[Bug 1410558] Re: ps doesn't support "thcount" format specifier on Xenial

2020-02-15 Thread Heitor Alves de Siqueira
** Description changed:

  [Impact]
- ps -o thcount doesn't print out an error (error: unknown user-defined format
specifier "thcount")
+ ps -o thcount prints out an error (error: unknown user-defined format
specifier "thcount")

  [Description]
The Xenial version of procps has a bug in the thcount format specifier. ps
doesn't recognize it, and complains about an unknown user-defined format.
This is due to the format specifier table in ps/output.c, which is queried
with a binary search. Since the "thcount" entry appears out of order in Xenial,
it can't be looked up and the program fails with the "unknown user-defined
format specifier" error.

This has been fixed upstream by the commit below:
  - Fix for Bug:1174313 (3a52dfa34027)

  $ git describe --contains 3a52dfa34027
  v3.3.12~58^2

  $ rmadison procps
- procps | 2:3.3.10-4ubuntu2 | xenial | source, ...
- procps | 2:3.3.10-4ubuntu2.4 | xenial-security | source, ...
- procps | 2:3.3.10-4ubuntu2.4 | xenial-updates | source, ... <
- procps | 2:3.3.12-3ubuntu1 | bionic | source, ...
- procps | 2:3.3.12-3ubuntu1.1 | bionic-security | source, ...
- procps | 2:3.3.12-3ubuntu1.2 | bionic-updates | source, ...
+  procps | 2:3.3.10-4ubuntu2 | xenial | source, ...
+  procps | 2:3.3.10-4ubuntu2.4 | xenial-security | source, ...
+  procps | 2:3.3.10-4ubuntu2.4 | xenial-updates | source, ... <
+  procps | 2:3.3.12-3ubuntu1 | bionic | source, ...
+  procps | 2:3.3.12-3ubuntu1.1 | bionic-security | source, ...
+  procps | 2:3.3.12-3ubuntu1.2 | bionic-updates | source, ...

Releases starting with Bionic already have this fix, so it's only needed
  for Xenial.

  [Test case]
  1. Boot up a Xenial environment with e.g. an lxd container:
  # lxc launch images:ubuntu/xenial xenial

  2. Execute ps with the '-o thcount' options:
  # lxc exec xenial -- ps -o thcount
error: unknown user-defined format specifier "thcount"

  Usage:
- ps [options]
+  ps [options]

- Try 'ps --help '
- or 'ps --help '
- for additional help text.
+  Try 'ps --help '
+   or 'ps --help '
+  for additional help text.

  For more details see ps(1).

  [Regression Potential]
The fix just fixes the order of two entries in the format specifier array, so
the regression potential is very low. Furthermore, the patch has been present
and tested in up-to-date versions of procps since Bionic. Any new regressions
introduced in Xenial will be checked with autopkgtest.

  [Original Description]
In Ubuntu 12.04.5 LTS (procps 1:3.2.8-11ubuntu6.3), the following worked fine:

  $ export PS_FORMAT=thcount
  $ ps
  THCNT
  1
  1

In Ubuntu 14.04.1 LTS (procps 1:3.3.9-1ubuntu2), it does not work
  anymore:

  $ export PS_FORMAT=thcount
  $ ps
warning: $PS_FORMAT ignored. (unknown user-defined format specifier "thcount")
    PID TTY TIME CMD
   6593 pts/100:00:00 ps
  16633 pts/100:00:00 bash

Other PS_FORMAT specifiers still work fine (I have tried many, but not
  all).

In real-life usage, a more complex PS_FORMAT would of course be used,
  such as

PS_FORMAT=pid,s,thcount,nice,euser,egroup,etime,cputime,%mem,rssize:6,size:7,vsize:7,command

Workaround: use nlwp instead of thcount (they are alias to the same
data, and nlwp works fine in both versions).

[Bug 1862875] Re: telegram version in ubuntu repo is EOL by upstream

2020-02-15 Thread Graham Inggs
Given there's a snap available:
https://snapcraft.io/telegram-desktop
and Ubuntu 20.04 LTS will be released soon, I'm marking this bug "Won't Fix".

This doesn't prevent anyone from preparing on a backport for 18.04
though.

[Bug 1845689] Re: Bluetooth loops when pairing Connecting MPOW T5 headset

2020-02-15 Thread Johnny Ooi
My only backup image was from 17.10, running kernel Kernel
4.13.0-46-generic.

I stand corrected on the earbud model. It was an MPOW Flame that time,
and not an MPOW T5/M5 model

Nonetheless, even in the 17.10 backup image, bluetooth restarts.

However, unlike in Disco, my earbuds actually manage to connect. The
connection does drop after a couple of seconds, however.

Also, I did find something that may be of relevance.

