[Bug 1863422] Re: Unity doesn't start in focal

2020-03-07 Thread Khurshid Alam
Unity needs to be recompiled against newer unity-settings-daemon-dev.
When that happens it will automatically get fixed. Meanwhile you can you
can use maintainers ppa.

Also it is not a good idea to upgrade. Instead use fresh install for
testing.

[Bug 1171844] Re: Ubiquity: Tajik Language Support

2020-03-07 Thread Victor Ibragimov
Hi Steve,

Could you please, check and send/link to the files, that need to be translated
into Tajik, so they can be included and Ubuntu in Tajik shown properly among
the other languages once Тоҷикӣ is selected.
The file gfxboot-theme-ubuntu looks 100% translated and I will recheck it again
for spelling and other issues. Regarding the contents of
http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/dists/focal/main/installer-amd64/current/images/cdrom/debian-cd_info.tar.gz
there are files like *.hlp and *.hlp.live and it looks like they need to be
translated - do they come from the Launchpad?

Kind regards,
Victor Ibragimov

[Bug 1865818] Re: clamav update failed - default timeout needs a bump (upstream has bumped already)

2020-03-07 Thread ipv via ubuntu-bugs
hi!

did a fresh install of ubuntu 18.04.4, updated the software & did a restart.
next i installed clamav & clamtk but clamav would not update the signatures in
the background by default as it should so i edited freshclam.conf & bumped the
default 30 second ConnectTimeout & ReceiveTimeout to 300 as shown by you & the
update was done.

just out of curiosity i did a fresh install again, did a software
update, restarted & installed clamav & clamtk.

clamav would not update the signatures in the background by default as
it should so i edited freshclam.conf but this time instead of bumping
both ConnectTimeout & ReceiveTimeout to 300 i copied from the debian
freshclam.conf & only edited the ReceiveTimeout to 0 & restarted.

after a few minutes when i checked with clamscan -V it showed me the latest
signature version with date & time as it always did before > ClamAV
0.102.2/25744/Sat Mar 7 19:46:15 2020
clamav had done the update automatically in the background.

for your reference here is =

the default ubuntu bionic 18.04.4 freshclam.conf :

[Bug 1866522] [NEW] Wrong Subtitle Displayed when Playing Videos that Contain non-Latin Only Characters in the Title

2020-03-07 Thread Bagas Sanjaya
Public bug reported:

When playing videos in which the title contains non-Latin characters
(such as Cyrillic) only, the wrong subtitle will be displayed if the
directory which the problematic videos above reside also contain
subtitle for another videos in the same directory.

For example, let 'aaa.mp4' be the problematic video file, and
'bbb.it.srt' and 'bbb.mp4' are both Italian subtitle file and its
corresponding video. When running `vlc /path/to/aaa.mp4`, VLC will use
'/path/to/bbb.it.srt' as subtitle for 'aaa.mp4', which is nonsense.

In this case, I expect that no subtitles are used for 'aaa.mp4', since
it doesn't exist.

Steps to reproduce:

0. Open Terminal.

1. 'mkdir vlc-bug-test' and 'cd vlc-bug-test'.

2. Use pip3 from python3-pip package to install you-get.

3. Download 'Confronto tra Matteo Renzi e Marine Le Pen su France 2' by Matteo
Renzi [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Eh_2H-zwwhI] (with 480p MP4 resolution
format, with Italian subtitle) by:
   `you-get --itag=135 'https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Eh_2H-zwwhI'`
(note that the itag number might be different, use `you-get -i
'https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Eh_2H-zwwhI' to determine the right one).

4. Download 'Настоящая тренировка по хореографии' by Polina Gymnastics
[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wRSECn7c2oE] (with 720p MP4 resolution format,
no subtitles) by:
   `you-get --itag=136 --no-caption
'https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wRSECn7c2oE'
   (again use `you-get -i 'https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wRSECn7c2oE' to
determine the itag number if different).

5. After both Matteo Renzi's and Polina Gymnastics' videos have been
downloaded, play Polina Gymnastics' video by:

   `vlc 'Настоящая тренировка по хореографии.mp4'`.

VLC will use Italian subtitle from Matteo Renzi's video.

[Bug 1866521] Re: OS not reading my laptops touchpad, despite windows 10 on the same system reading it and function fine.

2020-03-07 Thread Chris Guiver
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better.

