The fixes in the 4.20-rc kernels are for other laptops, not the UX391UA.
You'll need to add:
SND_PCI_QUIRK(0x1043, 0x10a1, "ASUS UX391UA", ALC294_FIXUP_ASUS_SPK
to /sound/pci/hda/patch_realtek.c
to get sound working on this laptop.
I used the 4.19.9 kernel, applied the 3 linked patches and
I had this same problem
I used sudo apt-get remove lirc
That stoped the logs
I never installed lirc So it must have installed during upgrade to 18.04

This issue got *much* worse recently, it now affects keyboard layout
switching as well, so many applications like tuxpaint became completely
unusable.
Example: In Ubuntu 14.04, I run `tuxpaint --fullscreen`. I press Win+Space, the
Gnome-defined method to switch my keyboard layout from "us,gr" to
confirmed that not having a max_id line in the local domain does work
around the issue.
