please do, the other bug does mention that mesa master works, but there
have been no changes to that file other than a single commit which
doesn't look related..

Yes. Re-installed. uname reports 5.5.0. and the screen is back to
the red raster diagonal mess.

This is correct. Setting i915.modeset=0 will disable the Intel graphics
driver so you should not do that.

What are you trying to achieve?

[Bug 1834290] Re: Incorrect physical size detected for LG 43UD79-B

2020-01-23 Thread Daniel van Vugt
Using the EDID data your monitor reports in the Xrandr.txt attachment above I
get the same answer
of 60x34cm so that is what the hardware is advertising itself as. Indeed that
would make it 27.15 inches diagonal.

So this is a bug IN your hardware, sorry. You might be able to get a
firmware update from LG. Most likely they are using the same firmware in
their 27" monitors and forgot to change the dimensions for your 43"
model.

[Bug 1860755] [NEW] [MIR] enchant-2

2020-01-23 Thread Sebastien Bacher
Public bug reported:

The enchant-2 package is a new version of enchant which is already in
main. The package has been renamed by the Debian maintainer to be make
co-installable with the previous version and ease transition.

Debian has started the enchant to enchant-2 migration now and we are
interested in doing that transition before the LTS so we are going to
promote enchant-2 now and will demote enchant to universe when we are
over the transition (before the end of the cycle)

Doesn't look like it - uname returned 4.16.0-74-generic #84-Ubuntu SMP.

May have overlaid the new generic by running APT upgrade. I'll try
re-installing.

OTOH, I tried APT update and upgrade after the installation didn't
change things and I did get a screen change. Attached is a post-restart
screenshot.

[Bug 1860745] Re: package hyphen-en-ca 0.10 failed to install/upgrade: package is in a very bad inconsistent state; you should reinstall it before attempting configuration

2020-01-23 Thread Chris Guiver
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better.

Bug reporting is about finding & fixing problems thus preventing future
users from hitting the same bug. You seem to need support more than have
issues with a bug

I believe a Support site may be more appropriate, eg.
https://answers.launchpad.net/ubuntu (this bug report can be converted
to a question (which is aimed at support)). You can also find help with
your problem in the support forum of your local Ubuntu community
http://loco.ubuntu.com/ or asking at https://askubuntu.com or
https://ubuntuforums.org, or for more support options please look at
https://discourse.ubuntu.com/t/community-support/709

2020-01-23 Thread Paul Collinsworth
I thought that might be the case, and looked in a couple of the /var
subdirectories and didn't see dkms. I may run a more exhaustive search
before trying the new linux install. I'll be doing that within an hour
or so; had to be out most of the day on other business.

At the moment the system with the fault is backing up a bunch of work
files. I have another drive on the system and may install 18.04.3 if the
issue doesn't resolve with the new linux install (that alternate drive
is just sitting there with 16.04 and hasn't been in use).

Hi

As an user, I would really like to be able to more easily make
application folders from the overview. My idea, would be to
automatically creating them by drag and drop, if the app is dropped on
top of another app, or add the dropped app to a folder if it is dropped
on it..

This could have some advantages:

1 - It would make it more easy for the user to sort his apps (for example, by
putting all his games in a folder)
2 - The user would be able to more easily find his app, especially if this app
don't provide keyword (it happen), and/or that he don't know the name anymore.

As I'm not a designer, I don't know how to make a draft, but if you have
question on my idea, feel free to ask.

This has been discussed several times before - the main issue is that
drag-and-drop is awkward with pagination (and in particular when taking
multiple monitors into account).

Perhaps a right-click action could work. You can right-click on a
application icon and select "Add to favorites"... is an "Add to folder"
option viable?

Mmh, I'd say it depends - if gnome-software gives us a way to leverage
the existing UI for that (like it does for the "Show Details" item),
this would be very viable. I wouldn't want to reimplement the exact same
UI in the shell (using a different toolkit and the constraint that we
cannot use actual windows ...)

Thanks for the bug report.

It would be easiest for us to identify the cause of this problem if we
had a clean log covering just the period of time when it happened. To do
that please:

1. Reboot the machine.

2. Reproduce the bug and do nothing else.

3. Immediately run these commands:

   dmesg > dmesg.txt
   journalctl -b0 > journal.txt

4. Attach the above two text files to this bug.

I think that being able to put folders on the favorite bar could be a
great idea.

Be doing so, a user that use a lot of different apps could make sure
that his favorites icon wouldn't shrink too much.

Adding an option to add non-favorites running apps in a dynamic folder,
that appear/disappear depending on the number of running apps, could
also help.

The overview (and the app launcher in particular) were discussed at the
UX hackfest in London last month. The design isn't quite final yet, but
there are some fixtures:

 - the app picker will contain a user-defined favorite area that allows
grouping in folder (including folder creation/management directly in
gnome-shell)

 - this will replace the existing dash altogether (that is, we will
remove the dash sidebar once those designs are implemented)

Those changes should address the main issues in this bug (more available
space for favorites, plus grouping in folders), and render the remaining
one obsolete (grouping of running apps in dash), so closing.

[Bug 1860204] Re: [nvidia] GNOME3 notification background layer paints over notification text if mouse is moved in notification area

2020-01-23 Thread Daniel van Vugt
You can't tell, if it's working properly. You also can't disable it
because a software cursor is only used when the hardware cursor doesn't
work. The only other alternative would be no mouse pointer at all :)

[Bug 1853199] Re: Ctrl + c (copy) anywhere some times crashes gnome session

2020-01-23 Thread Daniel van Vugt
Thanks. I can't find any usable info in that log right now, other than
it was only yesterday that you deleted /var/crash/* so best to just wait
for the next crash file from gnome-shell. Then follow comment #5 again.

