hi, hang seems to be fixed with nosplash-option, but i still cannot use
external monitor in Xorg...it looks now like its basicly working (see
cursor), but i cannot see any windows...they are opened on external
screen (i use internal screen as primary right to my external, so this

specifying an /etc/X11/xorg.conf file like follows (I generated it with
nvidia-xconfig and then made manual modifications following this [1]):

Wow, this is a frustating issue! It took me hours to figure out, simply
because I couldn't believe what most solutions for older Ubuntu releases
told me: it's broken out of the box and I need to fiddle with samba
internals.
Yes a simple "sudo smbpasswd -a myusername" is sufficient to make it work
Forgot to mention: this is with Ubuntu 20.04. And since I upgraded my
main system 14.04->16.04->18.04->20.04 I also confirmed the brokenness
in a VM with a fresh 20.04 setup, just to convince myself that this
issue actually happens out-of-the-box.

Ha, I found it to be a setup detail that I used for debugging before and
missed that for proper pps usage (without hacky workarounds) is
required.
I added all that is needed in https://discourse.ubuntu.com/t/network-ntp/11878
which will render it there as well as on html/pdf versions of the guide.

Perhaps it is a problem of the upgrade process from 18.04 to 20.04,
there seems to be no conflict between kicad-libraries and kicad-common
within 20.04 itself.

As expected before the fix I wasn't able to use any PPS.
Upgrading to gpsd 3.20-8ubuntu0.1 worked without any further breakage.
We see on upgrade that the apparmor profile is replaced:
