I was able to download and install the Lexmark Universal Print Driver for Linux. This solved the problem, to my satisfaction. I have not verified whether the cups driver or Ubuntu fix has addressed the situation because I am using the universal print driver on all my pc's. I recommend Linux users printing to the Lexmark E232 and other Lexmark Mono-color laser printers use the Lexmark Universal Print Driver found on the Lexmark Support website.
