Sorry guys. False alarm. It was something to do with secure boot. I
disabled secure boot and it starts working magically. The problem is
though, even with secure boot on, Fedora works fine. Arch Linux also

Same problem here: I have an Ubuntu 16.04.6 LTS VM, 32bit, running under vmware
ESXi 6.5
The VM freezes randomly once a week. With kdump the machine crashes and leaves
me crash dumps in /var/crash
I could try with mainline 4.4.31 kernel as suggested on the last post,
but that post is almost 3
Installing `at-spi2-core` does not help. The problem persists still
after the upgrade to 18.04.2.
I do not have any other *buntu installs that have undergone the same
upgrade path, so I cannot tell. It does not seem to appear on fresh
installs of 18.04, only ones upgraded to 18.04 from 16.04.
