[Bug 1863128] [NEW] focal: php-mbstring has broken dependency on libonig4

2020-02-13 Thread RichardNeill
Public bug reported:

php7.4-mbstring : Depends: libonig4 (>= 5.9.5) but it is not installable

On further investigation, focal ships with libonig5.

Just as a bit of debugging, if I force it to install with --ignore-depends
PHP Warning: PHP Startup: Unable to load dynamic library 'mbstring.so' (tried:
/usr/lib/php/20190902/mbstring.so (libonig.so.4: cannot open shared object

and then ln -s libonig.so.5 libonig.so.4
then it seems to function OK

these are the affected packages (which are current as of 13 Feb 2020)

This does not avoid a collision with cloud-init. That is, the current
implementation
is to modify the arguments passed to sshd instead of making changes to sshd
config.
Multiple sources of configuration is still an issue. Someone inspecting
sshd config will
not see that the AuthorizedKeyCommand is being passed via arguments,
further they
may not know where this additional override is coming from w.r.t the
systemd drop-in
config. If a user (or program via cloud-init config) were to modify sshd
config and
set their own AuthorizedKeyCommand, this scenario will fail for them since
the
ec2-instance-connect drop in will always take precedence.

Shouldn't the drop-in program examine sshd config?

Could you elaborate (or point to documentation) on this merging? I'm
familiar
with how AuthorizedKeyCommand works if it does not produce any output, sshd
will fall back to AuthorizedKey files specifiedin sshd_config; but I've not
seen any
discussion on the merging you suggest.

The response is dismissive; security and usability override any concern
around
overhead of the "security" feature. This reinforces the need to benchmark
the
actual overhead per connection with synthetic and actual workloakds (I
suspect
something like a juju deployment to Ec2 of something like k8s or the like
mode
with lots of instances would be a reasonable workload to compare with and
without
the instance connect enabled.

But nothing changed, i still need "load-module module-alsa-source

How can i see which ucm files getting loaded by Alsa ?

[Bug 1863123] [NEW] Fail to connect bug still persists - Removal tool???

2020-02-13 Thread Joel Chosta
Public bug reported:

Any help in removing this bug that randomly mimics connection failure.
After x-Diagnose program and reporting this bug, it clears out but
always reappears later again and again. Is there a removal tool or
program that can clear it out for good? I appreciate any tips or
help that I can get. Thank you for your time in reading this report.

[Bug 1863001] Re: Incorrect LAYOUT is set when choosing Lithuanian in dpkg-reconfigure keyboard-configuration and Ubiquity

2020-02-13 Thread Mantas Kriaučiūnas
This patch replaces not intuitive secondary lt(us) layout with us(altgr-
intl), which uses majority of Lithuanian users as secondary layout.

** Patch added: "Patch against
console-setup-1.194ubuntu2/debian/keyboard-configuration.config - fixes LT
layout"

https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/console-setup/+bug/1863001/+attachment/5328000/+files/keyboard-configuration.config-LT-layout.patch

** Description changed:

  If user chooses Lithuanian keyboard layout during installation
  (Ubiquity) or dpkg-reconfigure keyboard-configuration then incorrect
  layout is set in /etc/default/keyboard :

  XKBLAYOUT="lt,lt"
  XKBVARIANT=",us"

  This configuration is not intuitive, because people think, that
  sometimes Lithuanian keyboard works (when lt1 is selected in GNOME shell
  panel) and sometimes doesn't work (when lt2 is selected).

  So, majority of Lithuanian users are force to removed second lt(us)
  layout and add English (US) altgr-intl layout.

