[Bug 1780590] [NEW] no wireless adapter was found ubuntu 18.04

2018-07-07 Thread manuel garcia
Public bug reported:

recently I just installed ubuntu 18.04 lts in dual bot next to windows
10. Everything in the installation was fine until the moment to start
session. The problem is that the wireless network card does not detect
me and when entering the configuration I simply get an error message
saying that no wireless adapter was found. I have already followed all
the tutorials I found on the web. and update the driver of a github
repository, and install how much program they told me to install and I
still can not connect via wifi.

I just do not know what to do. I have a laptop hp 14-bs004 came with
windows 10 installed. The information on the network card is as follows:

Network controller [0280]: Realtek Semiconductor Co., Ltd. Device [10ec: d723]
Subsystem: Hewlett-Packard Company Device [103c: 8319]
Control: I / O + Mem + BusMaster- SpecCycle- MemWINV- VGASnoop- ParErr-

[Bug 1780588] [NEW] Toshiba Satellite C55-B5299 Powers Off When Booting From Any EFI Device

2018-07-07 Thread Luke B.
Public bug reported:

Model: Toshiba Satellite C55-B5299
CPU: Intel Celeron N2830 / 2.16 GHz
RAM: 8GB DDR3L
Current OS: Ubuntu 18.04 Stable
UEFI Version: 5.10 (Latest)

Problem Description:
Beginning in April 2018, my laptop would stay at the OEM logo screen upon being
powered on, with no activity except the running fans. I am able to boot into
the EFI to change settings. (Which are able to be modified) However, entering
the EFI Boot Menu to boot from a device will abruptly power off the laptop.

Previous Workarounds:
- Entering EFI and selecting "load setup defaults" temporarily fixed the issue
until it occurred again at a later date.
- Switching from UEFI to CSM and back again temporarily allowed me to boot into
the system, as everything functioned normally.

Potential Explanation:
Notably, this device ran Windows 10, Ubuntu 17.10, and currently Ubuntu 18.04.
I am convinced that my EFI is corrupted from a previously-installed Ubuntu
release, possibly 17.10, because I am now unable to boot from ANY device in the
EFI boot menu. Selecting one, for instance USB or HDD, results in an immediate
shut down. This appears to not be a hardware issue because restoring the EFI
defaults used to fix the issue. Now, none of the workarounds above will work. I
have ruled out hardware problems, because the computer functioned fine after
the workaround. The AC adapter works fine, battery holds a charge, and computer
would never crash. Even after removing the HDD, the computer still WILL NOT
even say "No OS found", as it is unable to boot. Again, everything worked
perfectly until I decided to shut down my laptop, only to experience this issue
again. Switching to CSM Legacy boot allows me to boot the computer.

I have determined that EFI Corruption Is Likely.

Many thanks for any help!

[Bug 1776155] Re: Touchpad detected as SYNA3602, does not work at all.

2018-07-07 Thread Jeffrey L Sussman
Although I also have a "cheaper-end slimline laptop/netbook" with a non-
working touchpad I don't think I'm having the same issue as you. I see
that your device appears in your /proc/bus/input/devices list so I
gather it was installed but not working. In my case, the touchpad isn't
installed at all and does not appear in that list.

For my computer (a Direkt-Tek DTLAPY116-2), Ubuntu 18.04 detects my
touchpad as a i2c_hid i2c-SYNA3602:00 but it is not installed because of
an "unexpected HID descriptor." I'm still not sure but I think my issue
is the one described here:
https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1526312

In case anyone still thinks it's relevant, Windows 10 reports the device
in the Direkt-Tek with hardware ids of "ACPI\VEN_SYN\_3602" or
"ACPI\SYNA3602" as being an I2C HID Device.

[Bug 1779564] Re: pip3 installation does not give expected result

Hi. sudo got the same result: the pip3 binary was not there.

apt remove followed by apt install did fix the problem. Sorry I did
not try that earlier. I do not know what could have been the problem. If
my apt log history could be helpful, we can keep digging. Otherwise, I
will understand if there are more important things for you to work on.

Thanks!

[Bug 1779777] Re: Wifi Broadcom Limited BCM43142 dont working 4.15.0-24

2018-07-07 Thread Andrey Kozlov
I'm having the same problem with my
Network controller: Broadcom Corporation BCM4313 802.11bgn Wireless Network
Adapter (rev 01)

Everything was fine, but after reboot, I had no wifi connections
available. The wifi controller was present in lspci output, but not in
ifconfig output. Hitting hardware buttons had no effect.

After booting into 4.13.0-45-generic kernel, everything returned to
normal: wifi works as earlier.

I'm posting 'apport-bug linux --save' data here. It was collected when
booted into 4.15.0-24 kernel.

Some additional info. I finally managed to install Ubuntu by setting the
display scale in GNOME to 100%. It's a HiDPI screen and it defaults to
200% before installing.

I don't know where the problem exactly lies, because Fedora (with Gnome)
installed fine.

[Bug 1779827] Re: failure to boot with linux-image-4.15.0-24-generic

2018-07-07 Thread Wes Newell
I only had the slow boot problem on 2 out of 3 systems with the .24
kernel. Both systems that had problems had single ssd drives in them.
One was an ECS GF8200A mb and the other was a jetway GF8200 based mb.
The system that didn't have a problem was also an ECS GF8200A mb, but
does not have a ssd drive in it. All work fine so far with the .26
kernel.

[Bug 552315]

2018-07-07 Thread Codestruct
Suggestion for a sustainable solution:

Currently we have a Welcome Screen and a Game Screen. This could be
extended by a Generate Puzzle Screen.

This new Generate Puzzle could contain:

- A progress bar to indicate puzzle generating work (would solve this
ticket)

- The message "It will be possible to solve the generated puzzle by
logic alone. No guessing will be required. The internal difficulty
rating is 3.6. There are 31 clues at the start and 50 moves to go."
instead of in a message box

- "Generate New" button (formerly the "Retry" button from the message
box)

- Difficulty and Symmetry settings - This way those comboboxes could be
removed from the status bar and replaced by simple labels as the
comboboxes have no function in the Game Screen.

- The message "After 20 tries, the best difficulty level achieved is 2,
with internal difficulty rating 2.8, but you requested difficulty level
4. Do you wish to try again or accept the puzzle as is?" instead of a
complicated message box (see also
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=357999)

- "Back to Game selection" button

[Bug 1088420] Re: [Wishlist] thunderbird contact photos

2018-07-07 Thread rubo77
The linked addon seems to be discontinued but this does paort of my
ideas:

https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/thunderbird/addon/contact-photos

This option for example is not impemented in

 - lets you define a local folder on your harddrive with photos named as
{email}.jpg

Also this is not implemented in default Thunderbird installation. Other
Email Browsers always show some sort of contact visualization and I
think this should be implemented in Thunderbird as well.

[Bug 1780098] Re: pvgrub "premature end of file" on new kernel

2018-07-07 Thread David Kowis
This does not occur with the version of grub-xen on 18.04

root@nosgoth:/etc/xen/auto# apt show grub-xen
Package: grub-xen
Version: 2.02-2ubuntu8

I was using a self-built version of it mounted in, and that version
matched 16.04's version. After updating, I forgot to stop doing that. An
upgrade to 18.04 will resolve it, or back-porting 18.04's package.
