[Bug 1780588] [NEW] Toshiba Satellite C55-B5299 Powers Off When Booting From Any EFI Device
Public bug reported: Model: Toshiba Satellite C55-B5299 CPU: Intel Celeron N2830 / 2.16 GHz RAM: 8GB DDR3L Current OS: Ubuntu 18.04 Stable UEFI Version: 5.10 (Latest) Problem Description: Beginning in April 2018, my laptop would stay at the OEM logo screen upon being powered on, with no activity except the running fans. I am able to boot into the EFI to change settings. (Which are able to be modified) However, entering the EFI Boot Menu to boot from a device will abruptly power off the laptop. Previous Workarounds: - Entering EFI and selecting "load setup defaults" temporarily fixed the issue until it occurred again at a later date. - Switching from UEFI to CSM and back again temporarily allowed me to boot into the system, as everything functioned normally. Potential Explanation: Notably, this device ran Windows 10, Ubuntu 17.10, and currently Ubuntu 18.04. I am convinced that my EFI is corrupted from a previously-installed Ubuntu release, possibly 17.10, because I am now unable to boot from ANY device in the EFI boot menu. Selecting one, for instance USB or HDD, results in an immediate shut down. This appears to not be a hardware issue because restoring the EFI defaults used to fix the issue. Now, none of the workarounds above will work. I have ruled out hardware problems, because the computer functioned fine after the workaround. The AC adapter works fine, battery holds a charge, and computer would never crash. Even after removing the HDD, the computer still WILL NOT even say "No OS found", as it is unable to boot. Again, everything worked perfectly until I decided to shut down my laptop, only to experience this issue again. Switching to CSM Legacy boot allows me to boot the computer. I have determined that EFI Corruption Is Likely. Many thanks for any help! ** Affects: ubuntu Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Tags: bionic hw-specific -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1780588 Title: Toshiba Satellite C55-B5299 Powers Off When Booting From Any EFI Device To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/1780588/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1776155] Re: Touchpad detected as SYNA3602, does not work at all.
Although I also have a "cheaper-end slimline laptop/netbook" with a non- working touchpad I don't think I'm having the same issue as you. I see that your device appears in your /proc/bus/input/devices list so I gather it was installed but not working. In my case, the touchpad isn't installed at all and does not appear in that list. For my computer (a Direkt-Tek DTLAPY116-2), Ubuntu 18.04 detects my touchpad as a i2c_hid i2c-SYNA3602:00 but it is not installed because of an "unexpected HID descriptor." I'm still not sure but I think my issue is the one described here: https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1526312 In case anyone still thinks it's relevant, Windows 10 reports the device in the Direkt-Tek with hardware ids of "ACPI\VEN_SYN\_3602" or "ACPI\SYNA3602" as being an I2C HID Device. ** Bug watch added: Red Hat Bugzilla #1526312 https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1526312 -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1776155 Title: Touchpad detected as SYNA3602, does not work at all. [Bug 552315]
Suggestion for a sustainable solution: Currently we have a Welcome Screen and a Game Screen. This could be extended by a Generate Puzzle Screen. This new Generate Puzzle could contain: - A progress bar to indicate puzzle generating work (would solve this ticket) - The message "It will be possible to solve the generated puzzle by logic alone. No guessing will be required. The internal difficulty rating is 3.6. There are 31 clues at the start and 50 moves to go." instead of in a message box - "Generate New" button (formerly the "Retry" button from the message box) - Difficulty and Symmetry settings - This way those comboboxes could be removed from the status bar and replaced by simple labels as the comboboxes have no function in the Game Screen. - The message "After 20 tries, the best difficulty level achieved is 2, with internal difficulty rating 2.8, but you requested difficulty level 4. [Bug 1088420] Re: [Wishlist] thunderbird contact photos
The linked addon seems to be discontinued but this does paort of my ideas: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/thunderbird/addon/contact-photos This option for example is not impemented in - lets you define a local folder on your harddrive with photos named as {email}.jpg Also this is not implemented in default Thunderbird installation.