  So, correct /etc/default/keyboard should be:

  XKBMODEL="pc105"
  XKBLAYOUT="lt,us"
  XKBVARIANT=",altgr-intl"
  XKBOPTIONS="grp_led:scroll"
  BACKSPACE="guess"

- I will attach a patch to debian/keyboard-configuration.config file which
+ I'm attaching a patch to debian/keyboard-configuration.config file which
  fixes this issue

** Tags added: patch

** Summary changed:

- Incorrect LAYOUT is set when choosing Lithuanian in dpkg-reconfigure
keyboard-configuration and Ubiquity
+ [PATCH] Incorrect LAYOUT is set when choosing Lithuanian in dpkg-reconfigure
keyboard-configuration and Ubiquity

  I tried many methods to fix it, but I definitely think it's the kernel

[Bug 1245473] Re: Binding ctrl+shift, alt+shift, etc for switching keyboard layout makes shortcuts with ctrl+shift, etc not working in any program

2020-02-13 Thread Oded Arbel
A. Major kudos to nrbrtx for maintaining the patched Xorg PPA - this was a life
saver, and I don't believe it was mentioned enough.
B. Is this still an issue?

Currently - on beta focal, I am using Xorg from Ubuntu (without
Norbert's PPA) on KDE Plasma 5.18, and I don't see to have this problem:
I have ALT+SHIFT bound to layout change (`setxkbmap -option
grp:alt_shift_toggle`), and ALT+SHIFT changes language while
ALT+SHIFT+ triggers shortcut (I use Eclipse which defaults to a
lot of ALT+SHIFT-* shortcuts).

Is anyone on focal or eoan still have this problem (when using Ubuntu or
upstream xorg)?

Thanks for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu

to be a "regular" (non-security) bug. I have unmarked it as a security
issue since this bug does not show evidence of allowing attackers to
cross privilege boundaries nor directly cause loss of data/privacy.

[Bug 1155216] Re: Unable to umount /isodevice when using grub loopback method

2020-02-13 Thread Michel-Ekimia
** Description changed:

+ How to quickly reproduce :
+
+ - From a Linux distro installed (Ubuntu 18.04 here)
+ - Install grml  : sudo apt install grml-rescueboot
+ - Get Focal iso : wget -0 /boot/grml/focal.iso
http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/daily-live/current/focal-desktop-amd64.iso
+ - add toram option  :  echo ' CUSTOM_BOOTOPTIONS="toram" ' | sudo tee -a
/etc/default/grml-rescueboot
+ - Generate the Grub entry : sudo update-grub
+ - Reboot and select the Grub entry for the iso
+ - Start the Ubuntu installation : Ubiquity ask if it should try to umount
/isodevice - You accept - But patitioning fails anyway .
+
+
+ See https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Grub2/ISOBoot for more info
+
+
+ --- Initial report
+
  When installing from an iso file, with grub's loopback option, Ubiquity
  displays a message stating the isodevice cannot be unmounted, even when
  the isofile is not located on the same harddrive as the installation
  target.

  sudo umount -l -r -f /isodevice

  solves this problem, so Ubiquity should be able to issue this command by
  itself, without any user action.

issue since this bug does not show evidence of allowing attackers to
cross privilege boundaries nor directly cause loss of data/privacy.
Please feel free to report any other bugs you may find.

It's btw the same for all "crossbuild-essential-*" packages.
And it seems to be the same on Eoan, but works on Bionic.

I ran into this because I want to do a kernel test compile with a changed
kernel option.
After modifying kernel options one needs to run "fakeroot debian/rules
updateconfigs"
and at some point in time the CROSS_COMPILE setting became needed to address
architecture-dependent tests in Kconfig options. Hence cross toolchains are now
required.

[Bug 1855409] Re: qede driver causes 100% CPU load

2020-02-13 Thread Guilherme G. Piccoli
Thank you Khaled! I've just checked the source from bionic-proposed
(4.15.0-88) and the patch is there, as expected - I've verified that
comparing with the upstream patch, it's all correct.

Given we don't have the HW and the bug reporter seems to be unable to
verify it (and the patch is self-contained/straightforward), we can
consider it ready to go!

Cheers,

Guilherme
