2020-05-29 Thread Jordan Liu
Issue still occurs on latest mainline kernel without nvidia proprietary
drivers. Attached another picture as logging is shutdown when issue
occurs. The attached display is only connected to the dedicated GPU and
is not outputted to at all in this configuration.

2020-05-29 Thread FelipeAF

I tried to connect via terminal, and I had same problem:

bluetoothctl connect 1C:52:16:B6:64:01
Attempting to connect to 1C:52:16:B6:64:01
Failed to connect: org.bluez.Error.Failed

Trying a lot of times, after more than 10 times, it works:

[Bug 1880041] Re: Failing to shutdown/power off or reboot on AMD Ryzen CPUs on kernel versions 5.3.0-52 and later

2020-05-29 Thread Daniel Vacas

programas:
* ukuu: https: / / github. com / teejee2008 / ukuu / releases
* grub_Customer: https: / / tipsonubuntu. com / 2018/03/11 / install-
grub-customizer -ubuntu- 18-04-lts /

2020-05-29 Thread Brian Murray
Thank you for taking the time to report this issue and helping to make
Ubuntu better. Examining the information you have given us, this does
not appear to be a bug report so we are closing it and converting it to
a question in the support tracker. We understand the difficulties you
are facing, but it is better to raise problems you are having in the

>From the link:
https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/iproute2
For Ubuntu Bionic release, the latest supported version is
4.18.0-1ubuntu2~ubuntu18.04.1.

The iproute2 5.x versions are supported in other releases (Eoan, Focal).

Genesis OS is based on Bionic kernel (18.04.1).

Question: How can Bionic based kernel get the iproute2 version v4.19.0
or later?

[Bug 1877955] Re: Fix for secure boot rules in IMA arch policy on powerpc

2020-05-29 Thread Frank Heimes
SRU stands for "Stable Release Update" and describes the process that is
needed to get a patch (or patches) to fix critical issues into
components that are part of an Ubuntu version that is already released
(post GA).

The process for packages (https://wiki.ubuntu.com/StableReleaseUpdates)
is slightly different compared to the SRU process for the kernel:
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelTeam/KernelUpdates

But there is also such a 'stable release update' process in use upstream
at kernel.org.

[Bug 1881330] [NEW] gnome-terminal fails to start

2020-05-29 Thread Jerry Quinn
Public bug reported:

My system has something strange going on. I'm unable to start gnome-
terminal. In journalctl, I see the following cryptic message:

May 29 13:08:38 cerberus org.gnome.Shell.desktop[3960]: # Error
constructing proxy for org.gnome.Terminal:/org/gnome/Terminal/Factory0:
Could not connect: Connection refused

If I then try to start it from an existing terminal, I get:

jlquinn@cerberus:~/work/lt-language-pairs$ gnome-terminal
# Error constructing proxy for :1.89:/org/gnome/Terminal/Factory0: Could not
connect: Connection refused
# Failed to use specified server: Could not connect: Connection refused
# Falling back to default server.
# Error constructing proxy for org.gnome.Terminal:/org/gnome/Terminal/Factory0:
Could not connect: Connection refused

This is a somewhat important issue because it will force me to reboot my
machine (or at least GUI) due to the inability to create new terminals.

procedure described in the bug report and in post #2 fixes it for me.

[Bug 1877418] Re: qemu-nbd freezes access to VDI file

2020-05-29 Thread John Snow
I agree, the program doesn't stop you from doing such things. It should
work without error, but it might be slow. Just offering some advice you
may not want to use it like this.

Try to reproduce with qcow2 and qemu-nbd to see if the problem is with
our support of the disk image format or if it's a problem with e.g. the
access patterns and qemu-nbd itself, for instance.

[Bug 1881342] [NEW] Display settings are completely broken in 20.04

2020-05-29 Thread Nicolas Noble
Public bug reported:

This is after doing a fresh Ubuntu 20.04 installation, on my machine
equipped with 3 monitors using an SLI of nvidia GTX 980. My 3 monitors
are 1 4k monitor in landscape mode, and 2 1080p monitors in portrait
mode. This used to work properly in Ubuntu 19.10, but is utterly broken
in 20.04. Portrait mode doesn't work anymore, and scaling doesn't work
anymore.

