[Bug 70693] bcm43xx and network-manager-gnome don't work completely right

2006-11-07 Thread Juan Carlos Inostroza
Public bug reported:

I have a strange issue with network-manager and bcm43xx driver.
On Dapper, network-manager chose the right (i mean the latest used) ESSID
automatically and connect upon login. In Edgy, network-manager won't connect to
the latest ESSID, until I type as root

# iwconfig eth1 essid any

After that, it joins the wifi network.

Don't know if it's a bug from the bcm43xx driver (don't think so),
network-manager-gnome.

*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 67710 ***

See my comments and lspci output in bug #69005. I also have an intel
chipset. I have tried to boot using init=/bin/bash and unload all
module. The only ones that were loaded were for sata and ext3. doing a

# echo mem /sys/power/state

Triggered the problem. Suspend worked correctly but not resume. I think
this issue has nothing to do with video but more with the linux kernel.

[Bug 70697] alternate install cd cannot mount /windows partition

2006-11-07 Thread amedee
Public bug reported:

Using the alternate install cd for manual partitioning with raid
partitions on 3 disks:

120 + 120 + 200 GiB --
3*100 MiB raid1 /dev/md0 (ext2 - /boot)
3*1 GiB swap
3*119 GiB raid5 /dev/md1 (ext3 - /)
All Linux partitions are formatted.

Windows XPPsp2 was already installed on the remaining 80 GiB of the
third disk. (ntfs).

I tried to mount the ntfs partition on /windows. This is one of the
suggested mount points in the installer, the other is /dos.

When saving the changes, the installer starts formatting the partitions.
After that, it mounts the partitions.

The installer gives a message that it failed to mount the /windows
partition, and comes back to the partitions list.

Already tried:
* manually entering another mount pount (/mnt/windows, /data, /data/windows,
/media/windows,...) -- failed with the same message.
* not mounting the ntfs partition -- installer continues without any further
errors.

I encountered this problem in the alternate install cds of 6.10; 6.10 beta;
6.06; and I think even 5.10 (not 100% sure about the last one).

network-manager uses libiw (Wireless Tools libs) for functionality. Iwconfig is

[Bug 70708] cant do umlaut in tags

2006-11-07 Thread jens_acamedia
Public bug reported:

finally banshee edits tags in stead of only making the user believe it edits
them...
great!

but it can not handle umlaut e.g. åäö

try to put these in a tag and it will be recorded as a ?
even if the tag was correct before it will be displayed in banshee as ? and
consequently saved as ? if you mistakenly click save without having edited
anything

thanks...

[Bug 70711] Ubuntu 6.06 has 2.0.2 which crashes on signed documents

2006-11-07 Thread Andy Pepperdine
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: openoffice.org

I asked this on the forums first and describes the issue:
=
I'm new to Ubuntu, but have a couple of years on Suse, and wanted to move my
work to Ubuntu. Hit a problem immediately.

 1. Installed 6.06 on a laptop, and AIUI that will be the one with long term
support and the one most new users will see. It contains Ubuntu's version of
OOo 2.0.2

 2. First doc I tried to open crashed OOo, but the doc was digitally signed.
Removed the signature, and it opened fine.

 3. Looked around for an update to OOo 2.0.4, and found out how to convert rpms
to debs and install with help from the OOo site.

 4. Removed OOo 2.0.2 completely from laptop, installed 2.0.4 from OOo's site.

 5. Docs now open fine. (And BTW the font wizard is there too so I can get
reasonable looking docs from other people who stick to Times New Roman and
Ariel.)

Question: Can anyone confirm this behaviour? If so, it looks to me like a bug
serious enough to warrant a request for a fix in Dapper.

PS. You can find examples of signed docs at www.pepperdine.eclipse.co.uk/FOSS
and look for the odt and odp versions.
=

The only reply suggested raising a bug report - hence this message.

Please can we have an update on 6.06 LTS for OOo to 2.0.4.

[Bug 70719] [ Wifi card Intel Pro 3945 ] - My wifi connection disappears after a while...

