Hi ccc1,
you're right, this bug is pretty annoying, but as I mentioned above, you could
use k3b instead, 'cause it warns you of too long file names AND shorten them
afterwards...;-)

[Bug 24828] Re: IPv6 should be disabled by default

2007-04-03 Thread Thomas Butter
Link local addresses aren't limited to just link diagnostics, also
when using avahi/zeroconf, you may well have dns for just the local link.

I am no avahi expert so I could be wrong. I think avahi/zeroconf only
uses the dns protocol, but won't use the glibc name resolution functions
with link local addresses. So this use case won't affect the Vista/OS X
like name resolution.

The relevant changes in glibc 2.5 are address sorting related. I don't think
it allows disabling queries in gai.conf

From glibc NEWS:

* For Linux, the sorting of addresses returned by getaddrinfo now also
handles rules 3, 4, and 7 from RFC 3484. I.e., all rules are handled.
  Implemented by Ulrich Drepper.

* Allow system admin to configure getaddrinfo with the /etc/gai.conf file.
  Implemented by Ulrich Drepper.

[Bug 99938] Re: All files in Banshee end with a comma

2007-04-03 Thread Chris Halse Rogers
This bug affects all mp3s I've downloaded from emusic. It's triggered
by files using standard-breaking null-termination of ID3v2 tags, making
taglib think there's another field.

I've attached this to the upstream bug. There's a patch attached to
that bug; I'll try to get a debdiff with that patch up soon.

[Bug 102232] lvm initialization hangs during boot or when running /etc/init.d/lvm start

2007-04-03 Thread Pierfrancesco Caci
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: lvm-common

Updated system yesterday (2007.04.02), relevant updated packages were
lvm-common, mdadm and udev.
While the update finally seems to have fixed a long standing race condition in
mdadm preventing boot,
it seems to have broken lvm. The system will freeze at lvm start (right after
turning up the parport).
If I interrupt the process (alt-sysrq-e) I can do a mount -a and it will find
all the volumes correctly. From that point on,
I can resume the boot process by forcing a telinit 1; telinit 2

Also, running /etc/init.d/lvm start seems to hang at the same point.

[Bug 102233] Bad screen definition on laptop 1280 x 800

Hi
Note : Excuse me for my poor English, I'm French.

So, I tried 7.04 RC (live CD session) on my Dell 630m laptop which has as

I've seen on the net there is a way to change it and tried it but no effect in
live mode.

It seems that a lot of laptops are concerned, is it not possible to
integrate the correction natively in Ubuntu ?

Note : Good job, I succeeded connecting my laptop via WiFi (with WAP
key) quite easily !

I am no avahi expert so I could be wrong. I think avahi/zeroconf only
uses the dns protocol, but won't use the glibc name resolution functions
with link local addresses. So this use case won't affect the Vista/OS X
 like name resolution.

Well, I am ;)

I was talking about situations where you could be using a link local IP,
that is in DNS, where you may not have a default route.

Case in point was Avahi which can make use of link local IPs which you
can then get at with DNS using the libnss-mdns, having said that given
the interface specification stuff, they are relatively useless unless
your using the Avahi API directly which allows you to get the interface
along with the name.

Cheers,

[Bug 102235] Feisty behaves strangely under file IO load

2007-04-03 Thread Erik Hill
Public bug reported:

Feisty Beta version. Under high file IO load (such as during an OS
update), the system will crawl. Music will skip, firefox will freeze,
all other apps will freeze. Finally, after several minutes, if the
memory use is high, the system will freeze as a whole and no other
operation is possible (mouse pointer included). Edgy did not have this
problem.

To reproduce for me, I simply need to run several programs (firefox,
Update Manager, ktorrent, totem). I have 512MB, this problem usually
appears when I have swap shut off. It isn't purely running out of
memory, because I can routinely do exactly the same activity (with swap
off) in Edgy and get only a mild slowdown, whereas Feisty hangs. It
appears to be going slower and slower until you have to wait 5 or six
_minutes_ to, for example, switch to a console.