It seems the pomodoro extension package is either out of date or too new
for the version of gnome-shell in Ubuntu 18.04.

[Bug 1881346] [NEW] linux-kvm should support nftables

2020-05-29 Thread David Krauser
Public bug reported:

LXD can't use nftables on the latest linux-kvm kernels for eoan, focal,
and groovy:

- groovy: 5.4.0.1009.9
- focal: 5.4.0-1011.11
- eoan: 5.3.0.1017.19

LXD detects that nft tools are available, and nft tables can be listed;
however, trying to create a new table or rule fails.

Because of this, LXD has to fall back on xtables, which is a legacy
package.

[Bug 1881346] Re: linux-kvm should support nftables

2020-05-29 Thread Stéphane Graber
Right, I've sent a tweak to LXD upstream to detect such kernel setup and
fallback to xtables, but that's obviously not a situation we'd like to
rely on.

nftables is the current supported way of doing firewalling and is what
Ubuntu uses by default (through shim packages) as of 20.04, so we need
to ensure that all our kernels support it.

Easy fix would be to align CONFIG_NFT* to what we have in generic. If
that increases size too much, then I guess we can look at trimming
things a bit to only include the usually bits we need (ipv4, ipv6, nat,
mangling, mac filtering, ...).

[Bug 1881342] Re: Display settings are completely broken in 20.04

2020-05-29 Thread Ubuntu Foundations Team Bug Bot
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. It seems that your bug report is not filed about a
specific source package though, rather it is just filed against Ubuntu
in general. It is important that bug reports be filed about source
packages so that people interested in the package can find the bugs
about it. You can find some hints about determining what package your
bug might be about at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage.
You might also ask for help in the #ubuntu-bugs irc channel on Freenode.

To change the source package that this bug is filed about visit
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/1881342/+editstatus and add the
package name in the text box next to the word Package.

[This is an automated message. I apologize if it reached you
inappropriately; please just reply to this message indicating so.]

[Bug 1881350] [NEW] aws m6g.large: Reported install problem for "core18"

2020-05-29 Thread Joshua Powers
Public bug reported:

Summary
=
When launching a m6g.large AWS instance with the daily groovy image I see
messages about failing to install the seeded snaps, which prevents installing
any snaps. This also appears to stop cloud-init from completing:

May 29 20:53:37 ip-172-31-44-36 snapd[622]: daemon.go:343: started

Expected behavior
=
$ sudo snap install hello-world

$ snap list

Actual behavior
=
$ sudo snap install hello-world
error: too early for operation, device not yet seeded or device model not
acknowledged
$ snap list
No snaps are installed yet. Try 'snap install hello-world'.

Logs
=
$ journalctl --system -u snapd
https://paste.ubuntu.com/p/j5w6mJcnfw/

$ cat /var/lib/snapd/seed/seed.yaml
https://paste.ubuntu.com/p/RzRSzW8Ch4/

$ apt-cache policy snapd
snapd:
  Installed: 2.44.3+20.04
  Candidate: 2.44.3+20.04

$ lsb_release -rd
Description:Ubuntu Groovy Gorilla (development branch)
Release:20.10

Workaround
=
After running the following cloud-init completes and I am able to install
snaps. The seeded snaps however, are not installed:

$ sudo apt autoremove --purge snapd
$ sudo apt install snapd

Steps to reproduce
=
Launch a m6g.large with the daily 20.10 (Groovy) image via something like:

$ aws ec2 run-instances --image-id ami-0a5082576164ab1f7 --count 1
--instance-type m6g.large --key-name $keyname --security-group-ids
$security-group --subnet-id $subnet-id

Or you can also do this via the AWS UI by searching for the following
image name where you update the ending serial as appropriate:

Failing images:
ubuntu/images-testing/hvm-ssd/ubuntu-groovy-daily-arm64-server-20200529.1
ubuntu/images-testing/hvm-ssd/ubuntu-groovy-daily-arm64-server-20200529

ubuntu/images-testing/hvm-ssd/ubuntu-groovy-daily-arm64-server-20200519

[Bug 1881371] [NEW] Mouse cursor fbecame stuck in the "drag and drop mode" when I grabbed files from archive manager and attempted to drag to nautilus.

