[Bug 85610] Re: XTerm and RXVT crashes on startup.

2007-04-11 Thread Alexander Darovsky
This happens in any application which calls XOpenIM() function.
It tries to open /usr/share/X11/locale/YourLocale/Compose in
infinite recursion. Copying /usr/share/X11/locale/YourLocale
from old distro solved the problem.

[Bug 89189] Re: Some windows do not render with Desktop Effects enabled on some hardware

2007-04-11 Thread Michael Trausch
That sounds like an issue with i810. I know that I have had that
problem (with various other things, not directly with Desktop Effects)
on an i810 setup with my Toshiba laptop. For example, sometimes
switching from dual-head to single-head and back would make it so that a
reboot was required before the X server would start back up again.
X.org 7.2 seemed to fix most of those problems, though. Just a comment
on the situation.

[Bug 105384] [feisty] Poweroff and reboot not working

2007-04-11 Thread Fredrik Vraalsen
Public bug reported:

My computer is unable to reboot or power off after I upgraded from edgy
to feisty. I was originally running edgy on amd64, and it stopped
working when I updated to feisty a while back. I did a fresh reinstall
of the whole system using a feisty i386 image (can't remember exactly
which herd CD it was) and poweroff and reboot seemed to work a couple of
times but then it stopped working again.

I disabled the splash screen to see the console output while powering
down, and it just hangs after sending all processes the KILL signal. I
have several file systems mounted via NFS, as well as an XFS and NTFS
file system (the root file system is ext3).

The computer is a Shuttle SN27P2 with an Athlon X2 3800 CPU and an MSI
GeForce 7600GS graphics card.

The output of uname -a is 'Linux Strider 2.6.20-14-generic #2 SMP Mon
Apr 2 20:37:49 UTC 2007 i686 GNU/Linux'. I'll attach the dmesg, lspci

[Bug 105385] nvidia-glx-new X.org driver modprobes nivida, not nvidia_new

2007-04-11 Thread Martin Pitt
Public bug reported:

This morning my X did not start any more, it complained that userland
needed nvidia ABI 97XX, but the kernel provided 96xx.

The reason is (after some manual experiments) that the X.org driver
module modprobes the 'nvidia' kernel module instead of 'nvidia_new'.
Manually modprobing the latter and starting gdm works then.

[Bug 105386] booting problem after upgrade

2007-04-11 Thread Petr Ferschmann
Public bug reported:

I have a Thinkpad X31 laptop. I upgraded from edgy to feisty. I am using
Lilo, LVM and XFS. After upgrade the system stopped booting.

Every time I end in initramfs and I have to write:

modprobe piix
modprobe ide-disk
evms_activate
mount /dev/evms/lvm2/Main/data /root -t xfs

first command is to load IDE driver.
Second to read partitions table from disk
Third to start LVM

I tried to add the both modprobes to /etc/initramfs-tools/modules and
run update-initramfs -u but it didn't help.

[Bug 84931] Re: Various icons don't have a 16x16 icon size

2007-04-11 Thread VF
Yes, I think that's all.

However (and I'm not sure if I should file a seperate bug for this or
not), the new 16x16 icons appear to be just resized while the old 16x16
icons seem to be manually tweaked so they look good at such a low
resolution. You can see this if you right click in nautilus, the 'Create
folder' and 'create document' icons look different, the star/asterisk
part, that is.

[Bug 61946] Re: [Edgy Data Loss] umount progress dialog missing

2007-04-11 Thread Frode M . Døving
OK.

New proposal:

Get http://ubuntu.lnix.net/misc/kio_umountwrapper
and http://ubuntu.lnix.net/misc/media_safelyremove.desktop

chmod +x kio_umountwrapper and copy to /usr/bin/
media_safelyremove.desktop replaces
/usr/share/apps/konqueror/servicemenus/media_safelyremove.desktop
(remember to backup).

kio_umountwrapper is a simple kdialog shellscript that executed
kio_media_mounthelper -s.
This only adds the progress dialog, it does not remove any errors from the
default behavior.
With this the dialogbox appears instantly.

[Bug 105387] sound doesnot work

2007-04-11 Thread maax
Public bug reported:

The volume control icon is showing the muted symbol always. There is no
way to unmute it. On right clicking m I can see mute/

Also, I am running ubuntu 6.10 inside vmware server. Vmware server is running
on windows vista business.
Is there any way you can help.
It says that The volume control did not find any elements and/or devices to
control. This means either that you don't have the right GStreamer plugins
installed, or that you don't have a sound card configured.

