[Bug 106100] Feisty: Incorrectly identifies hd as sd (eg hda1 - sda1)

2007-04-13 Thread Jonathan Musther
Public bug reported:

Feisty has my standard IDE drives (usually hda and hdc) listed as sda
and sdb.

My arrangement is usually (or should be):

Pri-Master - hda 40gb (has hda1 as swap and hda2 as /)
Pri-Slave - hdb CD-RW/DVD-ROM
Sec-Master - hdc 250gb (has hdca as /home)
Sec-Slave - hdd CD-RW/DVD-RW

Feisty created my /etc/fstab as follows:

# file system mount point type options dump pass
proc/proc procdefaults0 0
# /dev/sda2
UUID=817212c9-5326-4564-a922-02c968ff03ae /   ext3
defaults,errors=remount-ro 0 1
# /dev/sdb1
UUID=43ebc5ff-f943-4fae-b230-6b13fc316b72 /home   ext3defaults
  0 2
# /dev/sda1
UUID=fb339463-7add-4014-b675-aa9ecfd1fac0 noneswapsw
  0 0
/dev/scd0 /media/cdrom0 udf,iso9660 user,noauto 0 0
/dev/scd1 /media/cdrom1 udf,iso9660 user,noauto 0 0
/dev/fd0/media/floppy0 autorw,user,noauto 0 0

Oddly this seems to be working as far as my hard drives are concerned,
but my optical drives do all kinds of odd things, sometimes visible,
sometimes not, sometimes they'll mount, sometimes not, sometimes they'll
burn, sometimes not.

I did change my fstab to reflect the 'correct' configuration, and it
worked (about a week ago), but since installing the latest updates it
doesn't.

[Bug 105405] Re: kino 1.0.0

2007-04-13 Thread Peter Funk
I've compiled the unmodified upstream kino 1.0.0 on Ubuntu 6.10 (Edgy Eft)
using
the simple approach: upacking the tarball, ./configure --sysconfdir=/etc
--enable-quicktime
make ; sudo make install

Unfortunately the program reproducible crashes with Segmentation Fault, if I do
certain things which used to work with kino 0.9.0 :

 ...
  0: XV_IMAGE, 2046x2046 rate = 1/1

 Kino experienced a segmentation fault.
Dumping stack from the offending thread

 Obtained 2 stack frames.
 kino [0x80814b1]
 [0xe420]

 Done dumping - exiting.

If I can help doing tests or provide more data, please tell me so.

Peter Funk

Many graphics cards with NVIDIA chips have two video outputs.
The driver attempts to autodetect which one the monitor is con‐
nected to. In the case that autodetection picks the wrong one,
this option may be used to force usage of a particular output.
The options are 0 or 1. Default: autodetected.

so you could try setting:

Re: [Bug 105898] langpack download slow, poor progress indication

2007-04-13 Thread Ian Jackson
Ian Jackson writes ([Bug 105898] langpack download slow, poor progress
indication):
I was installing in German using ubiquity from the i386 20070412 livecd.
During final stages of the installation, it told me it was installing
the language pack but this took an unreasonably long time with no change
to the UI. I'm afraid I don't have a screenshot but if I remember
correctly there was no subsidiary progress text. There was no
indication of any progress at all.

I'm now doing an install in French and I see
Telechargement des pachets linguistiques (4:42 ...)
with a clock counting down.

This is good (although it makes a mockery of the progress bar) and I'm
pretty sure not what I saw in my earlier German install. LP is
working a lot better now. So if there's an LP query at the start of
langpack setup then I think this bug was due to LP operational
difficulties.

If you want any information from the German install in question (eg,
installer logs) please let me know because I'll probably wipe it
soon ...

Ian.

[Bug 105386] Re: booting problem after upgrade

2007-04-13 Thread Petr Ferschmann
Still same.

I now have kernel 2.6.20-14-generic. I tried to remove content from /etc
/initramfs-tools/modules. And I really still have to call all the
commands (loading modules, evms_start AND mounting the root directory -
without it it returns me back to shell).

I think the real problems is in the modules loading - the IDE driver is
not loaded at all.

[Bug 106102] Laptop won't boot after kernel update to 2.6.20-14

2007-04-13 Thread Jan Stedehouder
Public bug reported:

I updated Feisty Fawn this morning (via Synaptic) and did a regular reboot.
There is a new entry in GRUB for a new kernel 2.6.20-14 generic, but that one
won't boot the laptop. Instead I see the following error message:
[9.72.] ata1.00: revalidation failed (errno= -19)

Machine specifications:
Acer Aspire 3681 WXMi, 512 MB DDR2 RAM, Intel Celeron M 410, Mobile Intel 940
GML Express Chipset, 802.11 b/g wifi

I can still boot into the laptop using the 2.6.20-13 generic kernel, so
I have to assume that the problem is related to the new kernel.

[Bug 99909] Re: Ubuntu 7.04 doesn't find raid 5 drive on megaraid card

2007-04-13 Thread gocin
Hi Brian, sorry for the delay!

I used 7.04 i386 desktop beta release and also tried 7.04 i386 beta
server both did't work.

