[Bug 1927854] [NEW] Warning when updating to version 0.3.10

2021-05-09 Thread Oliver Klee
Public bug reported:

I have updated to usb-creator-kde using aptitude. During the update,
this warning is displayed:

/usr/lib/python3/dist-packages/usbcreator/frontends/kde/frontend.py:140:
SyntaxWarning: "is not" with a literal. Did you mean "!="?
  if self.__img is not '':

(I don't know whether this problem also occurred with earlier versions,
i.e., whether is it a regression. I also don't know whether this problem
only affects the update or also the installation.)

[Bug 1927853] Re: Update to grub 2.04-1ubuntu44 breaks booting

2021-05-09 Thread Chris Guiver
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better.

Lubuntu 18.04 LTS, being a flavor had only 3 years of supported life
which has now ended - see https://lubuntu.me/bionic-eol/

The package this bug is filed against thus is out of support, and won't
be fixed. I suspect your issue however is with a grub2 package, not a
Lubuntu package, which would be still supported.

If the package is changed to a supported package, I'd suggest performing
the following (after package change is made of course).

Please execute the following command only once, as it will automatically
gather debugging information, in a terminal:

apport-collect 1927853

When reporting bugs in the future please use apport by using 'ubuntu-
bug' and the name of the package affected. You can learn more about this
functionality at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/ReportingBugs.

[Bug 1927855] Re: Unable to install

2021-05-09 Thread Chris Guiver
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better.

I note the following

May 9 10:49:08 ubuntu kernel: [ 858.335540] EXT4-fs warning (device sda3):
ext4_dirblock_csum_verify:373: inode #297983: comm dpkg: No space for directory
leaf checksum. Please run e2fsck -D.
May 9 10:49:08 ubuntu kernel: [ 858.335553] EXT4-fs error (device sda3):
ext4_empty_dir:2867: inode #297983: comm dpkg: Directory block failed checksum
May 9 10:49:08 ubuntu kernel: [ 858.335560] Aborting journal on device sda3-8.
May 9 10:49:08 ubuntu kernel: [ 858.336396] EXT4-fs (sda3): Remounting
filesystem read-only

Errors detected in sda3 caused the RW file-system to be flipped to RO
(read-only) thus install could not continue. Normally this would mean
you should check the health of your hardware
(https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Smartmontools)

I do note sda3 appears to be a virtualbox VM disk; VirtualBox can
misbehave if the VMs are given insufficient RAM (Oracle document this as
user error), or maybe you didn't provide the recommended disk space..

I suspect a Support site would be more appropriate, eg.
https://answers.launchpad.net/ubuntu. You can also find help with your
problem in the support forum of your local Ubuntu community
http://loco.ubuntu.com/ or asking at https://askubuntu.com or

[Bug 1927853] Re: Update to grub 2.04-1ubuntu44 breaks booting

2021-05-09 Thread Guido
Thanks for the swift update, Chris. As you say, it looks like an issue
with grub2. The end of support for this particular Lubuntu flavour had
slipped my mind. Sigh.

Looking at the /boot/efi/EFI/ubuntu/grub.cfg I see

#cat /boot/efi/EFI/ubuntu/grub.cfg
search.fs_uuid ---- root
lvmid/yy------yy/zz------zz

set prefix=($root)'/grub'
configfile $prefix/grub.cfg

The various UUIDs are all correct for my setup (UEFI. Clear-text ESP.
Encrypted partition containing LVM volumes, with separate volumes for
boot, root, home, var...)

The search.fs_uuid will fail if the key for the encrypted partition has
not been given and the encrypted partition opened via cryptomount first,
so it looks like update-grub is missing something it didn't before,
which, I guess, has something to do with the transition from grub 2.02
to grub 2.04.

Running update-grub does not fix the problem.

I followed your instructions for prevboot.rxt, though I removed from it
a bunch of lines like (no idea what those are)

Also, there's nothing in /var/crash

Also, the most recent listing in the whoopsie page was from January.

Thank you.

@Chris thanks for the heads up!

Still "Dummy output" in the Sound Settings. Here are the steps I
followed:

1. Downdloaded and installed the *.deb you pointed to:

$ sudo dpkg -i *.deb

2. Copied the Intel SST firmware binary file to /lib/firmware:

$ sudo cp skl_hda_dsp_generic-tplg.bin /lib/firmware/

3. Rebooted, disabled Secure Boot and selected the new kernel

[Bug 1927850] [NEW] update-manager package changelog contains non-conformant date

2021-05-09 Thread Ori Avtalion
Public bug reported:

Reported for update-manager 1:21.04.8, but this applies to many earlier
versions.

The update-manager deb package changelog file contains this non-
conformant date:

  Thu, 24 April 2014 14:58:38 +0200

It should be changed to:

  Thu, 24 Ap 2014 14:58:38 +0200

The date prevents the correct parsing of the file. For example,
aptitude-changelog-parser produces this error:

  aptitude-changelog-parser: warning: changelog(l781): invalid
abbreviated month name 'April'
  aptitude-changelog-parser: warning: changelog(l781): cannot parse
non-conformant date '24 April 2014 14:58:38 +0200'

[Bug 1927857] [NEW] Update to grub 2.04-1ubuntu44 breaks booting

End-Date: 2021-05-08 18:14:04

After subsequent shutdown, system fails to reboot correctly, leaving me
at grub> prompt.

System is UEFI
HD is partitioned with ESP partition and encrypted partition.
Encrypted partition contains lvm volumes (lvm-boot, lvm-root, lvm-home, etc)

using grub> ls to find encrypted partition and performing grub>
cryptomount makes lvm volumes accessible. Setting linux and initrd to
appropriate files in lvm-boot allows subsequent successful boot.

Upgrade procedure appears to have lost previous configuration.

Looking at the /boot/efi/EFI/ubuntu/grub.cfg I see

#cat /boot/efi/EFI/ubuntu/grub.cfg
search.fs_uuid ---- root
lvmid/yy------yy/zz------zz
set prefix=($root)'/grub'
configfile $prefix/grub.cfg

The various UUIDs are all correct for my setup (UEFI. Clear-text ESP.
Encrypted partition containing LVM volumes, with separate volumes for
boot, root, home, var...)

The search.fs_uuid will fail if the key for the encrypted partition has
not been given and the encrypted partition opened via cryptomount first,
so it looks like update-grub is missing something it didn't before,
which, I guess, has something to do with the transition from grub 2.02
to grub 2.04.

Running update-grub does not fix the problem.

Happens to me in a razer blade stealth (late 2016) Intel UHD Graphics
620. This happens with Ubuntu or pop_os 20.04, this doesn't happen with
wayland in Ubuntu 21.04, sadly wayland is not a viable option for this
laptop

[Bug 1872802] Re: Resizing any window will randomly result in graphics corruption for a fraction of a second (in Xorg sessions)

2021-05-09 Thread David
I tried to install both, Ubuntu 20.04.2 lts and pop_os 20.04, this
glitch when resizing is the only problem I can't fix. Both were fresh
installations so i assume it is present and I couldn't find a solution
other than to enable wayland. I don't know how to change
GRUB_DEFAULT_LINUX or disable a device that crashes the laptop (I can
disable it with xinput and then no problem). That's why I haven't
changed to wayland. But the bug is still there.

When you say "fresh installations", did you also install the latest
updates?

  sudo apt update
  sudo apt full-upgrade

and then reboot?

Also, although 16.04 is officially supported, it is not as well
supported as 20.04 which is 4 years newer. I suggest booting 20.04 from
USB, testing to see if the same bug occurs and if not then upgrading as
soon as is convenient.

The 10.3 series update for 20.04 is now available.

Please use git-buildpackage to fetch and build from the ubuntu-20.04

from the git-buildpackage generated tarball.

Test builds and testsuite passed on all platforms at
https://launchpad.net/~mysql-ubuntu/+archive/ubuntu/mariadb-10.3/+builds?build_text=_state=all

Debdiffs can be created directly from the repo like in a local clone
with 'git diff .. debian/'

[Bug 1884307] Re: no Montréal listed in city?

2021-05-09 Thread Daniel LaSalle
I wanted to give an update to this as I am installing 21.04 and those
changes have somewhat been taken into consideration:

1. Thanks a lot for those;
2. During initial setup, city is listed as "Mont-real" while it should be
"Montréal" (Very minor cosmetic flaw);
3. When selecting "Mont-real" the "CONTINUE" button never shows up and I need
to use something like Toronto. Then it works (Minor bug?);

I haven't seen this problem happen for a couple of months so suspect it
should have been closed already for Ubuntu. For PopOS, that is usually
on slightly different package versions so we can't track bugs for that
here.

