[Bug 84616] Re: Low Audio Volume/other audio problems with Lenovo 3000 C200
I have the same laptop with no sound. At me even the acpi=ht does not help. The chip is Realtek ID 862. (Intel HDA compatible). I tried: Ubuntu 6.06, 610, SUSE 0.2. The alsamixer showes me only a single MASTER chanel. I compiled the newest ALSA and the supported linux driver from Realtek. (Unfortunatelly the chip 862 is not found in the supported list.) After the compilation the alsamixer showed the MASTER and PCM chanels. But the sound does not work. (The hardware is good, because I tested it XP.) Has anybody any idea, what to try yet? [Bug 41105] Re: [dapper] totem-xine and xine can't play some .asf files correctly
OK I have extracted the URL to the stream in question (so other folks won't have to go and install flash and battle the web site to test this). The URL is mmsh://live.mediaserver.kataweb.it/retea?MSWMExt=.asf . On Feisty the video (images and sound) work on xine-ui with the ffmpeg codecs installed. There is no longer a need for the w32codecs to be installed in order to see this. With gstreamer-totem the play area remains black even after buffering finishes and there is no sound (although there does appear to be network activity). The following is produced on the console: $ totem 'mmsh://live.mediaserver.kataweb.it/retea?MSWMExt=.asf' (totem:20239): Gtk-WARNING **: Attempting to add `mmsh://live.mediaserver.kataweb.it/retea?MSWMExt=.asf' to the list of recently used resources, but not MIME type was defined 0:00:05.837002000 20239 0x863c400 ERROR ffmpeg :0:: warning: first frame is no keyframe Nicolò: The original problem described in this bug report (xine can't play this asf) has probably been fixed in feisty. [Bug 89621] Problem when headless during boot
Public bug reported: After installing Feisty Herd-5 Desktop on an AMD64 box, I didn't have a keyboard or display connected during boot. When I did later connect the keyboard and video, I did get the GNOME desktop (albeit 800x600), but none of the virtual consoles 1-6, nor 8 (Ctrl-Alt-F1 through Ctrl- Alt-F6, and Ctrl-Alt-F8) would display any text. The consoles appeared to respond to keyboard input, because Ctrl-Alt-Del restarted the system, but I never saw any text displayed. I then rebooted again without keyboard and monitor and got the same results. To confirm, I tried several more times. In doing so, I noticed that if I reconnected the keyboard and display too soon, the GNOME desktop was not yet visible and appeared to still be loading (taking much longer than when started with keyboard and display connected). [Bug 89627] Feisty alternate installer random crashes on Abit KU8 ULI M1689 M/B
Public bug reported: Problems experienced in installing from Feisty alternate i386 CD (both Herds 2 and 5 tried). It's a truly random crash/reboot situation... sometime it will go a long way though the installation before crashing, other times it will crash as soon as the installation environment's kernel has been loaded, before the frame buffer has been enabled. Very infrequently one gets a kernel panic. Everything in the system except CD-ROM drive, CPU, and RAM has been swapped out. RAM has been tested via memtest86. So that narrows it down to either a motherboard hardware problem, or a software problem. The motherboard is an Abit KU8 (ULI M1689 chipset) with AMD 2GHz socket 754 processor. However it is now happily running Ubuntu 6.06, installed from the AMD64 alternate CD. It seems that some of the hardware is not supported by 6.06, so perhaps this is where there is either a hardware problem, or the hardware support in the Fiesty installer kernel is defective. ** Affects: Ubuntu Importance: Undecided Status: Unconfirmed -- Feisty alternate installer random crashes on Abit KU8 ULI M1689 M/B https://launchpad.net/bugs/89627 -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

A couple of things/differences I noted whilst reading through your logs: - The Xorg.0.log from Herd5 mentions it can't initialize the GLX extensions, since it is using the Nvidia libglx.so Might this be the cause? - In the Xorg.0.log from Herd5 AIGLX is disabled (since it can't load the GLX module) - The Xorg.0.log from Herd5 mentions it loads a vm86 module (libvm86.so), which isn't loaded in the Herd4 log. [Bug 74877] Re: regression: suspend does not work on hp nw8240 with feisty
