Re: [Bug 86938] Running apport-retrace in chroot
I've found schroot on LVM snapshots[1] much easier to use than pbuilder for doing my retraces. However, I know pitti has been working on incorporating support for fakechroot, which will be very cool. :) [1] https://help.ubuntu.com/community/SbuildLVMHowto -- Running apport-retrace in chroot https://launchpad.net/bugs/86938 -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 32067] Re: the security parameter must be set to share, not user, in smb.conf
I very much agree. It's one of the first things you do on a computer: look on the network and see what's connected. I remember thinking that anyone looking at ubuntu for the first time and trying this out would be very very disappointed that this does not work out-of-the-box. I didn't try changing the variable name in the initscript to MAILDIRPATH But it stands to reason that it should work no matter what the name is as long as the name in the init-script and the settingfiles are the same. [Bug 86970] Printing from Java does not work
Public bug reported: This applies to a current Feisty Fawn installation as of 2007-02-20. I have installed Java 1.6.0 using the Sun download packages. Printing from any java application (e.g. Netbeans, Jedit) to a CUPS printer does not work because the Java application complains about the printer not accepting jobs. However, the printer is accepting jobs and does work without problems from other applications. There is a workaround: when changing the printer name so that it does not contain hyphens (by editing /etc/cups/printers.conf) printing from Java applications does work. Unfortunately, printer names cannot be changed through the printers dialog from the control center. ** Affects: Ubuntu Importance: Undecided Status: Unconfirmed ** Tags added: java printing ** Description changed: This applies to a current Feisty Fawn installation as of 2007-02-20. [Bug 86975] Hard Disk Detection Failure During Installation - Ubuntu 6.06 LTS unable notify User about unavailable Hard Disk
Public bug reported: Hi Freinds, I would like to inform you people that while installing Ubuntu 6.06 from installation CD, I mistakenly forgot to Plug in Power chord of my Sata HardDrive. However, the Sytem Booted using the Installer CD and when I clicked on the install Icon, the installation process started. But the same hanged where the Disk partitioning section was to be loaded. The installer was unable to show the partitioner option as there was no Hard Drives (Although the drive data cable was plugged, but power cable was'nt). On this the installer process went on showing the progress circle swirling on, but was unable to notify me that there were no active Hard Drives attached/powered to the system. I think it would be better that if Hardware detection mechanism, searches for available active Hard Disks and notifies the same to the user, before actually installation process gets started. [Bug 84717] Re: SRU: updates necessary for Kubuntu Upgrade Tool in Edgy
kdelibs: - packaging looks good now - in this kpty.cpp patch snippet gotpty: + return _attachPty(d-masterFd); + + return true; +} the second return is unnecessary and looks confusing, but it's just cosmetical. - will the code alter the default behaviour in the function where this code snippet is from? _attachPty() does some additional things that the original function didn't do, in particular either grantpt(d-masterFd); or ::close(d-masterFd); this looks like if it would alter the current behaviour of unrelated programs. Can you elaborate about this, please (preferably in the changelog)? - are the kdwarnings displayed by default? this looks like left-over debugging stuff -- SRU: updates necessary for Kubuntu Upgrade Tool in Edgy https://launchpad.net/bugs/84717 -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 86976] shortcut folders don't show custom icons
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: nautilus This is the situation: - I have a music folder on my home directory, where I keep music albums, a folder for each. - For easier handling, each of these subfolders have a folder.jpg file inside, with the album cover. I have alt+clicked each of them, and set this jpg as their custom icon. Therefore, my music folder looks like this: http://img463.imageshack.us/img463/8267/pantallazomusicabo1.png -So, I created a shortcut on my desktop leading to this music folder. It would be logical for this folder to look exactly like its original, but this is what it looks like instead: http://img463.imageshack.us/img463/2896/pantallazomusica1gu7.png As you see only a handful of folders display their custom icons, and it's the ones I have set by hand. [Bug 32067] Re: the security parameter must be set to share, not user, in smb.conf
Hello Bart, All, this thing is over one year old now. As you can see by the heading: Affects Status Importance Assigned To samba (Ubuntu) Unconfirmed Wishlist — it is not confirmed ( !!! ) has no importance and is not even assigned to anybody. I think the best you can do, is try a shot upstream at gnome.org or samba.org, this problem is true for all distros I tried so far. Only Fedora had some GUI approach for this, alas it did not work for me ( FC6 ) In addition it is also a problem for cups and ldap as far as my experience goes. The best place to solve the issue in my view would be user management, where you could add for which product this user should be registered ( Samba, Cups, LDAP, etc. ) Casual -- the security parameter must be set to share, not user, in smb.conf https://launchpad.net/bugs/32067 -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Re: [Bug 83564] Re: Firefox crashes on click to focus
Sorry. Short on time to do all this. I've got both the gstreamer and xine versions of Totem installed, according to Synaptic, but that doesn't tell us anything about which plugin Firefox is using. I won't be able to retrace since the dump got overwritten by a subsequent crash. On 2/6/07, Alex Latchford [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: Hello Launchpad, Thank you for the bug report, this issue seems to be popping up a little recently, can you take a look at bugs: #70875 #72018 to see if they seem like a similar behaviour to the one you are experiencing? Also which Totem plug-in are you using? -gstreamer or -xine? (You can find out by looking in Synaptic). Also can I get you to retrace your crash report to include the debugging symbols. (Install the package firefox-dbg from synaptic/adept. Go to terminal run the command 'apport-retrace -d /var/crash /_usr_lib_firefox_firefox-bin.1000.crash', then reupload the resulting file.) We can then do something useful with that report as at the moment it doesn't tell us much. (Don't ask why you have to do this, we are working on it :)) Thanks again, Alex. ** Changed in: firefox (Ubuntu) Assignee: (unassigned) = Mozilla Team Status: Unconfirmed = Needs Info -- Firefox crashes on click to focus https://launchpad.net/bugs/83564 -- Firefox crashes on click to focus https://launchpad.net/bugs/83564 -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 59344] Re: TI Integrated FlashMedia Controller not working.
I was about to file bug about module not getting auto loaded and SD card not being auto mounted. But then I found this bug. In my case the bug is present on my dad's laptop HP NX6120 which has TI card reader, same as 'R. A. Rivas Diaz' and 'mempf'. Should I file bug for auto mount part? I can make the SD card work by loading the driver manually and mounting card manually. See my laptop testing report for the procedure I am using. https://wiki.ubuntu.com/LaptopTestingTeam/HPNX6120 I think a udev rule is missing for auto loading of module. I will try to write the rule next time I get hold if my Dad's laptop. i'm using kubuntu edgy with kde 3.5.6 and i still have this problem. my monitor never go into power saving mode which i set to kick in after 25 minutes.
