[Bug 1928075] Re: Segfault with qemu-aarch64-static doing debootstrap for debian bullseye but not buster

2021-05-11 Thread TJ
I stepped back to the chroot and tried qemu-aarch64-static from 21.04's
qemu-user-static (5.2+dfsg-9ubuntu2) but *debootstrap* fails in the same

HOWEVER, this works:

[Bug 1810183] Re: numpad on touchpad doesn't work in ASUS Zenbook 14

2021-05-11 Thread Frederic Pageot
Well, I found, for my computer, the bus nuber is different :
numpad light on :
sudo i2ctransfer -f -y 14 w13@0x15 0x05 0x00 0x3d 0x03 0x06 0x00 0x07 0x00 0x0d
0x14 0x03 0x01 0xa

Numpad light off
sudo i2ctransfer -f -y 14 w13@0x15 0x05 0x00 0x3d 0x03 0x06 0x00 0x07 0x00 0x0d
0x14 0x03 0x00 0xad

But, is there a way to integrate this in the script to enable backlight
when activating the numpad and switch it off when deactivating ? I can
understand that this is difficult to do it universally because it seems
that we have different bus numbers for the light, but can I integrate
this in the script, and if yes, where in the script ?

Anyway, many thanks for this super job.

Fred

[Bug 1925742] Re: Recent iCloud versions trigger an issue in IMAP x

2021-05-11 Thread Denys Rtveliashvili
Brian, seriously?

"Evolution" is broken in your "stable" release for almost a month and you are
requesting some meaningless paperwork? People CAN NOT READ THEIR EMAIL for
God's sake. Everyone using Apple's email is affected.

Is this really the approach in Ubuntu these days?

When a house is on fire, do firefighters ask people to
(a) explain the effect of fire on the people in the house;
(b) justify why the fire should be put out;
(c) explain how to notice the raging inferno;
(d) how to spot that the fire is gone when it is put out;
(e) describe what else can happen when the fire it put out (lots actually - a
cat can deliver a litter of kittens, for example)?

[Bug 1927866] Re: Root filesystem becomes readonly frequenty freezing system

2021-05-11 Thread anoopjohn
I just had another freeze but unlike in the past I was still in the
desktop and did not go into the terminal view. I was able to switch to
the terminal but I was not able to run any commands like 'cat
/var/log/dmesg' or 'dmesg'. I have seen this in the past where all the
icons including the icons in the notification area and favorites become
blank icons but I have not been able to do anything. I tried to run
ubuntu-bug from the terminal but it didn't start and showed io error.

Is there any command I should have run when I run into this scenario?

I rebooted into a live usb and ran fsck and badblock. No errors.

[Bug 1928138] Re: Flickering on built-in display (Intel Haswell graphics) since kernel v4.1 [bisected and workaround attached]

2021-05-11 Thread xalt7x
No, I made it for myself (using another patch
(https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=91393#c31) as a reference
for adding i915 module parameter). Not sure if upstream would accept it.
This patch doesn't fix root issue but provides ability to disable DRRS
power-saving feature which causes it (I didn't find any other way to do
that). By the way, Intel® Graphics Command Center on Windows also has an
option to enable/disable "Dynamic Refresh Rate Switching"

[Bug 1926254] Re: x509 Certificate verification fails when basicConstraints=CA:FALSE, pathlen:0 on self-signed leaf certs

2021-05-11 Thread Matthew Ruffell
Performing verification for Groovy.

I went and generated the ssl certificates and attempted to verify them with
the openssl version 1.1.1f-1ubuntu4.3 from -updates.

  Installed: 1.1.1f-1ubuntu4.3

Now going and verifying the certificates:

ubuntu@deep-mako:~/reproducer$ openssl verify -CAfile CA/rootCA_cert.pem
-untrusted CA/subCA_cert.pem user1_cert.pem
C = DE, O = Test Org, CN = Test User
error 20 at 0 depth lookup: unable to get local issuer certificate
error user1_cert.pem: verification failed

We see verification failed, again on CA:FALSE,pathlen:0
basicConstraints.

Now if we enable -proposed and install openssl 1.1.1f-1ubuntu4.4.

$ openssl verify -CAfile CA/rootCA_cert.pem -untrusted CA/subCA_cert.pem
user1_cert.pem
user1_cert.pem: OK

The certificate verifies properly. The problem is fixed.