I realize that this bug report is somewhat useless, I've tried to come
up with a clearer way of reproducing the bug, but can't do it. With
this bug, Feisty is unusable to me.

Same problem here, running on nvidia TI 4200 9631 binary driver. Originally I
had no problems, but through endless tweaking I managed to activate this
feature.
For me disabling Mipmap option in the Desktop plugin for compiz helped.

Open gconf-editor
select Apps -- Compiz --- Plugins --- Decoration --- All Screens ---
Options
deselect MipMap.

Like I said seems to help me. Hope this helps others.

[Bug 102240] eclipse crashed while I was trying to install a few addons through their updater.

2007-04-03 Thread Erik Leif Anderson
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: eclipse

- I'm running Feisty, accepting any updates offered, so I don't know if it is
still at beta 1.
- Beryl was running at the time.
- I ran Eclipse from the Applications menu.
- In Eclipse I went to Help-Software Updates-Find and Install
- Everything went smooth for a while. I selected some mirrors and then
selected a few things to install. Don't want to crash again while I'm writing
this right now - I'll try to go back and get more specific.
- It looked like Eclipse had finished downloading and started to install the
jars when it crashed.
- At the time of the crash, the screen had started to dim for the screen saver.
I shook the mouse to stop the screen saver and it crashed.
- If launchpad lets me add more later I'll try to reproduce the steps.
- Could be an Eclipse bug, not Feisty.

I go to language support under administration, I can click the dash on
Finnish to change it to a checkmark. However, clicking either OK or
Apply just resets it back to a dash.

[Bug 100064] Re: Expand easy codec installation

2007-04-03 Thread Romain Despland
I also would like to vote for this wishlist. I installed for the first
time Ubuntu (feisty) on another computer and everything was done with
the mouse easily, that is mp3 support (just by using totem), divx,
nvidia install using driver manager I think, samba sharing, ..

But in Kubuntu nothing seems to work like that, not enough developpers
for Kubuntu ?

[Bug 101901] Localization bugs on install cd

2007-04-03 Thread Hanno Boeck
Public bug reported:

Hi, I'll attach a screenshot which shows a bunch of localization-bugs on
the Kubuntu (probably the same on Ubuntu) beta live/install-cd for
feisty. With german language, but probably applies to other languages as
well.

* Detail-Window: First paragraph is completely english.
* Buttons: Back, Next, Cancel, Advanced - english descriptions
* Time: Doesn't honour timezone set in installer (very confusing to have two
times)
* Date: Date format not adjusted to settings
* (not in image) Install-Icon on Desktop has description Install, even if
language has already be chosen in the bootmanager

[Bug 102074] Re: Pyrex in Feisty is broken for Python 2.5

2007-04-03 Thread Matthias Klose
a quick upgrade breaks at least the build of pyspi; didn't check the
packages with python-pyrex as a build dependency in universe. You can
find test packages at

   http://people.ubuntu.com/~doko/tmp/

an alternative might be to backport the exception class stuff from 0.9.5
to 0.9.4.

Thanks for this report. If you know how to reproduce this problem, follow these
instructions (https://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingProgramCrash) and attach the
backtrace to this report.
However this bug seems very similar to bug 94686.
Thanks for your collaboration.

[Bug 102242] URL not found when enabling userewrite

2007-04-03 Thread Ivo Mans
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: dokuwiki

After installing the package going to the configuration page inside dokuwiki I
set the 'userewrite' setting. This results in a system that only displays 404
Not Found / URL /usr/share/dokuwiki/doku.php was not found.
So user is not able to do anything through the webinterface anymore.

My workaround after experiencing this:
Manually edit /usr/share/dokuwiki/.htaccess to get this functionality working.
Not only uncommenting the RewirteRule lines but also modifying the last 2
RewriteRule lines into
  RewriteRule (.*) /dokuwiki/doku.php?id=$1 [QSA,L]
  RewriteRule ^index.php$ /dokuwiki/doku.php

A simple change in configuration settings on a webpage shouldn't block
the complete dokuwiki site. At least show some warning before applying
this change.
