Re: [Bug 86938] Running apport-retrace in chroot

2007-02-22 Thread Kees Cook
I've found schroot on LVM snapshots[1] much easier to use than pbuilder
for doing my retraces. However, I know pitti has been working on
incorporating support for fakechroot, which will be very cool. :)

[Bug 86962] Herd 4 powerPC live disc -- funky colors on splash screen, boot screen

2007-02-22 Thread athauglas
Public bug reported:

Machine in question:

iMac G4 roundbase, 800MHz

Holding option key on startup allows booting from CD as it should, but
boot screen on the CD appears as red text on white background. Holding
C key on startup avoids this and gives the proper white on black. In
either case, the ubuntu splash screen colors are really weird. Doesn't
seem to affect system operation..

[Bug 86961] Firefox crashes when not restarting following installation of a new extension

2007-02-22 Thread brodie 1 kenobi
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: firefox

Occurred twice in a row (Image Zoom 2.7.0, and Show IP - I think.

After downloading and installing an Add-on (extension), I am prompted to
restart firefox (fine), however if I cancel (or close) the window and
try to continue browsing and adding extensions, Firefox crashes
immediately.

Firefox automatically then restarts.

A bug report is generated (but I don't know how to attach - this is my forst
report!).
I am using Ubuntu 6.10 in Safe Gnome mode (I have a problem with dbus -
daemon?, which may be related - but when I started adding Extensions today I
was able to add MANY, though I don't recall closing the add-on window)

I had the similar crash recently. Earlier I removed duplicate album
physically from my disc while kept playing the other copy. Then I went
to amarok and started removing those grayed songs by point-clicking and
pressing delete. Then it happened.

[Bug 32067] Re: the security parameter must be set to share, not user, in smb.conf

2007-02-22 Thread Bart Heinsius
I very much agree. It's one of the first things you do on a computer: look on
the network and see what's connected.
I remember thinking that anyone looking at ubuntu for the first time and trying
this out would be very very disappointed that this does not work
out-of-the-box. And I'm also very sure that no one except a linux nerd like
myself, would get it to work.

How can we raise priority?

regards Bart.

[Bug 86965] BNX2/Network breaks at normal output on SSH client (eg. 'top', 'ps faxww')

2007-02-22 Thread JaccoH

Binary package hint: linux-image-2.6.20-8-server

Install Ubuntu Edgy on Dell PowerEdge 2900 with BNX2 NICs. Install SSH and
access it. Use a command like TOP or PS FAXWW.
In my case this will crash the network operations of this server.

Work around:
Edit rc.local and add the line:
rmmod bnx2 /etc/init.d/networking stop modprobe bnx2
/etc/init.d/networking start /etc/init.d/ssh restart

This solves the issue. With out this line it will break BNX2/Network.

Re: [Bug 85512] Re: Networkmanager 0.6.4

2007-02-22 Thread Markus Markkanen
Hi!

Unfortunately I must now tell you that something went wrong with
networkmanager again. As I did some ATA-device configuration and changed
to static ip and back to dhcp again now networkmanager shows no network
connection. Network connection is OK, only networkmanager shows false
sign and does not show any connection information.

Since your configuration has now changed and what wasn't working is now
working I am going to close the bug. I am glad to hear it is working for
you and thank you for filing this bug.

[Bug 32067] Need Access Options on Samba Share Folder Dialog

2007-02-22 Thread Bart Heinsius
The title of this bug should be changed too I guess. I don't know if
this is the way it should be done, but I will try to change it to Need
Access Options on Samba Share Folder Dialog.

We need an interface when sharing a folder that somehow points the user to
adding a samba user.
I would think:

+---+
Path : /home/myuser/myFolderToShare
Share through: Windows networks (SMB)
Access : [ ] Everyone (read only)
[ ] Linux users and rights
[advanced]
+---+

Button [advanced] goes to a more advanced screen to setup samba users.

regards Bart.

Re: [Bug 86802] Re: Can't change location of maildir in courier-imap

2007-02-22 Thread LasseL
I didn't try changing the variable name in the initscript to MAILDIRPATH
But it stands to reason that it should work no matter what the name is
as long as the name in the init-script and the settingfiles are the same.
I changed the ones in the settingfiles so they match the init-scripts
since that was only one line in two files.

[Bug 86970] Printing from Java does not work

2007-02-22 Thread Johann Petrak
Public bug reported:

This applies to a current Feisty Fawn installation as of 2007-02-20.
I have installed Java 1.6.0 using the Sun download packages.

Printing from any java application (e.g. Netbeans, Jedit) to a CUPS
printer does not work because the Java application complains about the
printer not accepting jobs. However, the printer is accepting jobs and
does work without problems from other applications.

There is a workaround: when changing the printer name so that it does
not contain hyphens (by editing /etc/cups/printers.conf) printing from
Java applications does work. Unfortunately, printer names cannot be
changed through the printers dialog from the control center.

[Bug 68267] Re: x11-common is uninstallable when debconf method is kde

2007-02-22 Thread DavorCubranic
I still see this error on Kubuntu Feisty Herd 4, regardless of whether I
set debconf method to kde or dialog. It might be related to bug
69051, as my xorg.conf has changed, although my symptoms are like what's
reported here, not the partially blank debconf window they mention.

[Bug 86965] Re: BNX2/Network breaks at normal output on SSH client (eg. 'top', 'ps faxww')

2007-02-22 Thread JaccoH
** Description changed:

 Binary package hint: linux-image-2.6.20-8-server

Install Ubuntu Edgy on Dell PowerEdge 2900 with BNX2 NICs. Install SSH and
access it. Use a command like TOP or PS FAXWW.
In my case this will crash the network operations of this server.