Bug reporting is about finding & fixing problems thus preventing future
users from hitting the same bug.

I suspect a Support site would be more appropriate, eg.
https://answers.launchpad.net/ubuntu. You can also find help with your
problem in the support forum of your local Ubuntu community
http://loco.ubuntu.com/ or asking at https://askubuntu.com or
https://ubuntuforums.org, or for more support options please look at
https://discourse.ubuntu.com/t/community-support/709

Hi,

now the package claims it breaks libc6<2.31, and we now have 2.30 in
focal,so effectively blocks the installation no matter how. Any idea?

[Bug 1866521] [NEW] OS not reading my laptops touchpad, despite windows 10 on the same system reading it and function fine.

2020-03-07 Thread Brandon Stibich
Public bug reported:

I just downloaded ubuntu and want to become part of the community but right
away I cant get my laptop's touch pad to work. I've downloaded the synaptic
driver however when I run
$ cat /proc/bus/input/devices
as I was suggested to do my touch pad is not showing up on the list at all.
Help would be greatly appreciated as I would love to make ubuntu my main OS.

  Issue Description
  -
Intel NUC5CPYH has two video outputs:
  - VGA
  - HDMI

  On HDMI Output
  - the visible pointer can't reach the left screen border by couple of pixels
(it get stuck in limit position)
  - the invisible pointer in the background handle normally.

  On VGA Out

2020-03-07 Thread Mircea Balog
** Description changed:

  Issue Description
  -
Intel NUC5CPYH has two video outputs:
  - VGA
  - HDMI

  On HDMI Output
  - the visible pointer can't reach the left screen border by couple of pixels
(it get stuck in limit position)
  - the invisible pointer in the background handle normally.

  On VGA Out
  - the pointer both visible and invisible behave normally

+ It affects probably all Ubuntu distribution.
+ Tested only on Ubuntu and Ubuntu Mate, it affects also current 20.04 daily
builds.
+
  Issue age
  -
- Issue is quite old, first observed in Ubuntu Mate 16.04 after performing LTS
hardware enabling Stack (loading newer kernel and xorg provided default by
Ubuntu) observing the issue
- - reverting the HWE kernel does not solve the issue

- Upgrading later to newer release (don't remember exactly) also solve the
issue.
- But after some updates issue return back and remain like that from couple of
Ubuntu releases.

[Bug 1866222] Re: GNOME Shell crashed with signal 11

2020-03-07 Thread Stéphane Witzmann
Here is the backtrace and registers.

At first I couldn't reproduce the bug by just moving youtube videos (in
firefox) around. But then when I had a document in LibreOffice Writer open
(which is the situation I was in over the last few days of crashes), it
happened very easily.

[Bug 1861936] Re: Raspberry Pi 3 network dies shortly after a burst of SD card IO and network load ((lan78xx): transmit queue 0 timed out)

2020-03-07 Thread mlx
Never mind the LAN7515 heatsink. The issue was avoided by some combination of
other missing configuration (I have since managed to trigger the issue):
- iptables-rules not loaded
- dnsmasq not running

Sometimes (in the full HE.net tunnel + v6 gateway configuration), the
problem is triggered by an IPv4 download, even.

I'll keep tracking this down.

[Bug 1787460] Re: Unattended upgrades removed linux-image-generic

2020-03-07 Thread Matthias Kruzenski
Hi,

this bug still exists! It is IMPOSSIBLE to install linux-generic-
hwe-18.04 and virtualbox virtualbox-guest-x11-hwe virtualbox-ext-pack at
the same time. (arch i386)

I already reported this problem month ago here:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux-meta-hwe/+bug/1856492

Seems like nobody cares! This is just pure shit! Some idiots think they
have to release kernel 5.3, but they don't consider that nothing will
work afterwards. What is even more stupid is that Kernel 5.0 is no
longer available! idiots! idiots! idiots! Damn, fix that!