Please also remember to keep the changes in comment #14.

[Bug 1640514] Re: /snap/bin is not added to the PATH when using zsh

2020-01-23 Thread Jimmy Merrild Krag
I jumped the gun a bit. What I ment was to write that sourcing
/etc/profile.d/apps-bin-path.sh fixes commands being available again. I
have the following in my .zshrc:

if [ "$XDG_SESSION_TYPE" = "wayland" ] ; then

...other wayland fixes...

# Fix environment for Wayland + zsh + snapd
if [ -f "/etc/profile.d/apps-bin-path.sh" ] ; then
source /etc/profile.d/apps-bin-path.sh

[Bug 1860690] Re: Smartpqi updates for 18.04.4

2020-01-23 Thread Jeff Lane
** Description changed:

  [Impact]
Most Ubuntu customers prefer the simplicity of using inbox drivers over
out-of-box drivers Microsemi provides. To do that well, we should keep that
inbox driver moving forward. If we don't land the updates in 18.04.4 customers
would be waiting until ~ August 2020 for the 18.04.5 update.

Microsemi have asked to have them pulled into 5.3 to update the SmartPQI
  driver that we carry.

  [Fixes]
The following patches are in 5.4 Mainline and also our Focal tree are all
clean cherry picks into 5.3.

  391a24179423 scsi: smartpqi: bump version
  48edb8780100 scsi: smartpqi: update copyright
63a7956ae1e8 scsi: smartpqi: add new pci ids
9946a3987248 scsi: smartpqi: correct REGNEWD return status
71ecc60d9ba4 scsi: smartpqi: add gigabyte controller
530dd8a7a2b1 scsi: smartpqi: correct hang when deleting 32 lds
2d2ad4bc724e scsi: smartpqi: add bay identifier
6d90615f1346 scsi: smartpqi: add sysfs entries
522bc026f013 scsi: smartpqi: add module param to hide vsep
8bdb3b9c67c5 scsi: smartpqi: add pci ids for fiberhome controller
5e6a9760f7da scsi: smartpqi: add module param for exposure order

All are clean cherry-picks into Eoan/master-next from 5.4 and do not
touch anything outside of Microsemi's smartpqi driver.

These have been cherry picked into my branch found here:

https://code.launchpad.net/~bladernr/ubuntu/+source/linux/+git/eoan/+ref/1860690-smartpqi-updates-master-next

  [Testing]
-
+ Tested by upstream

  [Regression Risk]
Low, these are updates and bug fixes from the upstream maintainer and have
already been tested by the upstream on Ubuntu.

[Bug 1860733] [NEW] FTBFS on s390x for Focal

Because of an issue building on s390x:

[Bug 1860733] [NEW] FTBFS on s390x for Focal

2020-01-23 Thread Rafael David Tinoco
Public bug reported:

Excuses show:

frr (6.0.2-2build2 to 7.2-1build1)
Maintainer: David Lamparter
Section: universe/misc
8 days old
missing build on s390x: frr, frr-rpki-rtrlib, frr-snmp (from 6.0.2-2build2)
Depends: frr net-snmp
Not considered

Because of an issue building on s390x:

BUILD: https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/frr/7.2-1build1/+build/18565322
LOG:
https://launchpadlibrarian.net/461201011/buildlog_ubuntu-focal-s390x.frr_7.2-1build1_BUILDING.txt.gz

It appears that test_typelist.py is having issues with s390x

[Bug 1847075] Re: xfreerdp fails with Windows 10 terminal server

2020-01-23 Thread Jakko
I'm affected too. I'm on Linux Mint 19.3 MATE (amd64) which is based on
Ubuntu 18.04. Connecting to a Windows 10 machine and Windows Server 2019
fails. Connecting to a Ubuntu 18.04 server works, however.

freerdp2-x11 version: 2.0.0~git20170725.1.1648deb+dfsg1-7ubuntu0.1
openssh-client version: 1:7.6p1-4ubuntu0.3
openssl version: 1.1.1-1ubuntu2.1~18.04.5
kernel: 5.3.0-26-generic

This is how I try to connect:

Terminal 1
$ ssh -L [localport]:[server]:[port] [username]@[ssh-server]

Terminal 2
$ xfreerdp /v:localhost /port:[localport] /u:[username] /network:modem
/kbd:german /f

It was working until a few weeks ago (Windows 10 and Windows Server 2008
R2, wheras the Windows Server 2019 was not existing back then). I'm not
aware of packages related to this issue being updated on the client
machine (Linux Mint 19.3). I know that there has been updates on the
Windows 10 machine. It could be related to a Windows update
(speculative).

I worked around it by adding cosmic to sources.list.d (main and
universe) and apt-pinning the 4 packages freerdp2-x11, libfreerdp-
client2-2, libfreerdp2-2, libwinpr2-2 to the version
2.0.0~git20180411.1.7a7b1802+dfsg1-2. I chose this version because in
newer versions the libfreerdp... packages depend on libc6 >= 2.28 which
would have had a too big impact (currently installed version of libc6
is 2.27-3ubuntu1).

The output of the working version ist:
$ xfreerdp /v:localhost /port:[localport] /u:[username] /network:modem
/kbd:german /f