2020-05-29 Thread Seija Kijin
Public bug reported:

When I attempted to drag the contents of the gcc subfolder in the
gcc-10.1.0 source from a .xz file in archive manager and drop the
results in the gcc subfolder of the extracted archive in nautilus, the
cursor became stuck in the "drag and drop" mode without initiating the
drag and drop. In this state, I was unable to click anything, and the
enter button would be ignored, preventing me from entering any commands,
forcing me to do a hard reboot.

[Bug 1866926] Re: usb_modeswitch does not switch modems (remain visible as mass storage)

2020-05-29 Thread Joe Coutcher
I just spent a few hours trying to figure out why my Alcatel modem
wasn't establishing a connection...and ran across this bug. Thank you
Hanno for the workaround!

I uninstalled the usb_modeswitch package and installed the one from
Debian Bullseye, and my modem shows up now! After adding entries to my
netplan configuration to enable DHCP, I can access the interfaces.

[Bug 1880760] Re: do-release-upgrade should provide a way to upgrade to $distro-proposed

2020-05-29 Thread Bryce Harrington
We ended up not requiring this, as the SRU found another way to get
uploaded. :-)

However, I did look into how we might go about implementing this. In
case it might help someone else needing similar some day, here's what I
was thinking:

* In do-release-upgrade, add a new command line option such as '--allow-
proposed'. Like for options.allow_third_party, this option would set an
environment variable "RELEASE_UPGRADER_ALLOW_PROPOSED" to "True"

* In data/DistUpgrade.cfg, at the end of the [Sources] section add a
";AllowProposed=False".

* In DistUpgradeController::rewriteSourcesList(), after the code that
uses the config and env var settings to set mirror_check, add a similar
section for a new 'allow_proposed=False' variable.

* Also in DistUpgradeController::rewriteSourcesList(), update the clause
that does the actual proposed disablement should be modified to look
like this:

# Disable proposed on upgrade to a development release.
if (not entry.disabled
and not allow_proposed
and self.options and self.options.devel_release == True
and "%s-proposed" % self.fromDist in entry.dist):
logging.debug("upgrade to development release, disabling
proposed")
entry.dist = "%s-proposed" % self.toDist
entry.comment += _("Not for humans during development stage of
release %s") % self.toDist
entry.disabled = True
continue

I *think* that's the correct logic. This should skip the removal of
-proposed for any release, so if you enable proposed on your current
system, it should leave proposed enabled on the target distro. The
routine has a lot of branches so I may have missed some clause; I'd test
well.

This wouldn't permit upgrading to a proposed distro from a non-proposed
distro. If that functionality is wanted, then support would also need
added for that. Probably somewhere around the loop that adds -updates
and -security.

+   Candidate: 2.44.3+20.04

  $ lsb_release -rd
Description: Ubuntu Groovy Gorilla (development branch)
  Release: 20.10

  Workaround
  =
- After running the following cloud-init completes and I am able to install
snaps. The seeded snaps however, are not installed:
-
- $ sudo apt autoremove --purge snapd
- $ sudo apt install snapd
+ Removing libc6-lse and rebooting allows snap to seed properly and cloud-init
to finish

  Steps to reproduce
  =
Launch a m6g.large with the daily 20.10 (Groovy) image via something like:

  $ aws ec2 run-instances --image-id ami-0a5082576164ab1f7 --count 1
  --instance-type m6g.large --key-name $keyname --security-group-ids
  $security-group --subnet-id $subnet-id

Or you can also do this via the AWS UI by searching for the following
image name where you update the ending serial as appropriate:

  Failing images:
  ubuntu/images-testing/hvm-ssd/ubuntu-groovy-daily-arm64-server-20200529.1
  ubuntu/images-testing/hvm-ssd/ubuntu-groovy-daily-arm64-server-20200529
  ubuntu/images-testing/hvm-ssd/ubuntu-groovy-daily-arm64-server-20200528
  ubuntu/images-testing/hvm-ssd/ubuntu-groovy-daily-arm64-server-20200519

  Working image:

[Bug 1879592] Re: Netplan does not apply at boot after upgrade to 20.04

2020-05-29 Thread Jim Pye
For me the machine I installed 20.04 on is a host for Virtual Machines
and I have installed Livepatch on to minimise the reboots. :)

I will have a look at testing this on a VM on this machine and get back.