How to reproduce this bug?
--

1.) create a minimal ubuntu with debootstrap

2.) use this sources.list:

deb http://de.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu bionic main restricted universe
multiverse
deb http://de.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu bionic-security main restricted
universe multiverse
deb http://de.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu bionic-updates main restricted universe

universe multiverse
deb http://de.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu bionic-backports main restricted
universe multiverse
deb http://archive.canonical.com/ubuntu bionic partner

3.) update package lists

apt-get update

4.) install kernel 5.3.0 from bionic-proposed

apt-get install linux-generic-hwe-18.04

5.) install virtualbox

apt-get install virtualbox virtualbox-guest-x11-hwe virtualbox-ext-pack

Further to comment #2, closing as "Invalid" as in my

[Bug 1866454] Re: Intel NUC5CPYH - dual mouse pointer display when booting with two screens

2020-03-07 Thread Mircea Balog
** Description changed:

+
  Issue Description
  -
- Intel NUC5CPYH has two video outputs:
- - VGA
- - HDMI
+ - two mouse pointers on screen on booting with on dual monitor setup, One
behave normally second is stuck just animate synchronously with first one.
+ - The presence of second mouse pointer results in mouse pointer trailing
artifacts and screen artifacts under mouse pointer, rendering desktop unusable.
+ - On Ubuntu Mate the second mouse pointer appear on a screen edge, and on
Regular Ubuntu it appear somewhere on one of the two screens.

- When booting with two monitors after lightdm on screen appear two mouse
pointers
- - one on center of the "viewport" between two mointor - this one can be
handled on the screen
- - one on the lateral edge of one of the monitor. - this imitate the behaviour
of first without moving
- Note: on xinput there is only one master pointer, so it should not be two on
screen.
+ Affected Systems
+
+ - Tested on Both Ubuntu Mate and regular Ubuntu, both version 19.10 and 20.04

- Workaround
- --
- To solve this issue an workaround is to boot PC with only one monitor, and
connect the second one only after logged-in and OS has finished loading
+ Issue reproduction
+ --
+ - booting with two monitors connected on affected system,
+ (connecting second monitor after login screen -lightdm greeter ... - will
prevent issue appear)

- Ubuntu Mate 19.10 Issue aggravation
- ---
- On 19.10
- - with compositing window manager
- - boot with two monitors to have two pointers
- - use Marco - Adaptive compositor
- The mouse start to flicker on screen alternateing between positions, leaving
trails and screen artifacts make system unusable
- Workaraound - use Marco - No Compositor
+ Workarounds
+ ---
+ - booting with only one monitor connected, and connect the second one later
after log-in screen appear.
+ - on booting with two monitors on Ubuntu Mate: Disabling Marco - Adaptive
compositor to "No Compositor" will solve pointer trailing and screen artifacts,
(but the second mouse pointer remain outside screen.

[Bug 1866493] [NEW] Undefined behaviour in defstruct use

2020-03-07 Thread Karsten Poeck
Public bug reported:

sbcl seem to rely on undefined behaviour in its use of defstructs with
constuctors that don't initialize all slots (sbcl seem to assume that
these slots are initialized to nil).

Example:

(defstruct (hugo (:constructor make-hugo (a))) a b)
(hugo-b (make-hugo 23))

returns nil in sbcl but #:UNBOUND in clasp (and I believe clasp is
within the standard doing this)

This - potentially wrong - pattern is used in the sbcl code base in 5
places.

The attached patched explicitely initializes the slots to nil not
covered in the constructor.

Did self build sbcl and run all tests (sucessfull).

** Affects: sbcl (Ubuntu)
 Importance: Undecided
 Status: New

** Patch added: "Patch defstruct use undefined behaviour"

Re: [Bug 1801579] Re: cannot install ubuntu

2020-03-07 Thread Douglas Lazenby
Dear Paul

Thanks for this. I had concluded that the problem was the Hard Disk on
this fairly old laptop as I had tried a few installations. It was not
worth replacing as other things were probably wrong as well.

BTW Outlook put your message in my Junk mail folder.

Thanks again

Well, I'm already having a machine running Lubuntu 19.10, but it doesn't
have that option either.

In fact, it does not come with a configuration editor at all, but opens
a terminal with a very basic curses-based text configuration.

[Bug 1018622] Re: [SB Live! Platinum CT4760P] No sound

2020-03-07 Thread Marcus Tomlinson
I'm really sorry this issue went unanswered for so long. The backlog
we've accrued here is truly unfortunate. We'd really like to see the
situation improve, but with over 3000 open bugs, manually testing each
has become virtually impossible. The aim in pinging neglected bugs such
as this is to allow those still effected to get their issue back on the
radar.

I'll leave the bug incomplete in case anyone else happens to know if
this is still relative.

Again, apologies for the radio silence.
