according to sonar.desktop in gnome-screensaver, it uses

Exec=sonar -root

To execute, not TryExec=xscreensaver

Worth testing in other environments though - i'd hate to see this fixed

[Bug 35354] Re: hal does not recognize NTFS-FUSE mounted devices as mounted

2006-07-16 Thread Samuel Cormier-Iijima
OK, after messing around with it for an hour, I managed to figure out a
way to fix this. This is just a hack until some things with nautilus and
hal are fixed up, but you can try this:

Open up /etc/hal/fdi/policy/preferences.fdi and paste this in at the end
(but before /deviceinfo):

device
  match key=volume.fstype string=ntfs
merge key=volume.is_mounted type=booltrue/merge
merge key=volume.mount_point type=string/media/Windows/merge
merge key=volume.policy.mount_filesystem type=strlistfuse/merge
merge key=storage.removable type=boolfalse/merge
merge key=volume.ignore type=boolfalse/merge
  /match
/device

Of course, replace /media/Windows with the mount point. This won't work
if you have multiple NTFS partitions, change the match element to match
your device. Please let me know if this works :-)

Cheers, Samuel

[Bug 49228] Re: kscreensaver-xsavers installed but screensavers from xscreensaver-gl missing

2006-07-16 Thread Darwin Bautista
The fix won't affect GNOME/XFce since it only modifies the KDE Hooks
which are contained only by the kscreensaver-xsavers package.

The fix doesn't modify the files in the /usr/share/gnome-
screensaver/themes/ directory. It only modifies the KDE Hooks located in
/usr/share/applnk/System/ScreenSavers/.

[Bug 41137] Re: No indication that a resume from hibernation has begun

I run Ubuntu on my laptop and I almost always hibernate, simply because
the system boots so much faster that way. As for the UI noise, it's
not critical in terms of system stability, but it's one of the first
things you get to see when resuming the system; probably not the best
first impression...

I have the same problem after upgrade from dapper beta to dapper release : The
update notifier doesn't show up anymore. The update notifier daemon is running

If I manually launch the update manager and check for updates, there are
usually some updates available that I was not notified of.

[Bug 48974] Re: white gdm freeze on logout

2006-07-16 Thread Ripper
Same problem here. Radeon 9800Pro with 7.0.0-8.25.18+2.6.15.11-3 fglrx
driver. It happens only sometimes, most of logouts are fine. Some are
not. Seems to me, that it could possible have some connection with
amarok (KDE libs) running in gnome? Up to now I had never problem when
not starting amarok or other KDE app. Is it possible?

After logout, there are white screen with gray box (login prompt), the
computer is not freezed, just graphically distorted. You can type in
login and password (it is not visible), and then happens freeze, or you
can try ctrl+alt+f1 (freeze) or ctrl+alt+backspace (black and orange
lines throughout whole screen and freeze).

Where exactly try to put AlwaysRestartServer=true line?

[Bug 53131] mercurial 0.7 doesn't work with python 2.4

2006-07-16 Thread Henning Sprang
Public bug reported:

Mercurial 0.7 on Ubuntu Dapper with python 2.4 gives a long traceback
message when trying to do any real work. When just typing hg it prints
the help message with no error, but any real command (e.g. hg update, hg
revert, ...) gives just a long, meaningless traceback message.

I contacted the mercurial developers and where told that I should use the
newest versio 0.9 - they are not surprised that mercurial 0.7 doesn't work at
all with python 2.4.
(I'll forward these mails containing that conversation here later).

as the mercurial hg script starts with
#!/usr/bin/env python

A workaround would be to change this line to use python2.3 and install
this package accordingly.

It would be better, though, if Ubuntu wouldn't package spoftware that is
totally unable to run in such a default configuration in the very first
place, that doesn't look exactly well maintained

Please update the mercurial package for dapper to 0.9 with the next
maintenance release...