2006-11-07 Thread Greguti
Public bug reported:

Hello

Edgy Eft updated from a Dapper Drake, on a brand new Asus S6J.

For some weeks now, I noticed a curious bug with my wifi connection. The
connection runs ok for a few hours, then, suddenly, it just goes away. I
mean, suddenly there is no more active connection, and I can't find no
way to start it again. I must reboot my computer in order to get it
working again.

My wireless card is an Intel Pro 3945ABG. I just use Gaim, Firefox and
Rhythmbox (radio flux). This morning it was even worse: the connection
flew away after just few minutes of connection. I had to reboot once
again. I have no idea what is going on here. Is it a wifi trouble or
something else?

I found at least one other Ubuntu user that noticed the same trouble on
his computer (http://forum.ubuntu-fr.org/viewtopic.php?id=74238).

Some hints here:

I've got no idea, but i can tell you that the same card is working fine
here, with wpa.

Could well be a local problem, i'm not sure. Or it could be something
with your system. No idea.

[Bug 70721] DHCP Negotiation Timeout

2006-11-07 Thread William Oakley
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: netcfg

Hi

We are testing the Ubuntu Installer as a method for deploying Ubuntu in
our European Datacentres. During testing we have noticed that in the
majority of cases dhcp negotiation times out and it is necessary to
attempt negotiation again for it to succeed.

Would it be possible to extend this timeout?

kind regards

- William

[Bug 70722] CPU #0 soft lockup during boot

2006-11-07 Thread Magz0r
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 63418 ***

Public bug reported:

When I boot 2.6.17-generic my laptop hangs at about 20% in usplash. If I
use the recovery kernel it says CPU#0 soft lockup right after fsck.

I use dual boot and WinXP works fine. Edgy will boot ok (most of the
time) if I boot WinXP first and then reboot and start Edgy. If I cold
boot directly into Edgy it will hang, but sometimes it works if I do 4-5
cold boots (I tend to give up at that point).

The system is an Acer Travelmate 8202 with a dual core CPU.

I have no other problems with Edgy or WinXP. After bootup everything
seems to be working fine.

[Bug 70559] Re: which -a does not give aliases (Edgy)

2006-11-07 Thread Anita
This is not a bug. I investigated and found that 'which', in the Debian
package debianutils, for quite some time has been the one by Colin
Watson and not the 'which' written by Carlo Wood. This version does not
have the '-i' switch which is '--read-alias'.

[Bug 70723] one or more jars in the ubuntu package are outdated

2006-11-07 Thread Daan de Wit
Public bug reported:

One or more jars in the openoffice.org2.0.4-ubuntu2 package are
outdated, for example ridl.jar (program/classes/ridl.jar) the
manifest.mf file for the ubuntu version shows buildnr 9011 whereas the
official linux release from openoffice.org has buildnr 9058. The
manifest file is located in the directory META-INF in the jar-file
(which is basically just a zip). This causes problems with (Java)
applications that connect to OpenOffice using Bootstrap.bootstrap() (for
more information see the openoffice development guide). When such a
program calls the bootstrap method two or more times in its lifetime an
IllegalAccessError is thrown from java.

I have this problem, too.

It's really sad... I was quite impressed when I installed Dapper (KDE
3.5.4, I think) and put a DVD in the drive. The DVD icon popped up
(*not* the CD icon, like it does now), and the icon's label was
BATMAN_BEGINS, not cdrom0.

[Bug 70719] Re: [ Wifi card Intel Pro 3945 ] - My wifi connection disappears after a while...

2006-11-07 Thread Greguti
A precision: the trouble occurs even when I'm not using the computer,
for example when I let it open for few hours, then I come back and I
notice that the connection is not here anymore (occured a few times,
aMule was running, no suspend or hirbenating stuff was on).

Of course, I too have the Edgy bug with the network-manager not
detecting the wifi networks around me, but I managed to handle it
(thanks to wifi-radar), and this bug (disappearing connection) is
occuring just for one or two weeks now.

Regards