I have an old USB Bluetooth dongle. And I plugged that in, and then used
Blueman-manager to switch to that adapter and pair my earbuds -- and it
works.

Does this help further debugging?

[Bug 1862437] Re: Ubuntu 16.10 & later, & derivatives do not query the assigned DNS server

2020-02-15 Thread Bruce Goodman
My sincere apologies, I have been wasting your time !

The Ubuntu and derivatives distributions that use systemd-resolved do
indeed query the assigned DNS. I verified this by stopping the
DNSMASQ service, which resulted in the loss of external name resolution.
Turning the service on again restored resolution of internet domain
names.

There is still an issue in distributions using systemd-resolved with
resolution of LAN host names. As shown above resolution of a simple
host name, in my examples BGOWIKI01v, fails. But when I add a 2nd name
for that host to the /etc/hosts file on my DNSMASQ machine, with a
suffix that looks like a domain name, like BGOWIKI01v.somedomain.local I
can resolve the name correctly using the nslookup command.

The solution for my reported issue will be to migrate my home LAN away
an old-fashioned Workgroup model, to something that looks like a domain.

Regards
Bruce Goodman

[Bug 1860512] Re: Suspend unreliable (possibly FUSE related)

2020-02-15 Thread Michał Sawicz
This came back with bug #1863411.

** Changed in: linux (Ubuntu)
   Status: Incomplete => Confirmed

** Tags added: apport-collected staging

** Description changed:

Since updating to Focal my laptop stopped suspending reliably. It will
sit there either without display or with the desktop stuck for almost a
minute before it goes back to work again.

Looking at the kernel logs this seems to be related to a FUSE mount that

[Bug 1863437] [NEW] [focal] pacemaker i386 should drop a few i386 only packages

2020-02-15 Thread Rafael David Tinoco
Public bug reported:

When executing pacemaker i386 autopkgtests I realized that package
"resource-agents" wasn't available for i386. When discussing this with
@vorlon we came into the conclusion that some i386 only cluster packages
could be removed from the repository, towards the effort of having *only
the essential* packages available in i386 (to be run together with an
amd64 host).

IRC log:

"""
 resource-agents i386 binary package
the pacemaker binary is /not/ present on i386 in the release pocket
that may have been an overly aggressive removal
vorlon: are u keeping pacemaker because of dependencies ?
yeah, I removed it when I shouldn't have
(https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/focal/i386/pacemaker)
rafaeldtinoco: pacemaker-dev is a build-dep of something else we need,
see the referenced germinate output for full details

https://people.canonical.com/~ubuntu-archive/germinate-
output/i386.focal/i386+build-depends

 pacemaker-dev is a build-dep of dlm
and libesmtp-dev is a build-dep of pacemaker, not the other way around
 (and dlm is a build-dep of lvm2)
 ah gotcha
 dlm -> corosync -> pacemaker
so, even though I removed the binary in error from the release pocket,
the right answer is still for pacemaker/i386 binary to go away (leaving only the
-dev and lib packages)

do you want me to fix that up, or do you want to?
to fix that we should do like we did to samba ?
 yeah

looks like the binaries you'll need to drop are pacemaker,
pacemaker-cli-utils, pacemaker-remote
and I'll remove those from -proposed right now, so that those don't
hold up migration

but I'll hold off on adding the hint until they're dropped from the
source
deal, and next hint ill do with proper branch

The work around indeed worked for me but when I tried to recover my

[Bug 1862938] Re: Enable late loading of microcode by default

2020-02-15 Thread Dimitri John Ledkov
I'm trying to fix the case when users/manufacturers failed to
provide/install uefi capsule update on the motherboard, failed to first-
boot with up to date microcode, and thus remain unsecured, whilst one
can install microcode. In bare-metal cloud context, late loading of
microcode can be done as the line of last defence to apply microcode.

[Bug 1863437] [NEW] [focal] pacemaker i386 should drop a few i386 only packages

2020-02-15 Thread Rafael David Tinoco
Public bug reported:

When executing pacemaker i386 autopkgtests I realized that package
"resource-agents" wasn't available for i386. When discussing this with
@vorlon we came into the conclusion that some i386 only cluster packages
could be removed from the repository, towards the effort of having *only
the essential* packages available in i386 (to be run together with an
amd64 host).