[Bug 53132] We need a GUI to enable/disable utc

2006-07-16 Thread x
Public bug reported:

Currently utc is causing people problems as they might not understand
what it does if enabled during the installation and they want to change
the setting later when they experience problems.

Example of such problem is when user has a dualboot machine, where
Windows and Linux are in different time, because utc is enabled. ( I
recently fixed such problem myself. )

Obvious place to look for such setting is the date time settings, so
we should add there an option where utc could be enabled or disabled.

2006-07-16 Thread hsprang
Before I had this error with Ubuntu, I had the same error with SuSE,

Here's the response I got from the mercurial developers:

absolutely unhelpful message shown at the end of this mail.

Mercurial 0.7 is very old. If you could retry with a newer version,
such as 0.9, that would be a big help.

I cant tell if the fault is probably on me because I do something
wrong, because from this message I cant identify anything i could do
 different than I do.

When Mercurial prints a big traceback-style error message like that,
it's a sign that something very unexpected happened. So reporting the
error to the list is quite appropriate.

so if you do have a /wordpress/xmlrp.php install that is currently

[Bug 53133] Re: Totem crashs system when playing MJPEG AVI

2006-07-16 Thread A.Skwar
The lockup not only occurs with the file I mentioned in the original
report, but also with the one I'm going to attach - it's a smaller file,
just 450k.

Because of this, I suppose that this is a general problem of Totem with
MJPEG files.

I'll also attach the source JPEG files, which were used to create the
MJPEG avi. To encode the JPEG files to an MJPEG AVI, I used mencoder
from mplayer like so:

mencoder 'mf://*jpg' -mf w=800:h=532:fps=2:type=jpeg \
  -ovc lavc -lavcopts vcodec=mjpeg:mbd=2:mv0:vbitrate=256 \

[Bug 53138] initrd missing modules on install, IBM x206m (Adaptec aic94xx)

2006-07-16 Thread Dave Gilbert
Public bug reported:

Hi,
Installed an IBM x206m from a dapper CD, the install apparently worked but
the boot failed, on investigation the initrd was missing the drivers for the
SAS disc controller
it needed aic94xx/aic94xx.ko and the sas_class.ko adding (those are in the
dapper kernel modules). I think it had actually put the aic7xxx drivers in
there (but haven't got the machine in front of me to check)

Note: The initial symptoms are confusing and might get misreported as a
PCI resource issue; since at boot with an md raid setup, the last
messages you see are about PCI resource errors and appears to hang; but
only if you leave it for a minute or two does it eventually drop to a
shell where you can see that the drivers are missing. It really needs a
message to say that it is waiting.

P.S. What actually decides what modules to put in the install initrd? (I
had a look in initramfs-tools but couldn't see any logic for figuring it
out) Also is there a 'right' way to fix this, I attacked it with cpio
and added the modules and changed the conf/modules - but cpio just makes
me feel ill

[Bug 20639] Re: Nautilus starts eating up all of the cpu

2006-07-16 Thread jpalan
I have encountered the same bug with both nautilus 2.12 and now in
Dapper with 2.14.1.

It has only appeared when I have had a certain image or video file in my
home directory when I have started nautilus and then gone away when I
have moved the files (which have worked ok in programs, though) to some
subdirectory.

I really don't have a clue what has caused this, I have all file
previews disabled.

[Bug 32597] Re: Hang while booting

2006-07-16 Thread norba
I have also the same problem. The Boot stops 9 of 10 times at loading hardware
drivers. After a few minutes the booting continues.
After that all works fine expect of my internet-connection (realtek networkcard
with dslmodem).
pppoeconfig says it can't find the access concentrator of my provider.

I have to reboot until the loading hardware drivers bug don't appear.
Then everything works fine.

[Bug 48184] Re: Fails to detect ethernet card (VT6105 via-rhine) SOLUTION

2006-07-16 Thread AndrewG
On further investigation, I was able to make the NIC work by moving it
to a different PCI slot. However, the Creative sound card then stopped
working with the same error (-16). If three PCI cards were installed,
two of them would work. Therefore the solution was to install an old
network card and leave it completely disconnected - just to absorb the
error. I had to find the right places for the cards by trial and error.
A hardware solution to a software problem!