Additionally, if we examine the new unit tests added to openssl's testsuite in
the buildlog for Groovy:

https://launchpadlibrarian.net/537503607/buildlog_ubuntu-groovy-
amd64.openssl_1.1.1f-1ubuntu4.4_BUILDING.txt.gz

We see:

../../util/shlib_wrap.sh ../../apps/openssl verify -auth_level 1 -purpose

../../../test/certs/ca-cert.pem ../../../test/certs/ee-pathlen.pem => 0

error 41 at 0 depth lookup: invalid or inconsistent certificate extension
error ../../../test/certs/ee-pathlen.pem: verification failed

[Bug 1865515] Re: Chainbooting from grub over the network to local shim breaks chain of trust

2021-05-11 Thread Lee Trager
Upon further testing I was able to confirm Dimitri's suspicion that the
-no-reboot option in LXD is causing the SecureBoot failures. I have
reported this to LXD[1] and will work to resolve that separately. I am
able to get SecureBoot working when using libvirt with signed OVMF using
grub-efi-amd64-signed_1.169+2.04-1ubuntu45_amd64.deb and shim-
signed_1.47+15.4-0ubuntu2_amd64.deb from Impish. I was able to deploy
both 20.04 and 21.04 with SecureBoot enabled as verified by mokutil
--sb-state.

Our currently policy in MAAS is to only add bootloaders from an LTS in
main to the stream. Is there any ETA as to when the shim and grub will
be backported to Focal?

[Bug 1928073] Re: Display settings don't persist across reboot / sleep

2021-05-11 Thread Daniel van Vugt
Also this reminds me of bug 1922540 whereby USB-C connection glitches
cause the list of available modes to sometimes change, which in turn
makes the system think a different monitor is connected, which means it
won't recognise it as the same monitor with the same remembered settings
as before.

[Bug 1925676] Re: System freeze

2021-05-11 Thread Daniel van Vugt
OK. It appears Ubuntu 20.04 does have i386 packages. So you can possibly
upgrade to it but there is no i386 ISO for new installations.

I can't think of anything other than kernel likely to cause this bug. An
in fact it looks like even version 4.4.0-209 is quite new so might have
caused the problem. You might find a solution in the prior versions:

https://launchpad.net/~canonical-kernel-team/+archive/ubuntu/ppa/+build/21339796
https://launchpad.net/~canonical-kernel-team/+archive/ubuntu/ppa/+build/21204474
https://launchpad.net/~canonical-kernel-team/+archive/ubuntu/ppa/+build/21164427
https://launchpad.net/~canonical-kernel-team/+archive/ubuntu/ppa/+build/21054019

Or in even a slightly newer kernel:

C = DE, O = Test Org, CN = Test User
error 20 at 0 depth lookup: unable to get local issuer certificate
error user1_cert.pem: verification failed

We see verification fail, due to CA:FALSE,pathlen:0 basicConstraints.

I then enabled -proposed, and installed openssl and libssl1.1 version

If we then repeat the certificate validation:

ubuntu@select-lobster:~/reproducer$ openssl verify -CAfile CA/rootCA_cert.pem

user1_cert.pem: OK

The certificates validate properly.

[Bug 1928152] [NEW] firmeware MD5 sum changed

2021-05-11 Thread jack.herbert
Public bug reported:

Ubuntu 20.04.2
kinect-audio-setup 0.5-1build1

Installing with `apt install kinect-audio-setup` stops after downloading
the firmware from microsoft's server, because the MD5 sum check fails.

Opening kinect_fetch_fw and changing line 22 to update to the current
checksum:

SDK_MD5="945806927702b2c47c32125ab9a80344"

then running apt again, will let the install complete normally.

[Bug 1927866] Re: Root filesystem becomes readonly frequenty freezing system

2021-05-11 Thread anoopjohn
apport information

** Tags added: apport-collected hirsute wayland-session

** Description changed:

I have a brand new Lenovo Ideapad Flex 5.14 which came with Windows 10
and I have installed Ubuntu 21.04 with dual boot.

I am running into this problem where the root filesystem becomes
readonly and the system freezes with a screen full of errors shown about
  unable to write to filesystem.

I booted into a live boot usb and did fsck and e2fsck but did not see
any errors there. I read online that this could be because of io errors
but smartctl and fsck does not show any errors

So I was wondering if this could be a bug vs a hardward issue. Please
let me know if you need any further information from the system.

[Bug 1927866] Re: Root filesystem becomes readonly frequenty freezing system

2021-05-11 Thread Chris Guiver
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better.

Bug reporting is about finding & fixing problems thus preventing future
users from hitting the same bug.

I suspect a Support site would be more appropriate, eg.
https://answers.launchpad.net/ubuntu. You can also find help with your
problem in the support forum of your local Ubuntu community
http://loco.ubuntu.com/ or asking at https://askubuntu.com or
https://ubuntuforums.org, or for more support options please look at
https://discourse.ubuntu.com/t/community-support/709

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. Please execute the following command only once, as it
will automatically gather debugging information, in a terminal:

apport-collect 1927866

When reporting bugs in the future please use apport by using 'ubuntu-
bug' and the name of the package affected. You can learn more about this
functionality at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/ReportingBugs.

