I was able to download and install the Lexmark Universal Print Driver
for Linux. This solved the problem, to my satisfaction. I have not
verified whether the cups driver or Ubuntu fix has addressed the
situation because I am using the universal print driver on all my pc's.

I'm seeing moderately high CPU usage from the gnome-shell process as
well. It seems to stay running at at least 5% at all times. I decided to
use strace to see what it was doing:

This just happened to me. I tried to put root on the SSD, but the
bootloader on the HDD, so that GRUB isn't on the same drive as the
Windows bootloader. It completely ignored my choice and installed GRUB

I checked, and the feed is not in my subscriptions anymore (I'm also on Arch
now), so apparently I succeeded in removing it at some point.
