[Bug 51081] rt2500 card not getting dhcp lease
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: dhcdbd I currently have a pcmcia wireless card with the rt2500 chipset: # lspci | grep RT2500 :02:00.0 Network controller: RaLink Ralink RT2500 802.11 Carbus Reference Card (rev 01) Local wireless access points are show in network manager. From network manager an access point is selected, one with no WEP. Expected result: Network connection established Actual result: No connection established. Network manager sits spinning for some time. This seems to be caused by dhcdbd not invoking dhclient correctly. The following line is in /var/log/messages: Jun 27 06:34:32 berry dhcbdb: message_handler: message handler not found under /com/redhat/dhcp/ra0 for sub-path ra0.dbus.get.reason The rt2500 makes the wireless card available as ra0 (not eth1 or others). Manually running dhclient ra0 successfully obtains a wireless lease and enables connectivity. This bug is to fix dhcdbd so it successfully invokes dhclient for ra0. It is hoped this will enable network-manager to connect. I had the same problem.I noticed that I had the same keyboard layout;. I don't if there will be a fix but I found a way to solve this problem. The problem is that Ubuntu doesn't recognise the keyboard perfectly,at least this is what I think.I found that this happens by reading the syslog, which is almost the same with yours. The username and password have an error. So to fix this just find a username and password from the internet. It's the only way because you haven't typed it.You copy those two from internet and paste them at the setup. It worked for me.If you could mention your keyboard model,we could see if it is the same and notify the ubuntu community to create support or solve the problem in any other way. -- Installer crashed, runtime error, failed with exit code 1 https://launchpad.net/bugs/49404 -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 44171] Re: insecure socket file creation
This is indeed pretty low impact. It does not allow a symlink attack since the file is deleted before usage, and the small race between unlink() and bind() does not hurt too much either since bind() will just fail if the file already exists. So there are two minor consequences: * It removes a file /tmp/port which might just happen to be a file which you still need * It opens a small race condition for a local DoS. ** Changed in: spread (Ubuntu) Importance: Medium = Low Status: Unconfirmed = Confirmed -- insecure socket file creation https://launchpad.net/bugs/44171 -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 51094] DNS broken because of incorrect boot order (/etc/init.d/pppd-dns)
Public bug reported: The boot order has changed from Breezy to Dapper, now /etc/init.d/pppd- dns is linked to /etc/rcS.d/S55pppd-dns instead of /etc/rcS.d/S38pppd- dns as it used to be. Since it runs after networking is brought up (which, thanks to pppoeconf, already has activated the ppp connection), it discards the (until then valid) /etc/resolv.conf. We end up with an established ppp connection but without DNS servers to resolve domain names. The work-around would be to disconnect (sudo poff) and reconnect (pon), but a real fix is changing the boot order back to how it was set up under Breezy. I'm pretty sure a lot of people don't even notice that the ppp connection is up and that the DNS is being mangled, instead they will assume that there's no Internet connection after boot-up, despite having configured it that way. In addition to that, bringing up a working Internet connection on boot up is vital for headless servers, so I consider this bug of high importance. Here's how I fixed it: sudo mv /etc/rcS.d/S55pppd-dns /etc/rcS.d/S38pppd-dns By the way, /etc/rcS.d/S39dns-clean (Breezy) changed into /etc/rcS.d /S55dns-clean (Dapper) as well, although its comments clearly indicate It should never be run while ppp is up. - which happens at S40networking! Somehow the boot order got mixed up quite a bit, causing hard to troubleshoot problems... Thanks for fixing this problem, -- Stefan D. [Bug 50017] Re: yelp search doesn't do anything
Beagle isn't installed by default as far as I know. Yelp search should still do something useful without beagle. [Bug 47768] Re: Mount Root Files System Failed
on one test machine i have the same problem, it seems to be a problem with some chipsets and newer kernel ? -hal? (hoary, breezy and demudi (sarge) had no problems on that machine). If there is anything connected to any USB port at boot time, i get a freeze at Mounting root filesystem (without usplash i can see it hanging in the USB initialisation), if i boot without anything connected to USB the system starts up normally. But if i connect any USB device i get a total machine freeze again (GUI or not). Disabling USB Legacy Support in BIOS helped as workaround for this machine. [Bug 51095] different behavoir based on existence of .jpg extension
Public bug reported: I have 2 dirs with the same photos in them: /tmp/A/img1.jpg /tmp/A/img2.jpg and /tmp/B/img1 /tmp/B/img2 If you go (with nautilus) to dir /tmp/A and click a photo and select open with gthumb, you get a slideshow with ALL the .jpg files in the directory. Also the 'next' and 'prev' buttons work. If you go to /tmp/B and select a photo to be viewed with gthumb you only get that one photo, and no slide show. And ofcourse the next and prev buttons also don't work. This difference in behavior is inconsistent, esp. as nautilus does show the images in both directories. ** Affects: gthumb (Ubuntu) Importance: Untriaged Status: Unconfirmed -- different behavoir based on existence of .jpg extension https://launchpad.net/bugs/51095 -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 22400] Re: Wallet manager losing wallets
Had another interesting symptom of kded problems: konqueror wouldn't start. It seemed there was more than one kded process running at a time; when I killed one of them all the instances of konqueror I had tried to start all started at once. A crash dialog came up at the same time but I'm afraid I instinctively clicked through it, so I don't have the backtrace. Offtopic: what about a crash log? This would also allow reporting bugs which occur during logout, since normally the crash dialog will be closed like everything else. Obviously given the size of backtraces you would need to be aware of it, have some way to clear it, or retain only the most recent etc. What about something like an additional button, remember this crash for later, set as a default which would be implicitly activated if the dialog is closed due to logout or window close button. -- Wallet manager losing wallets https://launchpad.net/bugs/22400 -- kubuntu-bugs mailing list kubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/kubuntu-bugs

[Bug 17423] Re: Mixing packages from Hoary and Breezy results in unbootable initrd
Mixing packages from repos is not a supportable configuration, but in principal we support partial upgrades where possible. The problem here is that dpkg doesn't have the ability to describe the needed relationship. Specifically, we need https://launchpad.net/distros/ubuntu/+spec/package-dependency-field- breaks to be implemented. It'll be too-little-too-late for this bug, but the bug is certainly real and should show up in queries if people want to understand why their system broke on a partial upgrade. I will close this ticket when Hoary has been end-of-life'd in October. This package is important to me. [Bug 51038] Re: sub-folders disappear on upgrade from breezy to dapper
I tracked this down to the fact that dovecot has apparently changed the default subscriptions file for the maildir backend from .subscriptions to subscriptions. I can't find _any_ documentation of this change, never mind the BIG FLASHING WARNING stuff I would expect.