I assume that this is a problem with the 2.6.15 Kernel - perhaps not
assigning IRQs correctly for this motherboard. Earlier Kernels worked
perfectly.

[Bug 46233] Re: SoundBlaster Audigy SE - sound output only in 2 front channels

2006-07-16 Thread gr00ve
funny enough, as already mentioned all together the channels do not play except
the front left/rights.
However in xmms for instance if configured under options preferences
output plugin ALSA 1.2.10 configure audio device setting - should you
choose hw:0,0 hw:0,1 hw:0,2 it does play through other channels!!! So in theory
it works :) wuld be great to get it to work all together now!

[Bug 6627] Re: lexmark z53 blank pages

2006-07-16 Thread Paul Bell
Hi... I've tried all suggested above and I'm still spewing blank sheets.

I'm actually using a Xerox XK50cx Workcentre (via USB) which works
better on Windows with the Lexmark Z53 driver!

I've now downgraded using
libgimpprint1_4.2.7-10_amd64.deb
cupsys-driver-gimpprint_4.2.7-10_amd64.deb
cupsys-driver-gimpprint-data_4.2.7-10_all.deb

Printing is now fine (Lexmark Z53). I've spent a *lot* of time reading
forums and searching for an answer to this so unless someone has another
suggestion I'm going to lock cupsys-driver-gimpprint in Synaptic.

'apt-cache showsrc cupsys gutenprint | grep ^Version' was (and still is) showing
Version: 1.2.0-0ubuntu5
Version: 1.2.1-0ubuntu2
Version: 5.0.0~rc2-0ubuntu6

Ubuntu 6.06 / 2.6.15-26-amd64-k8

Cheers ... Paul

[Bug 52237] Re: installation failed error while dist upgrading.

2006-07-16 Thread Aaron Isotton
There are two problems with flashplugin-nonfree.

a) In sh, you must not return/exit negative values.
b) /usr/lib/mozilla-firefox is a symlink to /usr/lib/firefox; thus trying to
set a symlink in *both* directories will of course not work.

This patch fixes both problems.

[Bug 53144] exifautotran fails to transform exif thumbnails in images...

2006-07-16 Thread Sebastian Rasmussen
Public bug reported:

If one tried to run exifautotran on a jpeg-file that contains an exif
thumbnail the image itself gets transformed properly according to exif
information, but the exif thumbnails does not.

I have edited the exifautotran script quite significantly to support
translation of exif thumbnails as well (using the exif package and
jpegtran), but since I'm new to launchpad I'm unsure about how to attach
this edited script to the bug report. I will try to find this out
though.

[Bug 52857] Re: ERROR: cpu exception in dosemu code outside of VM86()!

this can be fixed by setting and uncommenting the $_layout option in the
/etc/dosemu/dosemu.conf file to your keyboard layout :

# Keyboard layout: default: 'auto' (which tries to generate the table from
# the current Linux console settings)
# or one of: finnish(-latin1), de(-latin1), be, it, us, uk, dk(-latin1),
# keyb-no, no-latin1, dvorak, pl, po, sg(-latin1), fr(-latin1), sf(-latin1),
# es(-latin1), sw, hu(-latin2), hu-cwi, keyb-user, hr-cp852, hr-latin2,
# cz-qwerty, cz-qwertz, ru, tr.
# $_layout = auto

[Bug 44959] Re: sdhci driver kills Suspend/Resume on Dell X1

2006-07-16 Thread Christian Zeller
One simple solution to fix the problem with the long timeout after
resume would be to prevent the mentioned modules from getting loaded by
the kernel. I added the following two lines to my
/etc/modprobe.d/blacklist:

blacklist sdhci
blacklist mmc_core

The downside is that the SD card slot certainly wouldn't run anymore,
but that's no problem for me personally because I don't use it.