Using Sarge 3.1 R0 works using Kernel 2.4.? - I also read, that the older
distris (using the older Kernel?) are
working on the megaraid i4 - also my SuSe 9.0 did, the 9.3 did not... .

At the moment I'm using Debian Sarge, but I'd like to use Ubuntu,
because my thre other Computers are running Dapper.

Maybe this behaviour could be resolved compiling the kernel with the megaraid
driver? But that's not possible for me because
I want to install on a raid 5 so I need the raid to be recognized from
scratch... .

Best regards,

Nico.

[Bug 87340] Re: http install looking for wrong file version

Confirmed here too. The above solution is not practical on a production
network where other workstations need to access the network. The above
solution would involve physically moving the machine to a separate
network and may not be practical in many situations.

[Bug 106103] Resume partition not configured by default

2007-04-13 Thread CJSoft UK
Public bug reported:

A default install of Feisty does not automagically create a resume=
parameter into the menu.lst file for Grub.

This causes problems on hibernation, when the system hibernates but does

Fix is to automatically add resume={swap partition} to the kernel
options. (No UUIDs allowed)

Same here. This kernel version is completely busted about sata module !
:(

I had a fully working system since feisty beta, and this morning, after
I've done the daily upgrade, I was asked to reboot. And my system
doesn't boot anymore.

I am using feisty AMD64 on a K8M800 motherboard with an AMD Sempron
3100+ (K8 core). (Acer Aspire T135).

Here is the log I got at the end of the failed boot :

Check root = bootarg cat /proc/cmdline
or missing modules, devices: cat /proc/modules ls /dev

ALERT /dev/disk UUID=c54bb6e8f-4acb-8f24-6ca8ba911704 doesn't exist.
Dropping to a shell

And then, busybox.

By luck, I made a backup of my data yesterday. Seems like Friday 13th
April 2007 is not a good day for ubuntu feisty fawn !

Re: [Bug 105531] /var/lib/os-prober/mount briefly appears on desktop

2007-04-13 Thread Ian Jackson
Ian Jackson writes ([Bug 105531] /var/lib/os-prober/mount briefly appears on
desktop):
Using the i386 livecd 20070411, I select Install. After I have
selected my partitioning arrangement (use whole disk) I get the
Migrate Documents and Settings page. While this is looking for things
to migrate, I see an icon labelled /var/lib/os-prober/mount briefly
flash on my desktop (about twice).

Oddly on a different machine but with the same CD, doing another test
install, I saw this apparently come up as `/mnt/migration-assistant'
or something similar.

[Bug 105881] Re: acer_acpi [Needs packaging]

2007-04-13 Thread Olivier Prieur
** Description changed:

  acer_acpi
  Hardware Control for Acer Laptops
  Version 0.4 released 2007-03-31

acer_acpi is a Linux kernel module to allow control of some of the hardware
on later model Acer (and other Wistron OEM) laptops.
acer_acpi was originally developed to enable the wireless LAN card of an Acer
Aspire 5024 under 64-bit Linux. The previous solution to hardware access on
these laptops, Olaf Tauber's acerhk, relied on BIOS calls to work -
unfortunately, it is not possible to call a 32-bit BIOS routine from a 64 bit
operating system, so acer_acpi was born.

Did you at least run winecfg to create and setup wine? And not using the
old and out dated wine tools?

[Bug 50031] ec_intr=0 better off unused on R60 these days?

2007-04-13 Thread Simon Rönnqvist
It seems to me that at least with my ThinkPad R60 and the newest Ubuntu
Edgy kernel (2.6.17-11) I'm better off not using the ec_intr=0 parameter
at all. Cause suspend to RAM seems to work with the default kernel
parameters, but stops working with ec_intr=0. (I just figured this out,
so I'll let you know if suspend to RAM starts turning evil on me again.
But for now it seems to work repeatedly...)

Re: [Bug 83025] Re: initramfs-tools script doesn't wait for device initialization, preventing mdadm to assemble md arrays

2007-04-13 Thread Dominik Sauer
well, the udev is started up (and the coldplug events triggered) in
/usr/share/initramfs-tools/scripts/init-premount/udev; which is the very
script i add the sleep 20 at the end of.

On 4/11/07, Christoph Rauch [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote:

I get the same effect (mdadm does not start arrays), similar setup as
Dominik (ata_piix, raid1), but apparently a different cause for the
 problem.

According to ps udevd is not started at all when mdadm bails out. If I
start the udev start script manually the device nodes appear and the
mdadm script can initialize the arrays.

[Bug 105474] Re: Downloading files with firefox on an ntfs partition (ntfs 3g) results in empty files

2007-04-13 Thread Szaka
It seems to be permission related for both ntfs-3g and fat32. If you
mount NTFS without the use of any of uid, gid, umask, fmask and dmask
options, i.e. no permission checking is done at all, then probably
download will work. Otherwise you must configure these options in a way
that the relevant firefox user permissions match the preconfigured NTFS
one, even if you use the 'silent' option.

On fat32 the quiet option may help.
