[Bug 1829737] Re: Bluetooth: hci0: request failed to create LE connection: status 0x0c (Intel 9462/9560)
I believe I'm impacted by this same issue. I have an ASUS ZenBook 14 - UX433FA - which based on this - https://www.notebookcheck.net/ASUS-ZenBook-14-UX433FA-Core-i5-8265U-SSD-FHD-Laptop-Review.403541.0.html - I believe has an Intel 9560 chipset (I am not sure how to independently verify this). With kernels older than 4.20 I can successfully pair my bluetooth mouse (Logitech MX Master) - but with newer kernels I get "Bluetooth: hci0: request failed to create LE connection: status 0x0c" messages. I'm running Linux Mint 19.1 I tried installing linux-firmware 1.173.8, and it didn't seem to help - I also downloaded 1.173.9 proposed from here: https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/bionic/amd64/linux-firmware/1.173.9 and that also didn't seem to help. Both after a cold reboot and a warm reboot I see [ 14.724438] Bluetooth: hci0: Firmware revision 0.1 build 201 week 49 2017 in my dmesg output. [Bug 1836429] [NEW] friendly-recovery generates a bad grub.cfg in a narrow set of conditions
Public bug reported: friendly-recovery (on 16.04 at least) runs update-grub in its postinst. If friendly-recovery and a linux-image get updated within the same apt command (particularly, linux-image-4.4.0-154-generic and friendly- recovery 0.2.31ubuntu2.1 hit a few weeks apart) then the update-grub scans and finds the new kernel, but *no* new initrd (because that doesn't get handled until the /etc/kernel/postinst.d update gets run) and so generates a grub.cfg which is syntactically valid and passes grub-script-check, but will panic on boot because the first menuentry only has a "linux" line for the 154 kernel and no "initrd" line at all, so it boots into Kernel panic - not syncing: VFS: unable to mount root fs on unknown- block(0,0) instead of a more graceful/less frightening grub error. Under normal conditions this is hard to discover - as long as the rest of the "dist-upgrade" runs to completion and the initrd actually gets built, the kernel package tools make sure update-grub gets run again, and this time it finds the initrd and produces a valid config. This is the "narrow" window - any crash after the inaccurate grub.cfg gets written and before it gets fixed leads to a machine that panics on boot, though you can extend the window arbitrarily simply by rebooting at the right time. I caught it because I was also upgrading another package of my own which had a buggy /etc/grub.d plugin, so when the kernel postinst.d ran, it generated a *syntactically* invalid grub.cfg, which was discarded by update-grub but did *not* fail the dist-upgrade, just produced more text among a bunch of other text (fortunately for debugging, this was visible in /var/log/apt/term.log later on.) Normally this discard mechanism saves the day, because any previous grub.cfg can be assumed bootable, but in this case it just forces the window for this bug entirely open. Is this obscure and hard to trigger? Yes. Can the end user recover from it? As long as they're actually in front of the machine to select an alternate grub menu item, and have an older kernel (which is likely, since this needs a linux-image package upgrade to trigger - if the linux-image upgrade happened in an earlier apt command, friendly-recovery.postinst actually finds an initrd already in place) Yes. I don't actually have advice on fixing this (the kernel-postinst mechanism isn't really available for other packages to trigger, and the direct update-grub dpkg-trigger went away after grub-legacy was replaced with grub2, which would be the obvious choices) but I think "never write an invalid grub.cfg" is a reasonable rule... ** Affects: friendly-recovery (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1836429 Title: friendly-recovery generates a bad grub.cfg in a narrow set of conditions To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/friendly-recovery/+bug/1836429/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1836426] [NEW] Bionic update: upstream stable patchset 2019-07-12
Public bug reported: SRU Justification Impact: The upstream process for stable tree updates is quite similar in scope to the Ubuntu SRU process, e.g., each patch has to demonstrably fix a bug, and each patch is vetted by upstream by originating either directly from a mainline/stable Linux tree or a minimally backported form of that patch. *** This bug is a duplicate of bug 1832105 *** https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1832105 It also mentions eoan is a released fix, but it couldn't have been tested since the dashboard doesn't work on eoan either (I tried it, it's broken, you have to edit a python file by hand and go through a bunch of steps before you can see the dashboard). [Bug 1793715] Re: VMWare Guest OS Customization will fail for Ubuntu 18.04 Server LiveCD
Hi @Pengpeng Sun (pengpengs) This is where i am with Ubuntu 16.04 Behaviour for deploying Ubuntu 16.04 VMs using Static IP from Automation tool After installing cloud-init Template Tasks Taken Deploy Ubuntu 16.04 from ISO sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get upgrade sudo apt-get install cloud-init sudo dpkg-reconfigure cloud-init -> Selecting only OVF and NONE as data sources. since the automation tool maps an iso image to pass the user data to cloud-init Following KB https://kb.vmware.com/s/article/59687 But using After=dbus.socket instead of After=dbus.service Using Open-VM-Tools 10304 (10.2.0) Using ESXi 6.7 Update 2 and later (VM version 15) for the VM Hardware Tasks Invoked by vCenter when provisioning from Automation tool === Clone Virtual Machine from Template Reconfigure Virutal Machine Customize Virutal Machine Guest OS Power on Virtual Machine During the boot time the network state is disconnected Customization does start and successful, listed in the VM Events VM reboots and the network shows as connected IP provied from Static IP Range Hostname is Updated Cloud config fail to executes in the right order ( Before Network Settings are Applied ) most of the time but magically sometimes it does execute fine after the network is up When it doesn't work, looking at the cloud-init logs that Cloud-init start way too early when the network isn't setup / started yet when it executes. Looking for a way to make cloud-init executes after VMware Customization .. i thought the KB i mentioned above would do that but it only help getting the customization to complete successfully because if you don't add the After=dbus.socket to the open-vm-tools.service , everything else fails which is way worse since the network will be never connected and the customization will error out in the VM Events where the logs shows the same exact error mentioned in the KB above. Ofcourse this has a completely different dynamics when your testing with Ubuntu 18.04 which i will get into once i figure Ubuntu 16.04 out. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1793715 Title: VMWare Guest OS Customization will fail for Ubuntu 18.04 Server LiveCD To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/cloud-init/+bug/1793715/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Re: [Bug 1832105] Re: ceph-mgr dashboard incompatible with cython >= 0.29 (disco)