Thank you for taking the time to report this issue and helping to make
Ubuntu better. Examining the information you have given us, this does
not appear to be a bug report so we are closing it and converting it to
a question in the support tracker. We understand the difficulties you
are facing, but it is better to raise problems you are having in the
support tracker at https://answers.launchpad.net/ubuntu if you are
uncertain if they are bugs. You can also find help with your problem in
the support forum of your local Ubuntu community http://loco.ubuntu.com/

[Bug 1880853] Re: libc6-lse lets update-initramfs fail on AWS m6g instances

2020-05-29 Thread Dimitri John Ledkov
** Description changed:

+ [Impact]
+
+ * update-initramfs -u fails on arm64 m6g instances in AWS
+
+ [Test Case]
+
+ * launch m6g instance in AWS
+ * install libc6-lse (if not installed)
+ * run $ update-initramfs -u
+ * It should suceed
+
+ [Regression Potential]
+
+ * Adding one more path to libgcc_s1 resolution. This will still fail if
+ something compiles libc6 for _two_ optimisations like
+ /lib/$arch/foo/bar/libpthread.
+
+ [Other Info]
+
+ * libphtread dlopens libgcc_s1, thus whenever libpthread is needed in the
initrd libgcc_s1 must be copied in too. However the logic to find matching
libgcc_s1 is broken for optimizied builds of libc6 without optimized build of
libgcc_s1. I think libpthread should link against libgcc_s1 to prevent these
issues.
+
+ * Original bug report
+
With Ubuntu 20.04 on AWS m6g.* instance family, installing libc6-lse
lets update-initramfs always fail with the following error:

  ubuntu@ip-10-18-23-79:~$ sudo update-initramfs -u
  update-initramfs: Generating /boot/initrd.img-5.4.0-1011-aws
  E: /usr/share/initramfs-tools/hooks/btrfs failed with return 1.
  update-initramfs: failed for /boot/initrd.img-5.4.0-1011-aws with 1.

  ## Steps to reproduce (on AWS)

  ### With focal 20200423 AMI

  1. Find the following AMI and launch on m6g instance family

-ubuntu/images/hvm-ssd/ubuntu-focal-20.04-arm64-server-20200423
+    ubuntu/images/hvm-ssd/ubuntu-focal-20.04-arm64-server-20200423

  2. Run: sudo apt update && sudo apt install libc6-lse
  3. Try: sudo update-initramfs -u

  ### With focal 20200522 AMI

  1. Find the following AMI and launch on m6g instance family

-ubuntu/images/hvm-ssd/ubuntu-focal-20.04-arm64-server-20200522
+    ubuntu/images/hvm-ssd/ubuntu-focal-20.04-arm64-server-20200522

  2. Try: sudo update-initramfs -u

  ## Note

  - The entire log of the above steps performed on 20200423 AMI is attached.
  - Latest cloud-image AMI
"ubuntu/images/hvm-ssd/ubuntu-focal-20.04-arm64-server-20200522" includes
libc6-lse. On 20200522 AMI, this doesn't reproduce after removing libc6-lse
manually.
  - This doesn't reproduce on EC2 a1.* instance family.

  ## Expected behavior

  Does not fail.

  ## Background to find this bug

  As the 20200522 AMI includes libc6-lse out-of-the-box & apt-get upgrade
pulls newer package that triggers update-initramfs, apt-get upgrade
  always fail on 20200522 AMI.

[Bug 1881362] [NEW] doesn't work in 20.04

2020-05-29 Thread randomdave
Public bug reported:

This Caja extension doesn't work for me in 20.04. Formerly, in 19.10, I
could right click a file with a .pgp extension and a decrypt option was
available. I purged the extension and reinstalled it to be sure it was
there. libcaja-seahorse is enabled in caja-file-management-properties.