[Bug 1925676] Re: System freeze

2021-05-11 Thread Robert Boucher
Hi Daniel,

No, 4.4.0-209 is the oldest on my machine. As far as Ubuntu 20.04 is
concern, I checked it out but there is no version for 32-bit computer
like mine. I will probably have to migrate to something like Lubuntu or
Xubuntu, it seems.

As I wrote in my original bug report, when I reported the bug (April
22), this thing had been going on for a week or two already. Somebody
must have change something somewhere between April 10 and 17. A month or
two before, I started to use AdBlocker on Youtube. It worked fine for a
while and then this bug happened.

Robert

[Bug 1927866] Re: Root filesystem becomes readonly frequenty freezing system

2021-05-11 Thread anoopjohn
I have more updates.

I booted into windows and did a Lenovo update and it pulled down a BIOS
update. That seems to have changed the frequency of the issue. Earlier
the issue was happening every 30 minutes or so but now it has reduced to
only once in the last 24 hours and that happened when the system was
left unattended overnight. I was wondering if this had something to do
with power management or anything like that?

I came across this issue related to a Samsung SSD drive -
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1678184. Was
wondering if I should try that. But now my repeatability of the freeze
is tougher. So not sure.

I had also run into another issue after I ran the BIOS update. My Wifi
adapter disappeared in Ubuntu. I booted into windows and disabled APM on
wifi adapater and did a cold restart into Ubuntu and the adapter came
back.

The bios version is now GJCN19WW build date 2/23/2021. Phoenix
Technologies Ltd.

[Bug 1925742] Missing SRU information

2021-05-11 Thread Brian Murray
Thanks for uploading the fix for this bug report to -proposed. However,
when reviewing the package in -proposed and the details of this bug
report I noticed that the bug description is missing information
required for the SRU process. You can find full details at
http://wiki.ubuntu.com/StableReleaseUpdates#Procedure but essentially
this bug is missing some of the following: a statement of impact, a test
case and details regarding where problems may occur. Thanks in advance!

[Bug 1928146] Re: Please SRU nvidia-modprobe 465.24 and nvidia-settings 460.73

2021-05-11 Thread Erich Eickmeyer 
** Description changed:

  [Impact]

Users of the Nvidia CUDA libraries using Hirsute, Groovy, or Focal are
unable to install and/or upgrade to version 460.73 of the CUDA
libraries. This is because the new libraries have a versioned hard
  dependency on nvidia-modprobe >= 460.73 and nvidia-settings >= 460.73.

This is impacting data scientists and deep learning customers.

  [Test Case]

  * Add the Nvidia CUDA repositories below:

  echo 'deb
http://developer.download.nvidia.com/compute/cuda/repos/ubuntu1804/x86_64 /
  deb
http://developer.download.nvidia.com/compute/machine-learning/repos/ubuntu1804/x86_64
 /
  ' | sudo tee /etc/apt/sources.list.d/nvidia-cuda.list
  sudo apt-get update

  * Ensure nvidia and libnvidia files come from the Ubuntu repository:

  echo 'Package: nvidia-* libnvidia-* xserver-xorg-*
  Pin: release l=NVIDIA CUDA
  Pin-Priority: -1' |sudo tee /etc/apt/preferences.d/nvidia-libs.conf
  sudo apt-get update

  * Install nvidia-driver-460 from the Ubuntu repository:

  sudo apt-get install nvidia-driver-460

  * Confirm that almost all Nvidia driver packages are set to the same
  version (460.73.01) except for nvidia-settings and nvidia-modprobe:

  dpkg --list |grep nvidia |grep ^ii |awk '{print $3"\t" $2}' |sort -n

  * Attempt to install the CUDA package from Nvidia

  sudo apt-get install cuda-drivers-460

  * The drivers will not install due to a version mismatch as show below:

  sudo apt-get install cuda-drivers-460
  ...
The following packages have unmet dependencies:
  cuda-drivers-460
  Depends: nvidia-modprobe (>= 460.73.01) but 460.32.03-0ubuntu20.04.1 is to be
installed
  Depends: nvidia-settings (>= 460.73.01) but 460.39-0ubuntu0.20.04.1 is to be
installed
E: Unable to correct problems, you have held broken packages.

  [Where problems could occur]

   * This may potentially cause issues with older versions of the Nvidia
driver, but this is low since this is for users of the 460 drivers.

  [Other Information]

Can nvidia-modprobe and nvidia-settings be synchronized to match the
other versions provided in this and all future nvidia-drivers-*
metapackages? This should resolve the issue forever going forward.

please add a comment stating that, and change the tag to verification-
failed-groovy. In either case, without details of your testing we will
not be able to proceed.