Here's some help for others facing this: If the ceph dashboard was working in before upgrading to disco (which killed it in a regression), then your hope to get it working via upgrade to nautilus (owing to 'fixed-released' advertising in the bug report) was to move to ceph v14/nautlius available in ubuntu-eoan. After 'do-release-upgrade --devel' to eoan / ceph nautilus on every system running ceph do: systemctl status ceph and make sure there is only one entry there for every osd/mon/mgr/mds. On my system there were entries there with the hostname and with the hostname.domainname as well. There are a number of other instructions involved in getting nautilus running, see them here: http://docs.ceph.com/docs/nautilus/releases/nautilus/ Also one of the osd's that was not managed by LVM was ignored and not started. I 'replaced it' with itself and it started backfilling normally. On the systems meant to run the dashboard, this is now necessary: apt install ceph-mgr-dashboard The following will tell you 'the module is already enabled'. And when you think you're done and ready to log in ... the screen accepts your password then does nothing further other than redisplay the login screen. If you put in the wrong password, it tells you. The correct password does nothing. So, __on every instance of ceph mgr even the ones you are not using __ you have to ceph mgr module disable dashboard then edit /usr/share/ceph/mgr/dashboard/services/access_control.py and change line 186 from self.lastUpdate = int(time.mktime(time.gmtime())) to self.lastUpdate = int(time.time()) Be sure to use spaces and not tabs. Then ceph mgr module enable dashboard ceph dashboard ac-user-set-password admin And then, you get to where you were before the update to disco with a working dashboard. Hopefully this saved you a day or two. I'm no longer able/interested to test whether mimic's dashboard works in disco, sorry. If I'd somehow known an official release would break a major user facing function on something as central to operations as ceph I would have skipped disco entirely and waited for eoan. [Bug 1835936] Re: gnome-control-center crash ubuntu 18.04.2
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. It sounds like some part of the system has crashed. To help us find the cause of the crash please follow these steps: 1. Look in /var/crash for crash files and if found run: ubuntu-bug YOURFILE.crash Then tell us the ID of the newly-created bug. 2. If step 1 failed then look at https://errors.ubuntu.com/user/ID where ID is the content of file /var/lib/whoopsie/whoopsie-id on the machine. Do you find any links to recent problems on that page? If so then please send the links to us. 3. If step 2 also failed then apply the workaround from bug 994921, reboot, reproduce the crash, and retry step 1. Please take care to avoid attaching .crash files to bugs as we are unable to process them as file attachments. It would also be a security risk for yourself. ** Changed in: gnome-control-center (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided => Low ** Changed in: gnome-control-center (Ubuntu) Status: New => Invalid -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1835936 Title: gnome-control-center crash ubuntu 18.04.2 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-control-center/+bug/1835936/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1836401] Re: Multiple monitors reset to default at boot and log logon
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. It seems that your bug report is not filed about a specific source package though, rather it is just filed against Ubuntu in general. It is important that bug reports be filed about source packages so that people interested in the package can find the bugs about it. You can find some hints about determining what package your bug might be about at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage. You might also ask for help in the #ubuntu-bugs irc channel on Freenode. To change the source package that this bug is filed about visit https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/1836401/+editstatus and add the package name in the text box next to the word Package. [Bug 1668771] Re: systemd-resolved negative caching for extended period of time
I've made a proposal to change the resolved.conf Cache option to a tri- state "no, no-negative, yes" values. [0] If a lookup returns SERVFAIL systemd-resolved will cache the result for 30s (See 201d995), however, there are several use cases on which this condition is not acceptable (See #5552 comments) and the only workaround would be to disable cache entirely or flush it , which isn't optimal. This change adds the 'no-negative' option when set it avoids putting in cache negative answers but still works the same heuristics for positive answers. [Bug 1836400] Re: transgui is outdated; new upstream repo should be used
The upstream of the transgui currently in Debian and derivatives is this one: https://sourceforge.net/projects/transgui/ The upstream you are referring to is a fork of this project. I have been in contact with both upstreams and previously considered changing sources. I my opinion the project you are referring to should have released under another name since Mr Sidorov has not abandoned his original project. Last time I looked at the fork, development seemed to have shifted focus towards Windows with little or no testing and development being done for Linux. This may have changed since last time I looked, and I am willing to reconsider my previous decision to not switch upstreams. The original project have not seen any action since 2017, and that certainly speaks in favor of the fork in github. That being said, the original upstream has always helped me fix bugs as needed in Debian and Ubuntu. I'd appreciate arguments pro et contra from experienced Ubuntu and/or Debian developers before making a decission to switch. ** Changed in: transgui (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided => Wishlist ** Changed in: transgui (Ubuntu) Status: New => Opinion ** Bug watch added: Debian Bug tracker #897088 https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=897088 ** Also affects: transgui (Debian) via https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=897088 Importance: Unknown Status: Unknown -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1836400 Title: transgui is outdated; new upstream repo should be used To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/transgui/+bug/1836400/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
