmpeg -hide_banner'

Then enter this in the terminal and hit return:

. ~/.bashrc

(Note the space between the '.' and '~/.bashrc'.)

Now every time you run 'ffmpeg' it will automatically run 'ffmpeg -hide_banner'
for you.
No more ffmpeg spam in your terminal and you don't have to remember to use the
-hide_banner option.

See these for more on bash aliases:

2018-06-27 Thread  Christian Ehrhardt 
The referred fix is in 4.3.1 that version (or later) is in >=17.04.
Somebody tagged it artful, but did someone really try this with newer releases?

[Bug 1659447] Re: package tomcat7 7.0.68-1ubuntu0.1 failed to install/upgrade: subprocess installed post-installation script returned error exit status 1

2018-06-27 Thread  Christian Ehrhardt 
The potential packaging improvements were all about better bug reporting, but
not really a bug.
I spawned bug 1778890 for the potential changes, this bug here was for the
reported config issue and is resolved IMHO.