Okay, the patch already was in the kernel source (release 2.6.20-9) and it is also enabled in linux-image-2.6.20-9-generic. However it does not seem to help for this problem. I also disabled the libata_piix driver completely, so the PATA only piix was used again, but resuming still did not work. The following procedure fixed the problem for me: 1. Disable the libata_piix kernel module (CONFIG_ATA_PIIX) 2. Apply the patch from http://marc.theaimsgroup.com/?l=linux-idem=116916643921306 , one line of the patch fails, it can easily be patched manually (just a line in the IDE makefile) 3. Activate the new CONFIG_BLK_DEV_IDEACPI kernel option 4. Compile and install the kernel and create a matching Initrd (update-initramfs) Standby now works like before and the new kernel finally fixes bug #21574 (speakers do not work after suspending). Unfortunately I have no idea how this could make its way into Feisty. Disabling libata_piix is probably not an option, since it also covers Intel SATA controllers, which are not covered by the plain old piix driver. Still, the IDE ACPI patch should be added! This (or a similiar) patch has been in Ubuntu kernels for some time now and I cannot understand why it was not applied to the new Feisty kernels anymore. The right way probably is to fix this libata ACPI code. I think that there is some function that is needed on this HP notebooks during resume, that the new libata ACPI functions do not call yet. However I don't think that this could make its way into Feisty, could it? [Bug 89586] Re: partitioning fails during install (herd 5 kub alt)
To add to my earlier comment re my Compaq Evo N1020v - Having installed Edgy and used dist-upgrade to overcome the problems I was having with the herd 5 cd - I found the grub menu.lst to be corrupted by the dist- upgrade. It was now trying to boot /dev/hd5 instead of /dev/hd8 which the Edgy install had earlier detected and set correctly as the root partition. I ran grub-install and grub-update from rescue mode and it started working as the relevent ext3 partition was now being identified in menu.lst by its disc id and not in /dev/hd* notation. I am assuming this, like the issues with the herd cds, was down to the three windows partitions already on this machine creating problems with the feisty install/upgrade process. -- partitioning fails during install (herd 5 kub alt) https://launchpad.net/bugs/89586 -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 89633] [Feisty] Nvidia installation on GeforceFX5200 buggy

Re: [Bug 73104] Re: apport causes Python interpreter to segfault
Hi, Matthias Klose [2007-03-03 15:00 -]: Martin, do we really need the Procmaps stuff when the only thing we have is a interpreter exception? Usually not, but in corner cases it might be helpful (loading additional libraries/plugins at runtime, etc.). Does it hurt to have it in the reports? -- apport causes Python interpreter to segfault https://launchpad.net/bugs/73104 -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 89629] Re: No local (e.g.:USB, SCSI, Parallel) backends available
This is what I do in general to setup printing: Turn on printer. dmesg to see if printer is detected and lsusb to list it. usblp was modprobed, so kernel side should be okay. Then start a Tool to configure cups. This is kprinter or browser-http://localhost:631. Add a printer. You are offered a list of backends: Normally there should be USB, Parallel, SCSI etc. None of them is listed, just SAMBA. Without those local backenda NO printing is possible. ANYWAY: I just found the bug. /usr/lib/cups/backend consists only : bluetooth,hp, hpfax and ../../../bin/smbclient. So I copied /usr/lib/cups/backend-available/usb to /usr/lib/cups/backend and everything works like expected. Looks like the cupsys package isn't copying/linking all backends. Hope this helps to reproduce and fix the bug. -- No local (e.g.:USB, SCSI, Parallel) backends available https://launchpad.net/bugs/89629 -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 89568] Re: Trying to report a Kubuntu Upgrade Issue
Sorry, but I have noticed in this moment that package update-manager is not installed by default in Kubuntu. You need to install this package before the upgrade following the procedure that you have reported. [Bug 89550] Re: Feisty hangs during boot
** Description changed: Couldn't find anything about this particular problem here so, here goes. When I boot from both a Feisty Herd 5 live-cd or a 6.10 dist-upgraded to Feisty Ubuntu the bootup hangs at Configuring network interfaces and after about 5 minutes I get a IRQ error (nobody cared) on IRQ 7. Both i386 and AMD64 Herd 5 versions display the same error. Edgy works fine though. This means I cannot install or even upgrade to Herd 5 at all. + Tried disabling both NICs in BIOS, turned on PnP OS and Ctrl+C at + the prompt, starting with noapic nolapic irqpoll option, but still a + no go. + Sys Specs: - Asus M2N32-SLI Deluxe + Asus M2N32-SLI Deluxe (latest bios) AMD X2 3800 Ati X1600XT SB Audigy 2 NEC 7173 Plextor 708A 4x Seagate 7200.10 on onboard SATA -- Feisty hangs during boot https://launchpad.net/bugs/89550 -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
