[Bug 1863672] Re: The 'new' persistent live method starting in 19.10 no longer works

2020-03-02 Thread sudodus
@Michael Hudson-Doyle,

The bug might not appear in your VM.

I think a very very detailed instruction to do what I did is to

1. Work in *buntu 18.04.x LTS which is updated and full-upgraded to be
up to date

2. Install mkusb-plug according to comment #14

3. zsync any current Ubuntu desktop Focal daily iso file (Lubuntu and
Xubuntu have the smallest iso files). You may want to try with a
corresponding Ubuntu 19.10 iso file to see how it should work.

4. I have several brand names and sizes of USB pendrives, but I often
use Sandisk Extreme 16 GB. The bug appears with different brand names
and sizes, so I think you will get similar results with the USB
pendrives that are available.

5. Use mkusb-plug to create a persistent live drive in a USB pendrive.
There is a wizard-style user interface, and I think you will use it the
right way. Otherwise you can ask.

6. Move the pendrive to another computer and boot it. For me it will
boot live-only, but after re-labeling the drive to 'writable' and reboot
there will be persistence. The bug appears both in the old style BIOS
mode and UEFI mode.

As described earlier, this bug appeared some weeks ago. Persistence
works with 19.10 and with Focal with casper version 1.438build1 when
using the old style label 'casper-rw'.

[Bug 1862822] Re: init_on_alloc=1 causes big performance regression for ZFS

2020-03-02 Thread Thadeu Lima de Souza Cascardo
Hi, Mr. Ahrens.

For now, I am not yet convinced about removing the init_on_alloc default
option. I would agree if anyone argues that a page recycling mechanism
defeats the purpose of the option anyway. But it would, at least, be
restricted to whatever uses such mechanisms. (I am familiar with some
network drivers that do.)

I hope it's at least useful for you to know what we are leaning torwards
here.

Regards.
Cascardo.

[Bug 1861601] Re: Memory leak and incorrect behaviour of generated bindings

2020-03-02 Thread Matthijs
Hi Dmitry,

Please check the attached patch compared to the 4.17 tag. This should
provide the solution for 16.04. The diff is in the original mercurial
sip repo, https://www.riverbankcomputing.com/hg/sip. But is should be
applicable to the git repo.

The previous patch missed 2 lines. Therefore the update

[Bug 1742941] Re: zlib: improve crc32 performance on P8

2020-03-02 Thread Frank Heimes
The crc32 performance optimization for P8 were added to zlib version
1.2.11.dfsg-2ubuntu1 (thx to doko) and landed already in proposed:
"zlib | 1:1.2.11.dfsg-2ubuntu1  | focal-proposed  | source"
Hence changing the status of this ticket to Fix Committed.

@rbalint,

Testing has indicated that a sleep of at least 1 is needed, otherwise I

Hi Dmitry,

Please check the attached patch compared to the 4.17 tag. This should
provide the solution for 16.04. The diff is in the original mercurial

applicable to the git repo.

[Bug 1863873] Re: Systemd fails to configure bridged network in LXC container

2020-03-02 Thread Thomas Wien
Thanks a lot for your explanations and workaround examples.

I expanded our ansible update playbooks to check if
/etc/netplan/10-lxc.yaml is installed, then to remove that file, runs
"netplan apply" and then remove the package "netplan.io". It seems to
work in our environment, without loosing the network configuration while
updating and also after reboot.

Here is the ansible section we tested. Maybe it is helpful to anyone
else. This script comes with no warranty and should be tested in your
environment thoroughly.

- name: Is Netplan configuring LXC?
  stat:
path: /etc/netplan/10-lxc.yaml
  register: netplan
- name: Remove networkd/netplan configuration
  file:
path: /etc/netplan/10-lxc.yaml
state: absent
  when: "netplan.stat.exists == true and ansible_virtualization_type == 'lxc'"
- name: Reload networkd/netplan
  command: netplan apply
  when: "netplan.stat.exists == true and ansible_virtualization_type == 'lxc'"
- name: Remove netplan.io
  apt:
name: netplan.io
state: absent
  when: "netplan.stat.exists == true and ansible_virtualization_type == 'lxc'"

[Bug 1745467] Re: Remove azure-cli from zesty, artful and bionic

2020-03-02 Thread Iain R. Learmonth
Note also that the plugin system depends on being able to arbitrarily
pull pip packages, bypassing any QA or security SLA that might be
offered by your distribution. When I tried to package this in Debian I
was modifying the plugin system to use apt/dpkg instead for plugins by
default but this was met with hostility towards the modification from
Microsoft. It's a shame but I eventually dropped the package from Debian
(which I see you picked up bluca).

** Description changed:

  Good morning.

  There many months than I use suspend (settings -> energy -> When the
- shutdown button...).
+ shutdown button...) on Ubuntu 18.04 or 19.10.

  But at each wake up from my computer, the USB 3.1 Gen 1 ports (only on
  the motherboard back panel) no work after (loose use of webcam,
  keyboard...).

  I think my motherboard is not at fault because I did not reproduce this

[Bug 1863672] Re: The 'new' persistent live method starting in 19.10 no longer works

2020-03-02 Thread Michael Hudson-Doyle
So I tried to reproduce this in a VM and failed. This is what I did:

$ cd ~/isos/
$ zsync
http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/ubuntu-server/daily-live/pending/focal-live-server-amd64.iso.zsync
[...]
$ cd ~/images/
$ truncate -s 1G casper-rw.img
$ truncate -s 1G root.img
$ parted --script --align optimal casper-rw.img -- mklabel gpt mkpart primary
ext4 2MiB -2048s
$ sudo losetup --show -Pf casper-rw.img
/dev/loop39
$ sudo mkfs.ext4 -L casper-rw /dev/loop39p1
mke2fs 1.45.5 (07-Jan-2020)
...
$ sudo losetup -d /dev/loop39
$ kvm -m 1024 -boot d -cdrom ~/isos/focal-live-server-amd64.iso -hda
~/images/casper-rw.img  -hdb ~/images/root.img
[boot image until installer starts]
$ sudo losetup --show -Pf casper-rw.img
/dev/loop39
$ ls /mnt
install-logs-2020-03-02.0  lost+found

This shows that the casper-rw filesystem was mounted as expected.

Can someone provide very very detailed instructions on what they did
that did not work?

libvirt: Provide the backing file format when creating qcow2 disks

Libvirt v6.0.0 [1] will now fail to launch a domain when using qcow2
disks where the backing file format is not recorded in the qcow2
metadata.

There are some discussions upstream around relaxing this slightly [2]
but for now any attempt to launch an instance using qcow2 disks will
fail as Nova does not populate this value when creating the disk.

Nova needs to at a minimum start populating this field and depending on
the outcome of the thread upstream in Libvirt also potentially handle
the upgrade case where we may need to rebase existing disks in order to
update the metadata.

For now this change simply adds the backing_fmt option to the qemu-img
command line used to create these disks.

[Bug 1865471] [NEW] USB 3.1 ports no work after using suspend

2020-03-02 Thread MARTIN
Public bug reported:

Good morning.

There many months than I use suspend (settings -> energy -> When the
shutdown button...).

But at each wake up from my computer, the USB 3.1 Gen 1 ports (only on
the motherboard back panel) no work after (loose use of webcam,
keyboard...).

I think my motherboard is not at fault because I did not reproduce this
bug on Windows 10.

** Affects: hibernate (Ubuntu)
 Importance: Undecided