IRC log:

"""
 resource-agents i386 binary package
the pacemaker binary is /not/ present on i386 in the release pocket
that may have been an overly aggressive removal
vorlon: are u keeping pacemaker because of dependencies ?
yeah, I removed it when I shouldn't have
(https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/focal/i386/pacemaker)
rafaeldtinoco: pacemaker-dev is a build-dep of something else we need,
see the referenced germinate output for full details

https://people.canonical.com/~ubuntu-archive/germinate-
output/i386.focal/i386+build-depends

 pacemaker-dev is a build-dep of dlm
and libesmtp-dev is a build-dep of pacemaker, not the other way around
 (and dlm is a build-dep of lvm2)
 ah gotcha
 dlm -> corosync -> pacemaker
so, even though I removed the binary in error from the release pocket,
the right answer is still for pacemaker/i386 binary to go away (leaving only the
-dev and lib packages)

do you want me to fix that up, or do you want to?
to fix that we should do like we did to samba ?
 yeah

looks like the binaries you'll need to drop are pacemaker,
pacemaker-cli-utils, pacemaker-remote
and I'll remove those from -proposed right now, so that those don't
hold up migration

but I'll hold off on adding the hint until they're dropped from the
source
deal, and next hint ill do with proper branch

[Bug 1863422] Re: Unity doesn't start in focal

2020-02-15 Thread Rod Smith
apport information

** Tags added: apport-collected focal third-party-packages ubuntu

** Description changed:

My system has been upgraded through several Ubuntu versions, and I'm now
  (15 Feb 2020) on a pre-release version of Ubuntu 20.04 (Focal Fossa).
I've been using Unity on this system since Ubuntu's installation years
ago, and it's worked fine, including when I first installed the pre-
release Ubuntu 20.04 a week or two ago. I updated packages on 13 Feb or
14 Feb, however. Now, when I log in, I get nothing but a blank screen --
no window manager or desktop environment appears to be running. I'm able
to open a Terminal by right-clicking on the (black) desktop and
selecting "run from Terminal" from the list of options, and I can then
start icewm -- but I need to use the "--replace" option because icewm
thinks a window manager IS running, even though the windows have no
widgets or other ways to control them. (I've been using X since pre-
Linux days, so I know what X without a window manager looks like, and to
  all appearances, this is it.)

2020-02-15 Thread Nick Niehoff
I have tested:

vanilla Focal instance
Focal with openvswitch
bionic juju machine
bionic openstack nova-cloud-controller (openstack plugins need some work)
bionic ceph (new plugin additions look good)
bionic maas 2.6 ... commissioning-results is not a valid MAAS command plugin
needs work

2020-02-15 Thread jscm
I have no problem on my ubuntu installation.

But this file with another one (or more) of GNU C are still not ready to
be updated.

I am waiting for days now. This situation begins to worry.

I hope to see every problem solved soon.

Noting once again that I am still having this problem. I am worried
because no one seems to be working on it or have any idea how to work
around it (other than by disconnecting the cable from my computer to the

[Bug 1742193] Re: nemo-desktop does not show background on GNOME FlashBack session

2020-02-15 Thread Uriel Tunn
Thanks @Norbert. Confirming this bug is still present in the latest
18.04 release and your workaround still fixes it.

Actually spent many hours trying to do this "properly," both directly
and by searching. Nothing worked and found no solution.

Two thoughts:
- The key seems to be modifying the Nautilus shortcut to call Nemo instead.

- This is the last bit of integration needed FWICT; seems so simple
can't believe it's not done yet!

Sad the Nautilus team gutted it back when Unity was coming on. It was
the very best file manager in the Linux world IMO. Still is, but under
the Nemo banner (albeit lacking the dual location bars in dual pane
mode). Very grateful to the Nemo team for carrying it forward.

Would very much like to see Nemo adopted by Gnome, eliminate these
workarounds.

[Bug 1863449] [NEW] upgrade 19.04 to 19.10 - problem with repo - cannot upgrade

Public bug reported:

 This was likely caused by:

If none of this applies, then please report this bug using the command

You may need the user info for the actual user name that is being used
to search that work group. I would recommend using the path or query
component instead:

smb://userwg;user:password@/browsed_workgroup
smb://userwg;user:password@/?=search=browsed_workgroup

This searches the workgroup named "browsed_workgroup" with the user
"userwg\user".

The query has the added benefit a server inside the workgroup is a
proper sub-URL:

smb://userwg;user:password@server/share/folder/file.txt?search=browsed_workgroup

That is,

  QUrl wg("smb://user@/?search=WG");
  QUrl relative("/share/folder/file.txt");
  qDebug() << wg.resolved(relative);  //
"smb://user@/share/folder/file.txt?search=WG"

[Bug 340106]

2020-02-15 Thread Harald Sitter
Thanks.

With that in mind we cannot really support spaces while also following
the smb URI format [1]. I suppose we'll just have to deviate a bit iff
the workgroup name contains a space by using a variant of the notation
that stuffs the workgroup into the userinfo `smb://work group;@/` and
then translate that back to an smb URI for libsmbclient again. Means the
urls wont be portable but at least navigation within our tech works.

QUrl's behaviour is intentional. The hostname component of the URL has
to be a valid hostname.

Do not store anything in that component that is not a hostname. Like a
workgroup name. Store that elsewhere.