You can remove the volume control from the panel by right-clicking the
speaker icon on the panel and selecting Remove From Panel from the
menu.

[Bug 105389] External usb Mouse Stops responding when holding down a key on the keyboard.

2007-04-11 Thread BlueSky
Public bug reported:

I have Installed Feisty Fawn 7.04 on to my MacBook Pro and every thing
seems to work fin till I Connected a external Keyboard and Mouse. I am
only able to use the mouse, when I am not using the keyboard. The Dose
not happen to my other PCs running Ubuntu.

This dose not seem problematic till I attempt to use STEAM to play FPS
or every other game i have. The strange thing is that i am able to use
the touch pad and the keyboard at the same time since the touch pad dose
not lock up like the external usb mouse.

I have also have tried other mouse and keyboards but no luck. I think it
has to do with the built in keyboard and touch pad on the MacBook Pro.

Is there any way i can fix this problem?

[Bug 102408] Re: Evince opens ALSA library

2007-04-11 Thread Ulrich Hobelmann
This was Ubuntu 6.10. It was only that one time that my sound device
couldn't be opened (I think some non-Ubuntu app was accessing the device
directly and blocked it), so I don't know where else it might happen.

I had logs for this problem, but they were corrupt so I couldn't

2-hour long fixing that essentially removed all files from the hard
drive.

[Bug 105390] window manager crashes/does not work

2007-04-11 Thread shirishag75
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: metacity-common

Hi all,
I am using Gnome. After todays updates, I cannot get the window
decorations to work. The only way I can do so is by going to virtual terminal
(ALT+F1) or (CTRL+ALT+F1) and typing there DISPLAY=:0 metacity --replace

I am using the experimental 1.9.93 driver provided by Timo
things were working well before.

https://launchpad.net/bugs/90213 . This one is reproducible each time
every time. Please lemme know if you require any info.

[Bug 105392] Evolution Mail Handling w. Virtual Folders

2007-04-11 Thread Ralf
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: evolution

Hi Ubuntu Team,

When trying to mark the virtual folder Other Emails (in French 'autres
couuriels) as READ, the correspondance between buttons and functions are
inversed. One has to choose NOT to mark the mail as read to get them
marked as read.

Maybe it's just a misfit due to the localization team.

A long and joyful life to Linux and the community!

Best wishes from South-Eastern France,

Ralf

[Bug 71130] Re: libnss-ldap doesn't insert some of the debconf settings into /etc/libnss-ldap.conf

2007-04-11 Thread prismatic7
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 69334 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/69334

at least partially confirmed on a new install of edgy:

My notes are as follows:

libnss-ldap does not appear to work correctly with
 debconf: the line

 base dc=your,dc=base,dc=name

is set to dc=padl,dc=com and remains so. This may be permissions-based.
 This breaks all ldap authentication.

removing the ###DEBCONF### line and correcting the search base manually seems
 to
 fix this.

I'm not clever enough with debconf magic to fix it though.

[Bug 105393] loosing network connection on upgrade of network-manager

2007-04-11 Thread LGB [Gábor Lénárt]
Public bug reported:

Just upgraded network-manager to 0.6.4-6ubuntu5 on an i386 box through a
remote ssh connection, and network-manager seems to unconfigure my eth0
interface which is set up by /etc/network/interfaces (iface eth0 inet
static). I think this is very dangerous behaviour since this move made
my machine off-line, no upgrade should make a move like this at least
without a big fat warning. Also, at home my AMD64 box lost its IP though
it has DHCP configured IP from the wireless router.

[Bug 2019] Re: Mrtg's html documentation lacks two images

2007-04-11 Thread Christian Reis
The HTML docs I have are installed into /usr/share/doc/mrtg/html. I'm
not sure how this is exposed traditionally to the web but I added a
symlink to iit from a web-available directory. I'm talking about Dapper
MRTG: 2.12.2-1. I'm not sure if these docs are still in Feisty.

Interestingly enough a mrtg-ti.png file is indeed included in the
distribution in /var/www/mrtg, but it's not available in the HTML docs
directory (where a .gif file exists). This seems to be a bit of a mess!

I have no idea where that image is supposed to be found, but:

I see a uuencoded copy is attached to unrelated message
http://groups.google.com/group/comp.dcom.net-
management/msg/79f10e72fe1009af

I'm not the first to encounter this:
