[Bug 1856077] Re: Fix latency issue on Realtek Bluetooth

2019-12-21 Thread Stephen George Dunmore
As I have previously reported via ubuntu-bug, but without the addition of
regression-update, this 'fix' for kernel drivers had stopped my BT in its
tracks. Restored a previous disk image free of updated kernel drivers.
I have now found how to avoid this install with a reliable check box in Gnome
Package Updater, v 3.28.0-2.
Using Ubuntu 18.04 on a Toshiba P770
Yet to be tried on a Toshiba L755.

[Bug 1856795] Re: X2Go Client broken by 0.8.0~20170825.94fa1e38-1ubuntu0.5

2019-12-21 Thread Graham Inggs
Fixed in focal:

x2goclient (4.1.2.1-4) unstable; urgency=medium

  * debian/patches:
+ Add libssh-regression-fix-CVE-2019-14889.patch. In src/sshprocess.cpp:
  strip ~/, ~user{,/}, ${HOME}{,/} and $HOME{,/} from destination paths
in scp mode. Fixes: #1428. This was already necessary for pascp (PuTTY-
based Windows solution for Kerberos support), but newer libssh versions
with the CVE-2019-14889 also interpret paths as literal strings.
  (Closes: #947129).

[Bug 1857214] Re: package mysql-server-5.7 5.7.28-0ubuntu0.16.04.2 failed to install/upgrade: subprocess installed post-installation script returned error exit status 1

2019-12-21 Thread Chris Guiver
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better.

The message

"mysql_upgrade: [ERROR] 1881: Operation not allowed when innodb_forced_recovery
> 0.
mysql_upgrade failed with exit status 5"

implies you have a READ-ONLY database to me, ie. database issues that
need correcting, OR needs a config setting reversed, in order for the
upgrade to occur. It aborted to prevent database corruption (or changing
settings you have put on your databases).

(If this is a hosted service; you may not have access to that setting
and need to request permissions first or get your host to correct)

But it looks like /usr/include/harfbuzz is not included in the build.

Is it a bug in our Cmake? In our harfbuzz? In our pango/gtk? Should the
include be or should it be ? What's different
between us and Debian, as it does build there.

[Bug 1857209] Re: Touchpad stopped working

2019-12-21 Thread Chris Guiver
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better.

Please execute the following command only once, as it will automatically
gather debugging information, in a terminal:

apport-collect 1857209

When reporting bugs in the future please use apport by using 'ubuntu-
bug' and the name of the package affected. You can learn more about this
functionality at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/ReportingBugs.

(Note: I see TM3096-006, so thanks for attached file.. ; it's likely
this is a duplicate of
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1854798; but
without apport tools being used to file bug we cannot detect your kernel
etc.)

[Bug 1847924] Re: Introduce broken state parsing to mdadm

2019-12-21 Thread Dan Streetman
Uploaded mdadm with V2 patches to B/D/E, however please note as I just
updated this bug description to explain, all future updates to mdadm are
now temporarily blocked due to the mdadm changes from bug 1850540
requiring corresponding kernel patches that are not yet released. I've
added the block-proposed-* tags to this bug to prevent release to
-updates. Please see bug 1850540 comment 11 for details.

** Description changed:

  [Impact]

  * Currently, mounted raid0/md-linear arrays have no indication/warning
when one or more members are removed or suffer from some non-recoverable
error condition. The mdadm tool shows "clean" state regardless if a
  member was removed.

  * The patch proposed in this SRU addresses this issue by introducing a
new state "broken", which is analog to "clean" but indicates that array
is not in a good/correct state. The commit, available upstream as
43ebc910 ("mdadm: Introduce new array state 'broken' for raid0/linear")
[0], was extensively discussed and received a good amount of
reviews/analysis by both the current mdadm maintainer as well as an old
  maintainer.

  * One important note here is that this patch requires a counter-part in the
kernel to be fully functional, which was SRUed in LP: #1847773.
It works fine/transparently without this kernel counter-part though.

  * We had reports of users testing a scenario of failed raid0 arrays, and
getting 'clean' in mdadm proved to cause confusion and doesn't help on
noticing something went wrong with the arrays.

  * The potential situation this patch (with its kernel counter-part)
addresses is: an user has raid0/linear array, and it's mounted. If one
member fails and gets removed (either physically, like a power or
firmware issue, or in software, like a driver-induced removal due to
detected failure), _without_ this patch (and its kernel counter-part)
there's nothing to let user know it failed, except filesystem errors in
dmesg. Also, non-direct writes to the filesystem will succeed, due to
how page-cache/writeback work; even a 'sync' command run will succeed.

  * The case described in above bullet was tested and the writes to failed
devices succeeded - after a reboot, the files written were present in
the array, but corrupted. An user wouldn't noticed that unless if the
writes were directed or some checksum was performed in the files. With
this patch (and its kernel counter-part), the writes to such failed
raid0/linear array are fast-failed and the filesystem goes read-only
  quickly.

  [Test case]

  * To test this patch, create a raid0 or linear md array on Linux using
  mdadm, like: "mdadm --create md0 --level=0 --raid-devices=2 /dev/nvme0n1
  /dev/nvme1n1";

  * Format the array using a FS of your choice (for example ext4) and
  mount the array;

  * Remove one member of the array, for example using sysfs interface (for
  nvme: echo 1 > /sys/block/nvme0n1/device/device/remove, for scsi: echo 1
  > /sys/block/sdX/device/delete);

  * Without this patch, the array state shown by "mdadm --detail" is
"clean", regardless a member is missing/failed.

  [Regression potential]

  * There are mainly two potential regressions here; the first is user-
visible changes introduced by this mdadm patch. The second is if the
patch itself has some unnoticed bug.

  * For the first type of potential regression: this patch introduces a
change in how the array state is displayed in "mdadm --detail "
output for raid0/linear arrays *only*. Currently, the tool shows just 2
states, "clean" or "active". In the patch being SRUed here, this changes
for raid0/linear arrays to read the sysfs array state instead. So for
example, we could read "readonly" state here for raid0/linear if the
user (or some tool) changes the array to such state. This only affects
raid0/linear, the output for other levels didn't change at all.

  * Regarding potential unnoticed issues in the code, we changed mainly
structs and the "detail" command. Structs were incremented with the new
"broken" state and the detail output was changed for raid0/linear as
  discussed in the previous bullet.

  * Note that we *proactively* skipped Xenial SRU here, in order to
prevent potential regressions - Xenial mdadm tool lacks code
infrastructure used by this patch, so the decision was for
safety/stability, by only SRUing Bionic / Disco / Eoan mdadm versions.

  https://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/utils/mdadm/mdadm.git/commit/?id=43ebc910

  [other info]

- As mdadm for focal (20.04) hasn't been merged yet, this will need to be
- added there during or after merge.
+ The last mdadm upload for bug 1850540 added changes that depend on as-
+ yet unreleased kernel changes, and thus blocks any further release of
+ mdadm until the next Bionic point release; see bug 1850540 comment 11.
+ So, this bug (and all future mdadm bugs for Bionic, until the next point
+ release) must include t

[Bug 1857185] Re: install lubuntu 18.04 alongside xubuntu 18.04

2019-12-21 Thread Chris Guiver
Your screenshot appears to be of Xubuntu and not Lubuntu 18.04 LTS the
bug report was about. I would NOT trust your Lubuntu install (or what
this bug report talks about) because of the squashfs errors.

As errors were detected, and whilst most errors are caught, if the
problem includes error detection code then it's possible some remain
undetected (hence the two steps required, ie. (1) validate ISO post
download (https://tutorials.ubuntu.com/tutorial/tutorial-how-to-verify-
ubuntu#0) so in theory error detection code is valid, then (2) validate
write-to-media
(https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Installation/CDIntegrityCheck). Hence
I'd not trust the Lubuntu install mentioned in this report (if it was
me, I'd validate your ISO, re-write to media, check it & re-install).

You can also find help with your problem in the support forum of your
local Ubuntu community http://loco.ubuntu.com/ or asking at
https://askubuntu.com or https://ubuntuforums.org, or for more support
options please look at https://discourse.ubuntu.com/t/community-
support/709

For Lubuntu help I'll suggest https://lubuntu.me/ (click the Forum link
at the top for their forum), or for Xubuntu have a look at
https://xubuntu.org/ but both are official flavors thus you can use any
link found in prior paragraph.

[Bug 1857197] [NEW] an update only did a partial a year ago. have had nothing but problems since package tex-common 6.09 failed to install/upgrade: installed tex-common package post-installation scrip

2019-12-21 Thread Woody
Public bug reported:

I love Ubuntu but would like to have one as close to windows as possible
with features and ease of use so the wife and kids won't complain and
abandon it so much. I've had nothing but problems for the last year
since I did an update. Patches haven't worked. I might resort to the
nuclear option and just burn a new ISO and reformat my hard drive,
losing all my files over the years and start from scratch.

[Bug 1728651] Re: System hangs after iwlwifi firmware crash

2019-12-21 Thread Daniel
Okay, so, I remembered disabling CStates in BIOS as well as the other
Intel speed throttling settings. After re-enabling them, I've been
streaming data for quite a while, and haven't had the iwlwifi driver
crash.

So, "workaround" I guess??

2019-12-21 Thread Mike Gabriel via ubuntu-bugs
I think, this issue needs to be re-assigned and someone needs to provide
updates for x2goclient in all supported Ubuntu releases that have
received the fix for CVE-2019-14889.

This patch needs to be applied on top of X2Go Client:
https://code.x2go.org/gitweb?p=x2goclient.git;a=patch;h=ce559d163a943737fe4160f7233925df2eee1f9a

Public bug reported:

In order to checkout out an old bug report I started gedit, enabled
"Highlight current line" and changed the application theme to "Yaru-
dark" The current line is highlighted correctly but the text is
unreadable because it is too light. The text needs to be much darker.

This is not a theme that I would normally use so I'm not too bothered
about how the problem is fixed but this configuration makes gedit very
difficult to use as you can't actually see the text that you're adding,
changing or deleting.

I would also support a new PCP upstream release to address this or at
least a new updated build for the affected distributions with selected
fixes included (instead of waiting over a month for the next scheduled
PCP release). Thanks.

agree we should ship an early update to fix the install issue - a month
is a long time. However, I think it would first be a good idea to ask
Fernando to test a build from current master branch to if the issues
he's seeing still persist.

[Bug 1850281]

2019-12-21 Thread mgoodwin
Committed an upstream patch that fixes the service timeout reproducer test
posted by Marko in Comment#21, along with a bunch of QA updates.

commit 0f3a1fa7d0d7a898acf2ee4a6f23b626d4fb7362
Author: Mark Goodwin
Date: Wed Nov 13 09:50:57 2019 +1100

logutil: fix pmlogger service timeout on virgin install

RHBZ#1721223 - pmlogger.service: Failed with result 'timeout'
PCP GH#792

Do not invoke pmlogger_daily -K to compress archives from pmlogger_check
on a virgin install - it confuses systemd's Type=forking exit status
checks, resulting in the pmlogger service timing out. There is nothing
to compress anyway!

This fixes the installation issues reported by Marko in BZ#1721223
but does not update the service configs - they are still Type=forking
and so there will still be some (benign) complaints from systemd as
reported in the BZ.

Related QA updates are following.

The above has been pushed to the current master branch (5.0.2 devel), but has
not been built or pushed to any Fedora or Deb/Ubuntu repos.

@Fernando and others, after building and installing latest master branch
with this patch if you're still seeing issues with the pmlogger service
or pmlogger_daily and pmlogger_check scripts failing and/or the pmie
service failing to start then we need to examine your system and
installation. It Works For Me (and Marko tested it too).

Thanks

Oh, I do not need to do separate marking to auto. It seems like the apt
install command retains the auto status even if the auto packages are
listed in command line, if the package which depends on the auto
package, is installed, too. (at least with apt 1.6.12)

[Bug 1857185] Re: install lubuntu 18.04 alongside xubuntu 18.04

2019-12-21 Thread Hany Zarif
Than you very much for your quick relay. When I boot the computer, it
takes so long time to show desktop and HDD was running all the time (I
guess because of partitioning). The HDD has been partitioned
successfully. As you can see at the screenshot I've the new system
already installed in the new partition. But it is not active to boot.
And the new system is not showen in a dual boot menu (as I expect). The
USB I used is the same for the already installed working system. The iso
is from the official website.

[Bug 1797417]

2019-12-21 Thread Bpr-95
(In reply to bpr_95 from comment #47)
> Created attachment 9319 [details]
> Exported panel config

This is how I reproduced the bug on a new panel. Note that compositing
is disabled, but the Enter and Leave bars for Opacity in the Appearance
menu are at 100

1. Add a new Panel, Panel 2
2. In Panel Preferences -> Appearance -> Configure, enable Compositing in the
Window Tweaks menu that opens up
NOTE: The Panel Preferences window closes, the debug log says that segfault
occurred!
Reopen Panel Preferences
3. Back in Panel Preferences ->Appearance, make Enter and Leave bars to 0
4. Now disable Compositing in Window Tweaks
5. Now add items to Panel 2 - say Power Manager and Notifications Area
6. Close the Panel Pref. menu, and kill xfce4-panel
7. Restart xfce4-panel, and for me, Panel 2 is blank

To make the plugins on Panel 2 reappear,
1. Open Panel Preferences, go to Panel 2
2. In Panel Preferences -> Appearance -> Configure, enable Compositing in the
Window Tweaks menu that opens up
3. Make Enter and Leave bars to 100
4. Disable Compositing
5. Plugins on Panel 2 should appear even after killing and restarting
xfce4-panel

I have attached the exported panel config also

[Bug 1850904] Re: ubuntu_seccomp failed with X/B/D s390x / PPC

2019-12-21 Thread Leo Le Bouter
I am building software in CI on ppc64el and I am met with a variant of
this issue.

https://gitlab.com/chromium-ppc64le/ungoogled-chromium/-/jobs/384098505

What I am building requires the system calls: __NR_shmat __NR_shmctl __NR_shmdt
__NR_shmget
and it seems they are not present in , for some reason.

Here's the recipe: https://gitlab.com/chromium-ppc64le/ungoogled-
chromium-ci-docker-
image/blob/5db632353a7d8d57b583fc907aaf2985c1bc192a/Dockerfile

I tried on both bionic and disco, same issue.

[Bug 1853804] Re: kubuntu-driver-manager never finishes collecting infomation

2019-12-21 Thread Zvi Baratz
I have the same issue (with the same general system setup).
I found a Stack Exchange answer with a solution that works between reboots,
which is to run `update-apt-xapian-index` (see
https://askubuntu.com/a/766689/753115), hope it might help in figuring out the
underlying cause and find a permanent solution.

[Bug 1857185] Re: install lubuntu 18.04 alongside xubuntu 18.04

2019-12-21 Thread Chris Guiver
Thank you for taking the time to report this issue and helping to make
Ubuntu better.

This package failure looks like it was caused by bad ISO download,
corrupted install media, or device failure. eg. look in the logs and
you'll see messages like these :-

Dec 21 06:37:24 lubuntu kernel: [ 1286.894666] SQUASHFS error: zlib
decompression failed, data probably corrupt
Dec 21 06:37:24 lubuntu kernel: [ 1286.894681] SQUASHFS error:
squashfs_read_data failed to read block 0x177be846

Examining the information you have given us, this does not appear to be
a useful bug report so I am closing it, as it appears to be a bad ISO or
faulty device (inc. bad write-to-device). If you believe I'm in error,
please leave a comment explaining why and change the status back to
'New'. I suggest you verify your ISO download, and use the 'check disc
for defects' option to validate your media before install to ensure a
good download & write.

Possibly useful : https://tutorials.ubuntu.com/tutorial/tutorial-how-to-
verify-ubuntu#0 and
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Installation/CDIntegrityCheck

(Note: CD refers to your install media; or where you wrote the ISO file.
It can be a CD/DVD/HDD/SSD/thumb-drive; ie. your install media)

[Bug 1857185] [NEW] install lubuntu 18.04 alongside xubuntu 18.04

2019-12-21 Thread Hany Zarif
Public bug reported:

I have made a full install bootable USB flash drive for lubuntu 18.04.
The problem happened after trying to partition the HDD (80 GB IDE). It
said something about CD/DVD is not clean (IDE), which I'm not using to
install and is not faulty as it works well with xubuntu. Terminal
shortcut (Ctrl+Alt+T) not working. I'm in the mid-way of installation,
which is not completed. So I can't attach the files /var/log/syslog and
/var/log/partman. As I have to reboot the system, to access my xubuntu
(hopefully, keep my fingers crossed). Installation crashed.
