This is happening very often - I attempt to load an app and the load
fails due to the reported issue. I have not reported this every time it
has happened - if I did, you would be hearing from me quite often.

Recently upgraded 2 computers to Kubuntu 18.04 and I'm also seeing this
problem in that the Kubuntu splash screen stays up for ages. As I have
only just upgraded my only other kernel was from 4.13. Installing
haveged seems to have fixed it on one computer at least.

[Bug 1781763] [NEW] HP ProBook 455 G5 needs mute-led-gpio fixup

2018-07-14 Thread James Buren
Public bug reported:

I noticed that the audio LEDs on this model's keyboard were not
functioning. After a great deal of research, I found I needed to patch
the kernel to apply an existing fixup for my particular model. I built a
custom kernel to test it, and it does indeed fix my problem. I would
appreciate it if this patch could be included in a future kernel build.
Thank you.

[Bug 1779827] Re: failure to boot with linux-image-4.15.0-24-generic

2018-07-14 Thread Wes Newell
Easiest thing to do is just delete the .24 kernel. During boot, start
tapping the esc key repeatedly. You should get the grub menu. Select the
advanced option, and then load the last good kernel, which should be the
.23 one if you've kept the system up to date. Once it boots and
everything is working right, you can use your package manager to remove
the offending .24 kernel or do it manually with sudo apt remove . Once you've removed it, grub will automatically be updated so it
will boot to the .23 kernel. FWIW, the .24 kernel was removed from the
repo as to not to infect people that do updates now.

[Bug 1781754] [NEW] Ubuntu BIONIC needs libinput10 1.11.1-1 to get decent synaptics support

2018-07-14 Thread Sam Van den Eynde
Public bug reported:

I have had quite some issues with the touchpad on my 2013 DELL XPS 13
since installing 18.04. It worked fine on previous versions.

Typical observations:
 - lag
 - cursor movements being interrupted
 - more lag
 - single/double tap not being detected consistently
 - did I mention lag?

Long story short: I understand 18.04 moves support for this touchpad
from the synaptics driver to libinput. libinput10 1.10 apparently does
not work well for this hardware, and adding the xserver-xorg-input-
synaptics package did not bring back the good experience entirely.

After looking into https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=104990 I
decided to install the libinput .deb from Cosmic (current 1.11.1-1)
which required libinput-bin as well. After installing both, the touchpad
works as expected.

Bionic is LTS, and these XPS machines have been a commercial reference
for Ubuntu. I'd suggest to backport this solution to Bionic. I'm not
sure HWE will bring it but even then impact for new installations could
already be big.

[Bug 1781746] [NEW] Slow startup with encrypted swap

2018-07-14 Thread Lech Jabłoński
Public bug reported:

The problem was due to my swap being encrypted. So the local-premount
script in initramfs was waiting for a swap device that was not
available, until it timed out. The relevant message was gave up waiting
for suspend/resume device.

To disable this (as resuming from swap is not possible with an encrypted
swap, and I don't use hibernation anyway), I modified this file: /etc
/initramfs-tools/conf.d/resume. In this file, a line with RESUME=none
(instead of the UUID that was here) will disable waiting for a resume
device.

Run sudo update-initramfs -u to apply the changes.

Please, fix it already. Duplicate of Bug #1768230 on Ubuntu 18.10

Re: [Bug 1536582] Re: Thunderbird lost subscribed IMAP folders

2018-07-14 Thread Tugkan Batu
Thanks, G.

This is no longer a problem. If I am not misremembering, I had later
found out that the issue was due to Microsoft's implementation of the
IMAP protocol at that time (after they updated their server). It was
eventually resolved.

Thanks,
Tugkan

[Bug 1765356] Re: "Show Applications" button triggers too often on touchscreen

2018-07-14 Thread ragtag
This same bug affects me on Ubuntu 18.04 on a ThinkPad Yoga 12 (S120).
It double clicks all the icons in the launcher, so if I for instance
select Nautilus, it will open two Nautilus windows. As a workaround, I
was able to touch Activities, and then the application launcher, and it
would open correctly.

So, it is rather a mesa/xorg-server incompatibilty?

[Bug 1780846] Re: After update 2018-07-08 menus and buttons are behaving badly

2018-07-14 Thread Daniel Novotny
Like David, I downgraded the mesa packages in order for the problem to
disapear. The package system needed the old libllvm library
(unfortunately, I purged it with "sudo apt autoremove" before) so my
command line for this downgrade/fix was

sudo dpkg -i \
libllvm5.0_5.0-3~16.04.1_amd64.deb \
libllvm5.0_5.0-3~16.04.1_i386.deb \
libgbm1_17.2.8-0ubuntu0~16.04.1_amd64.deb \
libwayland-egl1-mesa_17.2.8-0ubuntu0~16.04.1_amd64.deb \
libegl1-mesa_17.2.8-0ubuntu0~16.04.1_amd64.deb \
libgl1-mesa-dri_17.2.8-0ubuntu0~16.04.1_amd64.deb \
libgl1-mesa-dri_17.2.8-0ubuntu0~16.04.1_i386.deb \
mesa-vdpau-drivers_17.2.8-0ubuntu0~16.04.1_amd64.deb

now the menus and buttons look normally

[Bug 1781015] Re: Calamares fails in UEFI mode after external command in Lubuntu Cosmic

2018-07-14 Thread sudodus
I tested in the Intel NUC, described in the duplicate bug report

https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/calamares/+bug/1781540

I swapped off an existing swap partition in the target drive (but not
the zram), and tried like in the previous comments (# 20-21).

The error [message] was exactly the same, so we should *not* blame the
DVD drive or some unique hardware component or unique UEFI-BIOS system.

@Simon,

Something goes wrong when trying to install the bootloader in UEFI mode
and it does not find a file. Have you tried according to the 'built-in
tip' to specify --target or --directory?

[Bug 1781733] [NEW] Hardware volume keys don't work on upgrade to Xubuntu 18.04

2018-07-14 Thread bmaupin

[Bug 1762491] Re: [SRU] No graphics after update, caused by virtualbox

I did, in the comment where I first mentioned it:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/virtualbox/+bug/1762491/comments/9

I'm applying that patch patching in my current builds, and the resulting
OVA has working Xsession guest additions in virtualbox (e.g. seamless
mode, clipboard) and no spurious warnings in VMware.

[Bug 1781015] Re: Calamares fails in UEFI mode after external command in Lubuntu Cosmic

Hi again Simon,

I zsynced to get the current daily iso file cosmic-desktop-amd64.iso

I used the system as it was cloned from the iso file and with default

It reached 82% and failed with the following error message.

I tried the installation several times but with no luck. Please help with a