Is anyone still experiencing this bug in regular Ubuntu?

[Bug 1927877] [NEW] DoH support is disabled

Public bug reported:

NLnetLabs has added DNS-over-HTTPS support to Unbound as of release

no DoH support.

For DoH to work, Unbound simply would need to be compiled with the

  * Apply upstream patch to correct key and device mapping (LP: #1926547)
File:
debian/patches/0001-hwdb-60-keyboard-Update-Dell-Privacy-Micmute-Hotkey-.patch

https://git.launchpad.net/~ubuntu-core-dev/ubuntu/+source/systemd/commit/?id=0ad362c1975705805c94a17e1887cd3982cc192f

systemd (247.3-5) unstable; urgency=medium

  * udev-udeb: setup /dev/fd, /dev/std{in,out,err} symlinks.
As systemd-udevd no longer sets them up itself, we create them manually
after mounting devtmpfs. This avoids breaking applications which expect
those symlinks. (Closes: #975018)

systemd (247.3-4) unstable; urgency=medium

  [ Luca Boccassi ]
  * Backport patch to fix assert with invalid LoadCredentials=
Regression introduced in v247, fixed in v249, see:
https://github.com/systemd/systemd/issues/19178
(Closes: #986302)

  [ Michael Biebl ]
  * network: Delay addition of IPv6 Proxy NDP addresses.
Fixes "IPv6 Proxy NDP addresses are being lost from interfaces after
networkd adds them". (Closes: #985510)

[Bug 1871963] Re: dpkg fails to install grub-efi-amd64 signed and shim-signed

2021-05-09 Thread Ben Simpson
Philipp Classen #13

> (Another issue, which I will mention as there is a tiny chance that it
is related, although I doubt it: After rebooting, I was not able to boot
(not even reaching the question for the passphrase). To solve it, I had
to disable Secure Boot, then I reached the state where I could enter my
passphrase to unlock the encrypted partition.)

Small modification to your commands above - after purging the grub
packages I did a `sudo apt-get install grub-efi-amd64-signed` instead of
`sudo apt-get install grub-efi`. I believe the signed packages include
the CA certificate needed to allow secure boot in the BIOS settings.
This could make a difference if this option is enabled. I suspect this
might have been what you observed.

[Bug 1927882] [NEW] Regression in libcgi-compile-perl 0.24-1 in Ubuntu Focal

2021-05-09 Thread David Cook
Public bug reported:

The issue reported at https://github.com/miyagawa/CGI-Compile/issues/25
shows that there is a scoping regression in CGI::Compile 0.24.

The issue was fixed in CGI::Compile 0.25.

It seems to me that it would be a good idea to push out CGI::Compile
0.25 to Ubuntu Focal.

Since it seems to work for you I wonder if there is any
encoding/version issue happening.

Ok, that is it ...
I guess for the MIR we can keep it as is, still slightly sad that it
fails with the uscan of the latest LTS.
I mean it isn't a new format version that would only be supported in
the new one, just behavior of the same rules is different.

[Bug 1927860] Re: Unable to turn on Realtek Semiconductor Corp. Integrated Webcam HD IR emitters

2021-05-09 Thread Ubuntu Foundations Team Bug Bot
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. It seems that your bug report is not filed about a
specific source package though, rather it is just filed against Ubuntu
in general. It is important that bug reports be filed about source
packages so that people interested in the package can find the bugs
about it. You can find some hints about determining what package your
bug might be about at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage.
You might also ask for help in the #ubuntu-bugs irc channel on Freenode.

To change the source package that this bug is filed about visit
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/1927860/+editstatus and add the
package name in the text box next to the word Package.

[This is an automated message. I apologize if it reached you

[Bug 1927866] [NEW] Root filesystem becomes readonly frequenty freezing system

2021-05-09 Thread anoopjohn
Public bug reported:

I have a brand new Lenovo Ideapad Flex 5.14 which came with Windows 10
and I have installed Ubuntu 21.04 with dual boot.

I am running into this problem where the root filesystem becomes
readonly and the system freezes with a screen full of errors shown about
unable to write to filesystem.

fsck and smartctl does not show any errors. So I was wondering if this
could be a bug vs a hardward issue. Please let me know if you need any
further information from the system.