If I do

$ mate-seahorse-tool -d

I see the the windows I expect and can decrypt the file.

Any idea why I have to go to the command line for this now?

[Bug 1881364] [NEW] broken kerning

2020-05-29 Thread Hadmut Danisch
Public bug reported:

Hi,

I am just trying to debug a problem with impress I have after upgrading
from 18.04 to 20.04:

On some, not on all slides, text becomes

- unreadable due to negative kerning, i.e. characters are shifted so
close together that they are overlapping

- one slide even invisible.

Strangely, the effect occurs
- with libreoffice as a debian package
- with libreoffice as an AppImage downloaded from libreoffice.org
- *but not* with libreoffice as a snap (which doesn't solve the problem because
of other problems of accessing local fonts)

Unfortunately, I can't give the slides as an example, they're strictly
confidential. But I'm trying to build an example.

Just to bring people together who experience the same problem.

On Ubuntu Budgie 19.10, the problem disappears when I do not use global-

On Ubuntu Budgie 20.04, no problem at all, even while using global-menu-

So probably something changed in Firefox Ubuntu package regarding menu (
? ).

Public bug reported:

I'm on Ubuntu 20.04 and from the bootable image audio was picked up and

Kernel version was 5.4.0-26.
After some system updates the audio card is not recognized anymore.
I've collected output of alsa-info in working and non working situation, hoping
it will be useful to debug the issue.

[Bug 1881356] [NEW] Xenial update: 4.4.224 upstream stable release

2020-05-29 Thread Ian
Public bug reported:

SRU Justification

Impact:
The upstream process for stable tree updates is quite similar
in scope to the Ubuntu SRU process, e.g., each patch has to
demonstrably fix a bug, and each patch is vetted by upstream
by originating either directly from a mainline/stable Linux tree or
a minimally backported form of that patch. The following upstream
stable patches should be included in the Ubuntu kernel:

   4.4.224 upstream stable release

[Bug 1881363] [NEW] Informal date format: wrong time shown

2020-05-29 Thread Stefan Pöschel
Public bug reported:

System: Ubuntu MATE 18.04.4
Package version: 1.20.2-4ubuntu1

This issue is only present when the "informal" date format is set. This
format is the last entry in the format dropdown i.e. the "today at
14:23:45" format - the two other date formats are not affected. You also
have to switch the view to "list" mode, in order to see the "modified
date" column.

The issue affects all files that were last modified neither today nor
yesterday. For these files, the correct date is shown. But instead of
the time of the file itself, the current wall clock time is displayed!
So whenever an update of the shown timestamp is triggered, the time is
replaced by the current time (as time goes by).

See the attached screenshot for an example. As one can see, many files
have the very same time, though having different dates. Exceptions are,
as said, files that were modified today ("heute") or yesterday
("gestern") - they have the expected time.

I had a look at the code and it seems that the bug is located in
"libcaja-private/caja-file.c" in the function
"caja_file_fit_date_as_string". While for the two other date formats
everything is fine, the retrieval of the "informal" format is a bit more
complex. It involes a call to localtime which returns a pointer to
struct tm. This pointer is cached for later use. However, the manpage
for ctime warns: "The return value points to a statically allocated
struct which might be overwritten by subsequent calls to any of the date
and time functions." This seems to happen here, due to later date/time
operations.

I'm not sure whether this has already been fixed in later versions, as
the Git history shows later refactoring. At least as a quick fix for
this version, here localtime_r instead of localtime could be used.

[Bug 1881319] Re: Touchpad not recognized (probably falsely as touch panel)

2020-05-29 Thread Simon
Same Issue here. Trying to get the touchpad runing on an
Lenovo IdeaPad 5 15ARE05
Same behaviour like "elants_i2c i2c-ELAN0001:00: unknown packet" in Dmesg
Touchpad is active but messages are not interpreted correct.

according to this
https://forums.lenovo.com/topic/view/2713/5017099
messages might be interpreted from "Elan eKTH I2C touchscreen" driver build
into the kernel