 Work around:
Edit rc.local and add the line:
 rmmod bnx2 /etc/init.d/networking stop modprobe bnx2
/etc/init.d/networking start /etc/init.d/ssh restart

This solves the issue. With out this line it will break BNX2/Network.

[Bug 86975] Hard Disk Detection Failure During Installation - Ubuntu 6.06 LTS unable notify User about unavailable Hard Disk

2007-02-22 Thread Vicky
Public bug reported:

Hi Freinds,

I would like to inform you people that while installing Ubuntu 6.06 from
installation CD, I mistakenly forgot to Plug in Power chord of my Sata
HardDrive.

However, the Sytem Booted using the Installer CD and when I clicked on
the install Icon, the installation process started. But the same hanged
where the Disk partitioning section was to be loaded. The installer was
unable to show the partitioner option as there was no Hard Drives
(Although the drive data cable was plugged, but power cable was'nt). On
this the installer process went on showing the progress circle swirling
on, but was unable to notify me that there were no active Hard Drives
attached/powered to the system.

I think it would be better that if Hardware detection mechanism,
searches for available active Hard Disks and notifies the same to the
user, before actually installation process gets started.

Regards...
Vikas.

[Bug 84717] Re: SRU: updates necessary for Kubuntu Upgrade Tool in Edgy

2007-02-22 Thread Martin Pitt
kdelibs:
- packaging looks good now
- in this kpty.cpp patch snippet

 gotpty:
+ return _attachPty(d-masterFd);
+
+ return true;
+}

the second return is unnecessary and looks confusing, but it's just
cosmetical.

- will the code alter the default behaviour in the function where this
code snippet is from? _attachPty() does some additional things that the
original function didn't do, in particular either grantpt(d-masterFd);
or ::close(d-masterFd); this looks like if it would alter the current
behaviour of unrelated programs. Can you elaborate about this, please
(preferably in the changelog)?

- are the kdwarnings displayed by default? this looks like left-over
debugging stuff

[Bug 86976] shortcut folders don't show custom icons

2007-02-22 Thread David Prieto
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: nautilus

This is the situation:

- I have a music folder on my home directory, where I keep music
albums, a folder for each.

- For easier handling, each of these subfolders have a folder.jpg file
inside, with the album cover. I have alt+clicked each of them, and set
this jpg as their custom icon. Therefore, my music folder looks like
this:

http://img463.imageshack.us/img463/8267/pantallazomusicabo1.png

-So, I created a shortcut on my desktop leading to this music folder. It
would be logical for this folder to look exactly like its original, but
this is what it looks like instead:

http://img463.imageshack.us/img463/2896/pantallazomusica1gu7.png

As you see only a handful of folders display their custom icons, and
it's the ones I have set by hand. The rest show the usual folder icon.
They should have inherited the custom icons from their real
counterparts, but they didn't.

[Bug 32067] Re: the security parameter must be set to share, not user, in smb.conf

2007-02-22 Thread casualprogrammer
Hello Bart, All,

this thing is over one year old now. As you can see by the heading:

Affects Status Importance
Assigned To
samba (Ubuntu) Unconfirmed Wishlist —

it is not confirmed ( !!! ) has no importance and is not even assigned
to anybody.

I think the best you can do, is try a shot upstream at gnome.org or
samba.org, this problem is true for all distros I tried so far. Only
Fedora had some GUI approach for this, alas it did not work for me ( FC6
)

In addition it is also a problem for cups and ldap as far as my
experience goes. The best place to solve the issue in my view would be
user management, where you could add for which product this user should
be registered ( Samba, Cups, LDAP, etc. )

I confirm that everything is ok now (using beryl).
But I cannot really understand why I cannot use the autodetect mode in
gstreamer-properties. If I force the video to no-xv my cpu is completely used
when I play a video! instead if I use the autodetect it stays between 20-30%
(but the video is black with compiz/beryl, so I did the cpu tests under
metacity)

Re: [Bug 83564] Re: Firefox crashes on click to focus

2007-02-22 Thread Launchpad
Sorry. Short on time to do all this.

I've got both the gstreamer and xine versions of Totem installed, according
to Synaptic, but that doesn't tell us anything about which plugin Firefox is
using. I won't be able to retrace since the dump got overwritten by a
subsequent crash.

On 2/6/07, Alex Latchford [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote:

Hello Launchpad,

Thank you for the bug report, this issue seems to be popping up a little
recently, can you take a look at bugs: #70875 #72018 to see if they seem
like a similar behaviour to the one you are experiencing?

Also which Totem plug-in are you using? -gstreamer or -xine? (You can
find out by looking in Synaptic).

Also can I get you to retrace your crash report to include the debugging
symbols. (Install the package firefox-dbg from synaptic/adept. Go to
terminal run the command 'apport-retrace -d /var/crash
/_usr_lib_firefox_firefox-bin.1000.crash', then reupload the resulting
file.)

We can then do something useful with that report as at the moment it
doesn't tell us much. (Don't ask why you have to do this, we are working
on it :))

Thanks again, Alex.

[Bug 59344] Re: TI Integrated FlashMedia Controller not working.

2007-02-22 Thread Onkar Shinde
I was about to file bug about module not getting auto loaded and SD card not
being auto mounted. But then I found this bug.
In my case the bug is present on my dad's laptop HP NX6120 which has TI card
reader, same as 'R. A. Rivas Diaz' and 'mempf'.

Should I file bug for auto mount part? I can make the SD card work by
loading the driver manually and mounting card manually. See my laptop
testing report for the procedure I am using.
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/LaptopTestingTeam/HPNX6120

I think a udev rule is missing for auto loading of module. I will try to
write the rule next time I get hold if my Dad's laptop. But I don't know
how the auto mount works.
