I had the same problem and I think I know how I produced it: Hardware: IBM Thinkpad X24 with Onboard soundcard Intel 82801CA-ICH3, running Ubuntu 6.06.1 Audio was working properly until I attached an external USB headset. I've tried 2: One Logitech and one from CMedia. Logitech didn't work, but CMedia did - so I selected CMedia headset as sound device from System Preferences Sound Preferences I only had this headset attached temporarily. Now sound in gnome is behaving quite strange: - sound during boot: yes - sound in Totem: yes - sound recorder: no (with error) - audacity: no errors, but recording is broken and played back in other players with bad resampling artefacts. [Bug 58826] Re: computersweden.idg.se is slow to render
Sorry for my tardy reply, but basically I can't see a bug in firefox. It can not account for every site being written badly nor can it judge what hardware the site is run on. Also the page loads quite quickly for me in comparison to some and I am in England. I understand that this is a problem but I don't believe that firefox should build a browser around one site who's build maybe questionable, when you yourself admit that it works fine with other sites. You may well find that the site is built using a microsoft specific code base which could be causing the problem, if it has IE specific browser enhancements. If that were the case then there maybe some need for a feature request. Failing that you may want to get onto the company running the site and explain the problems you are experiencing with them. -- computersweden.idg.se is slow to render https://launchpad.net/bugs/58826 -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 74466] Re: Multiples of the same printer show when adding a printer
Sorry, forhrt about my last comment, I didn't see that you were still in the printer auto-detection step. Here you see the printer twice as it is once directly detected by CUPS through its usb backend and once via HPLIP via the hp CUPS backend. If you run lpinfo -v or use the CUPS web interface (http://localhost:631/admin/) you will also see two entries for your printer. In the CUPS web interface you can clearly distinguish the two entries, all printer setup tools should do so, as it can always happen that more than one CUPS backend can be suitable for one and the same printer. gnome-cups-manager is not maintained any more and will be replaced by printerdrake. printerdrake suppresses the non-HPLIP entry. [Bug 69725] Re: Upgrade from dapper to edgy changed Caps_Lock to Shift_Lock
Yes, I saw that, thanks, but it's a red herring; CHARMAP is meant to be UTF-8, and there isn't supposed to be an ACM installed for UTF-8. Anton replied and told me (I hope he won't mind me reproducing his comment here): I think the only way to fix this problem is to patch the kernel. The problem is that when the keyboard is in Unicode mode CapsLock works only for the ASCII letters. For all other letters this key works only in non-Unicode mode and unfortunately for ckbcomp it is not easy to check whether the keyboard produces only ASCII letters. Compare also this patch we've had in console-tools for a long time: - 951_fix_unicode_loadkeys_capslock.patch: When loading unicode key maps, apply KT_LETTER to values in the range a-z or A-Z rather than KT_LATIN. This seems to be necessary to make Caps Lock work properly. I don't really know C, but I was playing around with it a little bit. It seems like it shows the 640x400 splash screen, and that is the only resolution that appears black and white. [Bug 59946] Re: Admin tools require admin group membership
Patch for gnome-system-tools. It changes all *.desktop files to execute the frontend through gksu, and adds the 'X-KDE-SubstituteUID=true' flag, so that only administrators will see the programs in the menu (this is what it looked like in dapper). The patch to time-tool is necessary because it connects to the user's session dbus (no other g-s-t programs do), in order to poke the screensaver to not start when changing the time. Since root does not have a session bus when running though gksu, time-admin just hangs in current edgy when run as root. [Bug 74503] problems with choosing kashubian language in KDE kcontrol

[Bug 71789] Re: xend has open port
Who is expecting this? I personally don't expect that my xen Domains are able to be managed from somewhere else in the internet by connecting to the management port. For clarification: The command line tools from xen (xm) use TCP ICP mechanism (its XML and SOAP like) to issue the commands to xend. This mechanism is completely transparent, so nobody expects any TCP port. For any described commands the listen to the local port is sufficient.
