Revisiting this as the fix I posted was inaccurate. I did manage to

My guess is that you have more than one 'lshw' on your system such as a
compiled version (/usr/sbin) of 'lshw' and our Ubuntu package
(/usr/bin), and when you are executing 'lshw' it calls the compiled one
and not the one coming from our package.
You can confirm it by doing :
dpkg -S

That one worked. Freshly installed, I had 4.15.0-29 and after enabling
proposed and upgrading I was left with 4.15.0-135 That kernel worked just
fine.
How long until I can expect to see the proposed kernels for Focal/Groovy?

I'm seeing something similar on an ASUS desktop PC (AMD socket FM2,
DDR3) which already has a few dual-boot options installed. I'm trying to
install groovy 20.10 using Ubiquity from the live CD/DVD/USB. The
installer goes through most of its paces, until it tries to install
GRUB. It then dies with

5.10.8 on Fedora.
But I got no problem with the Kernel 5.4.59 on Raspbian.
Kurt Bonatz reported a problem with the 5.4.0. Maybe there is a
difference in audio stack between Ubuntu and Raspbian.

My investigation process:
Dell XPS 17 (9700) comes with Windows 10 preinstalled, where sounds
worked.
I installed Ubuntu 20.04 LTS fresh, sounds did not work on speakers or 3.5mm
headphones,
using linux-image-5.4.0-42-generic, I did not try blutooth.

The problem still exists with kernel 5.4.0-64-generic.
The last working kernel version for me is 5.4.0-54-generic
In case I remove the wifi adapter (ASUSTek Computer, Inc. AC51), then the
system is stable again without network.
